First the Note 7 mess, now the Samsung Promotions debacle. - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

I ordered 3 S8+ phones from Verizon on March 30.
2 phones ship, but with 2 day air (my plan includes next day air) due to VZW rep screw up.
The 3rd phone they send an email telling me that they need more info, but nothing in the email says what they need. I get a call on the 15th and they say they need my credit card number. I told them I entered it, and it even appears on my order receipt they emailed me. Rep said they dont have it so I give it to them. They cancel my order! Then place another one (without mentioning that of course). And yes, the moron changed it to 2 day air.
2 phones get delivered on the 20th and I register right away for the Samsung promotion and choose the $99 offer on both.
3rd phone delivers today, no option to select the $99 dollar offer on that.
VZW wants to call Samsung and see if they can get them to honor the promo I missed out on due to VZW incompetence. Of course I know its not gonna happen. After an hour, the rep says she cant hold any longer for Samsung and tells me to email her when I hear from them. Another hour later, I give up.
I check the status of my orders and one says processing the other says approved. Nothing mentions paying the $99.
I have a feeling that none of them are going to happen.
What a useless promo. They had such a severely limited amount that you not only had to preorder on day one (like a lot of us) but then you also had to hope your carrier didnt screw up (like VZW), and then even though you get to select it, then you still could be out of luck.
Samsung, you blew it again. I thought the Note 7 , and the replacement Note 7 was a mess and pain in the @ss..... now this crap?

apples and oranges.

Just saw this on the Samsung website when checking my promotion status and trying to pay for the $99 bundle.

As a twist, I was able to click buy for the $99 promotion. It wouldn't let me add my credit card to samsung pay(not supported), wouldn't let me click on paypal(gave an error), and wouldn't let me just pay with my credit card (said the info was invalid). Then, my phone battery died. Now, It says the promo isn't valid. It says my submission has been approved and it's processing gift. But, since I never got to pay anything... I have no clue what is happening.

I ordered mine from Samsung website on the 17th of April. Got the $99 Bundle and both phone and bundle arrived yesterday.

I registered for the free VR and got approved for the $99 bundle? Can't get through to promotions on the phone. Tried 3 times and stayed on hold 2 hours each time with no one answering. Emailed, no response. Tried online support, took an hour to get a rep and he told me to call the 1-800 number.

Promotion is still available for me too....wish I had the extra cash!

I submitted my registry and under check status it shows that I chose the immersive package, but I'm still not approved and have no way to pay. On the Samsung website it says they're sold out did to high demand. I will be seriously bummed if I lose out since I pre ordered the first day and registered the first day I got my phone.

I checked the shop app. There was an option to buy the fully immersive bundle at $99. I bought and it. My card was authorized and I got a confirmation email.
The order shows up as confirmed in my Samsung order page as well.

I don't see any way this compares to batteries exploding. It sucks but at least you still have your phone.

I just got off the phone with the rep. I was told as long as you claimed it before it ran out you should be in the clear and just have to wait for the email to pay for it. I claimed mine on the 19th and and have not gotten the option to pay for it yet. The rep pushed my request up to the next left for faster processing, but said I had claimed the 99 bundle while they were available.

I hope that is true that if they approved you then your in the clear. I got my email approval two days ago but each time I try to purchase the bundle I get an error stating it couldn't be added to the cart try again later. Probably because they are sold out. Fingers crossed I can still get it.

I find this frustrating--that they "sold out" of the promotion on the day the phone was released (for those of us picking them up in person anyway).
The headphone/memory card promotion was part of my decision to buy the phone, and it turns out they only have 50,000?! Maybe that was in the fine print somewhere, but it should have been prominently displayed on the promo page--"The first 50,000 customers get this offer."

750,000 preorders so thats what ... 6%?
Samsung then altered that deal by allowing their preorders to get the promo at the time of preorder. Then they let the carriers choose the date the phones were delivered, further screwing up the possibility of anyone being able to get the promo.
If they had restricted the delivery to opening day, or not allowed themselves the perk of letting those who preorder with them the ability to get the promo ahead of others who ordered on the 30th (you could order form Samsung on the 16th and be guaranteed a promo but if you ordered from a carrier on the 30th you were unlikely to get it).

