Headphone jack not working on Nougat - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

I recently bought an X compact after my beloved Z3C's screen broke and I had no luck finding a decent replacement. So far, I'm extremely impressed with the phone. I immediately upgraded to the UK Custom rom to enable the fingerprint sensor. I'm not sure if it happened before or after the update, but my headphone port isn't working correctly. The phone isn't detecting headphones being inserted at all, but if I use the SoundAbout app it works perfectly. I've tried searching the Sony threads but their answer is "We cannot duplicate this problem," which is crap considering the thread is full of 33 pages of complaints. Has anyone else come across this problem? It's got me pretty bummed out considering it's a brand new phone.

if it has warranty I suggest you go back to stock rom and replace the phone fast

Go through the dispute resolution process, if you're within the time to do so. If you're verified by PayPal then there is buyer protection. This isn't a warranty issue, it's a faulty equipment issue and you need to take it up with the seller/ebay/PayPal.

I'm a dingus. I bought a new non-handsfree cableset for my earbuds and it fixed everything. Works great and sounds fantastic. I'm quite impressed with the DAC on this little thing.

HTC are Utter Rubbish! edited - because I may have upset some users..

Sorry to say that I recently went from a wizard (which I've had for 18 months) to a hermes...disappointed doesn't even begin to describe my experience.
I had the 'brick' as I've come to call it, 3 days and already it's deceased.
Started getting the 'phantom taps' and now no TS at all.
Rebooted a dozen times and it just wont get past the screen alignment...in fact if you sit and watch it does it itself!
I even know what the issue is as it's been reported in the past but you'd think HTC would've sorted it by now.
HTC are palming off shonky goods as cutting edge.....really disapointed.
Did you flash a custom ROM onto it? Is it a hardware problem? In any case, it's covered by a warranty, you probably just got a defective unit. IMO, the upgrade from my wizard to hermes was a HUGE difference in performance and I'd never go back.
hardware related
Its hardware related....as the device gets warm (probably room temperature!) the screen expands and the TS membrane is pinched. All kinds of fun ensues!
There's no warranty on it..so it wont be going back.
Chalk another one up to experience.
if you have no warranty then you prob didn't pay much and you prob didn't get a new unit, and you prob didn't even get from a reputable place....so buyer beware...if the deal was to good to be true it prob was and did you ever think to ask yourself why the unit was for sale in the first place.
Assume a lot dontcha
It's brand new...from a friend who upgraded almost immediately to a HTC Touch.
You are correct though - didn't cost me a bean - shame my wizard's already gone....
oh..and while you're at it...get off yer high horse!
Assuming that I'm a dumb hick who'll buy anything that's cheap is a bit insulting..

If it's brand new from a friend, why not have him simply return the unit as defective??? Besides, just because you aren't the original buyer doesn't mean there is no warranty...
I have both a Wizard and a Hermes. Apart from the Wizard feeling like it is more rugged when it's in your hand, the Hermes is superior in every other way. And when you load WM6 onto the Hermes, it just blows the Wizard away completely.
If you know enough about this device to know that the innards are "expanding" and that something is being pinched by this, it sounds like you've taken it apart.
You're clearly not telling us the whole story in any case. If you ever want real advice for fixing your Hermes instead of just venting and not telling us what you've done to it to cause these problems, a lot of people here will be happy to help you.
BTW, I've found that doing a soft reset after charging it does a lot for any heat problems if this is truly the only problem you're having.
...several screen alignment "fixes" available on this website...
Lay off the guy
Look folks, the 'phantom tap' is a known and documented hardware issue with Hermes and has nothing to do with where/how/when/why the unit was acquired, nor for how much. Wise up (and shut up if you don't know what you're talking about).
To the OP: Don't give up so easily. In my experience HTC tracks the warranty by serial number. Call them and insist on an RMA. I was successful in getting one fixed free of charge. And guess what... I bought it on ebaY, and the warranty seal had been broken!
Btw, it's not the touch screen. Been there, replaced it, didn't fix it.
Thanks vp3G

Thanks for that man!
As it turns out the device was still under warranty and it's been returned...just waiting for it to come back!
Funnily enough when I had it the first time, the rom I put on it was your 'Black Satin'! Nice ROM, particularly the file explorer replacement!
Personally I didn't see much in the way of difference between the hermes and the wizard....but I did have it only for three days.
When I get it back I and test it out a bit more, I will gladly eat my words if it out performs the old wizard.
Anyway, I wasn't slating the hermes in itself..many of my friends have one p )..it was HTC themselves for still selling devices to consumers with a known fault.
Andy.

