Sharing Xperia XZ Premium Full Size Photo samples - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello Guys,
Just want to share some photo samples taken from the upcoming Xz Premium
Let me know what you think, better than previous xperia??
Here is the link (Full Size photo):
https://mega.nz/#!YRkSxb4T!EGiMUhO-I5areSTXTbrnfGE3lY-MvFCB1U67nf0nyMA

I have checked your camera samples (thanks for share ) am very disappointed about result. Maximum picture size is 7.4 in out door. Even my note 4 pictures size goes to 11 mb in outdoor.

Must say I'm very disappointed Looks like the post processing issues found in Xperia XZ are still present. Hopefully will be fixed in the final build.

Xperia Z - Camera test/comparision

HI,
So, I'm one of the few who is definitely not happy with his new Xperia Z. Having had my go at the screen, where I understand things might get mixed with personal taste I decided to have a look at the camera.
I took some photos today with it and also with my Galaxy S2. Images on the left are from the Sony.
Full size images:
Samsung: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8p9lsf08oa1l0rq/Samsung.zip?m
Sony: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ep5vco70vgqh5yz/Sony.zip?m
You be the judge
Edit: One interesting thing is image size in MB. Images from the Sony are significantly smaller than the ones from the S2 even though they are 12MP vs 8MP (last image from the Sony sampes is 9MP)
Cheers,
P
Can you upload a video sample too..nobody seems to help me with this..can you help uploading the video sample to dropbox i really want to check the video quality.

shame on sony felt it would be like this.........they produce sensors for most device manufacturers but they keep poor sensors in their devices
will never return to sony in near future
Thanks for the post. I have S2 and have been waiting to buy either this phone HTC one or s4. I can cross xz off my list. Very disappointed at sony

Either you're good at Photoshop or your phone is faulty. My camera is better than the S3 + iPhone 5 even without looking in depth. Same with the screen, as always, anyone who gives any care about "viewing angles" is idiotic. You don't hold your phone sideways.
The XZ in my opinion is everything I expected maybe more. Stop *****ing.

Definitely agree. Since the op made this topic, I've done side by side comparisons between the GS2 and Xperia Z and no way in hell is the s2 camera better than the Xperia Z. The s2 over-saturates all the colours. The XZ takes a picture of the object as it is, it doesn't try to bloat it with over-saturated colours or try to richen the picture which I like.
How can 8mp sensor takes a bigger pics than 13mp sensor?
Sent from my C6602 using xda app-developers app
if the OP had said GS3 camera maybe it would have been worth a look, but a GS2 camera doing better then XZ...well..
Lol at this post. Check the images closely..

I had a camera trial with my mates iphone 5, the Sony lost on all but daytime shots, so not happy with my Z Even my old 4s takes better night shots than the Z, and the half second lag before it takes the picture makes it feel like a 5 year old cheap digi camera.

Thanks man. This seems to be the truth. Sony didn't make the effort with camera or speaker. The speaker made me laugh when I tested it in the 3 store. Really wanted to like this phone but too many negatives to jump in for a two year contract !
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Nothing wrong with the speaker louder than sg3, also the cam is good on this i think people are trolling and chatting bs.
To everyone saying that the Z has a great camera can you please attach some photos (straight from the phone please)?
The samples on dropbox are completely untouched, the other images are just put side by side on Photoshop to get the screenshot.
Sony clearly under performs, specially in color reproduction (wrong wb) and less sharp images. On the second sample you can't even perceive the small cracks on the sticker while they are perfectly visible on the sgs2.
So please, attach some photos. Maybe I have a defective model, who knows. But I've looked around for camera samples and they all look the same.
I do, however, believe this is a software problem. Too much noise reduction and compression. There is no way a JPEG that has more pixels and is, on average, 30% smaller is size has more detail
May be a sony hater, sammy's spy doing some ****ty work here.... i dont think he will be seen here anymore ... he knows he is caught.... heheehhe
I can see that everyone here appears to want to believe the camera is great, but that isn't quite the truth. Check some sites like GSMArena - the camera doesn't fare that well in comparison with good 8mp shooters from last year in fact. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, I mean those 8mp weren't either by cellphone standards, but I think it is fair to say that it is a bit disappointing considering the increased mp count and supposed sensor advancements.
The thing that I am curious about is the file size. It seems common sense to me that if 2 pictures are in the same format then the larger file will have more detail. Is it possible that we can make the XZ compress the pictures less (maybe take pictures in a better format) and have a much better result???