Yes I'm pretty pissed of about it and samsung doesn't care

POLL: Do you think activation will be forced?

Just a simple poll to get what we all think will happen. I'm so tired of reading post saying "I'll pass, i'm not getting the Xoom because it requires activation."
I know there is a WiFi coming... I just want to know if you think there will be a forced activation on the 3G/4G model.
I SAY no way.
It's not a question of IF, it's confirmed.
I think Droid-life, Engadget, and Gizmodo all said it was confirmed, BestBuy's ad said it, More importantly though, BestBuy's website said it, Costco said it, and BestBuy's internal instructions say it has to be activated in store.
Where's the 'IF' here?
Edit:
Costco's ad regarding the activation fee:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955814
BestBuy's internal system capture talking about the activation fee, not selling it without it, and the recurrence every time you want to re-enable the 3G:

I don't think the BB website ever stated it (it did however sate DVD/CD not included). As for the other sites... they all referenced those leaked BB ads with the bad grammar.. did they not??
I haven't read the Costco ad though.

Originally they referenced the ad, but a lot more has been leaked since then. BestBuy's original Pre-Sale website said activation was required. They've since pulled the site, as well as pulled the cache's of the site. I'm sure they can still be found online somewhere. They were also only available for in-store purchase (likely due to the activation required can only be done in-store.)
The Costco ad that came out a few days ago and the internal bestbuy memo that was leaked a day or two ago are the most damning evidence of required activation.
Edit:
Yeah, google even removed the cache sites of bestbuy's ad.
I posted what it said regarding activation, keep in mind my speculation was before the leaked bestbuy memo and costco's ad:

This is what I'm reading
"Originally the playbook stated that IF a customer signs up for Verizon...."
Doesn't IF mean optional?
"This is not true, every time they re-activate the service they must pay an activation fee"
This seems like clarification that users get charged an activation fee each time they cancel and reactivate the device; again not saying its required

Lol, talk about reading between the lines.
Did you miss the line that says
"Computer associates need to be activating these devices in Best Buy stores using the Beast system."
Honestly, I would love zero activation, especially if the wifi model isn't going to be out anytime soon. However, I think you're betting on something that's really really slim.
I also think we have a better chance of the WiFi model launching at the same time, since it was announced officially, as well as a US price was announced at the same time as the 3G model price was announced. Then they pushed back the pre-order, and now are delaying release (supposedly) to the 27th. This all screams simultaneous launch of WiFi model to me. Oh, and it's already passed through the FCC.

Yup read that too...
That's just telling the BB employees to use that specific system to activate the devices. BB doesn't get credit if users activate them on their own. I can only speculate those details of course.
If it was required, it would say so in a very obvious manner.
I bet you a beer it's not going to be required

Costco gets incentives for activation. If they offer the $35 rebate and require activation (Costco required, not Verizon), then they may get the most benefit because customers aren't losing anything but the $20 data plan.
I still haven't seen anything from Verizon, MOTO or Best Buy that clearly says activation is required.
Costco.. well... it can't be anymore black and white there... hahah...
Ugh... this still pisses me off. I think I'm going to get a Xoom tablet, but this forced activation is the one requirement that is really making me reconsider.
After forced activation and the first month of service and Maryland sales tax, the thing will be far closer to $900 than $800.

Cancel the data plan as soon as you walk out the door. They can't charge you for a full month of data if you cancel, plus I don't think they can charge you the activation fee either.
I'm gonna buy mine. Activate it and when they hand it to me immediately call and cancel right there at the counter.

Costco also is giving a rebate for the $35. To get the rebate you would need to activate. If you don't activate you don't get the rebate OR Costco specifically required activation. Basically, Costco may be trying to market themselves with Verizon and having more people activate the device makes them look better in Verizon's eyes.
Neither MOTO, Best Buy or Verizon released anything stating activation is required. The only exception is that leaked Best Buy ad from 10 days ago that had the weird typos. Isn't that Costco ad a leaked ad too?
We wont know until either the official Best Buy Sunday flyer (tomorrow hopefully) states it specifically.

The Sprint Headache Begins...

