S8 Text Messaging on At&t - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

Beating my brain. I have noticed when I receive a lengthy text message it does not show the entire message. It gives me the option to "view all". I have searched the forums and the phone and can't seem to find an option to show the entire text. Is this just and At&t thing or Samsung?

I'm with Rogers and I have the same issue.

Hangouts app

But if the other person isn't using Hangouts then it still is horrible

Facebook app does it as well. Most people have it because Facebook forces it via mobile IF you want to message people..

Yaata
Textra
Pulse
Are all amazing texting apps!
Yaata is the most customizable...And my favorite - also has chat-heads, but Android O won't support chat-heads, as of now - But we still have about a year on that.
Textra is the easiest and looks GREAT, and it's been around for a long time (at least since my S3 days, probably longer). Maybe a little smoother than Yaata, but not as many options.
Pulse is new (ish), but seems to have great features.

Facebook messenger is my go to default for sms. Mostly because of the chat heads and integration with all my FB messages

If you use Google photo you can create a link to your video in Google photo then share the link on stock messaging app with a few simple key strokes . Simple for me since I don't need all the bells and whistles from other message apps, nor do I care to familiarize myself with a new message app.

Are there any sms-pop ups like this one for wm?:

Would be great to have a good looking sms pop-up app that shows photo of the sender like this one, seems there are several available for Android but all the ones I've found for wm looks like ****
Try SMS-Chat by Vito Tech, it has a pop-up that is pretty similar to that.
I know but I don't think it shows an image of the sender...
S2U2 does this, but it will only show if the lock screen is on.
And the picture wont be that big.
Just use XDAndroid, or get an Android phone haha.
Edit: Wait nevermind, I see use already use it, haha. Good choice.
Yes it's very nice, the problem is I can't use it at daytime or at work due to the battery drain, so I only use XDANDROID at home at the moment. But it was XDANDROD with handcent sms that first made made me go wow! and wondered why we don't have anything like it in wm...
You've probably already seen it but it takes it even one step further and allows you to fast reply in the pop-up:
Oh, really? With the latest builds I have been getting fairly decent battery life as long as I'm not constantly using data connection. So I have been using XDAndroid pretty much as my main OS throughout the whole day. But I also have an extra battery just in case.
I do really like the SMS popup with Handcent. The quick reply is really what sells it for me. Very useful.
Well I have constant data connection with push mail and stuff running so it really makes some difference I've noticed but yes the battery life has improved a lot in new releases and isn't way behind wm now except for when using wifi that is!!!
I'm searching something like this too?
+1
Im looking this!!!!
Cheers!

Did you send a large amount of messages?
This happens when you send too many text within a short amount of time. Just restart the phone and you can continue sending your messages again without interference. If it starts popping up again you can just restart again.
This is what happens when you booty-text half the girls in your address book.

Eh, the limit was actually reduced to 30 messages every 30 minutes in Jellybean from 100 / 30 in ICS. Kind of low IMO, especially when using desktop SMS services - very easy to send multiple messages.
Also, just a poor implementation of the feature overall - should have options to dismiss the warning forever, per app, or at least for an X hour period.
This wasn't an opinion question. I just want to know if there's a mod for this

Everything on the internet is an opinion question. Try this:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32263-fix-jelly-bean-sms-warning-dialog/
CM10 allows this setting to be changed but stock Android has it locked at 30 texts per 30 minutes, which is absurdly low for someone who texts frequently or has a girlfriend who doesn't ever stop texting you
I'd like to see the ability to edit this setting in a future stock release but in the mean time if it is really bothering you, check out a custom rom that features the ability to manually adjust this setting.

[Q] [TMO] Group Messaging Support?

