Gap between front glass to the metal frame bigger than usual (Galaxy s8) - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Is anyone has this problem with their new Samsung s8? I had noticed that the gap is quite bigger than the others s8 (compare to second one that I ordered, and the units displays in bestbuy) and it gather quite some dust in the gap after only one day of use.
I ordered to samsung.com and the color is Black. So if I want to exchage the unit what options do I have ? Any input is welcome, thanks

My S8 plus' glass and metal frame meet together without any gap. No doubt, I'd exchange before the return period is over.

mine has a gap in the back glass. i noticed something sharp and realized the glassh is not perfectly aligned with the metal frame! damn it! i can even push the glass.

X1 Front Housing

Can anyone verify if the front housing has a thin plastic layer covering the touch screen? I have a tiny scratch here and I'm considering buying a front housing if I can verify that piece of information.
what you are looking fore is generally called a
screen protector
there are tons of them around
don't believe x1 comes with one
at least mine did not
he is asking if there is a thin layer of film between the screen and the outside (so u touch the film and not the screen directly) like some laptops have.
i dont think the x1 has that film layer
No, there is not. The front cover is only a frame and the touch foil is mounted on the display.
Yes, you need a screen protector as Rudegar wrote.
Thanks
Thank you all for your replies. My phone is only 20 days old and I did order a Martin Fields screen protector that hasn't arrived yet. I had the protective film, which originally came with the phone, on until I realized that it was the reason for the scratch. I cut off the tip on the top right side, which you use to pull the film off the screen, hoping that I could use it until my screen protector arrives. However, I didn't do a very good job there; when I cut it I didn't do a 90 degree clean cut but rather chopped a 45 degree cut as shown in the attached photo. The tip of the stylus, as well as my finger nail I'm guessing, sliding off the slit caused an ugly little scratch right there. I am really mad at myself but there is nothing I can do now.
Another issue: I have an Arkon car holder that I used once with my Xperia for 35 minutes while I used Garmin Mobile XT for navigation. Guess what? Noticeable discolouration on the battery cover! I don't know if it's the heat, the direct sunlight (36 degree Celsius with really high UV index), the padding of the holder or a combination of reasons. I called Sony Ericsson’s local dealer in Egypt and they said I don’t qualify for a replacement cover under warranty! I emailed Sony Ericsson’s international website. Let’s see what the future days will carry for me.
I really love the phone and it came with a free 8GB memory card and full Arabic language support but it’s freaking too early to sustain such damage to this beauty. I am extremely careful with the phone and I bought the Sony Ericsson ICE-125 leather case, which I don’t like at all, to use temporarily until my Noreve case arrives. My feelings are a mixture of happiness for finally buying the phone, and sadness for not being able to maintain its perfection for more than 20 days…
One last thing
So I can replace the touch foil?!
Don't worry about it man. I have a big ass scratch on the middle of the screen and I barely notice it. I didn't wait for my screen protector as well.
You can always go to a repair shop and change the whole touchscreen .
Relief!
My Martin Fields protector arrived today! Great stuff! The scratch is no where to be seen. Thank you all!
God bless eBay!
I found the touch screen digitizer selling for less than $10 on eBay. Ordered one and planning on changing it myself. My LCD is fine; it's only the digitizer that is scratched. Will post a video and some photos when I'm done! Wish me luck!

Received my friend's old verizon sgs5, question about the amoled panel

So my friend gave me his old sgs5 for free because it is missing the battery and back plate, both of which i ordered off amazon and are arriving later today, i have a question about the amoled panel
the glass of the digitizer is flawless, no cracks to be seen whatsoever and is very smooth and scratch free to the touch; however, inside on what i can assume only to be the amoled panel itself, (unless there is another thin layer of glass between the GG3 and amoled display , which i am not sure of) on the very top right corner and about 1.5-2mm in, there is a small hairline fracture that cuts the corner, also, there is a very small fracture of the same type on the top of the panel about two-thirds of the way to the left that extends roughly 1.5-2ish-mm down the screen, but ends without cutting back to the edge of the screen.
my question is this; When i recieve the battery and back plate today in the mail, will i put it together only to find that i get no video on the amoled at all? or simply black screen except for that tiny cut-off corner on the top right, as from what i can tell that is where the main video ribbon connects?
the phone has been -somewhat- manhandled, as there are a couple fractures in the glass over the camera and some indentations on the plastic chrome ribbon that encompasses the device on the corners from what i can only assume are drops. Otherwise the device looks to be in perfect working order, and i cannot imagine that it has sustained enough impact trauma to actually hurt anyone on the mainboard if the gg3 screen itself is flawless with no blemishes.
thanks for your time, any insight is much appreciated.

