Verizon price hike - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8 Guides, News, & Discussi

I just noticed on Verizon's website that they raised the price of the S8 from $720 to $756. Monthly payments went from $30 to $31.50. I also noticed when I first ordered my phone, their website noted that they waived the $35 restocking fee if you ordered online. Apparently that changed also. Seems like restocking fee is back on for online orders. WTF.

Wow, yeah they did raise the price of the device. But, I still see the waived restocking fee on that page. Better off to buy it for the same old $720 via Samsung.com now.

Verizon only charged me $720 for the device. They also charged me a $30 upgrade fee.

Wirefly, no activation fee, 8/23 only.

For the rest of the day you get no activation fee ($36) when you buy the Epic 4G.
They only charge $239 for the phone to begin with. Given that I live in CA my savings were:
Tax: $28
Activation Fee: $36
Discount: $10
Total: $74 saved
Also I am not sure if I will get it but entering code WIREFLYBLUE22 should give you a free Bluetooth headset. People are reporting a 83% success rate on the site I found the code listed.

the only good thing i see on wirefly is the MIR(or at least they say about it), with sprint you still gotta go thru that annoying process.
anybody know if you can use wirefly to UPGRADE your phone?
Im due for an upgrade with Sprint, but i want to get this price from wirefly.

Yea, from what i can tell its the same price if you are renewing your contract. 239.99.......... I didnt see anything about the activation fee though. Check it out http://www.wirefly.com/eCommerce/ph...lag=&zipcode=&refcode1=&refcode2=&eid=&agent=
what should I expect on the release date if I get my phone from sprint? 349.00 then 100.00 MIR? I'm trying to conclude if the wirefly way is a smarter way to go.

Yup, thats going to be your out the door price. You could always try Best Buy or radio Shack to get the instant rebate at the counter
Tax with sprint or any other store at that will charge tax off of the base price not the discounted price I believe, thats over 40 bucks in CA.
So look for no taxes, if you are worried about that.

I bit the bullet with Wirefly. My advice for anyone else considering this option is make sure you understand exactly what they are doing with your Sprint account. Somehow the call center ppl put the wrong plan after I had told them many many times how I wasn't looking to change the plans on my account at all.
Has anyone else had good experiences with this company? They seem like a lot of frustration
Wirefly is sketch. They have this bull**** 6 month rule when you cancel your new contract within 6 months with any of the carriers, then they bill you $300 for "equipment recovery fee". So, for Verizon, I got hit with $375 from Verizon for ETF and $300 from Wirefly for a ****ing Droid 1 that I bought for $189. Do the math. They ****ing tried to rape me. AND, on top of that, they charged $300 to the same debit card I used to do the original transaction about EIGHT MONTHS after I originally did business with Wirefly. They did that illegally without my permission. They had paper billed me for it and I was telling myself "no way they're getting $300 when the phone was only worth $449".. then a $300 charge from "Simplexity" shows up on my bank statement.
Hate Wirefly. And, their "discounts" aren't even ****ing discounts. $10 off a phone? Give me a break.
I got the phone from Wirefly. I knew going into it the 6 month rule and I do not plan on making any changes or cancelling in that time. Also they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, so I can return in 30 days without issue.
I know they have a bad rep, but here is why I got it from them anyway.
No tax in California
Amazon only does new contracts
A free bluetooth headset(see OP)
Ships on the 31st
No rebate to deal with, $239.99 was exactly what they charged.
No activation fee.

I'm not sure how long it will take, they had a overnight, 2 day, and free shipping options. I went with free. I did notice Amazon says "Ships in 7-8 days" so they are not even shipping on the 31st.
Good luck everyone who went this route. I chickened out and decided to not go with wirefly. I'm glad I didn't, they are sketch and I don't like dealing with online chats and outsourced call centers for "customer support"
Pretty nice feature.

Samsung Epic 4G $199.99 on Amazon.com

EDIT: The phone seems to be back in stock online. Still says ships in 8-9 days.
Amazon.com just got the EPIC 4G on their site for preorders, it's $199.99 with new contract, or $499.99 without any service. Best deals I've seen anywhere. If these don't sell out, I bet it'll hit $150 by september 1st. This is just great if you are a new customer on Sprint.

Kinda blows if you're an existing one though...
Does sprint allow you to cancel and then sign up as a new contract? Because of the pro-rating of their cancellation fees, it would be significantly cheaper to get the discounted Amazon phone (even better if it follows the other Galaxy S phone pricing) than it would be to buy the unsubsidized Epic.

You mean cancel your current sprint plan, then take the amazon.com epic deal with a brand new contract? I think you can do that. However like you said, there is the prorated early termination fee, and you also need to consider that you would of course lose your current phone number. You could of course also switch to a prepaid account with some other carrier for a week or so though, and just port your number over a lot, but that could be a bit risky/flawed.
If you wanted to buy a cheap amazon epic 4g then cancel right after though, you'd pay a ton, amazon.com would hit you with early cancel charges, as would sprint.
If you cancel your contract, you have to wait 90 days before you can qualify for new customer pricing on devices.

Yes, I meant the first part. Cancel my sprint contract (and risk losing the #), then rejoin sprint on the cheaper (possibly much cheaper) amazon phone deal. Switching phone numbers isnt always a bad thing.
$199 wow! Way to stick it to Wirefly and their cheapo $10 off price.
I'm currently on the $30 SERO plan, and converting to either a 5-line EPRP, or a 5-line corporate discount plan. I guess there's no way in hell I can do either one thru Amazon.

Aha, thanks for the definitive answer. Could a family member qualify immediately? We don't share a last name.
Oh man Amazon is annoying, is there any way to see the final review order page without submitting the credit check info? I'd assume they don't actually perform the credit check until you submit the order, but I'd rather not take that risk, especially just to see a check-out price! I just want to see if they charge taxes and activation.

