[Q] What to expect Nougat brings for Samsung A Series (2016) - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello. Since the nougat update days gettin closer what should new os brings to our devices.
I belivie that A Series (2016) since dont have LED notification may gets AOD Display!
Whats youre opinion?!

Pretty sure its gonna be an update for updates sake with no new features excepts Nougats advancements over Marshmallow.

About 22-May

99.9% we will not have AOD samsung will never realse it for us :/ but if we have a good developer he can port it . We will have probabily new emoji reply from notification new ui and other things just chek s6/s7 our update will gonna be similar to them!

Yes but S6 and N5 has LED notification. Thats why dont need AOD. A 2017 series dosent have LED notification but they has AOD Service.

I use NoLED app with my A5 2016.
I have read today the AOD description; it seems that NoLED app is equivalent.

This doesn't mean anything for Samsung! S7 has too led notification but it has AOD features. Only the new generation will have AOD official realase from Samsung couse if samsung bring the features of s7/s8 on this smatphone probably you will buy this one and you don't spend 700€ or maybe A 2017 series that cost more than A 2016 series. So don't wait AOD from samsung for A 2016 but hope that a developer can bring it!

After we get the nougat update, if it's not with AOD, we cand simply add it by instal this: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsun...lways-on-display-2-6-73-android-apk-download/ , and patch the settings app to show the settings
Of course + more services

I don't know if is so simple, you have to add somethings on the kernel! This is the problem that our developers have not enough knowledge on the development to add AOD otherwise we wolud have AOD on MM customs rom.
Maybe on Nougat will be more simple but I don't know.

Thank You Samsung.. A small MM review

Im really enjoying the new MM 601 update on my S6 Edge...
This is entirely from my own Opinion, so feel free to chime in with any comments..
In the beginning.. the edge features were very limited to a Night Clock, a gimmicky multi-coloured contacts ringer and a few tickers, but now after the 601 update.. the Edge has become so much more worth it over the vanilla S6..
FINALLY, SS have included access to all apps to use on your side swipe edge.. like the Note Edge and the Edge plus..
Sleep battery life has been improved .. (although im still testing this)
Theyve removed more apps for you to add yourself.
(S6 always had this) Nice to see SS are now including MS Office apps as an option to Google Drive (OneDrive suite is far better for using it on any device)
Finally, we now have Shutter Speed (Edge Plus) and improved camera and UI features..
The 4G modem reception has been inproved, here in the UK on EE, I was getting 0 or 1 bar on 4G, now Im getting 3 - 4 bars.. which is great, but this varies from region to region, but here its better.
Sadly though, as of yesterdays edge app update 28/2.. they removed the Night Clock.. Why?- EDIT: Its in settings, not Edge, my bad
Your stuck with Yahoo news, so far I havent found away to change to another app..
Theyve removed the nice Lock screen swipe effects, not a biggy IMO, but I liked it..
So all in all, Ide say that the MM update is a great update to the S6 Edge and IMO, makes the Edge a much more attractive buy over the S6, so great work Samsung... BUT
Its took Samsung a whole year to get here, which IMO, these features shouldve been in the Edge since 511, I understand they had to make the Edge Plus
(we didnt get the Note 5 here in UK) an attractive buy as well, and obviously.. as the S6 has now been replaced by the S7, theyre giving the Edge everything..
but really SS.. a Whole Year,
Anyway Good work Samsung..
You can find Night clock on display settings not on edge screen

Goto settings > Turn Night Clock OFF > restart phone > Reset your Night Clock up again...
Fixed it for me..

Agreed.. Its the first Ive ever been Impressed by a Samsung update EVER... I know when Android switched to the ART file system in Lollipop, it was a huge improvment for everyone.. but Sammy have just struggled with performance.. until now.
Plus with the likes of One Plus, Motorolla, LG and now newbies Huawei offering some better and cheaper alternatives... Samsung cant really afford to just push out half baked updates, they gotta get their game face on... and lets just hope they dont try and pull another Apple with the S7 (SD Card back and bigger battery) coz it might just cost them even more than just a few lower quarter sales like it did with the S6..
What is the status of memory consumption in MM update?
After playing with themes stuck at bootloop and after hard reset I do not have the same ui experience as before.
My device turns a little lugy....
Is it just me but the photos I took from Lollipop is much better than from the MM?
Its a little grainy when I upgraded to MM. Anyone experiencing the same thing?
Hi,
after the update i dont have the option to have weather on the lockscreen, neither the steps and google now on tap doesnt seems to be present. Anyone with the same problems ? Any Fix ?
I'm on Vodafone RO.
Thanks

Cant say Ive noticed this.. flashed MM out of the box so..
Its supposed to be a batter camera experience all round.. I read anyway (Taken from the Edge Plus).. we now have Shutter Speed and a Kelvin (ala LG G4) for White Balance, which incidentally, they set it the wrong way round.. hehe, nice one SS. (slide it into the Blue section and the screen goes Yellow or warmer.. and vice versa), thats easily fixed though
Your right JurGGen.. No weather, although if you goto settings > Lock Screen and Security > Notifications on LockScreen .. Weather is there in the list, but maybe it only shows when theres Snow or Rain.
Theres a Weather App in the Samsung Apps Store.. Its under Updates.. ... find it under LockScreen security.,.. That might help, but dont know... Never been one for Weather on Lockscreen.

Not sure, but here is some of the new features of Android N..
Better Multitasking.
Better Notifications. ( Bar Toggles )
Virtual reality is a big piece of Android N.
Keyboard themes, but Samsung is gonna use their own. ( I think XD )
Better Performance with Vulkan API for graphics. New Jit compiler which will improve battery life.
Night mode. Hope Samsung get it !!
Faster App Switching.
But as we know, Samsung use their own touchwiz. I am not sure what will come and what will not come !!
Android N update could deliver improved stylus support.
Google’s new operating system includes a brand new Multi-window mode, an enhanced version of the battery saving Doze mode, a freeform window mode, a new Settings menu, faster app optimization, Night Mode, and more.
These are not my words, some of them are !!

