REQUEST: DJI GO 4 app/android OS mod... - Android Drones General & Development

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dji.go.v4
I'm an android fanboy and always have been however, it's bothering me that the DJI android app doesn't seem very compatible with Android / Samsung devices...
..After a bit of googling it seems like it may be a resourcing issue or something like that where the app can't get CPU or RAM to process the live video stream from the drone, which breaks up and pixelates... with occasionally app crashes. (I've personally only ever had a single crash but i think that was to do with my SD card).
I once read it was something to do with android having so many variants/variables where Apple iOS is much more strict...yada yada.
I am running debloated superman ROM v2.4.1, however across the board there seems to be an issue...
Just wondering if some Android Guru out there could have a look at this in the hope of coming up with a solution... maybe a mod or an app, something that could be used to prioritise the DJI app and clear memory, or otherwise if it's another issue!
Apparently, since Nougat update the issue has got worse. I would tend to agree with this..Personally I use a S7E and also new Tab S3...Both have the pixelation and signal breaking up issue.
DJI have also apparently contacted Samsung about a 'known issue's with Nougat however not seen anything.
I don't want to buy an iPad and just have been dealing with poor performance thus far, just thought I'd put it out there to see if someone fancys a challenge ?? ?
Much obliged. Cheers for reading!

Do you also get the broken picture and green - and sometimes pink - bands?

It's was mostly laggy tbh.

Seems more laggy on my Tab S3. Live feed / cache stutters a bit.

Have you tried litchi? Currently wating to receive a phantom 3 standard.

Nope - but read that [depending on circumstances] flying with Litchi can affect warranty. So have been a bit hesitant.
Also, it's another £20 or so on play store?
Think I might have to bite the bullet though. Not sure the UI is as good as GO 4? Anyone?
So frustrating when you spend all that on a piece of kit and they can't pull their software / Devs together to accommodate some of the most popular android devices.
Anyone have any idea what can do to resolve this 'incompatibility' issue?

Is it worth flashing?

So guys I was asking myself "is it worth flashing?". Why you ask? Well because if I took a look in the development section and it doesn't look like any of the current roms out are stable and they all seem to have many know issues. So I would like to know what you have flashed and how you like the experience compares to stock rom?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I have flashed a bunch of roms on this tab. Most of them are stable now. ALL of them running ics are better than the honeycomb touchwiz that comes pre installed. The only caveat I say to you, is that the camera still isn't working on the roms I've been using as my dailies. (Aokp and Nightlies) If that's a deal killer for you, then stay away from the ics builds for now. But I can tell you as someone who has a 2 year + old Droid Incredible running ics AND this tab running ics, I can never go back. Its just THAT good. Especially on this tab where it Truly shows off the big improvements on the OS.

I'm running a stock mod but the difference is pretty huge. No more constant reboots or hangs. Much faster too. Not using any special kernels either. The ROM I'm using has working GPS and camera. Haven't touched any roms with broken cam/GPS.

Can I ask which ROM you're using? (I thought there wasn't an ICS ROM with working camera...?)
He never said nor implied that he was using an ICS rom...
Ah OK. (Just realised you're right)
I'm using overcome 2.3.1. It's not ics. It's pretty nice. Went from multiple daily reboots to 3 or 4days of uptime. I use it a lot for reading, browsing, netflix, remote mgmt of servers and it holds up well. I bought 3 Samsung docks and have it hooked up to my home theater for music via hdmi, on my nightstand (ditched the tv in the bedroom) and another in my office. I wouldn't have been able to keep it without a rom. Give it a shot. Take your time and read up, it's pretty simple. I'm kinda pissed they made such a great tablet and put such a horrible buggy os on it.
I saw all the comments here suggesting to throw a rom on it to improve performance but I didn't put much stock in it. It's not an exaggeration. You have to ditch the tw launcher too. I'm using Go's tablet edition. I guarantee you will not go back to stock. I chose overcome because it's really stable. No point trying to escape bugs and using a buggy rom.
Getting off my soapbox now. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yes that was one of my major concerns of ics. I'm running dark sides evolution 2 beta 3 on my sgs2. But when I came here to read about the 10.1 ics versions I was kind of sad. Because like it was said the 10.1 is awesome but cannot be used on stock w/o mods. I really just want to get on a stable release that doesn't have this issue where you could only charge your tab with the wall charger. I need a different kernal.