There is a big chance of that happening...
I have an S3 mini screen here that is in almost perfect condition, except for a tiny fracture in the AMOLED panel very similar to yours, and the whole display doesn't turn on.

E-Ink screen scratches

Only had my YD206 for 2 days, and the rear screen got some bad looking scratches. Was in my pocket with only a very small (thumb size) aerosol dispenser which apart from a smooth rounded edge body has a plastic cap with so-so sharp top edges. Anyway, it left a couple of deep looking scratches that won't rub away.
I wish I had taken some pics before I started, so your just have to believe me:
I very carefully (and with my heart in my mouth) applied a tiny amount of toothpaste with my finger to the deepest scratch near the top of the screen. I used circular motions with my finger for about 15 seconds and then another 15 seconds with a kitchen towel. I then cleaned it off with a little water and a clean kitchen towel. Once dry I could barely see the original marks so I repeated it on a longer scratch/scuff on the middle of the screen. The marks which were very obvious to any casual user are now almost invisible.
However, I've observed that if a put a water drop on an area of the screen that I didn't use the toothpaste on, the droplet beads and will roll off if you tilt the device. If I put a droplet on a treated area it disperses and leaves a dark wet patch. This will disappear if the you dry it completely.
This leaves me to belief that the so called Gorilla Glass 3 (advertised as on the rear screen too) is not so, but is a cheap liquid glass coating which I have just rubbed off.
I have since ordered some liquid glass protector from Amazon (Crystalusion Liquid Glass - product no: B0094EETOG), maybe that will stay on and offer some protection. I don't really want to put a film protector on the back, it would spoil the look and feel. I will post the results.
I was just wondering whether I should rub the whole of the rear display with toothpaste to prime it for the liquid glass. Any thoughts?
Interesting observation. Have any one applied a tempered glass to the back e-ink screen?
I agree, on the Chinese phones, both screens are made from cheap glass, easily scratches and cracks. Curved gorilla glass must cost a lot!
It makes me wonder about the battery and other internal electronics too.
Great idea about the toothpaste.
I ordered a film for the EPD display.

Why are you saying so? YD206 should just differ in LTE bands, the phone is the same.
By the way which film for EPD display you ordered? I want to try the one described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/yotaphone-one/accessories/screen-protector-t3097978/page1
But I can't find it anymore.
I am saying phones from Chinese retailers all seem to have components that differ in quality from the old yotaphones assembled in Singapore. I have only a yd206 but I imagine Yd201 is the same. Real Gorilla glass does not scratch and break so easily.

