Why cant I install nextradio on my s7 edge? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi!
I want to listen radio from s7 edge with out internet connection using headphone cable as radio antenna. I heard nextradio can do that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8qG2sWX3OE
And here it lists s7 edge as supported device http://nextradioapp.com/supported-d...c=168693438.1.1493546069131&__hsfp=1591936024
But when I go to google play app it says my device is in compatible. When I manually download apk it installs but does not work. I have tried few other apps but they also dont work. One wanted root access (not sure why, I guess it wanted to load some drivers?) but it also didnt work even after I granted it access.
I have android 7 installed on my device.
Any advise how to get FM radio work on my device? And why it seems to work for others and not for me?

Which variant if S7 do you have? Snapdragon or Exynos?
FM radio only support on Snapdragon variant.

Exynos., I am from europe. But why? Is it some hardware/kernel/configuration issue or is there some missing chip? Since it uses headphone cable as antenna, shouldnt it be device independent?

Missing hardware. On snapdragon, fm chip is baked into the chipset. So any phone with snapdragon chipset will have fm radio built in (but might be disabled depend on OEM).
Exynos chipset however, don't have this chip built in.
Also headphone cable is more like an extension of the antenna, I guess since I have seen hack on other phone where headphone isn't need to be plugged in (the signal is bad though). Also having an antenna but no chip to pull and process data mean nothing.

[Q] Does the Galaxy S5 3G Exynos version have Download Booster?

Samsung has advertised Download Booster to work on LTE networks. But what about the 3G version? Will is also have similar functionality over a 3G network?
No mention about it in the Samsung India microsite: http://www.samsung.com/in/galaxys5/specs.html

I am assuming it will not have the feature.
I also assume the feature is available with the LTE model because LTE is consistently faster than most wifi landline networks, allowing you faster download speeds when LTE and wifi are combined.
just taking a guess here.
Its just a combination of wifi+mobi network so it is possible.

Ok, it seems that the Exynos Version does not have Download Booster, as mentioned in this video

Hmm. Interesting.
But it does not seem to be present in the Indian Exynos models.

No. I've only seen in the videos that it's not there. Never got the chance to check out the Exynos model.
And Samsung doesn't mention the feature at all.
Which model did you try? SM-G900H?
Download Booster Galaxy S5
I have the international model of Galaxy S5 SM-G900H 4G version and it doesn't have the Download Booster, can someone tell me where (if) I can turn it on
THX
Download booster depends on LTE.
Exynos variant does not have it at all.

It has hidden download booster.
I am myself tested it.

[Q] Is the S5 physically capable of receiving FM radio?

Does the snapdragon quad-core version of the S5(SM - G900i) actually have the hardware inside it to be capable of receiving FM radio, rooted or not?
That's one thing i think Samsung made a huge mistake with, not including an FM radio, don't know about other countries but here in Australia FM radio is still hugely popular, i was quite pissed when i looked and didn't find one when i powered mine up for the first time. We don't have unlimited mobile data in aus so all this streaming BS is too costly.
Thanks for any help.
I still think an FM reciever is more pratical use than a heart rate sensor. But I dont mind because most people dont listen to FM radio anymore (the last fone I own that has FM radio is HTC Evo 3D)
The answer is no. There is no FM reciever built into the Galaxy S5 or most of new phone nowadays.
All you can do is listen to in through online broadcast.

Google play app, reliable and doesnt need earphones to be plugged in... excellent buffering in the device, more stations than can possibly be expected.Even without using headphones (Wi-Fi recommended over data plans)
I believe only the Sprint Galaxy S5 (G900P) has the FM radio buiilt in.

Sprint S5 kernel for g900f to enable fm radio

Hi, I have Galaxy s5 g900f and NextRadio installed to receive fm radio but it doesn't work because carrier didn't unlocked it. S5 Sprint version has it. Can someone port Sprint S5 kernel to G900F version? I tried TuneIn radio but I need offline radio.
As dar as I know, it's a hardware limitation

It may just be wishful thinking, but the current consensus is that it's a software (or firmware) limitation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2661286&page=16#post57373795
The phones with it seem to have the same hardware as those without.
They both share this Broadcom chip which is capable of receiving FM radio signals. Whether or not the sprint version uses this or not I don't know. It is not at all uncommon to find redundant hardware in mobile tech.
It's very unlikely that Samsung would commission a special variant for just one carrier. It really doesn't make business sense. The most likely explanation is that Samsung pays Broadcom a rate depending on which features they use. Sprint have simply foot the extra money for the FM capabilities so Samsung have enabled them.
It is possible that the Broadcom chip requires a specific external oscillator (if it doesn't somehow share the same 2.4GHz one the bluetooth and Wi-FI uses). My poor-man's electrotec instinct is telling me it's impossible to put an accurate oscillator inside an IC. Relatively speaking, these are actually expensive components. Samsung could simply not load the pick'n'place machine with this component and there you go. They've saved money with no design changes whatsoever and we loose our FM This is a visible mod and if we ever get pics of the two mainboards side by side we would be able to tell.
However! It is also possible the Broadcom chip can have features permanently deactivated via an eFuse to satisfy licence requirements. (Nasty right? but it does go on unfortunately It's a lot cheaper than making several different chips)
I think we have a great chance to be honest, but no one has announced they're working on it now.
If like me, you really want this feature, I suggest heading to the post above and pledging a donation for a working hack.
My s5 mini is same.

Different region Note 4..

I'm thinking of getting a Note 4 Exynos variant. I'm assuming it's coming from China and is this variant -
SM-N910U Exynos 5433.. Will this function in the UK as a regular snapdragon variant please?
And if anyone knows, can they confirm that the audio /speaker sound is actually superior with the Exynos?
Thanks

everything is superior with the exynos version. CPU is faster, graphics is faster, zero carrier crapware added, get full UMTS support. only thing is if you encrypt the first screen asks for teh password in chinese and prompts you twice (select checkbox and click OK). other than that its great.
Thanks but audio is the thing for me,, I'm hearing reports that the Exynos version dies does indeed beat the Snap one.. That's the icing on the cake for me if it's superior and not tinny /thin.
Not sure about Umts sir? What's that?
And if u encrypt? Not even sure how I'd do that? I'd just run it stock without rooting.
Would I get the firmware updates still ota?
Thanks
There is a thread on here with all the frequencies of each model. What you need to know is does the model you are ordering support all the frequencies that your carrier uses. If it doesn't support any then it's useless if it only supports one them you will have signal issues and battery drain
UMTS=4G data speed. yes you still get fw updates OTA. lollipop (next android) has encryption enabled by default with stock rom. you do get superior voice quality with exynos but its only 10-15% better not spectacular.

One such system improvement that T-Mobile users discovered is the activation of the radio receiver on the device. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor inside the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge integrates an FM chip, but T-Mobile – like many other carriers – disabled it, at least initially.
The "correct" question is: Does the Exynos 8 Octa 8890 processor integrates an FM chip too?

On this, the answer is NO!
Really???

The quad-core 7570 is the first Exynos chip to have all wireless tech, including Cat.4 LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, FM and GNSS (GPS), built in to a single chip so why wouldn't the Exynos 8 Octa 8890 SoC have an integrated FM receiver ?
First time ever I am jealous to not have a snapdragon variant then. I had no idea.

Yes, for this one sometimes feel jealous. But the snapdragon's type is also more envious feel to the exynos because the community is crowded about cusrom and all modifications