New Firmware Camera Shots Please

Hello all. I had the XZ for around a week and a bit. I returned the device as I found the camera hugely disappointing in comparison to my old XS, which is a great snapper.
Camera quality is a big draw for me so I'm excited to hear that Sony have overhauled the crippling camera algorythms for this latest software update. I'm considering getting another XZ, as the S4 really doesn't interest me and the One's camera is patently sh*te in daylight conditions.
So, help please: Could you post pictures taken by your Z with the new software? I'm really keen to see the improvement and judge for myself.
(And, if anyone who has owned both could tell me, after the update, which is the better camera, the Xz or the XS?)
Well I have both devices and even before the update I felt the Zs camera was much better. The Ss camera held more detail. Yes! But that only gave it an advantage in daylight conditions. In all other conditions, the Z beats it hands down. The amount of noise on the Ss pictures are horrendous! Especially indoors and in low light.
After the update, the Z makes up the ground in detail but a lot of noise is also invited into the picture. Again, that's indoors and under low light.
The Zs camera is, as it's always been much better than the Ss.
Attached is a picture taken after the update, you can check the detail it preserves for yourself.

Great comparisson. Detail seems higher now (thank god!) but noise is also higher, it seems. It's a trade off I can accept.

Noise is higher when using superior auto, but with the normal mode it's pretty good I think.

I didn't use superior auto in any of the pictures I posted, only normal mode with HDR on-off. If I used night mode/scene then the quality would be a lot better though. But I didn't thought of it at that time. You can see night mode pictures in the topic where I posted my pictures.

Grey and dreary day with poor light, I think the quality is pretty decent now, there's no way at all the earlier fw would have picked up the matting on the moorhen nesting raft.

Here is some comparison of latest .253 Xperia Z camera v/s Galaxy Note II v/s iPhone 5.
My View:
1st pic - Exposure control the best in Xperia Z, iPhone 5 second, Note II is completely out, it is over expose.
2nd pic - Note II the best here, 2nd is iPhone 5, lastly Xperia Z.
3rd pic - Xperia Z still much closer to actual color - the best, Note II - not clear and not sharp, iPhone 5 - clear and sharp but too bright than actual.
In overall summary of 3 device camera:
Xperia Z - due to some issue on the superior auto mode which only generate noise now, need to pick scene mode or manual adjust for decent output. Point and shoot will be easier once Sony fix the Superior Mode. Now you still can get a decent in details just more step is required.
Note II - Probably due to too big size or whatever, it is easier get blur image, need some pressure to hold tide for decent output.
iPhone 5 - don't have much fancy setting, but iPhone 5 is the most easier point and shoot, you get 100% sharp in details image.
More camera shoot comparison of Xperia Z v/s iPhone 5. (No Note II this time as the owner not around).
My View:
1st photo - iPhone 5 win here, it capture more details than Xperia Z.
2nd photo - Both quite equal, but I like Xperia Z leaf color + iPhone 5 water pool color.
3rd photo - This one I give winner to Xperia Z, they is big sunlight there, Xperia Z can capture the light and color look alive.
4th photo - Obvious iPhone 5 great control of noise than Xperia Z here. Color wise iPhone 5 still a bit not correct as the light there is yellow spotlight rather than brown.
More Xperia Z .253 ROM - Camera test out:
For me it's simple, the superior auto mode on the Z isn't very good at all. It gets the white balance completely wrong. I think it's the auto setting for white balance, it doesn't seem to work. The camera focuses better when you select the right WB. Taking and posting auto shots of the Z does the camera a great disservice. The Xperia Zs camera right now, simply cannot function well as a point and shooter until Sony fixes the WB in auto mode.
For now, you've got to use normal camera and adjust the settings manually. It's straightforward, only four options, incandescent for low light, florescent for strong artificial lighting, daylight for clear blue skies and cloudy for well, as the name says, when the sunlight is obstructed by clouds.
As far as I'm concerned, fixing the auto WB issue as well as improving the quick focus would have done more to improve the Zs picture quality than the removal of image processing algorithms. For me, it did a lot of work cleaning up the pics. It certainly needed better and more intelligent implementation but that's all. Doesn't need to be canned.