One dud BMW doesn't make BMW's bad cars. You got a dud, plain and simple. Return it for one that works.
HTC has impressed me, especially lately as they are trying to "redesign" the interface for windows mobile to make it actually usable.
BMWs are incredibly bad cars for the price they are sold for.

It's a valid gripe, IMO. The problem you experienced is certainly 'hush-hush' with them.

Bricked N1 and HTC fixed it. FREE!

So last Friday I was attempting to install Galaxy S status bar on my N1, but in the process of trying to do too much I Bricked my phone. Mind you, Im not a complete noob to the process. I've rooted mytouch, G1, and even tinkered with my Shadow, so I'm pretty familiar with the processes, but this time I finally F'd up and I knew it. Phone just flashed orange and green light top right corner. Did my research and saw other posts w/similar problems but all battery related, but I still tried their solutions to no avail. The only thing to do other than to use it as paper weight was to try my warranty, which all of us know is void after unlocking. So I Called HTC warranty hotline and explained my problem without telling them of the custom rom I installed and they gave me two options; replace w/refurb or fix mine, mine is engraved so replacement out of question. So they emailed me a overnight shipping label, I sent it to them on Monday, they received it on Tuesday, Fixed it on Thursday, and I got it back on Friday, good as new. So basically to all who dare to root and mod your phones and Brick it in the process. Try your warranty. Worse they can say is no. In my case they fixed it.
They fixed mine as well and even re-locked the bootloader. Mind you, I ended up rooting it again as soon as I got it back. HTC rocks!

Now that's service I'm impressed. Frankly I'm impressed with Android and the community. Google knows exactly what people are doing and they go just a step shy of condoning it and now to hear the HTC does this sort of thing knowing fully well that there's a 99% chance it's bricked cause someone was nerding out it
Having come over from a 3GS just about a month ago I am really impressed with Android. The only thing now is a solid hardware platform. I love my Nexus One but there are things HTC could have done better, mainly screen related, and Motorola is etched in my brain as making the most annoying phones in history. But aside from that, I think it's Android for life for me
Are you sure your bricking related to flashing a themed bar?
I thought that bricking your phone was only possible through some low-level processes such as flashing a radio.
Either way, glad they fixed your problems.
Yea. Pretty sure I bricked it. Trying to flash the Galaxy status bar didn't brick it, but the series of mis-steps that followed did. But I got it back, re-unlocked it and happy as can be. Thanx HTC.
Hi, did HTC ask you for an reeipt or proof of warranty? I am asking cause i purchased my nexus from ebay(no receipt or warranty whatsoever) and i've read in other threads that HTC did not ask for these papers considering that the phone is less than 1 yr old.
thanks.
makes me wonder why anyone would want to root without unlocking the bootloader

Nope. I bought mine off ebay as well and I even said that on the phone but the lady from HTC said that was fine. They fixed my phone no problem
I am going to attempt a replacement on mine. Except I have the unfortunate issue of the void sticker missing from the screw on the back. I'm going to send it in anyway, since I have a dust under the screen issue. Perhaps they will be nice and replace it anyway. If not, well I guess it will cost me $28 to get it back. Or maybe not that much to have them fix it..

