[Q] Mac OS X 10.6 + Windows 8 = FAIL

well i had mac os x as my main OS, right on 1 partataion with chamelion as the boot loader, then i intslled WINDOWS 8 and i doesnt show chamelion it just boots right into Windows 8... how do i get chamelion back so i can boot into both
Dual booting hacked OSX and Windows 8 is not possible at the moment. Chameleon is not able to boot Win8, and Win8 bootloader couldn't possibly load OSX.
If you are on a Mac, you could install them on separate partitions.
If you are on a PC, you could install them on separate drives and choose the OS by BIOS boot-up selection.
Can't see any other way right now, but check InfiniteMac for future solutions.
i tried it
i tried XP but that failed aswell. have i messed up the bootloader?

have you tried booting into windows opening cmd, and setting the OSX partition active via diskpart? I have a successful triple boot with win 8, 10.6.8, and Ubuntu 11.10.

He's right. I have win 8, win7, and lion on my hac pro, one one SSD. Just install chameleon loader to a usb drive, and once it displays the drive selecetion you should be able to set the the preferred boot drive to the partition which holds the bootloader. Hope that makes sense.

How do i do that, im running Windows 8 Developers Preview 32BIT
hmmm
Or just Google for "iboot", burn it to a CD, reboot from CD and select your Mac OS partition. Otherwise, it will go straight to windows 8.

To sum up, you'll need a foreign bootloader from the disk or are there another method? It would be so interesting, the mac os its a great operative and Windows 8 is god.
Greetings

Yes, you do need a foreign bootloader from CD. Currently, there is no other method available. Still, it is awesome to have snow leopard/lion alongside windows 8

Iboot currently does not work. However, to boot lion, you may use "rboot" from TonymacOsx (something like this, Google it). It works the same way with the slight difference it is intended for Macintosh Lion and not for Snow Leopard or below.

You can install Chameleon on a old SD card o USB drive and select this drive in the boot menu. I used this way some time before and worked nice.

But that won't work with windows 8.... chameleon doesn't work with it YET. So instead of installing chameleon on a SD card or USB, I suggest burning rboot to a CD

You didn't understand me. You've to install in the hard disk Windows 8 with its bootloader normally.
So, If you have Mac OSX in another Hard Disk you don't have any problem. Intall chameleon in OSX hd and select it in your motherboard boot menu.
If you have the both SO in the same Hard Disk. Intall the windows bootloader in the hard disk. And in a SD Card/USB stick install Chameleon with its Extra folder, etc (all the chameleon stuff).
You can boot the SD/USB in your motherboard boot menu .
Maybe it's not the better solution. But is what I used to do.

Odin and Kies in linux

Not so long ago I became linux mint user. Many of the necessary programs and games runs without problems in Wine. But I couldn't connect my galaxy note through wine. So I find another way to connect it with odin through VirtualBox. I wrote a small guide:
- Install VirtualBox.
- Download windows xp or windows 7 ISO image install disc. For example, you can download windows 7 trial 90 day from microsoft.com. If you have a disc with windows installer you can use it. I personally prefer windows xp micro edition (250mb).
- Start VirtualBox. Add virtual machine, choose your ISO image or real CD-ROM if you have disc. Install windows with the recommended settings.
- When the installation is complete, and windows will boot to desktop you will need to install drivers. Connect USB flash with drivers to your virtual machine or create virtual network disc to linux and drag these drivers (mirror1, mirror2) to windows.
- Intall drivers.exe in virtual machine.
- Move odin to your virtual machine same way. And start it.
- Reboot you galaxy note in download mode and connect to usb. Press USB indicator in the bottom menu of virtualbox and choose your samsung connection.
If you are doing everything right you will see this:
You can also try Heimdall. It has linux port.
Kies should work fine same way.
I found humdall to be much more reliable and easier than Odin

This isn't development, nor is it hacking.
But, try getting a disc to reinstall off of.
I tried download but what I really want to know is how to access recovery partitions if that happens.

Downloads
Windows 7 .iso: http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads-t12325.html
PowerISO: http://download.cnet.com/PowerISO/3000-2646_4-10439118.html
1. Install PowerISO
2. After installation is complete, PowerISO will be integrated into Windows (meaning a PowerISO sub-menu will appear when files are right-clicked). Locate the ISO file to be mounted on your PC and right-click it.
3. In the PowerISO sub-menu, select Set Number of Drives and 1 Drives. This action creates a virtual drive. Locate My Computer on your PC, and you should be able to see a new drive (depending on how many actual drives you have, this may be named ‘F’, ‘G’ or something else).
4. The next step is to mount the ISO file to the new virtual drive you created in Step 3. Locate the ISO file on your PC again, right-click it and select PowerISO, Mount Image to Drive (x) (whatever PowerISO has labelled the virtual drive as).
5. The ISO file will now be mounted on the virtual drive. You can access it in My Computer in the same way you would a real drive. Double-click the virtual drive to open the ISO “disc”..
6. Open File explorer> Computer> Deceives and Removable Storage> Click "Setup.exe" go through the procedure
Hope it helps, if it does please click thanks

ADB Issues

For some reason I can't get ADB to recognize my nexus 10. I've tried just about everything like checking debugging, unchecking MTP, re installing drivers and I even flashed back to stock 4.3 un rooted but still unlocked.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Windows user I take it? What version? If its 8/8.1 there have been many issues and often need to use USB 3.0
If xp-7 then the issue is most likely between improper drivers or bad USB cable
Also it is best to add a path in environmental variables so you don't have to open cmd in the same location as adb.exe on PC
Or even better dual boot a Linux distro which has many pros I won't bother getting into here

Yup, I'm currently running Windows 8.1. I've tried using my USB 3.0 slot before posting but that didn't work either. I'll try it again though. Would it make a difference if the USB cord I'm using is 2.0 or 3.0 for the issues I'm having?
Not sure if there has been a fix in 8.1 yet, last I looked (a few weeks back) there wasn't
My wife uses our 8.1 PC so I haven't bothered much as I use windows 7 and Linux for my pcs