So before this point I have NEVER had a problem with sprint.
Like a normal EVO fanboy I was dying just to pre order my EVO LTE. May 7th came around and i quickly went to sprint.com to pre order. *click, click, *click*
My HTC EVO 4G LTE was pre ordered! Wait, the total is $245.74
A few hours passed and I kept seeing how this site "wirefly" was selling the EVO LTE for 150 bucks with no sales tax and free shipping! I was kinda eh about it because i never heard of the site.
A few more hours passed and saw that the price on wirefly dropped to 119.99!! what a deal! if i would to cancel my order with sprint id saved over 100 bucks!
I quickly call sprint and have been calling sprint. EVERY agent i talk to they tell me i CAN NOT cancel my pre order, the only way i can cancel it is when its about to ship and i have to "refuse" the shipment.
I have called them over 10 times now with each time having a different agent every time, still no luck with this.
Has anyone had any luck with canceling the pre order from sprint??? If so, what was your trick?? I even pulled the "I have been a loyal customer for sprint for over 7 years now"
Sprint customer service reps don't even work for sprint. I have had just about lost my mind until a tech at a corporate store told me they are in a call center some where and have no idea about the phones, and can't do anything that their contract won't allow. Your best bet is live chat on the web site. Once the pre order is made they pay the manufacture ahead of time so you really can't cancel your order. If you refuse your order it will take a looooooonnnnnggggggg time to get your money back.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.....Wayne Gretzky....
i was thinking of trying the 100% satisfaction guarantee method.. its a long shot but they guarantee if i dont like i can return it
I had the same problem with a phone I ordered, then decided I didnt want from an actual Sprint store...I had to wait for it to come in and refuse it, it was a headache, but only because I had to wait a few days for everything to play out.
Not sure about wirefly, but usually when you order from sprint online, the activation fee is waived...(could save you some bux!)
$119.99? I pre-ordered yesterday for $149.99 from Wirefly. I think they have a pre-order price match guarantee though so I might have to call them.
Also, Sprint has to charge sales tax because they have brick and mortar stores in your state. They also add in the ridiculously high sprint activation fee that you will still have to pay for separately if you order from Wirefly. Still, you save $50 and some sales tax if you pick it up from Wirefly.
If I were you, I would order from Wirefly now if you're that antsy about it. Refusing the package is perfectly acceptable. Worst case, you miss the shipment, but you bring the un-opened box to UPS, USPS, FEDEX or whichever company shipped it, and they shouldn't have a problem letting you refuse it.

I hate to quote myself, but few people have had luck. So I tried again today.
Rep transferred me to escalations and they cancelled my pre-order hooray.
This after I had called another number yesterday, only to be told i had to wait for delivery. Guess that was a lazy lie on the reps part.
Only difference between yesterday today, that I could possibly think of was. When rep asked for reason for cancellation, I said "found lower price" yesterday. Today I said "I just changed my mind". I doubt this made a difference, but doesn't hurt to say it. Personally, I think it was the different number I called or the rep escalating me to escalations.
I already received the cancellation confirmation email.
Now the only downside is the rep said, it will take worst case 10 days (could be less) for the upgrade to be reset back to your account. I am gonna be trying to get this wirefly deal in the next few days. Hopefully, it doesn't go away.

I just placed my order on wirefly for 120. Lets wait and see what happens.
Couldn't you call the credit card company and cancel the payment. Isnt Pre orders usually charged around the time its shipped?

Yupp mine just got delayed to the 29th here in Sweden on Tele2 I already had my Z1 sold so my old dumbpjone will have to act as my replacement for awhile.
It's not just UK, It's everywhere. I am in China and trying to get the Taiwan version and they are out of stock.
Delayed as well
I actually work in a Phones4U store and we've had no advertising through for the Z2 at all so it's likely delayed in stores a fair bit longer and those that pre-ordered will receive their handset on the 22nd.
Gutting really as I've the day off tomorrow and was looking forward to playing with a shiny new Z2!
EVERYTHING is about the S5 in stores so I really hope Sony get their act together soon or it'll be a massive head start for Samsung.

