Home button - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Not sure if this is normal or not, but does anyone else's home button not work (vibrate or light up) when you have a notification waiting?
The only way I can view the screen is by lifting the screen or pressing the on/off button.
is this normal?

Looking for something that will allow me to swipe my finger to shut the screen off. Any ideas

If you hit the power button on top of the phone that does it IIRC (obviously don't hold the button otherwise you turn it off!)
I use S2U2 and this is how I lock the phone

[Help]Turning the display on/Lock hardware button

Guys wanna ask something..
Pressing the power button turns of the display, will pressing the other buttons (Call, home, Back, windows) bring the screen beack on?
I just realized mine is like this.
Can i lock the other buttons so that only the power button brings the screen back on.
Any registry tweaks for this.
Thx.
+1 from me.
I swear I thought only pressing the power button brought the lock screen up. Now ANY button brings the device out of standby.
lol i just realized that just now

Backlight & Phone Locking Questions

A couple of quick questions for people who have actually got the phone:
1) Is there an easy way to turn the backlight/screen on/off (to save battery) at the press of a button as you can on most other touchscreen phones?
2) How easy/quick is it to lock/unlock the phone?
3) Approx how many seconds is it from when you press the power button to when the phone is fully loaded and ready to be used?
Thanks in advance!

1. Briefly press the Power Button.
2. To Unlock ~ Swipe your finger across the screen.
3. Depends:
Are you talking of from Powering On or from switching the screen back on?
If from Powering On:-
It really depends on how many Apps/Drivers installed but mine takes around 25 seconds from a long press on the Power button to fully loaded.
If from just switching on the screen:-
Instantly.... and can be switched on either with a brief press on the Power button or the Home key at the bottom of the screen.
Thanks for the reply!
I presume the power button is on the very top edge of the phone?
So would I be correct in saying that a brief press on the power button actually turns the display off (effectively locking the phone from the point of view of accidentally pressing something on screen if it's in your pocket for example) ?
But if the home button turns the screen back on in the same way as the power button, wouldn't THAT be prone to accidentally activating the phone when you don't want it to?
I've always found it much quicker to simply turn off the display instead of actually locking it.

The power button is on the side of the phone, on the right side.
If you press the power button on Android it will lock and shut off the screen yes.
and you press the home button on any android device it usually activated the screen and then you have to swipe to unlock.
Thanks...I was getting confused.
So when you briefly press the power button, it actually "locks" the phone and turns off the display and needs to be "unlocked" with another press of this button & a finger swipe.
Is this hard coded or can you stop the "home" button from also trying to lock/unlock the device, i.e. can I simply use the power button to lock/unlock and the home button doesn't do anything in this state??

It is hard coded.
However, to switch the phone on using the Home button does require a significant press and it is recessed.
Very quick to unlock the phone, whether you use the swipe to unlock or the Android 'join the dots' security. I actually prefer this as you have a decent sized clock on the screen.
I presume the Simcard PIN request on device startup works the same as it does on Windows Mobile devices?

Menu Button glitch

I'm just wondering if anyone else is having a problem with the menu button. When I press mine it gives me a long vibrate, then acts like a home button (either takes me to the center screen or to the overview of all 7 screens). It it seems like it takes longer to do this than the home button does. Does anyone else have this issue?

Which button to be pressed for going to homescreen

Hi
I just recieved my Op2 and I am really irritated its not allowing me to go to home screen. Left button if to go back and right button list all apps. When I press middle button it does nothing. Only in logout state it act as fingerprint scanner. Is middle buutton pressable?
Not sure how can I reach to home screen. Can some one suggest.
Actually, the fingerprint sensor doubles as a home button.
If touching it doesn't bring you back to homescreen, then I'm afraid your OPT is defective.
Yes. The middle button should double up as a home button but only if you are using hardware keys. If you have enabled the On screen Nav bar then the button will only work as a fingerprint sensor .