So I've had my phone a little over 2 weeks now and still have not figured out how to get group MMS to show up in a single thread vs individual threads.
Most of my coworkers use iPhones and use group messages to coordinate in the field and its a huge drawback for me not being able to reply to all. My Nexus 4 handled this just find but I haven't found a way to enable it within the stock SMS app.
If anybody has a work around or directions to what I'm missing I'd be extremely grateful.
Thanks!
New Hangouts with sms/mms support. Stock app sucks for multi/prop/carrier devices. The only carrier app I have found that works well, almost perfect, between synced multiple devices even, is Verizon messages. If your trying to reply to all, why would you even want to show in individual threads... this is part of the problem. Enable group conversations, even in stock it shows multiple people in one thread for me.

The stock app from my Nexus 4 worked great and had the options to make group messages MMS and show all recipients in a single thread. On the T-Mo (so far as a I know, I think AT&T as well) there are no options within the stock messaging app for ANY group options.
I've seen people switch to using a 3rd party app like textra but I'm a bit disappointed that single-thread group MMS was not included for us (T-Mo).
Stock apk, a all I have is this. Works fine in one thread, multiple people. Pictures too. Though, no iPhone contacts. Verizon messages work with everything for me. I'm pretty sure the iPhone thing had been a long standing problem. I once remember using a modded apk that converted all to compatability(mms+). It also had a dark theme, looked exactly like stock,

Unusually high battery usage with Textplus

Hi,
I've recently been having an issue with Textplus consuming a lot of battery power on my Nexus 4 (pics attached at the end). I was on stock rooted 4.4.2 while having the issue, then installed CM11 on hells-core, hoping a reformat and reinstall during the process would fix the issue.
Is this normal for Textplus on 4.4.2? I'm definitely not using it more than other apps, but I do use it for both regular and free texts. It stays in the background, and I send texts a few times a day.
I'm also unable to mark regular texts in Textplus as read, and in my phone's settings the app can't be marked as the default SMS app. To mark texts as read I need to run hangouts.
I would like to continue using this app, but as it stands it doesn't seem worth it. Does anyone here have a similar issue with the app?

Looks like you need to get another similar app. Try sending an email to the developer and/or check their website to see if they have a support page.

Get app ops starter from the play store. In it turn off location for text plus

Thank you, I just sent them an email with the issue. Also @jd1639, I was thinking it had to do with location requests, I'll download that and let you know.

Nexus 6/Lollipop to introduce another NEW SMS/MMS messaging app

So that icon on the bottom of all the Nexus 6 renderings that some of us thought was a new Hangouts icon is actually another new SMS/MMS app. I guess enough people didn't like the text messaging - Hangouts integration. Direct quote from Google as well as info from AndroidPolice below.
Messenger and Hangouts offer users choice, each have their own benefits. Hangouts work great for cross platform (web, iOS, Android) and cross medium communications (video, voice, messaging, SMS). Messenger will be specially designed to be a quick and easy way to send and receive SMS and MMS messages on Android; more to come (Nexus 6 will come with both apps).

That's nice. Though I wish Google would just integrate them both flawlessly and have one unified messaging system.
As long as the app has had the full material design makeover i'll use it over hangouts. Hangouts always had a problem with closing in the background on me no matter what the phone but the stock one didn't and it annoys the hell out of me
Awesome. I think if Google just keeps changing the stock apps from one version of Android to another it will really enhance the useability of the ecosystem. Nothing makes things easier than having to relearn an interface over and over again.
Like the pointless recent design changes to Chrome. I love those. It was so annoying how I had gotten used to the way Chrome works. Where are the stumbling blocks and unnecessary changed features? Without those things there is no joy.
The best thing would be if Google changes the order of the back, home, and whatever that square button is, with each version of Android. Even better, they could switch which shape correlates to which function, while simultaneously changing the positions. And really, why not try putting the navbar on the top or side or back of the phone?
Thank God for gratuitous changes, otherwise life would be so painfully convenient.
They need to have a standard, stock SMS app for AOSP reasons. I don't really see them ever getting rid of it.
Hopefully this unifies the messaging system.
