S8+ UK EE Firmware (EVR) over BTU - i did it and it works - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Just a heads up for anyone thinking of flashing the EVR firmware onto their unlocked BTU phone to get VoLTE working on EE. I did it and it using the firmware from sam mobile and it worked. i did tick repartition and flashed, BL AP CP CSC as i wasn't worried about losing anything, so can't comment on if that is a mandatory option. Anyway, i now have VoLTE icon in the status bar working fine, and wifi calling is still there and working (as it was on BTU).
The only thing other than VoLTE i've noticed is they bundles some security software (the name of which escapes me, the phone is at home).

Did it trip Knox? I'm thinking about buying the BTU S8 and flashing the EE firmware, but am worried about tripping Knox and messing up Samsung Pay when it launches

in my case no it didn't, presumably because its a stock/official rom i flashed. Knox shows 0x0

Official firmware won't trigger knox.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add that I did the same thing for the same reason (VoLTE) - except I used XEU instead of BTU as it's slightly newer.
Boot into download mode and use Odin 3.12.7.
Flashed EVR (AQDG, latest one right now), with 're-partition' ticked, using the 'CSC_EVR_G955FEVR1AQDG' file for the CSC slot.
Rebooted into download mode.
Flashed XEU (AQEB, latest one right now), without 're-partition' ticked, except left the CSC slot blank.
As lynxblaine mentions, official firmware won't trigger KNOX.
After the above VoLTE works great with EE.

I tried something weird with this and am running VoLTE. I flashed xeu over the top but with the evr CSC instead of the xeu CSC. I am not sure how or why but it didn't require a factory reset to take, and it didn't wipe the phone. I need to test again to give an idea of how it works. But may mean there is a way to get VoLTE without wiping the phone.

Interesting.
With the way the flash files work these days it's technically straight forward to mix and match the files into a single flash, of course (my previous phone was a Note 4 where doing this wasn't anywhere near this easy as the CSC was bundled into some other file). The main reasons I did it in two stages were that I flashed as soon as I got the phone so it didn't have any data/setup that I could lose and the possibility it needed to repartition the phone for the EVR CSC. Having said that, looking into the CSC file itself, there's a .pit file so very possibly it is easier to mix and match these days even if you do need repartitioning?
From what I've read the CSC file should wipe everything (but as I said, my phone was already in factory default and I've yet to flash another update) and HOME_CSC is the one that wouldn't. Maybe it is the other way around? Though HOME_CSC doesn't have a .pit file, but the CSC file does.

but can these be flashed (BTU for EVR) without the need to re-partition?

Yes, at least it worked fine for me. As per my post above I first flashed EVR with re-partitioning on, then XEU without the XEU CSC and re-partitioning off, and it flashed fine and phone is working great.
I see no reason why BTU wouldn't work as well as XEU (though also no reason to flash BTU instead of XEU, but that's me )

XEU won't give you VoLTE on EE, though? For that you need the EVR CSC, so unless you flash that (on either XEU or BTU) you won't have VoLTE.
Currently the XEU firmware is a more recent update than BTU. And if you already use Odin for flashing these then it seems you can happily flash a non-EVR firmware (XEU or BTU) onto the phone while keeping the EVR CSC intact for VoLTE functionality, though if you want to use OTA updates then it might be a different story (not sure if you need to keep the XEU or BTU CSC to receive those updates, as you say they will be more frequent than EE's updates).

Sorry evr yes that is what I meant!

I will do some testing on my phone today with flashing the EVR CSC, if you do flash all XEU with the EVR CSC it will definitely work, its just about whether a wipe is required or not