It was a new contract, vodafone contract will be cancelled in the last month of it, three are doing a Sony speaker that is wifi, bluetooth & NFC enabled & costs about £119 & it also comes with the premium in ear noise cancelling earphones. Pretty decent package but to be honest I would rather have the magnetic charging dock than the speaker lol.

I requested my PAC and got a call a few hours later from retentions, I got
Unl/texts Unl/mins and 5 GB of data on 4G normal cost of plan if £52/m but I paid £90 upfront and got 50% off the plan. I couldn't believe it when they offered that even got 2 years spotify premium thrown in.
I ended up with -
42.99pm
5gb data
unlimited min/text
£50 google play voucher
£190 cashback
£0 phone cost - *Was £49.99 upfront
Wireless Speaker

Anyone who has pre-ordered through Phones4U if you contact their customer services and complain about the delay they will compensate you for the delay.
I got an additional £50 cashback ontop of the other cashback i am already getting.
Just a heads up for everyone, might be worth getting in touch with the people you pre ordered from.

My brother-inlaw works there so gave me 30% off the same tariff you have. Comes to about £36 a month with free phone, and told him I want a signal booster thrown in for free. Also the 2 years spotify.
I'm with Three at the moment so gave them a ring to see if they'd match it, best they could do was £41 month, free phone, free speaker, 300 mins, unlimited texts and data.
I still can't decide if 5gb of data will be enough? It is now, but once 4g arrives in my area, it'll be faster than my home broadband.
So hard trying to make a decision of phone/tariff which you've got to keep for 2 years!

Confirmation After Choosing New Batch(Battery Fix) Replacement
UPDATE 9/2/2016:
Samsung Issues Statement About Faulty Devices:
https://news.samsung.com/global/statement-on-galaxy-note7
Samsung is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident report from our valued customers very seriously. In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue.
To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note7.
For customers who already have Galaxy Note7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.
We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible.
T-Mobile Acknowledges It & Issues Refunds-Future Exchange:
https://newsroom.t-mobile.com/news-and-blogs/samsung-note7-update.htm
Earlier today, Samsung announced that it has stopped sales globally of the Galaxy Note7. T-Mobile has suspended sales of the device in all channels.
We are working closely with Samsung as they are finalizing details of their exchange program for the Note7, and we want to make sure T-Mobile customers are taken care of as Samsung works to resolve this.
Starting immediately, customers who are concerned about using the Note 7 can return the device to T-Mobile for a full, complete refund. They’ll get a full refund of anything paid for the device and any Note7 accessories. We’ll waive any restocking charges and shipping fees, and customers can keep the free Netflix subscription they received with purchase during pre-order.
Customers can visit their local T-Mobile store where they bought the device or call 611 or 1-800-937-8997 to do this, and they can then use their refund to choose a similar device or any device in T-Moble’s stores, including a new Note7 replacement which we expect to be available in the next two weeks.
We will update this statement as we have more information from Samsung regarding their exchange program for customers.

You will get it before in store release. Happens every time.
For reference, I preordered the s7 Edge from T-mobile on February 24th, and received it March 3rd, so 8 days. If we preorder the Note7 today on the 2nd, and same timeline applies, we'd get it delivered on the 10th. (obviously these timeframes are totally speculative on my part)
They have a habit of shipping phones 1-2 weeks prior to formal launch

Not on the initial preorder offer. Your options are:
-Gear Fit 2 [Estimated Worth ~$179.00]
-1 Year Netflix [Estimated Worth ~$110]
-256GB microsd Card [Estimated worth ~$249.99 (assuming it is the 256GB evoplus)]
From the text:
For those making the smart decision to pre-order the Galaxy Note7, you can choose between a 256GB microSD Memory Card to store all the pictures and video you take while skydiving, a Samsung Gear Fit2 wearable to respond to texts or track your step count while rocky mountain climbing, or a year of Netflix – over a $110 value
I think I'll choose the 256 card as it has the most $ value.
I also wish it was a free gearvr offer, but I'm not complaining
You normally get your phone a week after pre-order. Every Galaxy phone I decided to pre-order I've got before the store released it.
Just had to say it again, that 256GB Card is a really nice perk. I usually buy the max storage card for my phone anyways.
$850
-$250 256 Evo Plus Card
-$20 samsung pay offer
= $580
Considering I sold my s7 edge for $550; I'm almost getting paid to upgrade..
Whoops, I now have to buy a new GearVR (USB-C) so I'm out an extra $100

How do trade ins work towards a preorder? Do I send my phone back in the shipping box and they credit my account or EIP of new device? They probably won't be looking for the charger either I am assuming.