Thanks for heads up on polywatch, that looks very interesting so I might get some. After using the toothpaste the other day, I bought another brand (Arm & Hammer) and was conscious that it was more gritty than the stuff I used on the phone (Colgate). I wouldn't have liked to use that on the rear screen.
To add to the Gorilla glass comments, if you go to the corning_dot_com web site they list the manufacturers that are licensed/authorized to use it. Yotaphone are not listed unless or course the phones are built by one of the listed suppliers. Of course that would suggest that the Russian built phones don't use Gorilla glass either - Any comments from Yotaphone on this (if your listening of course)?
I managed to drop my YD206 in my garage. Tried to catch it mid-air but failed miserably so things got worse by spinning like crazy before hitting on the rough concrete. the phone flipped a few times on the concrete for 40-50cm before coming to rest on the front screen.
Bad news are: Back glass is shattered at the lower right "corner" where the first impact seemed to be.
Good news are: Front screen and frame don't have a single, not even tiny scratch! Even though it flipped like crazy and i saw dusty and dirty hit spots where the front screen hit the edgy concrete. EPD still works 100% and glass fragments seem to hold in place (except for a small edge missing in the corner.) I'm impressed and I bet my front screen would be gone if it wasn't some higher quality glass.
I agree, it's only the curved glass that is a cheap fake version. Front glass scratches easily but seems tough.
Finally got the Crystalusion and applied it. I didn't bother to prime the rest of the phone like I said I might and I didn't need too.
Now the phone surface beads water drops and the areas I rubbed down don't absorb water like they did before.
Whether or not the surface will be protected by the coating I don't know. It doesn't feel any different, so only time will tell if it resists scratching and abrasion.
If I remember I will revisit this thread say 4 or 6 months in the future and report back.
I applied a film to the EPD back of mine, I used the supplied wet and dry wipes but there were still a few bubbles. It was extremely difficult to get rid of the bubbles, some remained.
The EPD touch screen works fine still, the phone looks almost as good as before. The film did not stick as well on curved sides as on front, but ok.
But, as someone has already written, the clarity of the screen has improved greatly, there is no more "matte" appearance (due to removal of the cheap coating). It looks like a transparent plain glass screen now. In short the EPD looks much clearer. I love EPD screen now and I am using it much more, well, ALWAYS, in fact. 11 hours battery.
The Yotaphone 2 phones bought from China EPD have NO gorilla glass is my conclusion, I agree with apludgate, just this cheap coating. The huge drop in price of the yotaphone in 2015/16 begins to become clearer, but I am very pleased to have had the chance to buy a Yotaphone. It would be interesting to know the REAL technical differences of the Chinese and Russian phone specs.
Now just awaiting next drop of phone of course

Where have you found back screen film? And how manage to use it even if the film doesn't stick on curved sides? It sould peel off eventually...
I also would like to see if the clarity improves, and what are the cons of not having the standard coating anymore.
I found glass and film on aliexpress (of course), only 3-4 usd for a set of 2 pieces.
It sticks, but not so well on curved sides as you can see from the photo. Yes it will peel off eventually.
But the vast improvement in clarity was surprising.
The fake "gorilla" glass, no doubt, offers very little protection, it was just added to make it look like a genuine yotaphone.
I would advise all owners of yotaphones bought in China to buy silicon Bumper and screen protection.

Yeah I have a bumper and a film for the front screen, but I think I'll not buy yours for the problem in photo. As previously said in this thread, I was searching something like the film described HERE but couldn't find any...
Sounds impressive. It looks very clear in the photo.
Does your screen appear matte, like mine did before?

And yes, my back screen is matte and VERY slippery, I hope that with the film above it will be no more slippery. For now I'm using a bumper, otherwise the smartphone is almost unusable

The same one as that one on Aliexpress is 2.20 USD = 1.50 British pounds including free delivery, 5 times cheaper, where the guy in Derby probably buys them from.

If you got the S7 Edge then this seller on ALi has the proper glass for your phone as well. In any case I have seen enough videos of how to apply this protector that I am now persuaded that this is indeed the ultimate screen protector for edge phones, the only thing that is to be found out, would be the quality of the glass it self.. AKA, oleopathic coating, strength and etc. These things are important as these days 90% of Chinese tempered glass has no oleopathic coating and is not even real tempered glass, it is just a cheap gimmic that breaks easy as F***. So hopefully since this whole UV glue is a next level kinda thing, the quality might still be on the high.
When mine arrives I will make a video of the installation and post it here for you guys with my comments.

So the glass i ordered arrived yesterday. Photos below. On the 1st glance, the glass appears to be of rather good quality and it seems to have a real oleopathic coating against fingerprints, which is quite rare these days with Chinese tempered glass.
As promissed i will make a video of how i apply it and post it here.

