Glass Protection no good. - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

So Neither the Verizon Glass cover or the zagg cover works. Had 3 different places try to install it on my phone. Touch Screen very spotty after install. What is everyone else doing now until they fix this problem in the covers?

I've gone glassless. Tried a couple from amazon and they both would fall off. Ther are no good reviews of them either.

Is the stock glass good enough to not have something on it?

Skinomi for me perfect protection and full coverage, yes I know it's not glass but offers decent scratch protection

I'm using this screen protector and case and it's a nice low profile design and I have no issues with touchscreen or the screen protector coming off. Very fluid design.

I went with this and it came out flawless. Can't even tell by sight it's on there. Says case friendly but I'm dubious. First time I put it in my TPU it lifted a tiny bit. Second time it was perfect. I think I might not have waited long enough for it to dry completely. Right now awaiting microSD before I put my SIM and SD card in it and start using the phone.

I went to AT&T and asked them about glass screen protectors and he flat out said that if you plan on putting a case on the device, don't bother getting one. They've had no luck with installing them as the cases just lift them up, despite them being listed as "case friendly".
The only one that they had was the Zagg one. He said that I'm better off either going without a protector at all or trying to find one of those plastic ones. I'm not surprised by his statement as I've seen numerous people here complain about how difficult it's been to find one that'll work with cases.
Oh, so in the meantime, I'm going naked with the screen and using a Spigen Neo Hybrid case.

Bought one on Amazon before I got the phone. It had no reviews. I got the phone but haven't tried the glass screen protector yet. Went back to Amazon and all bad reviews now. I'll see if I can return it, I'll probably go without a protector, I think it will take a lot to scratch the glass.

So .. who dropped the big galaxy ?

Well i'm planning to buy this phone and i'm a bit scared of the plastic build
for me to be convinced ..there is nothing more trustworthy than user-experience !
so .. who dropped the galaxy .. where/how & did it effect it ?
check this out, it will answer your question:

Plastic, due to being flexible, is a MUCH better shock absorbant than super-hardened glass.
Best case scenario for a drop would be a flat-drop on the back.
Plastic used in galaxy s is so flexible that almost every drop is harmless.

WOW our phone is amazing! it can survive all that
finding a replacement screen is easy
incredible, as long as you don't drop it from over 1.5m high, you've got nothing to worry about
I didn't drop mine but I fell down with it in my pocket and now I have a cracked lens glass on the back of the phone.
I guess the lens glass isn't as strong as the plastic back!

I launched mine on a granite floor.was trying to apply a screen protector and for some reason it just flew out my hand. The back and battery ended up about 3 foot away from the rest of the phone but when i put it back together there wernt a scratch on it,and everything worked fine.
Every time I get a new gadget I go through a period where I'm terrified (well, at least worried) that I am going to drop it and damage it. No difference here. I have tried to be so freaking careful - then the other day at work as I was getting back into my car to run an errand (work related) I pulled it out of my pocket and inadvertantly threw the darn thing into a plastic/metal box on my passenger seat. I do not know how it happened. My heart just sank. Yet it appears to have come out of this minor incident with nary a scratch or sign of injury. Relieved.
I believe that it is fairly durable... thankfully.

Why not just use a case?
I think a case is always a good idea. But sometimes I just like to enjoy my gadget(s) unencumbered.
El Mono
Dropped mine three times before I decided this phone is too slippery to use without a good case.

the most noticable damange are around the slivery chrome on the side of the phone. Other than that are minor scratches around the front and the back. The screen was protected with a screen protectors from day one, so it remain scratch free.
Edited:
The case is ugly as hell, I know. but hey, whatever works right?
Wow it's pretty foolproof! but i won't try to drop it and i always cary it with me in a pullup case!

how many of yall nexus s screens have scratches

Debating on getting a screen protector my screen
Has a couple of very small scratches on the screen but u cant really see theme on less u tilt the phone and look really close I don't know how they got there cause I
Put my phone straight into the pocket maybe the couple of times I drooped it but there not even noticeable
None. I use a screen protector because it gets rid of the smudge where the coating wears out.

I've got ghost armor on my screen, but I have some dings on the four corners of the plastic surrounding the screen. I really like the ghost armor though.

Is that why my screen is sweating cause the coding on the screen is coming off
i have a lot of scratches on my display, unfortunately i can't find a fitting screen protector for my i9023...they are all for the i9020, which is of a different size...
Phone bought in december, never used a case or a screen protector, and no scratches on the screen
None and i dont have a screen protector. Got scratches on the side where my nexus fell out of my pocket and hit concrete floor. Was so happy that it didnt drop on its screen
I don't im going get one u can barley see theme
I keep mine in my old G1 pouch. I work in construction and am constantly blowing sawdust and random debris out of the pouch and off of the phone. Luckily though, the handset is still completely scratch-free... somehow.
*knocks wood*
None. Using Skinomi (front and back).