It's use go launcher too, but what I'm curious about is what you're using for server management? And app or just the browser? I have both cpanel and directadmin panels on my servers and just been using the browsers.

With Task v14, I feel that the Galaxy tab is vastly improved from the stock bloatware.
I don't really care about ICS on the Galaxy. Task 14 is so good, I don't see ICS as improving much. I have ICS running on HP Touchpad and Kindle Fire, right now.
it's nice, but IMHO not really worth all of the hype over an optimized GB ROM. YMMV.
Task v 14 is really great, highly recommend it over any ics roms.

Yeah I'm not even using any special kernel and have no probs charging.
I'm actually happy with my stock rooted GS2. The only problems I've had are few and far between and solved with a reboot.
I looked at all the major roms on the dev page and Overcome seemed to be the safest stable rom.

I use pocketcloud and terminal apps to access vnc, rdc and ssh sessions. I'm not using browsers at all except for some app/service config panels that require it and even those I mainly use remotely via vlc or rdc.

I think your info may be outdated there are a few very and very fast roms out there. I use galaxy task rom and it is very smooth really like night and day over stock.
Perhaps what might come off as unstable are the continuing work by the devs to keep improving the rom

my $.02: My use-case for my tablet is almost entirely at home. I have the Wi-Fi only model, so I don't do a lot of "mobile" stuff with it. I have a Galaxy Nexus phone which I generally carry everywhere.
What I thought: As a techie, I want everything to be fully working just because, and as a result I cannot accept a tablet without a working camera!
Real Life: I use my tablet for IM, web browsing, reading comics, and playing games, generally around the house or while commuting. That's actually it. Number of times I did a video chat on my tablet: 1. Number of times I actually wanted to video chat on my tablet: maybe 2. Because I work with a Galaxy Nexus all the time, having the same OS & ROM on both devices is honestly nicer / easier / more lazy-friendly. Its honestly pretty slick to have Chrome syncing across my computers, my phone, and my tablet.
I recently tried to go back to Honeycomb since I once again thought "gee maybe I should use the camera on my tablet". Honeycomb just feels like ICS with training wheels on it I really don't like it as much. This probably as much a placebo effect as anything. Also, the camera isn't as good as my Galaxy Nexus or my actual camera, and I feel like a douche holding my tablet up to take a picture. Would being able to Skype on my tablet be cool? Yes. Would I use it that often? No.
I'm going back to AOKP damnit. I can deal with a non-working camera for a while.
And GPS??? My device doesn't have mobile data, so it really doesn't matter to me that much, even though I thought it would.
Bottom Line: You can back all your stuff up, and you're not out anything, so why not try it?

i feel exactly the same, i just migrated to AOKP last night, and so far the benefits of it being a lot "zippier" is good. I do a lot of typing and multitasking viewing pdf and docs etc is a better experience on ICS than HC.....

Rubbish phone

I've had this phone for just over 2 weeks and it's utter garbage. Everything runs so slow, there is always a delay when opening messages and other apps. I've had 2 random reboots. I'm coming from a HTC one that is what 2 years old and that baby was sweet as a nut butter smooth. Are there any new updates coming out to make this phone run faster
So get rid of it. Everyone else seem to be pretty positive, including me.

