Baseband Collection/ Switching Guide - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Guides, News, & Discussion

I really think there should be a thread on XDA with tested methods to switch baseband as a lot of people face trouble with GPS etc on custom ROMs. Ideally we should be having a collection of TWRP flashable zips instead of having to install stock firmware via tools like Miflash and then doing everything from the beginning.
This zip from Davideavinavil is TWRP flashable and it works perfectly for me. It doesn't improve things drastically from stock Marshmallow Indian ZUI baseband but would be great for if your GPS is not working or something.

To get the baseband from latest Indian ZUI Nougat Beta follow these instructions from zukfans by Magz Heaven. Tested on my own phone which previously had the above Davideavinavil zip flashed and is now on M8996FAAAANAZM-1.76387.1.92759.1. I wiped everything TWRP then flashed this in fastboot and then went back into recovery and flashed ROM + GApps. If you want to run this in Linux open the bat file as text and use the same fastboot commands with those files in your pwd.

1. Will bootloader be locked again after flashing baseband?
2. Do I have to flash ROM after flashing baseband?
3. Does bluetooth connectivity depend on baseband?
Thx

1. Yes its possible that your bootloader gets locked after flashing. If you do it wrong and doesnt check it after first reboot you can brick your device.
2. No you dont.
3. Someone said when you only flash the NON-HELOS.bin file you can get problems with bluetooth. If its right I dont know.

Thanks for your response. Only reason i asked about bluetooth is because only ONE custom rom works for me bluetooth wise. I'm unable to connect to my cars headunit with any rom except resurrection rom. Would flashing a modem help this? my modem is 9-00026-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.63821.1

Flashing custom roms shouldnt change the baseband. Does connecting work on rr with this baseband? Do you have problems with other bluetooth devices except your car?

Sorry I probably didn't explain that the best. Flashing ROMs doesn't change my baseband but I'm wondering if changing my baseband will fix my Bluetooth problems. Yes RR works with my current baseband and my Bluetooth works with every device I've tried, on flashing to a different ROM none have worked sadly. I've tried to ask around if other people have issues but they all say their BT is working as it should haha

I flashed this zip onto my z2 plus and the phone has stopped completely. Its not booting nor am i able to go to recovery.
It flashes ZUK message and then goes silent completely.
Have i bricked the phone? Can i recover it?
Thanks

Will this baseband work for the UK? Sorry if this a silly question

Flashing a New Modem / Baseband

Hi there,
I just started testing a custom ROM (audax) on top of my G928G that was originally running with PDA G928GUBU2AOJ4 / CSC G928GZTO2AOJ4 with arter97´s kernel and Phillz Recovery.
All went well with the ROM flashing.
But then I downloaded the modem / baseband from the ROM´s thread (CP-MODEM G928F: Modem_XXU2AOKB) and tried flashing it with Odin (using the CP option).
I hit the start button and it appeared to be flashing... but returned a fail at the end.
The cellphone is fully operational.
What did I miss? Do I have to flash the modem AND the bootloader together for it work?
Thanks in advance!
Well... just tried flashing the bootloader and modem, and this is what I´ve got...
Any ideas?
You may need to get the equivalent for the G variant that you have. I've tried cross flashing modems before on my W8 variant, without success. It's possible that it may work with some modification, but I'm not sure what would be required (or if that is even right). If you just download the full ROM for the G variant from somewhere like sammobile then you can extract at least the modem and flash it..

A total newbie flasher needs help

Hi.. I'm in way over my head trying to install a more debloated Rom than the original stock. Unfortunately I didn't succeed very well.
I tried two different ROMS and both of them turned the Sim off and on every second or so. Lots of *pling* noises followed by a message that the Sim card was or wasn't present. It changed so much back and forth that I didn't even get a chance to enter the pin. I belive it is because of some combabillity issues between the rom and baseband/radio version
This lead me to the question: How do I know what rom and baseband would be the most suited for me? I'm living in Denmark (nordic country), but I simply can't figure what rom that is compatible with what baseband.
Boot into Odin mode and verify the model number. Then go to Sammobile.com, download a rom for your country, and install it with Odin.
Did you buy the phone in the country where it is being used?

