"Ok google" sometimes refuses to respond > S8 & S8+ Any solutions? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

First noticed this in Android Auto car mode app.
Occasionally it just wont respond to "OK google"
I can start my journey, make a call using "OK google"
This can work fine, but sometime it will just stop listening.
It seems to happen after a call was made. Its as if the Call app has not released the mic.
This doesn't always happen and seems inconstant. It can happen from any screen not just Android Auto.
My wife's S8+ behaves in the same way
Once it is ignoring the "OK google" command. you need to go into the google app and it will start working again
However it has on one occasion stopped working in the app. A reboot fixed that.
Anyone else having this trouble or have a theory or a solution for this?

I have been encountering the same issue as well.

Google Now Mic issue

I flashed CLoudy 1.4 on my VZ980 a few days ago, and only today did I go the use Google Now and noticed the "Ok Google" hot word doesn't work. No problem, I tapped on the mic and get the familiar sound like the microphone starts to listen, but then it stops after 2-3 seconds and doesn't hear me at all.
SO I tried installing Open Mic+ to see if that works...and the hotword works flawlessly. With the screen off, I can say "Ok Google" and it turns on and changes to the google now interface and the mic button turns red as if listening and then turns off again.
There must be a check box or download I'm missing, but what? I've went thru the settings in google now and the hotword detection is on, setting all look correct.
I'm thinking it has to be a phone issue more than a ROM issue that is why I am asking here.

Wow, no one has this issue?
try the openmike+ threads
send from the jungle
I had this happen too on the stock rom, but determined it was g2 xposed causing the issue. Once I disabled long press to launch voice search, this stupid bug stopped. Really annoying, I feel your pain.

OK Google very flakey

For some reason when I'm trying to use ok Google on any screen it is very spotty if it works or not. Occasionally it will work, but most of the time it just doesn't do anything. I have any screen turned on and I also have it turned on so that should detected when the screen is off. Very rarely do either of these work, & I have to go back to the home screen and hit the microphone for it to work. Anyone know how to fix this? I have tried retraining a couple of times also.
Google App --> Settings --> Voice --> "OK Google" detection --> Retrain voice model
The service that does that apparently gets killed after a while, requiring a reboot. It's happened to me a bunch of times, for more than a year now, since the N6. It happens with other random stuff too. The N6 has a "safety" (according to a Moto rep at their forums) feature that rings the first 2 seconds or so of a phone call or alarm/timer at very low volume before it rings at full volume. Also for when you switch to speakerphone. Whatever service causes this behavior does get killed as well after a while, and the N6's alarms and rings sound off at full volume immediately, until after a reboot.
Honestly...Google Now has gotten so unreliable for me I've stopped using it. It used to be flawless...but I feel like the more they add to it the worse it gets. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.

Yes, the Nexus 5 was much more reliable.

This is an issue with Google Assistant. Seems to happen every once in a while for some reason, at least it did on my G5 after it updated to Assistance. Retrain the voice model.

I've had this. It's a big where Google thinks the mic is in use. Only fix is reboot that I've found
Either reboot or force close the Google app. Sometimes closing all apps in your recent apps menu works but I just force close the Google app
My "OK Google" voice detection keeps turning itself off in the settings. So I have to go in, turn it on and retrain the voice model. Super annoying.

I saw an article on Android authority that advised users with the "ok Google" voice detections problem to go in to apps and clear all data for the Google app. Then reboot and retrain voice. It worked for me so far.

I've done that and it still happens randomly. Force close the app or wait a little it comes back. I'm like 99% positive it's something to do with either Googles servers or some bug in the app somewhere
Yeah, it's a Google assistant issue. Happens across all three of my devices. My Google Homes have been acting wonky today, too.

I had this issue up until the last update.
Clear the Google app data by going to Settings – Apps – Google app – Storage – Manage Space and tap on Clear all data. Then restart the phone and you should now be able to retrain the voice model. Go to Settings – Google Services – Search – Voice – “OK Google” detection – Retrain Voice Model. The voice command should now work as expected.
Hi,
I also have the LG G6 and unless I literally shout 'OK Google' it will not active Google assistant. Any ideas on how this can be fixed? I have tried everything already suggested.
Thanks,
Sam

Same here.

I have tried everythng to get my mic working again. It work fine if i record video. But calls, and whatspp, skype and other apps cant use the mic. Anyone...I contacted LG and they said they have to fix it? But to me it seems software related.

The update fixed the issues for me.

[Q] "OK Google" unresponsive after Nougat update.

9/10 times my phone doesn't respond to my "OK Google" commands but it used to work perfectly fine before the recent update(s). I've dug through the settings, re-done my voice profile several times, but can't get it to stay consistent. Anyone else experiencing this?

Google Assistant not responding to "OK Google"

Hello, I have had my V20 for a couple of months now but seem to have an odd issue with Google Assistant responding to "Ok Google". Basically it does not respond unless the phone is a bout 10cm away from my mouth but when it does eventually respond and starts listening it picks up my voice flawlessly.
I have re-registered my voice multiple times.
Registered my voice from different distances
Wiped the google cache.
Tried it just the stock google launcher.
Excluded google enrolment from the optimised battery settings.
Had a search round XDA and cant find any other suggestions
General phone calls are working without issue.
Phone - H990ds
Software - V10f-TWN-XX
Build - NRD90M
So before I go and wipe the phone any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Hi I've got the same issue have you found a solution yet.