I ordered this for my S9 plus. It worked very well. It doesn't come with an install kit to balance the dispersement of the liquid, so when I installed it I missed a small edge and I installed it a little to low on the phone so my case would move it. So I removed it.
However I would recommend this product as a good alternative to the more expensive model.
Ok so LONG post, but absolutely necessary to read if you consider using this type of screen protection. My glass arrived 2 days ago and I applied it today. It is crystal clear and the visibility is at its best, touch sensitivity has not been affected at all. It is pleasant to the touch and does not feel like crappy tempered glass. (pics attached)
I had promised that I will upload a video but I did not think it trough and on the 8th minute the memory on my backup camera finished, so without my realization it turned off.
Below however are a few notes that are important and I realized it while shaking above the phone and overcoming them
1. Make sure to put a dust sticker on the TOP speaker in case some glue decides to enter there..
2. Put dust stickers above the buttons, all of them, so in case some glue leaks out it will not go inside the buttons.
3. From the place i ordered on Aliexpress, the glue that arrived may have been about 10%- 15% more than necessary in the tube, so i got leaks on the sides of the phone once the glue spread all over, I cleaned it with a napkin, it is possible that it leaked as I may have mistakenly applied a slight pressure on the glass while I placed it. I recommend that once you release all the glue from the black non-transparent bottle, you can squeeze it and then suck up about 10 15% of the glue that is on top of your screen.
4. Make sure before you start the whole procedure, to turn your phone off.
5. Do it on a FLAT surface because the glue may start moving from the middle of the phone towards the sides.
6. If you order from the same seller I did, your lamp would likely have a pre-set timer, as mine apparently does. In this case, the lamp will turn off every 45 seconds approx, that signals that you should move it on the next area (Bottom, middle, top) of the screen.
7. I would recommend that once you place the glass on top of the glue and let it spread, DO NOT freak out if it leaks. Turn on the lamp, and move it on top of the screen from top to bottom for about 40 seconds so the glue hardens just a little. Then with a napkin gently absorb the leaked glue.
8. Make sure you see at least 5-6 videos of other guys doing it so you can be best prepared.
Overall, I think it is a good option for screen protection, much better than all the NON-FULL GLUE alternatives. Aka, protectors with glue only on the sides of the glass only and not in the middle. It is tricky to apply but once you are done you will be glad you went for it. I am not sure if it is any different than the more expensive versions others people are talking about, I suspect that it is plain re-branding. The more expensive ones just come with a different brand logo, better advertisement and more promises. But, same thing in reality. At least in my case, I paid about 15$ and got 2 glasses, 2 glues, and a good UV lamp.
Quick summary: Find a dust-free flat surface with good light, clean screen, apply stickers to speaker, and all holes and buttons, gently remove any additional dust particles from screen, apply glue to middle of screen, gently place glass on top and DO NOT apply pressure, if it is not too straight you can move it a bit, If any leaks, apply UV light for about 40 seconds up and down, gently clean leaks, apply UV light for 45 seconds for 3 more rounds. At the end you may even do one more 45 second round top to bottom as I did.
Enjoy.
EDIT: After applying it the whole thing, the glue may still remain slightly sticky on the corners, so that may allow extra dust to stick on it. However, If you can, leave the phone under the sun for 10 minutes, and the glue will dry to the full, then it would be easy do fully clean the corners with your nail or some non dusty cloth. Just do not put too much pressure with your nail as you may raise the glass and allow a bubble to form.
I have ordered the same today. lets see when I receive it.

It should be... I don't see why not. The one i ordered covers most of the screen but leaves quite a bit out as you can see in the pics i posted... and that is considered not too case friendly. However to me it seems pretty compatible with all cases.
But, to be safe you can order the alternative case friendly version of the glass from the same seller. It is smaller and covers even less of the screen. I don't see the harm in getting one and trying it
Received mine today. Took 12 days to reach India. The screen guard is really good, fits perfectly. the glue is little excess so had to clean up a lot. note for next time. However I fixed the glass a little to the lower side so bundled case is almost touching the glass. Don't know in future if it will lift because of that. Overall a fantastic deal.
Hello
I received mine yesterday it took about 13 days to get to the EU, and applied it today.
The application when well on the first try,i did watch quite a few tutorials beforehand and that helped alot.
The screen protector is very clear , and you do not notice it at all, it also seems to have some real oleophobic coating.
Tactile responsiveness is on par with what you would get without a screen protector.
All in all a very good alternative to the more expensive competitor you also get two screen protectors and two tubes of glue for the same price.
If you are in the market for a screen protector dont hesitate.
Jay
Just ordered, thanks for the review & tips..
Another positive report here, although I wish I'd been a bit more careful as I have a couple of tiny bubbles near the edge. They only show up on a bright white screen so I may live with them rather than try again with the spare glass & glue.