Sorry if what I'm asking is obvious, but when I install a custom rom, I also need to make sure I install a compatible radio for my area, right?
Sammobile is only stock ROMS, right? And I'm trying to debloat her phone. So when installing a custom rom from this forum and either the reception is bad, it doesn't register Sim card properly or the like.. It might be because I need another baseband than the one that came with the rom right? And what do I need to look for in that regard?
Sorry, but I find it pretty complicated.
I recommend flashing a completely stock ROM, set it up, and make sure everything is working properly. If it doesn't work properly on a stock ROM, it is unlikely it will work properly on a custom ROM.
I find it best to run the latest bootloader and modem regardless of which ROM will be used with the phone.
Problems can sometimes occur when flashing current ROMs over old bootloaders and modems.

Thank you for the already helpful reply.
The thing you say about always flashing newest modem regardless of rom, is very helpful. I didnt even know you could do that. But my problem persist:
I already flashed back to stock, and it runs fine. SO far so good. The problem is that out of 16 GB, the bloatware is justing taking up to much space. But the last two rom I tried both had problems recognising the SIM card (toggled present/not present all the time).
Thats not the case on stock.. So how do I find the proper modem for my phone to use with a custom rom?
I keep seeing a link to sammobile, but all I can find is the bloated stock rom (or I dont know what to look for). Can I grab just the modem somewhere?
When installing a custom rom, it changes the current modem right? AFAIK I have to flash the proper modem afterwards, right?
And therein lies my problem: I dont know how to find the most suited one for my country (which is denmark). And the one that comes with the roms seems to be the wrong ones.
PS: A follow up question: Kernel and baseband/radio/modem is not the same, right? The kernel is not region specific, as the baseband/radio/modem, right?

Custom ROMs can't change your modem, they can't write to those partitions.
In other words, your modem will be the same no matter what. The only way to change it is to flash the appropriate modem files or an actual stock ROM.
SO with the stock rom working now, the modem/rom combination would not be the culprit if something doesnt work afterwards?
What could have been the issue with the sim card connecting and disconnecting every second on the other rom I tried? (Iperium/Imperial something)

What I said is that a custom ROM can't change your modem. But that doesn't mean it can't be affected by your modem.
You may want to read Imperium ROM's install instructions very carefully, cuz I'm pretty sure you missed something important.
Doh.. You might be right.. Ill try flashing the tar files in Odin.
But I just recently got my phone to behave when connecting on Odin.. It also connected back and forth all the time. Putting a USB hub in the middle solved it though (and made it possible to revert to stock). Any idea wht that was about? I reckon either some driver or USB power problem? But Im really fumbling understanding it all, and when it acts up at the same time, even the most simple problems can be hard to see through (because there is always the uncertainty that I misunderstood something basic)..
Just having this conversation helped me understand a lot better how the ROMs and modem is connected (or more precise: How they are not).
And I actually may have had the right baseband all along (Nordic Countries). I will know when I tried flashing the rom again.
Thank you very much
It doesn't matter where you are from, the phone should work with any baseband in any country.
The thing is that some ROMs (like Imperium here) may require a different modem to function properly. In this case, it may require the PG1 modem (listed in the Imperium thread) to solve your problems.
Before flashing a stock ROM, confirm the model # in download mode.
If you want a debloated stock ROM, you could flash a stock ROM, flash TWRP recopvery, flash supersu for root, and use Titanium Backup to freeze or uninstall apps.
So right now I tried flashing the Resurrection Remix ROM, but it wont make any calls (a voice just says that the number cant be reached, even though I know the numbers exist). What could be the case there?
The modem and bootloader may be too old.
can it also be to new?
I have consulted the below site several times, but the link is dead to the page where I can look up what modem to use.
Can someone please point me in the right direction of which to use?
This site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
What modem should I choose for my phone? Living in Denamrk and trying with the ressurection remix rom? I tried 3 different of the modems starting with XX but all have the same problem: I cant make any calls. It just says that "there isnt any members on the selected number".
Making calls works fine on stock rom