No, that's the date of the security patch Nougat will have upon launch. Based on the preview release dates, expect it around mid-month.
As for when we'll see it on the GS7, I'll be surprised if we see it before the end of the year. This is Samsung we're talking about - look how long it took to get Marshmallow on the GS6 or Note 5.

(Possibly) a new launcher. Again doubt that this will be seen by Samsung users, but who knows.

Agreed. Maybe closer to November if we're lucky, but given how minor the update is in terms of features (Multi Window is something we already have anyway), it's unlikely Samsung will put it on high priority.
Less excited about Android N than I am about the new Grace UX though, so hopefully it either comes before Nougat in a Marshmallow ROM, or the Nougat update arrives quickly.

Exactly what I was thinking. I really like the subtle design changes in the GUI. I'm really liking the power saving mode in the N7 too.
We have Vulkan API already and I think that the only game that is supported is Need for Speed No Limits from what I know.
Source is already out, is there any Beta program from samsung ?

Nothing yet. I don't remember them doing one for the S6, but know that the beta firmware did leak on sammobile, which you could flash via odin. I am keeping an eye on their website for Nougat beta firmware as they are usually the first ones to get their hands on it.
If Samsung do a beta program i would be very surprised.

I played need for speed no limits but it has slow down on certain races and the frame rate is rarely above 60 FPS. I expect to be better in Nougat.

With this device I didn't had the Samsung experience.Updates were fast and the phone is still very responsive after 5 months with no factory resets.I think that maybe in october/november we will get the update but I don't think that it will be such a great difference!
Anybody else agree "direct boot" in Nougat is a security vulnerability waiting to happen? I'm not upgrading if I can still get patches for Marshmallow. I wanna see how this plays out over the next year or so.

Active fingerprint reader

Hello everyone!
I just had a look at the new A5 2017 because I want to buy one for my mother and a feature that was very nice and useful was the active fingerprint reader. Just rest the finger on the home button and the device wakes right from the Always on Display.
I am running android N with the new Grace UX on my S7 Edge and i was wondering if there is a setting somewhere i can enable to be able to use this feature.
I know some people will think is useless, so is no need to comment for no reason.
A5 with new hardware... soooo nope. We dont have that on s7 edge.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
That is sad. I was really liking the feature ,hope somneone will figure out how to add it later.
It's only a workaround, but downloading Always on Amoled from the Playstore is working just fine. Fingerprint is always on, no need to push it, and you get double tap to wake, plus other useful features. Definitely worth a try
it's the same hardware, only Samsung is the usual ****. improvements only on new smartphone to increase the sales

Already tried this method , but the battery drain is huge. Maybe someone will figure out how to do it exactly like the new A series.

Was going to say that having the reader on constantly may cause some form of wake lock.

Ambient Display

Is there anyone who have successfully installed "Ambient Display" at A5 2017? I got it but DisplayOn comes up and I don't know how to change it to Ambient Display.. Thanks for any help in advance
Anyone??
I've seen the Ambient Display on a Galaxy S8 yesterday, but i don't know if this phone always had this feature, or got it with Oreo.
Do you know? Porting from Galaxy S8 shouldn't be that difficult.

Hi. I didn't know that. Maybe it's clean Oreo so that way AB it's working. Google want all the phones to have clear android now to make easy and quick way to update (Project Treble). Will keep looking for more details.. Cheers
It was Galaxy Experience for sure, but it wasn't the real AMD, it just showed "Snap from XY" or "Message from XZ", but that would be more than enough for me. I think it's called "Edge Display".

How does a phone behave after the update (in comparison with Nougat)? Do you find it smoother - less laggy or faster? Btw, is it possible to enable dark theme somewhere in Settings? I was unable to find it in soak test builds.
I just updated it and it's been 10mins into update and I'm officially lovingggggggg it :victory::laugh::fingers-crossed::angel:
The UI, the notification controls and theme all is great. As u can see the quick setting panel also have dark theme...however idk if its daytime auto switching or is there any option to enable it but right now it's enabled and I'm happy to find this option.
I'll post more as i evaluate more
Did you manage to save OTA to make it flashable?
Some new actions have been added to the Moto Actions App.
There isn't any dark theme option however the quicksettings panel in notification bar changes to dark colour based on wallpaper's colour.

These actions have been available since first Oreo soak test release.
Nope i don't knw how to do that sorry
Then i guess its the same things that have been included in the final release.
The phone is now more responsive even the fingerprint scanner is faster than before (i loved this one especially)
And the ui is smooth and crisp and has less lag (no lag encountered so far)

Could you test an unlock animation with any app opened (like Settings, Dialer etc.) and animation of notification bar pulldown with YouTube full screen playback in the background, please? I remember, I encountered lag especially there with latest Oreo soak test build. Hopefully it's better optimized now.
Which variant you have?

Yes tested no lag whatsoever:
1) unlock with youyube playing
2) chrome with 56-70 tabs opened and still working smooth
3)music player and oine radio streaming and then unlocking without lag
I think the may lag if we run heavy games on it but i dont have any so i can't tell.... As far as normal-heavy usage the phone is working better than before thats for sure.

Bcoz if you update to different channel you will not able to get any ota update in future maybe there will be some bug that can soft brack your phone.
But don't panic if you know how to flash official firmware using fastboot then you can do bcoz once amzin one comes you can flash it. If not I will not suggest you to flash another channel firmware
Do you have any information about the moto g5 plus? i have not received it yet.