I have the whitestone and love it. Was wanting something for a backup though. Last time I waited a week to get my warrenty replacement.
Does the AliExpress come with a tray to line up the glass? Or does the glass work with the Whitestone tray? If not, how do you get your glass lined up?

The tray you are talking about probably will work. However the standard way to align the glass is by your finger and vision. Just make sure that if you do so, do not press downwards while you are moving and aligning the glass. If you press down, it will push some of the glue out...

Few questions before buying Galaxy S10+

Hello,
I had few questions before buying Galaxy S10+ :-
1> Does the S10+ have a polycarbonate body or metal body and glass at the back ? I have used an A7 and A50 and they both had polycarbonate frames + polycarbonate at the back which looked like glass but the body of such phones actually bent very easily and had gaps. So, I wanted to know the type of materials used in S10+'s body before purchasing it this week. My choice would be one of the colours from Prism category.
2> How does the Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor compete with a dedicated one ?
3> How does it compare with iPhone X ? I have two options in my mind.. the X and the 10+. For example.. how is the speaker loudness, camera, performance etc of S10+ compared to iPhone X ?
Regards,
Ankit S.
The speaker on the s10+ is the best speaker ever. It is even better with Dolby atmos on. Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is amazing and quick (not fast i also have a whitestone dome glass screen protector on)
The frame is metal and Gorilla Glass 6.
The dual speakers are awesome, especially with Dolby Atmos turned on. Great clear sound.
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the replies.
The frame is metal.. alright.. but is the back panel is actually glass or just plastic or you meant gorilla glass 6 on both sides ?
My Galaxy S10 Plus has so many positives I can't list them all... ???? Cheers

According to Corning, the front is Gorilla Glass 6 and the back is Gorilla Glass 5.

If you go for more internal storage you will have the option to get the ceramic back rather than glass.
The cameras are really good on the S10. I think the least time Samsung used plastic on a phone was the S5. Lol

If you go for more internal storage you will have the option to get the ceramic back rather than glass.

Yeah, I know but my budget stops me. Also, I never ran out of the 64 gb storage on any of my android phones.

I hear ya, plus all versions allow SD card expansion, so internal storage really isn't a requirement.

Hello,
I had few questions before buying Galaxy S10+ :-
1> Does the S10+ have a polycarbonate body or metal body and glass at the back ?
Regards,
Ankit S.

The wait is over.. It's not one of the best smartphone, its the best smartphone. The amount might look huge in the beginning, but its worth every penny.
Power share which many phones might adopt several years
Stereo effects speakers
Fastest finger print scanner
128gb is enough if ur normal user. Anyway there is an option for micro sd card
Head phone jack
Hey Everyone,
I purchased the 10 Plus 128 GB Prism Black yesterday. The device is excellent however I am not satisfied with their quality of packaging. When I peeled out the back plastic film I could find some very minor user level scratches which could be seen under bright light from a particular angle. On the front there were very tiny air bubbles under the screen protector which were visible under bright light only when screen is off. The free case which came out from box had minor scratches as well on the outer side.
The phone came out of the sealed box and the store from where I purchased it (Reliance Digital) is one of the best electronics store in my country which is the authorized reseller of Samsung, Apple, Redmi, LG, Htc and many more. I tried showing the scratches to the staff over there but they said they couldnt find any scratches and it might just be fingerprint smudge mark or dust. The same thing happened with me when my iPhone X Silver came out of the sealed box, from the same store. All other phones that I purchased from that store like s8, iphone 6, iphone 6s, honor view 20 came out exactly perfect.
Also, I don't know why but I see one of the imei stickers missing from its place from the side of the box. One of my other Samsung phone's box had also that sticker missing (purchased from other store) whereas some other samsung phone that I purchased have that sticker. Do they peel out that sticker for some records or something like that ?
I contacted the Samsung Service Center to know about the date of first boot of my device and it was the same date when I purchased it.