Flashing DBT AQF7 & EVR AQDG
It dawned on me that it looks like the AP, BL and CP files for the same PDA version (e.g. XXU1AQEB) are exactly the same regardless of the CSC (my previous phone, the Note 4, used the old single "HOME" flash file, so I didn't really think about this). At least that seems the case so far (and I think it makes sense they are). For example, for XXU1AQDG all files are identical between BTU and EVR except the CSC. The same is true for XXU1AQEB between XEU and DBT and the latest XXU1AQF7 between DBT, XFV, MOT and CYV. (I downloaded a couple of S7 Edge ROMs and it's the same there between BTU, XEU and H3G for XXU1DQD7.)
Since I had already mixed and matched the EVR CSC from AQDG with AP, BL and CP from XEU AQEB, I decided to do the same and flash AP, BL and CP from DBT XXU1AQF7 and EVR CSC from AQDG.
The short story is this seem to work fine and I still have VoLTE with EE.
The longer story is; it wiped everything I think this was a mistake on my part. I first tried to flash AP, BL, and CP from AQF7 but didn't flash any CSC (or HOME_CSC) file. This seemed to cause some issue as it ended up booting into the "No command" state that then takes you into recovery. In recovery I cleared the cache and it rebooted back into the system, but everything was reset and VoLTE wasn't working (so something regarding CSC was wrong). I don't know why it would reset everything, but maybe not flashing a HOME_CSC (which is the one to flash to avoid reset) makes it do so?
Anyway, just to be one the safe side, to ensure CSC was correct and since everything was wiped, I booted back into download mode and flashed AP, BL and CP from AQF7 and the EVR CSC from AQDG. Once it was completed and had rebooted, installing system update and the CSC extras, I had to reboot once manually to enable VoLTE.
Next time there's a (non-EVR) update I'll try to flash AP, BL, CP from the update with EVR HOME_CSC from AQDB and see what happens.

so could i do the same thing with the vodafone csc to get wifi calling, and is there a way to do it without losing data

Yeah, that should work fine (currently Vodafone and EE CSCs are both on the same version (AQDG) so this is exactly what I've done (for EVR to get EE VoLTE), however -

This is the big question. As per my post above, I mucked something up with my AQF7 attempt to keep data so mine got reset. In theory, from what I've read, flashing the HOME_CSC (instead of CSC) should retain data. Possibly my mistake above was trying to flash without anything in the CSC? I don't know yet, and I don't have time to experiment further right now, so will probably hold until there's a newer update than AQF7 and I have the time.
If you want to try you can grab the files from updato.com -
UK Vodafone AQDG (CSC: OVF)
Germany DBT AQF7
Of course, if you don't want to take the risk, then don't

Thanks a lot, will need to educate myself on the procedure and back up my phone

The problem with this is that EVR seems to get only very occasional updates compared to BTU, sometimes only once in 6 months compared to at least every 2 on BTU. As a long term EE Samsung user I rarely saw updates on my S6Edge+, indeed it only got 7.0 a week or so ago, when almost all other regions got it a 1 or 2 months earlier.
EVR has already skipped an update for the S8+, and its not got the newest status bar changing update yet either. BTU has got it.

Sorry resurrect this old thread. Are we saying we can flash BTU and only use the carrier's CSC? I am with Three in the UK and have downloaded their H3G firmware ready to flash my unbranded S8 to get VOLTE and VOWIFI. Thanks

Download the latest BTU-firmware from i.e. SamMobile
1. Install Odin 3.10.7
2. Put AP BL CP CSC in the designated slots (your device will be resetted afterwards)
If you reflash the current AP + BL + CP BUT use the Home-CSC version the device will not reset data.

You can use the firmware the henklbr posted and use the home-csc from the country u want.
I did this on a BTU csc and went to the PHN csc without erasing anything.

PHN is from my own country, it holds carrier specific stuff.
Basically you can use any CSC you want, but some CSC versions also install extra software at first boot.

I bought my S7E from eBay and the CSC is THR (Iran).
Is there any reason I should change the CSC? What do you recommend? BTU or NEE? Any other?
Thank you!

If the phone works fine now i would not change anything.
If you are a flashaholic then use the latest and greatest from the link i posted.
If you just want automatic updates on a regular basis via OTA then flash BTU, chances are that this firmware will be updated quicker.

In that case you must flash the stock image from BTU.
That firmware can be easily found.
But keep in mind that this will reset the phone !!!

If you want OTA then you need to setup the phone with all stock firmware.
So you need to use the CSC file and NOT the Home_CSC file.
When using the normal CSC file, the script in the CSC formats data on your phone. (factory reset)
Sure you can use Home_CSC but then you will not get OTA files, or when you get them they will fail when installing.

