Which S8 model variant for the unlocked Best Buy (US) version? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Contemplating purchasing a 950F international version (assuming BTU) to use on ATT or wait for the unlocked version from Best Buy. Does anyone know which model # will be available at Best Buy? Also, will the non-carrier specific versions allow WiFi calling voLTE etc?

[Q] Which Version To Buy?

Hi Guy hope all is well. Will try to keep this as short as possible.
I have ATT service, looking to buy the best note I can. I have 3 options..... 1) Att 2) Tmobile 3) International
I am currently overseas and can pick up the international version if I want. I know the ATT version will be 100% compatible. I know the Tmobile version has an unlocked bootloader.
1) If I buy the International Version or the TMobile version, will I still have all the LTE bands required by ATT to get the best possible signal?
Help me decide. Thanks.
Exynos

Will Korea version of V20 be usable outside Korea?

I plan for vacation in South Korea next month and I assume the device will be available there and I plan to buy it there.
But I heard issues that smartphone bought in South Korea cannot be used in other country. Is that true?

I don't know about that, but here are some things to consider:
1) Make sure that it has all the bands for your other country carrier
2) At least in the USA, the V20 is expected to be available only through the carriers (E.g. T-Mobile, AT&T) and without a general unlocked version that works with all the supported carriers. That means that a Korean phone may not have specific software for USA such as VoLTE and VoWiFi.
I would recommend getting the V20 version from/for the carrier you plan to use it on unless you can verify all the other carrier's features are supported using the Korean version.

B&H Photo/Video typically sells unlocked flagship phones that work with US GSM Networks (AT&T/T-Mobile & the MVNO's that operate on their networks).

I wouldn't rule out the possibility, unless you're using VZW or Sprint as your service provider.
all Korean phones are unlocked internationally, just locked region. if you buy kt you cant use it on sk or LG U+. i made sure when i bought the lg v20 because ill be in the Philippines for vacation. KT phones seem to always work with AT&T

Verizon options/versions?

What are the differences in my options for purchasing a Verizon compatible LG V20? Direct from VZW, Best Buy, US996 version from Newegg/B&H.
What are the differences in the versions available from these vendors? Do we know yet? Thanks.
The Verizon model is VS995, it is the same model if you buy it from Verizon directly or Best Buy.
The US996 is carrier unlocked and will work on most US carriers, including Verizon. But the hope is that the US996 will have its bootloader unlocked like on the Tmobile model, which could lead to possible root.
indeed. the US has a few more frequencies and bands than the Verizon one. I believe Verizon has 17 and US has 21. seems the unlocked won't be shipping until November for B and h and Newegg and who knows if best buy is going to get it. I think my plan is to get the unlocked version when available and use it with Verizon. I'm not dealing with Verizon's crap, I'd much rather have an unlocked phone again.

Which S8 Model to root and with hotspot.

Just a question which model of the S8 to buy so we can root for sure and with built in hotspot that doesn't need subscription like the Unlocked Android without bloatware and you can use on att without needing to subscribe a hotspot subscription?
The international exynos unlocked model should work in the US.
Root is not confirmed on any S8/S8+ because the phone is not out - can't be sure the Exynos will be rootable like last year.
How could I make sure I get exynos model?

Depends on where you life... European countries get the exynos version. USA and other normally get the locked snapdragon version. If. you live in such a country you have to import it and get it without a contract.
Technically every version of the S8/S8+is "hotspotable" (is this even a word ) however it depends if your carrier allows you to use it. but normally it isn't locked or at least never had been for me. But I have a German carrier in Germany. I am not sure but I think Verizon and telekom in the us are locking it. So in this case you would have to import a unlocked S8 or hope that you can root it. But I bet 100€ that again the snapdragon version will be not rootable...

So if the model number is SM-G950F, does that mean it is definitely Exynos? I may be buying in Latin America and would prefer to know if it is Snapdragon or Exynos before I hand over my cash.

Wait until it's confirmed yes or no about this year's Exynos bootloader unlock. Rumors are it's no.

It looks like its missing some LTE bands compared to the US version.
Usually don't have band 71 for TMobile... At least on Note 9.

Can I somehow enable those bands?
Both phones look to be running same Qualcomm chipset.

What about CDMATool?
I see it can enable bands, but I do not see option for band 66 or 71 in a tool.
Thoughts?
I have a note 9 from the same source, perfect expect those carrier specific feartue such as volte, wifi calling . It does work with LTE, but almost half of speed of what I can get from a us version.

The S9 Plus, SM-G9650 (Hong Kong) is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile, I'd be surprised to learn an SM-G9750 isn't. It should work on all CDMA Networks. In some instances sellers on Ebay and Amazon will state that particular variant isn't compatible when in fact it is, just to cover their rear ends.
my sprint sim isnt working for my 9750 out the box... i figured they couldnt do anything, but i called anyways, the sprint rep said if it were "unlocked" it would work, maybe its a network or regional lock, i dont know. Im trying everything to get it "unlocked"... if thats even the problem. Currently waiting on a paid sim unlock service to get back with me, see if they can help.
Any one get a HK s9 or s10 to work on sprint?
If it's Exynos it's not going to work on Sprint or Verizon.
My Exynos S9+ and Note9 work fine with TMO.