Try the J firmware.
If you can you should return it, if you can't, root and reduce the DPI 560 seems sweet. Also use a different launcher and keyboard. That will remove most of the lag, but not all.
The phone is not rubbish, LGs software and "configuration" on the other hand is a bit over aggressive:
- thermal throttling kicks in too early in my opinion (play a game for a few minutes and frames start dropping like crazy due to the processor being capped). the phone isn't that hot either - considering my N5 reaches temperatures where it feels a lot warmer than this and seems to not cap the speed that aggressively;
- there is a lot of useless software from LG running (updates, smart stay, quiet hours, bla bla bla) which eats up memory, processor usage, etc.
- be careful if you have an sd card in it (I had an old card in it and everything was twice as sluggish);
- avoid power management / battery monitoring tools (using GSAM battery monitor in my experience seemed to keep the phone awake more then it should resulting in earlier thermal throttling).
Ways to improve performance:
- keep the software that you need active (give up unnecessary widgets, services, syncs). keep only to the ones you need;
- try the phone without a sd card;
- try to keep it as cool as possible so it runs cool and doesn't throttle performance;
- (advanced) root ... and get rid of useless junk ...
- (advanced / risky) disable throttling and other safety features ...
I've changed keyboard
I'm loving it. Phone of the year. The m8's got a crappy camera and too much bezel, the s5... Well, it's the s5. Sony, yeah Sony, great contestant. Doesn't have the style, the flare tho. No nanny Fine finesse.
Different strokes for different folks, eh.
Sent from my grenade launcher using heat guidance.
The phone is indeed rubbish:
- crappy laggy LG software. No match to Google's Android.
- bleak washed out colors of LG IPS screen
- over sharpening
- crappy over sensitive Knock wake up

FASTER 6P at Best Buy? Can it really be?

In total, my family of four has four 6Ps.
Yesterday browsing through best buy, I got the golden Nexus 6P in my hands to play with, and gosh, it felt twice as fast and snappier. I proceed to put my phone down and test it app by app at the same time, like the speed test videos on youtube, and I am jealous... it was SOOOOO much faster. I wish I had another phone to record it. Drawer opening was 3 times as fast. Opening the store, google search, brownser, it was close to twice as fast.
Then I proceeded to test the other 6Ps at home... and they were just like mine.
Very intrigued, I thought... well... my phone is full... so let me hard reset it...
Still, not even close to what I experienced at the store. Could it be that these phones at best buy are overcloked or not underclocked? It was a BIG difference!
All my phones were purchased from google... have anyone experienced this?
Thanks!

I'm actually a lead manager for Best Buy Mobile and I can tell you that the 6Ps we have out on display are the exact same 6Ps that you would get from the Google Store. However, they do have an application loaded on them that keeps the device awake. This application also keeps the CPU running at close to max speed which is why it feels so much faster than a 6P running stock.

While it does make the phone run a lot faster it is essentially the same as going into a kernel management app and setting your minimum CPU frequency a lot higher than normal. If these phones weren't plugged in they would most definitely be dead within an hour. [emoji1]

For flashing demo content and apks for demo, make a batch script then just take a laptop round and adb install onto it. Saves time.
Sony used to have one built in, can't for the life of me remember what it is, on the dialer, its a number then the same number backwards.
I think the Sammy ones are 5433, its been a while though, could have changed.

ROFL... Ahhh best post I read on a while. Good laugh, thanks!
I hate going to look at phones, and EVERY single one has serious screen burn in! Makes the device look like crap, and gives it a cheap feeling. Shouldn't have them with their screens always on. It might look flashy from a sales perspective, but to a customer it's actually a turnoff.

Thinking of buying this phone but...

I have checked this phone in two different stores in retail mode. Both phones presented a weird slowness when coming back from an app to the home screen. Not always but sometimes. It took 2-3 seconds to load the home screen and icons. It was very weird from an otherwise snappy phone. Have any of you experienced this?

I second this. Hardware is top notch including the display. All the bells and whistles included.
Can you buy from somewhere you can return if not happy.
Slow has never been associated with the Mate 9. Software design is their main issue nowadays. They change/remove things without any real reason. Getting better with every version.
Lag, Stutter, freezing. Definitely NOT an issue with this phone. Best phone out. Buy it.

It took 2-3 seconds to load the home screen and icons. It was very weird from an otherwise snappy phone. Have any of you experienced this?

I would go for the one plus 3t software updates are gonna be a pain on this mate 9 already regret the purchase. Software always over hardware.
possible demo mode?
i agree software is going to be a pain, but this phone is amazing out of the box.
a little tweaking and youd never have to worry about updates...just the dev of this phone is going to be really slow until huawei release binaries...

Yeah but who likes sticking to an old version of android? Sorry new updates = security patches and overall a better experience with new features. I could not see myself recommending this phone to anyone on xda, maybe other people who do not care about updates and development.