Sony Xperia Z1 Camera after 14.2.A.0.290 Update

Hello XDA Community
Just installed the 14.2.A.0.290 Update (Android 4.3) and played with the camera for a little bit. I had little time to take photos but it seems like there really isn't that much improvement on Superior Auto (I did not have time to try manual since I have to run out and leave for work!).
Also, I had to make a few attempts to tap to focus to actually focus correctly which was an issue that I didn't have before. Anyway, it's really too early for me to criticize the camera since these were taken around 7:15-7:30AM and the lighting in my home office isn't that great.
I will take more pictures throughout the day both indoor and outdoors.
These photos are unaltered and are posted on flickr so you can view the original resolution. Again, taken in Superior Auto: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjP5Eneu
If anyone can post their notes and photo samples taken on manual, please post originals on Flickr and share!
Update - just added more photos when walking to my car outside!
Hey you know what... maybe SA mode has improved. Looks like the photos taken in the new update aren't as over-exposed as the previous version. I could be wrong.
Better if you make comparison, Android 4.2.2 vs 4.3... Photos like this are showing nothing...
Wysłane z mojego C6903 przy użyciu Tapatalka
Still way too much processing and compression, still garbage and have to rely on manual mode.
Seems like it focuses a lot faster with 4.3
I can vouch that focusing seems to be faster. Actual picture quality doesn't seem much different, I'll run a few tests once I'm done with final exams
Is the superior auto still taking 8 MP photos? Or is it able to take 20 MP shots?

It still takes 8MP shots, but people have to realize that's a GOOD thing. If it takes 20MP shots a couple of things happen: 1. The file size will be very big, 2. There will be more noise in the picture and 3. It will have a 4:3 aspect ratio which sucks for wallpapers, etc. Superior auto uses downsampling so that the 8MP image has the quality of a 20MP image without the weird aspect ratio, smaller file size and less noise. It's good!
they need to allow higher resolution auto mode, maybe not 20 MP, but like 12 MP should still be good for wide aspect ratio I think. And it also puts it ahead of all other android phones. And seriously, they need less compressed jpeg saving. Even if it means bigger file size, the S800 can easily handle it. My old S3 with superfine picture mode generally get around 3.5 MB for 8MP and Z1 is like 2.5 MB, thats shows how that there something going on with the horrible compression ratio. Sony needs to pull their head out of their ass and accept that their imagine processing is garbage, the Z1 camera specs is suppose to destroy every other android phone, not matching them.
So no 16:9 photos in MANUAL 20 MP?
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
dont think the lens is true wide angle lense, so its max out at 20MP 4:3, if they want to add 16:9 high MP shots, it probably have to drop to 18MP or lower.

which would be something that I could live with if I had 18mp wide and 13mp instead of going from 20mp to 8mp.

Dat oversaturation
Wow, the Z1 picture makes me hungry. Z1 by a mile obviously, the N5 looks washed out and is not nearly as sharp with detail. Then again, the camera on the n5 isn't bad considering it's price point. But it's no match for the Z1 or most other android phones for that matter.
I'm tempted to call that picture a tie. The detail on the food and plate is much better on the Z1, however I can barely see the wood grain on the table, whereas it's pretty clear on the N5

I think the oversaturated color destroy quite a bit of detail from the nexus, and Z1 picture is kind of darker, which is why the wood grain is more visible from the nexus.

I dont know dude yes the S9+ has better camera as I saw (clearly) but the XZP has pictures that show they are not taken properly I mean I dont think a 2017 flagship form sony them selves (The main camera provider for most of the phone companies out there) and it still takes as bad pictures as what I just saw, not sharp at all, not so bright, either that or the s9+ has a GOD level of camera on a smartphone just saying.

S9 tends to make pics bright & therefore it is "better" in low light, but if you see pics, you'll see that background in S9 photos are sometime has no details because S9 makes it so bright that all details disappear. Brighter image is not always a good image.
