Possible to change IMEI? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

I see hundreds of people selling their new contract phones on ebay and the like, and everyone buys them. Nothing's stopping the original seller to report the phone as stolen a few months or even years down the line, resulting in that phone's IMEI being blocked. This leaves the buyer with a very expensive door stop.
Is there a way to change the IMEI in such an event?

No and don't ask again it's illegal

Illegal where exactly? If you don't have a useful answer I suggest you don't reply in the future.

For trying to obtain general information? It's not illegal everywhere so I'm not allowed to ask the question based on the fact that it's illegal in the US and UK?
Maybe someone else can shed some light.

I believe this thread details (or at least links to) the legalities (or rather illegalities) of changing an IMEI code. That's just the first one I found with a quick search. As you can see it was locked.

Well in that case a simple yes or no would do me in relation to the original question.

In the USA and UK for starters. I would drop the subject, you aren't going to get an answer here.

IMEI Tampering is prohibited on XDA.
Kindly read the forum rules thoroughly.

IMEI Change for HTC Leo, HTC HD2

Hello,
I need to change my IMEI#. Is there a way for performing this issue.
Thanks in advance...
Best regards,
BT
It is not allowed
Changing your IMEI is illegal in most countries. I doubt you'll get any advice here.
Why would you need to change the IMEI unless you are using a stolen phone?

Truthfully I know that it is illegal but I can explain my conditions
I live in Turkey, according to laws of my country; if you buy a phone during your visit in foreign countries you should register it when you come back using your passport. You can register only one device in your passport.
A friend of mine has visited taiwan and bought two HD2. one for me and one for himself. He registered his phone after he has arrived. Because I didn't go with him I couldn't register my phone. Thats why I need this process...
I hope it is clear.
Have a nice day,
BT
Can a forum moderator kindly close this thread please and do what you please with the OP...

Nah, he lives in Turkey not The 'States
the OP is correct though if you want to use your phone in turkey for more than 1 or 2 months I think it is, you have to register it. Otherwise the phone is blocked from the networks there.
However as well as being illegal to change the IMEI, its also pointless as a device database is now used and if the IMEI does not match the device at registration then it will be confiscated and worse you could get a jail sentence (and anyone who helped you).

Give yourself whatever in your hand funny guy... (Anlayan anladı...)
I have the same problem. U can register it in Aksaray about 50-60 tl ( Diyolar ama bende bulamadım su an sorunlu bu iş nolcak bakalım )
I bet these regulations will come to general Europe asap.
Any rule that breaks down your freedom is always worldwide adopted.
And, the USA isn't a police state yet, it will be soon, however, Europe is FAR more
a police state then the USA.
But USA is getting up to speed breaking down civil rights.
I feel for the OP as he's into a lot of trouble as a normal consumer, not a thief !
I search too how to change the IMEI on this phone.
I'm software programmor, if anyone would work with me in order to create a tool for this, there is no problem ! COntact me on my PM adress !
We can do it !
You can be jailed in the UK for doing that!
Creating the software and the hack is not illegal !
Using this...is an other thing
Guys, don't be too harsh on the man...
I went to Turkey last year and found out that they cannot view youtube.com ? that was a great WTF!
Also in movies, when there is a cigar displayed on the screen, they blur it!! Another WTF!
So Turkey is like the land of restrictions I guess.. To bad to hear about that phone registration, sounds stupid and political b*** s***

why not? at least he not hiding an affiliate link behind a url shortener. im glad hes being upfront and honest that he is a reseller and if he can provide phones at a significant discount, who cares if he makes a commision. it is his job after all to sell phones and contracts.
i see no issue here.

I never said that I was a moderator, simply giving the op some friendly advice. Not sure why you feel a need for sarcasm over showing someone new the XDA rules. I didn't make the rules ... it's really not necessary to flame the messenger.

Id hardly say that this is showing the op the rules. You sarcasticly opined "not gonna work around here"
You didn't cite a rule or even a reason until I prompted you.
How does that help the op to just tell him not to post this, but give no reason why? I honestly thought you were implying that the users wouldn't like it beccause its an affiliate link. You never mentioned a single rule in your first post to him.

Regardless, have a nice day wmdunn. You seem like you need one.

[Q] Nexus 4 importing to India

My friend is sending me Nexus 4 as gift.
a. Will I get Google Support after sales in India?
b. How much would be the custom's tax?
no warranty support in India
Gifts should not have tax when importing to India

In India, again we might have a different value, something like say 25k approximately.
So, this 2.06% is on the USD rates or on the INR rates?
Thanks a lot for the customs info.
All questions belong here in Q&A not in General so please post in the correct sub-forums going forward.
Thanks

If you want me to walk away and look for help somewhere else, let me know. But I'm new to this one and don't disappoint me straight away on my first day of xda-developers page.
If not, do unregister me from the forum. I wouldnt mind at all. I would look somewhere else

With that attitude, perhaps XDA is not the place for you. I'd advise you to read the forum rules.. Especially since you know that it isn't legal and chose to ignore them.

I don't know those illegal forums, besides linking you there would probably be just as forbidden as discussing this topic here
Thread Closed for obvious reasons. OP do not ask/post such questions....and seems you know why.

Does the phone come with capability for both GSM and CDMA, or do you purchase which ever one you need?

Thanks Bro. I have. I see both listed in specs, as if both come on the phone. I don't see anyone specifically saying if you need to get one or the other.

Appreciate the reply. Thanks given.
I made the mistake of making the question a two optoin question. I presume by 'Yes it does' is the answer the the first option, which means the phone covers both, so a person could goto whichever carrier he wanted between VZ and any of the GSM carriers.
Thanks again.
Sorry for the double post. Long time for refresh and I ended up double posting. Forum apparently doesn't allow users to delete posts.

Correct. The phone will work on all major US carriers