I've came from Nexus 6p, OP3T knowing there wouldn't be much development as those phones had. But I would say this phones software isn't that bad, or as heavy as Samesung or LG. Ive rooted and returned back to stock which I am using now on the US version. It's an amazing phone as is and the camera blows out the OP3T and screen size is a must. I hate little phones (personal preference I know) so yeah the Nexus and OP do have the development communities but for the price and how well the phone is made and the smoothness of which the processor handles the work load it is definitely a great phone.

It was probably running an early build. My Mate 9 has had 3 updates since I got it. No lag whatsoever.
Same here, no lag in any situation. Buttery smooth. Though I got rid of the stock launcher as soon as possible.
I get it sometimes. Coming out of an app and the screen will be blank for a couple of seconds (just the wallpaper) then the apps appear
Lag is normal on my 156 fw. No double tap to wake up. And other things. But one is fine battery.
No issues here. Smoothest phone I have ever had.

Never had a glitch, 4th month in.

Delay when opening apps

So I've had this issue with both my S7 and S8 where whenever I click to open certain apps from my home screen, there's a noticeable delay between when I touch the icon to when the app actually opens.
This most notably happens on the Facebook, any and all internet browsers, the Play Store, and the Google app.
The thing that confuses me is that no one else seems to report this issue, nor have I experienced it on other brand phones.
Has any one else experienced this or have any ideas for a solution?

Glad to hear it's not just me. When I've mentioned if before, everyone just tells me I have a defective phone, which I don't.
At times it feels like Samsung phones are big diesel engine trucks - powerful, sure, but it takes them a while to really get moving.

At the moment I have HTC U11(my daily driver) and as soon as I tap the shortcut, the app opens. When I compare it to my S8, I see the difference. I believe it could be Samsung's TouchWiz

Apparently it goes deeper than that because even when I use Nova launcher, the problem is there.
I also wonder if this is a problem that's only on the Snapdragon version, as I never remember my Exynos-powered Note 5 having any issue.

Possible, but U11 is also on the same Snapdragon 835, but I do believe in my case at least, U11 has UFS 2.1, but my S8 has UFS 2.0. I do see the difference when apps get installed or updated. U11 is doing it faster.

I'm not really knowledgeable enough to make these kinds of guesses, but maybe it's like a kernel issue? Because obviously different companies have different results with the same processor, so maybe Samsung just has poor optimization?
Either way, it just feels like a really unnecessary flaw for the phone.

I would have said Yes for some big apps like heavy title games but for the ones you've mentioned(Facebook, Google, Store and etc), those are actually the fastest to open for me similar to system apps' speed.
PS. I'm the type of person to clear all recent apps and turn off the phone like 5 times a day because I'm a little OCD about an apps that might drain the battery. Lol

I only turn my phone off once a week, but I've tried pretty much every combination to see if it fixed the problem. Cleared apps a lot, "locked" the problem apps in memory to see if that helped them load faster, etc.
Nothing really seemed to make a difference.

If you want it to feel "faster'' you can go into developer options and turn off the animations for opening and closing the apps. Its a "fix" but in reality it isnt doing anything different. Its just a Samsung being a Samsung. If you want a phone that opens and does what its suppose to when you touch it get a Pixel

The developer options thing wouldn't work as this delay happens before the animation even starts.
And but yeah, I do have a Pixel 2 XL preordered.

Hmm.. I'm not so sure that these problems is related to Samsung exclusively..
My problems starts few years ago, when I had Nexus 6p.The same problem continued with iPhone 6s plus and 7 plus, then Galaxy S8 plus and now with Note 8.
I was sure that I had and have a problem with my home Wi-Fi (because as you know, WiFi can cause a lag) but when I saw this thread, well I don't know what to think anymore. I'm running out of ideas, definitely.
I've tried everything ,but no luck.
Any idea, potential solution will be very welcome..
This happens to me when my 4g reception or wifi is really not optimal. Always with internet related applications. Games , productivity etc.
What did you do about that?Solution?
I have to confirm this problem. Definitely, those problems are related to WiFi connection, in my case. My phone flying on LTE.
Does anybody has any idea, what caused these problems?