The ones linked in the Imperium ROM thread are the newest.
And no, it can't be too new.
It's probably something related to your phone model not being fully supported by the ROM.
JDCTeam ROMs should work, because they support a wide range of S4 models.
I got stock rom to work (again again)
And now I managed to flash the JDC Team you recommended and still having the baseband from the stock rom (Which were able to make calls)
But whatyaknow.. I STILL cant make outgoing calls on the custom roms! What in the world can be the problem? I spent the whole day on this.
.. I should be able to make outgoing calls without flashing Gapps, right?
Yes, you should be able to make calls without gapps.
You flashed the latest stock rom and confirmed everything works?
You confirmed the model number in download mode?

Flash Stock Rom: What will happen?

Hello guys,
my phone is rooted and has a unlocked bootloader. Though my phone is rooted, I received the recent Nougat Update for our phones and installed it. After that I had several problems like bluetooth not working and bad network quality (internet and call quality).
My question now are:
1. What will happen, if I completely reinstall the stock rom? I don't mind' if I loose root.
2. Is there a Manual / Guide how I can flash the stock rom?
3. Is it possible to lock bootloader again (meaning that I want to make the phone like factory state again or like i buyed it the first time).

You can roll back to stock but i recommend you to get a custom rom.
But if u really wanna get the stock version then just download the MM stock rom package and place the UPDATE.APP file of stock rom you downloaded into your sdcard/dload.
You need to create the dload folder in your sd card and then power off the phone and press vol up and power button. Phone will reboot into recovery and start the process.

Do not use official Nougat by Huawei. It has many problems including battery drainage faster than MM also it has bluetooth and some signal issues. I am currently using Meticulus custom rom (CM13). Works fine with no problems.

Lenovo Z2 Plus/ZUK Z2 Plus Baseband Update Guide(Keeping Bootloader Unlocked)

Q. Whats Baseband?
Baseband in laymans terms refers to the radio drivers or blobs of the device.
Many users have complained of their bootloader getting relocked after updating their baseband through a zip file through TWRP or even through fastboot
This guide is for updating the baseband through fastboot WITHOUT RELOCKING THE BOOTLOADER
Using this Method Wont Touch Your Bootloader Keeping it AS IT IS (In the same state as without flashing this baseband)
Many a times after updating baseband or restoring firmware backup through TWRP we cant hear sound or the reciever cant hear us during calls OR sometimes in your custom ROM or sometimes even in latest ZUI you cant get VOLTE working despite all correct APN settings
If you face this problem then updating your Baseband will Solve the Problem Most Of the Times
DO NOT USE THIS ON MARSHMALLOW STOCK ROM OR MARSHMALLOW BASED CUSTOM ROMS IT WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS
USE THIS ON NOUGAT STOCK ROM OR NOUGAT/OREO BASED CUSTOM ROMS
CAN BE USED WITH LOCKED BOOTLOADER ON STOCK ROMS
If TWRP is installed then take a backup of your efs partitiom
Using This Tool Will update the Baseband to M8996FAAAANAZM-1.76387.1.92759.1 (Latest Nougat Baseband)
1.First download the tool from this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2CgYqnPbCh_Q2N0Vmd1d00ySFk/view
2.Download and unpack archive
3.Load the phone into fastboot mode.
4.Connect to PC.
5.In the folder with the unpacked package: Run cmd and then flash_radios.bat - follow instruction on screen.
6.Reboot.
For Installation without PC flash this zip file by davide which i have edited so that it doesnt lock the bootloader or change the splash image, using custom recovery.