Brotuck, thank you very much for all your posts here. They have been very useful for me! I bought a Galaxy S7 online for quite a good price. Phone has worked well with no issues apart from one! Which was that it would not upgrade to the latest firmware for the S7 from Samsung: G930FXXU1APD3. My phone had the upgrade ending in APD1. I did some investigation using PhoneINFO app from the Play store and turns out my phone CSC code was TRI and BGY which are Vietnam and Hong Kong! Turns out my phone is a grey market phone as I am in the UK.
I wanted APD3 because I am in the UK with the EE network which provides WiFi calling which I wanted for my my phone as I work in a building which has very poor reception but has WiFi. I read the APD3 version allows for WiFi calling. I called all the Samsung helplines to get my phone upgraded but no luck. Eventually I thought to go the DIY route and found this thread! I was quite wary of downloading and updating my phone using the Odin method and thought long and hard several times fearing I would brick my phone! However last night I bit the bullet and updated!! You will be happy to know thanks to this thread, and various others I Googled, the phone upgraded with no issues (so far!). I can now see the WiFi toggle in the Phone settings!!! I used the full csc code and not the Home code and so had to add all my stuff back on the phone again but that was not too bad as I had backed up my phone using Smart Switch.
I have just one question though: My phone now shows Bootloader, PDA and CSC versions as G930FXXU1APD3 but the Baseband version is still showing: G930FXXU1APD1. Is this correct. Does the Baseband version not update with the latest firmware?
Many thanks again.
Best CSC for VOLTE - VIDEO CALLING - ATT
I am on ATT Network using the G935F - and I am curious if there is a CSC I can flash that would enable me to take advantatage of ATT VOLTE and VIdeo Calling from the main phone dialer apk?
I know I can use hangouts - but it would be simpler to use the regular dialer and I really would like the benefits of VOLTE if I can get them....
I understand that not all providers or all areas offer VOLTE or Native Video Calling for that matter but I beleive that some do - I Just don't knwo which ones?
Any suggestions?

It really depends on the used firmware you installed. It is very possible that PD1 is the baseband version.
Don't worry about it. If it all works fine, do not mess with it.
Change CSC make service codes (i.e. *#0*#) impossible to use.

Flashing BTU for time being, then EVR once 7 released?

If I use Odin to flash Nougat BTU firmware, I assume once EE get their house in order and release Nougat EVR firmware I can simply re flash that so I get VoLTE back?
Am I also correct in saying Knox is not tripped either?
Thanks
From what I have read yes your right. I'm the same. On EE waiting.. I was going to btu then like you reflash evr for volte but it means wiping data twice. I'll hold off I think for ee. Hopefully won't be to long.

Honestly I can't see them releasing until March time. They always seem to be about 2 months behind BTU releases.
I was going to create another thread for kinda a similar question if the OP allow me to post here.
I have UAE middle east S7 edge. I flashed UK firmware because its not available yet to us. Once they release it for UAE, can I simply flash the AP file and I will be back to normal and receive security patches as arrive ?
I did it tonight. I've set it up as a new device. Most of my stuff is backed up to the cloud so resetting up doesn't take too long really. What I'll do is once I'm all set up again, do a full backup on Nougat and when EVR 7.0 is released flash and restore backup.

Please help!

S8 firmware problems

I flashed my branded s8(wind italian) with Odin to the new UK firmwre, when i flashed i added the AP, BL, *HOME CSC* and CP, when i flashed it went everything alright then when i went to the settings I saw that my service provider hasn't changed and that it remained the one before only my firmware was changed from Italian to UK. Since I want to roll in for the oreo beta programme, what should I do to have both the firmware and the service provider in UK? So that I can roll for the beta.
You need QH3 firmware (minimum) and you need to use the CSC flashable selection tool and select the UK CSC.

secound, you need an UK SIM otherwise it is not possible to get the Beta
third removing the Branding does only work if you flash with the CSC_OXM not with the HOME_CSC_OXM this will also factory reset the phone.

Tried to change CSC from DBT to XSA, passes odin, doesn't change anything.

Hello, I'm trying to change my SM-G655F from Germany to Australia firmware for the sole purpose of getting Samsung pay to work. I've done this before, switched from XSA to DBT in order to get access to Oreo early. I want to go back, now that Oreo is available worldwide.
However flashing the firmware through Odin, the process passes but I don't think it really "passes" anything, the flashing process is instant, where it should take a minute. And it doesn't change the CSC at all. What's going on?
Both firmware versions have the same April security patch. I've tried other firmwares as well to test it out and I'm getting the same issue.