What do you guys think would be the better method? Online or in store for pre ordering. I just don't want their pre order website to crash and have my position pushed back lol

I figure the site can crash just as easy as their POS system if demand is high enough. The bonus I figured was that pre-order online (maybe just t-mobile) is happening tonight. I also think you have more flexibility in store as far as where it gets shipped and so forth.
I'm on the fence about jumping on it now and hoping it ships before the 19th. In my case I would be hoping for it to ship prior to my trip to Toronto on the 15th, so a full 6 days earlier on the thirteenth.
During the S7 launch did they wait to announce the buy one get one deal on the day of release or a couple days before? Does anyone remember?

Seems from what @charlieb620 said it is credited to your account, not to the eip when you do it online.

Pre-Ordered

Well,
I just pre-ordered a S20 Plus this morning, can't wait to try her out!!!!!
Ordered from Samsung, got $600 trade in for my S10 Plus, also got $150
credit for Samsung Store. Seems like a good deal.
Ken
Same! S20+ on my end. Excited for it to come in. My only regret is that I planned on getting the Galaxy Watch 46mm, but wanted to look at it in-store first before placing the order because I worried it would be too big. By the time I went to order the 46mm was sold out but hey, ended up with the 42mm and a $94 watch is a $94 watch!
Got the s20+ they gave me 700$ for may note 10 that I got for 450 on black Friday. Now the wait begins [emoji16]

Saw on reddit you can get 5% off if you've never been referred before, or sign up for a new account. Get a code from your family members(Get from here: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/account/order/#/my-referrals ),
They have to have made a purchase.
or anyone is welcome to use mine: ref-eus7np
Put it in the Promo code block at check out
Have made 5 attempts to pre order, but Samsung keeps cancelling my orders with very little detail and info as to why. I've matched my name and address to what's on the card, but they still cancel them for some reason. Might have to order from Best buy or elsewhere if they don't want my business.
Will we get the galaxy buds with the pre-ordered S20+?
They give me 150$ to use in samsung store so I got them

I have not seen anything about free galaxy buds with any of the S20 phones. I asked Verizon about it today in store and they had no clue about any freebies.
---------- Post added at 11:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:19 PM ----------
I pre-ordered an S20+ today from BestBuy. They had a better offer than Verizon. They gave me $300 trade-in for my 9+ upfront, plus I am supposed to get $150 credit off my bill. They didn't say anything about the $150 from Samsung to be used at Samsung.com. Verizon only offered $300 off not all at once but spread out over 24 months, beginning after 2-3 months. No stacking the $150 deal from Samsung on top of the $300 off. I did have to pay $63 in taxes on the $899. total purchase price. And I will have to pay a $40 setup fee to Verizon. That's a scam. Thanks Verizon.
Hi,
Amazon has the free buds deal.
Hi
My expected delivery from Samsung says March 6th.
Anybody have anything earlier than that?????
Ken
I have pre-ordered mine last week Friday...According to what I read the release date is 6th of March....I then have to wait for delivery that could take 5 - 1- working days....so sad to wait so long...at least I get the buds+ with the phone...must just redeem it from Samsung members app

The earliest date will see is March 6th that is release day, that being said Samsung has sometimes shipped early to get ahead of the rush but you won't know that till you get a tracking number they will never state an earlier date.
Preorder with pixel 4 trade (bought for 399 traded for 600!) Got 150$ bonus for accessories.

I had the same problem they cancelled two of my orders which made no sense. It turned out they turned me down for the credit which was only $22.73 a month for 24 months. The reason was I'm not paying for anything on credit at this point everything I have is paid off. So what I ended up doing was paying $541.00 using my credit card which was excepted. The reason I went with Samsung is I wanted a unlocked phone and they gave me $700.00 dollars trade in on my Note 10 and $175.00 dollars to spend in there store so I got the ear buds.