If u don't need volte than u can dirty flash baseband on any rom naugat or oreo.
But i think volte is gone because baseband is being flashed with some errors. So it can cause problems like signal fluctuations and wifi instability..
For those who getting volte and calling voice bugs...
Flash deodex zui 2.5 indian ..
How i solve my prob
Basically i try oxygen os marshmallow based rom(which degrade my baseband to a mm one) and then i restore my naugat twrp backup....then the voice bug happen.....
Then i flash the latest indian baseband from zuk fans forum....on my custom naugat rom(viper os)
After flashing voice bugs gone...but my volte stops working....
Then i flash deodex stock zui 2.5 indian and enable volte(volte works at this stage) and then flash my custom naugat again ...and everything is fine
SO THE STEPS ARE
1..Flash baseband ..then check if everything works fine or not(basically check ur volte and voice call)
If not then follow step 2
2..Flash stock zui2.5 indian....after zui flashing check everything will be working great ..(don't forget to enable volte in stock)
3...Now its upon u whether to flah custom or not
..................ENJOY.................
NOTE: MY DATA IS SAFE...BY ABOVE STEPS U WILL NOT LOOSE UR DATA
M giving some reference link down below hope i helped u

IMEI problem on october patch oreo rom (stock moto)

Hey guys, I tried flashing the stock moto oreo rom (october patch) through 1. flashing via fastboot and 2. twrp flashable rom.
Both methods worked but I lost my IMEI, regardless of which method I flashed the rom with.
I had made two EFS & Persist backups (one from resurrection remix rom and one from a twrp nougat june patch rom) and tried to restore them after flashing the moto oreo rom, but no success.
Can anyone help me with this? I really want to use the stock oreo rom!
Please help guys!

Do a stock ROM flash using fastboot method, without "erase modest1" and "erase modest2" codes. It has solved my IMEI problem and it may solve yours also....

You probably have a corrupted persist partition. If you flash the soak test 1 firmware (link is in the TWRP flashable Oreo thread) you may get back your signal.

Could you provide a direct link to the ROM you're referring to? I tried searching for it in your thread but couldn't understand which one to download.

Links below. (Sorry - they are buried in the FAQ post - "On soak test 2 or later, I have my IMEI but no signal. What can I do?")
Android File Host - oreo-soak1-firmware.zip
Dropbox - oreo-soak1-firmware.zip

yes that's to be flashed with TWRP. Just dirty flash it over the top of your current rom.
All it is is a few partitions from stock oreo - modem, dsp, fsg. These are used in some way for connectivity, so hopefully they fix things up.

Hey just one more thing to add. After flashing the ROM you provided, the audio quality is really bad on music streaming apps except for YouTube. How do I fix this?

No idea. Post in the stock Oreo thread and ask if others are seeing this, especially those that need to use the soak test 1 firmware

Hi, Look, I have a problem with my Moto G5 plus cell phone. I do not have a mobile signal, according to what I have seen and seen on my cell phone, it is because it does not detect any EFS / IMEI partition, I think it would be useful for me to help you with your backup. EFS for me to resture it to see if it works, do not worry about the IMEI I have the original mine please help me with that I would thank you ..... or anyone who can help me ....

Have you ever flashed someone else's persist file?
If yes you're most probably screwed. All this things like persist (incl. IMEI) and efs are unique to every device. You don't write which android version you're on, maybe it could help you what @NZedPred posted above, flashing soak test Oreo 1 via TWRP.

Thanks for your reply ... I have not tried to update another EFS folder from another device ... I currently have the version of Android 8.0 ROM Google experience, but it's the same ... the IMEI comes out but no signal ...
and the file to flash of TWRP does not work ... I tried to make a backup of the EFS folder with an application and it says that "SORRY, WE CAN NOT DETECT ANY EFS/IMEI PARTITION ON YOU DEVICE"
THANKS.