Yes, i9020a to be specific. As far as I know there is no difference between the screen size of a SLCD and AMOLED. The length and width are the same. If you go to ZAGG, Skinomi, Bestskinsever or any other brand there is only one screen protector for the Nexus S and it's not specific to any one variant (i9020, i9023, etc).
i bought a zagg as soon as my phone came. I also bought a TPU case on ebay but the case leaves micro scratched on the back of the phone

Can you notice screen lift with case?

I recently picked up two new N7's and unfortunately they both have minor screen lift. The cases we ordered are similar to the one pictured below... Can anyone tell me if its even visible/noticeable in a case like that? I mean, i cant imagine it being noticeable with the bezel being covered by the case.
Thanks

I have the exact case (except its blue) and the screen lift is not noticeable. In fact, i had ordered the slim ebay case and i switched back to the supcase because it seemed that the screen lift was worse in the ebay case. I feel that the way the supcase holds the N7 in does help

Great news! Thanks for the quick reply.
No. Anything that covers the bezel will hide it. The Slim cases typically don't cover the whole bezel except the corners. Most TPU cases will though.

I sense some sarcasm, but may as well be for me. I plan on using mine in the case full time so out of sight out of mind
And hey, a case was a valid fix for the iphone4! :victory:

Replacement rear panel

Oops.
A one foot fall from my nightstand to the wooden side panel of my bed has caused the back glass on my S7 to look like a kaleidoscope. And the worst part is that I have a case that would have protected it but didn't have it on.
Ebay appears to have some replacement rear panels. (I like the silver better than the one with which it came.) However there isn't one specific to SM-G930V. I assume any that say G930 are ok? There are versions for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and international versions.
Any thoughts on whether this international version or this international version will work?
It should work (95% certain) as they all are the same size/shape. You will lose the verizon stamp though (might consider that a plus lol).

I think the only difference would be the carrier logo on the back, otherwise if it's just the rear cover you should be fine. I personally would just put a layer of thin, clear epoxy over the cracked back and give it a unique look while still being smooth.

I've order one and will try to remember to post back after it is on.
Cadcamaro, if it wasn't for the gear vr I would put the phone on a case and not take it out. Would you still epoxy with cracks this long?

That's a nasty crack, I'd still try it though.
I decided to go for the epoxy first. That way the backing of the phone would stay together and I would just get the glass to stay in place. The goal was not to make this pretty, but to get it all to stay intact and as water resistant as possible.
First I used tape to cover the sides and camera. In retrospect I wish I had put a suction up on the screen to make it easier to hold. If anyone else tries this, also make sure you have a screen protector on as a backup.
Here's what it looked like with the epoxy. I removed the tape before it set.

Anyone have a custom non glass back?

Looking for aftermarket back that wont crack. Anyone have any experience or know where to find one? I see witrigs has a transparent one that im guessing are not glass and maybe some other custom ones. They don't say for certain they aren't glass though. Hopefully one of y'all know of other options!
Just replaced the back glass and battery last month. Just looked and the glass is broke yet again and my phone is in a tech 21 case
Haven't heard of anything like that, but it would be a better arrangement...
Try a eBay search...
Are you planning on going bareback? Haha! I mean, using phone without a case? Because I use a Spigen Tough armor case and it's slim and I have the OnePlus 6t and I've literally sat on my phone in my Mack pocket quite a few times and even dropped it on a job and then stepped on if accidentally and mines still not cracked. I weight 225 lbs and wear steel toe boots to work. Haha! All I'm saying is this Spigen Tough Armor case is great! They're the only cases I buy for my phone's these last five or so years and they're only like $15-20! Check them out if you want. I'd be scared to take my glass back cover off this baby. Haha! I'd probably ruin all sorts of crap on that mission. Then again there are many YouTube videos now on how to do it properly. Good luck.

I haven't barebacked a phone since the no deductible Geeksquad protection days haha. I've been rolling with Tech21 case on all my phones for a while now, seems they are not up to the task of protecting all that glass however. Looked all around and couldn't find a non glass replacement. Thanks for the recommendation on the Spigen case, just replaced the glass once again and slapped that case on. Very slick case and gunmetal looks great! I am tempted to try bareback again now since I seem to have great protection according the box the replacement came in haha jk.
When you do end up changed the glass or battery no need to sweat! Heat it up a tad and use a ultra thin sheet of plastic and go to town on the edges. One of the easiest phone to remove and no cables or screens in the way to accidentally mess up.