It has to go under someone else's social security number. That's all.
It says "currently unavailable" now...
this should be the sprint price for it, no mail in rebate.
I'm kinda regretting reserving through Radioshack now!
$250 + taxes comes out to around $270. I'm assuming Amazon will provide Prime shipping and next day shipping being around $20 bucks.
Can't refund the $50 deposit i put for the pre-order through Radioshack either. :|
How much is Sprint's early contract termination fee?
im trying to buy it on amazon. apparently there's no option to add a new line to an existing account. if there is can some1 point me out to it. all im seeing are the options to buy it for 500 as an existing customer or 199 as a new customer

radioshack has 10 dollar off coupons, so its 240 + tax. I would do amazon, but with 2 phones, it will be a hassle, so I'm doing radioshack for ease of return if there are any problems.

From what I was told at the Sprint store, its a total of $240 early termination, or $10 a month, for each of the 24 months of the 2 year contract.
The longer you have the contract, the lower the termination fee is.
Does Amazon charge an activation fee of $36 per line? Also has anyone purchased from them before? Just wondering if they would actually ship the phone on 8/31 and if the return policy is any good? Thanks in advance.

How to get the galaxy tab cheaper? I might have a plan to get it for $350!

since the galaxy tab wifi only isnt out yet
this is probably the best way to get a tablet for $350
US cellular has the tablet for $300 with a 2 year $55 per month contract
this week's price is $200 after getting a $100 rebate
then what you do is cancel the data contract and pay $150 termination fee
so in the end you pay $350 for the tablet off contract!
will this work?
anybody got a better plan?
I just talked with a US Cellular rep in Hendersonville, NC. She confirmed that you could pretty much do what you're talking about. You would have to do at least one month on the $55/month plan before doing an early termination of the contract. Essentially, that gets you the tab for $400.00.
Edit....just discovered that there is a $30 or $50 activation fee if you're not a current US Cellular customer. Hmmmm.....the deal is getting worse by the moment...
Ken
cant you just do this to bypass activations?
http://thetechjournal.com/how-to/bypass-activation-on-samsung-galaxy-tabhow-to.xhtml
nope hes talking about activating the SERVICE on the device. Not actually activating the device.. 0_o....
in order to get it for the low contract price, your signing up for the service and to Activate/process NEW service you have to pay $$..
If your slick enough you can try to get it waived.
Tmobile the same. If uou are not current customer, there is activation fe plus monthly is $5 more expensive.

[Q] Can anyone confirm what Verizon charges monthly in taxes and fees for the XOOM?

I hate to bother people with this but I can't seem to find this information anywhere online and I don't know anyone with a XOOM personally.
The reps at the verizon store are telling me that the XOOM could cost me an extra 15 a month in taxes fees and surcharges on just a 20 dollar plan in Georgia. Is there any truth at all to this or are these guys nuts?
What are you guys paying extra every month?
I don't know about "extra". I only have one device on Verizon right now -- the XOOM. I started with a MiFi about 18 months ago and replaced it with the XOOM last week. To activate it I called Verizon. they switched me to the tablet plan and said it's the same price. Now, I haven't gotten a bill yet but I'm on a 3GB plan and it's been costing me $35/month. With a 22% discount from my employer, the total is $27.38. That's what I expect the price to be when I get my bill. VZW online shows that price, too.
HTH
EDIT: Maybe I completely misread your post. Nonetheless, I hope it's useful ... to you or someone
Nope.
Negative. You will be looking at the standard ~12.9% (this changes slightly almost daily it seems) on your monthly bill. I am employed by VZW's biggest authorized premium indirect agent. Let me know if you have any further questions regarding pricing or the tablet. Take care.
I don't know the monthly taxes fees and surcharges, but I noticed that Verizon's charging me for any text messages sent to my Xoom's number.
And the Xoom can't even send or receive SMS messages! That's pretty nervy.
I'm in GA as well, MidGA at that and my taxes and fees jump my bill up $7 dollars (35 dollar plan, 42 dollar bill)
Yea it was less than $3 for 1 month plus a prorated week on the $20 plan.

Who else pre orderd from sprint?

Did anyone pre order from sprint? I did mine this morning and i was wondering how much it cost everyone. I was half asleep when i did mine and i just kept clicking next on every page lol. It came out to i think 235 dollars. So im guessing the extra 30ish bucks was an activation fee or something?
I ordered from Sprint as well. Device cost me $199.00, no tax as I'm in DE. But I did an early up grade that cost me $95, then they gave ma a trade credit for my OG of $100, So now I'm at $195. Now take off for the Sprint BB's I traded as well and I'm at $100 for the New EVO. Have not seen it cheaper yet. Think I did alright on this one.
mine came out to be $ 238.74
mine came out to be 217 after taxes, I had an AP exam right when the pre order went up so I couldn't be first
activation/upgrade fee isn't calculated into the purchasing cost, its added to your next bill after you activate it (it comes unactivated) as does the 14 day grace period if anyone was wondering
Mine was 200 and some change.

I used telesales... $217.77
She tried to charge me shipping of $18 (I think it was)
I told her that I didn't want to pay that because when I do the checkout process online shipping is waived.
She waived it.
My sero plan she said incurres no activation fee.
She said the $17.77 was tax.
Interesting...I called this morning and the telesales person was awful. Ended up not ordering.
I called this afternoon and telesales said they couldn't preorder (I'm on SERO) and to do it online.
Couldn't preorder online this morning, could this afternoon, but it indicated I had a $36 activation. Guess I'll try to waive that when I activate.
Mine was $421 I got 2 of them
Haha I've missed the og evo forum