[Q] Tired of troubleshooting my G1, do you want it? (FREE, UK only)

~~~ EDIT ~~~
I picked someone who wants to develop on it and PM'd them. Thanks for the interest but it's gone, I'll post again if they fail to reply, otherwise 'that's all, folks...'
So, I never got this thing working well from CyanogenMod 5 onward. I've tried everything I could find, including reverting to stock, and now I have a 'UUID Mismatch error'. The phone isn't bricked, I can flash recoveries and ROMs all day long, they just aren't stable at all. It may have a hardware problem, or maybe I am missing something. I'm done fighting with it, maybe one of you will have better luck. I've lost root just now reverting it to stock, but you can just re-root it or use it for parts.
It's a US T-Mobile G1, white, in great condition. I've removed the Micro SD card, and my SIM, obviously.
I have a car charger, data cable, headphone adapter w/ headphones, and the original fabric case that came with it, plus the original battery & battery cover. I also have a clear plastic hard shell with a kickstand.
I'm in the UK now, so I can post it to anyone in the UK, and I'll just trust you to reimburse me for shipping once you get it. The phone isn't worth much anymore and postage isn't much, so no big deal.
PM me or reply here if you want it, and I'll pick someone at random.
thanks
External speaker gone dead after 2 days
Hi there,
After 2 days external speaker has gone dead!
Tried wiping, factory reset, hard reset, and all over again. Nothing-zilch-zero
Found on XDA and elsewhere that Samsung has quite a track record on this particular problem, with GS, GSII and yet with my GN...
Any other reports on this?
Will return mine now.
Regards,
Keep us posted with updates please....
Sorry to hear about your external speaker problem and having to return your note, what a bummer. I didn't realise Samsung had quite a track record on faulty external speakers. Can you post some links in case I get the same problem? Thanks.
Just Google on Samsung External Speaker Dead.
Regards,
Just happened to me. I was listening to a podcast and suddenly no sound. I thought it was Google Listen which seems to occasionally pause for no reason on my N1, but it was still playing. Restarted and tried messing with volume and mutes. BT still works but speaker won't come back. I was using it at full volume if that has anything to do with it.
And I have had it for 8 days.
if you google for an issue on any manufacturer, you're likely to get hits on it specially when the device is popular
Lord, why's so many things wrong with Samsung phone? I just purchased a Note without reading the forums before buying. Hope mine doesnt cause me any headache or this will be my last Samsung phone.
I really don't think this is a widespread issue. Google only reveals this case (now two) and I found a few captivate issues. So it seems pretty isolated.
I found if I put the volume all the way up and hold my ear to the external speaker, that I can just hear it. Will have a chance to back up in a bit and try resetting everything and see if anything helps. Otherwise not looking forward to shipping this back overseas to Samsung for service since I had it a few more days than I thought and Handtec has 10 day policy.
UPDATE: Samsung UK said to contact Handtec who was easy to work with and provided RMA. Part that stinks is that it will be about two weeks before I get a replacement, because shipping overseas in any expedited means was stupidly expensive.
Scaots, did you get any other warranty or are you using Samsungs warranty? Did you have any hoops to jump through for them to honor the warranty even though you're in the US?
did u try and clean out the headphone jack? (maybe with compressed air/ electronic cleaner)
Handtec was no hassle. They had me fill out a form and issued an RMA. Shipping back to UK is a hassle. Expediting would be crazy expensive so going to be another week before I get one back. Still have to find out if I get reimbursed for that.
It's a problem with the device speaker. Headphones work fine and so does the earpiece. If something was activating the headphone jack audio then earpiece audio would also be trying to playback through the jack rather than the earpiece.
Yeah mine's currently RMA'd to fix that same problem. I don't think it's a wide spread issue but I'd setup an RMA to get it fixed quick.
I am in contact with ZTE Canada. They ask for my IMEI so I guess I will have to RMA it also.
Sucks I like the phone but one of the thing that scared me going with ZTE was reliability. :-\
Yeah like I said, I don't think it's widespread. I'm the one that caused the problem.. But I think it's very cool that they RMA'd it for free and are taking care of it. Now I don't have the device yet so we'll see what happens when it's all said and done, but at this time? I'm completely happy with the warranty on the phone that just CAME with it for free. I dig that.
That does not sound normal. I'd contact ZTE support and see if that's covered by their warranty.
Hello.
Ive got the same problem since this morning. My phone never dropped or something like that. I cannot plug some headphones. They were easily pushed out every time.
What happened to your phones ? I contacted zte germany. Lets see what they say.
