Due to this phone lacking support I believe users like me, Titokhan and Paul O'brian at MoDaCo need to consolodate knowledge in a single thread. Titokhan has been posting OTA links into the "How to root zuk z1" thread and they're dotted all over the place.
I discovered today that any one who followed his guide to install the CyanogenOS test build will not be able to install any OTA if you have flashed a ZIP like SuperSU through my TWRP image. I was attempting to flash an OTA zip and returned an error saying because System was modified by SuperSU and Avast Anti-Theft OTA updates are disabled.
We need to step back and look back at how this is going to be rectified having all this knowledge placed all over the forum is making work hard for ourselves.
heres the fix- 1) using twrp flash cm recovery (if you need if find it in full fastboot zip) 2)download the full signed version of cm not fastboot version 3)boot to cm recovery and select apply update and update from internal storage 4)reboot, otas will be accepted and work

how can I apply the updater after flashing custom recovery (twrp)?
Basically you can't, applying OTA requires stock recovery.
And just one thing, 1.64GB for an update? I mean there isn't much in the changelog

i just updated mine with TWRP and it did went well only issue I had was that i needed to reflash TWRP and SuperSu that full update replaces the TWRP recovery remember to go back to developer setting to allow oem unlock to be able to reflash TWRP in fastboot otherwise you won't be able to

There is no need to have stock recovery you can do it with TWRP I've just done it myself

I was notified about the update on the phone and then just pressed the update now button and it restarted in TWRP and installed by itself
That's great, I'll never have to worry about OTAs
It doesnt work for me , reboot in twrp, search to flash the update and error.. ( not full update, my update is about 616 Mo )

OK, here is an update. I am rooted with TWRP and have been waiting for the full update package to become available. As of just yesterday the full update package is in the updater app on the phone. You must be connected to wifi for it to appear. Open updater, click on menu on the bottom, download latest FULL package B141. After DL it WILL FLASH THROUGH TWRP but you will lose root and TWRP. Let it do its thing then reflash TWRP through ADB and SU after that and you are good to go on the new update.
Hey i was downloaded the b13 version for my zte A2017..i cannot update from OTA because i am rooted how i make it flashable zip file? There is option to back to OTA updates? Sorry for the noob question but how i do it? How can i update on root?

If it's a full image (available here), put the update.zip on a microSD card, boot into recovery and flash the ZIP.

Flash stock recovery for your current version, boot into stock recovery and flash.

I think you need to unzip it first before you copy it on your internal storage

Try to download it again. Otherwise I only saw firmware files on the official sites from zte.

when i install it with the original recovery its says "sorry you cant sdcard update" i put the update zip in the sdcard.. what this mean? zip file open as need without any problem after download

Enable "OEM Unlocking" in Developer Options (even though you aren't unlocking, you might need to enable it anyway).

Nevermind. I already found the location. If anyone wants to know, it can be found in data/data/com.zte.zdm/files
Can you confirm the location. I am on 7.1.1 and trying to save the latest OTA (on A2017G). Under /data, I only have a mail directory and nothing else.

Interesting but I don't get it. The entire Badboyz ROM is based on Magisk. And it runs on my phone. ?

They don't use the newest version magisk. Try pulling the zip from their room that contains magisk and flash it. I've tried and had no luck. It would cause the phone to bootloop.

Did you use flashfire or something like that to flash stock recovery? I made a backup in TWRP thought about trying to restore stock recovery with that. I have did it on other phones just not this one.

Usually I just use the backup boot and recovery I have when I installed twrp using tenfar's tool. I flash my backup images in twrp. Then, i use adb sideload to upgrade rather than sd method.

yes, you can still receive and download the OTA like I how figured out the location.
However, you can't update using the downloaded OTA file unless you revert your boot and recovery partitions to stock.

Are you using root explorer? I think you need to download the ota update first but don't install.
Also, are trying to update to nougat? Here's the latest b15 rom on the official site.

i still have not received OxygenOS 3.5.8 OTA update. is there a way to download it manually and put it on my phone?
if i do that would i loose my phone ability to receive automatic further OTA updates?
also would i loose data if i use manual update? Does my device needs to be rooted?
Sorry for basics questions -- i am newbie and wants to do it right.

Use VPN , set country as Canada. Check for updated you will get OOS 3.5.8 via ota

The problem is you can't flash incremental updates via TWRP, you need to flash the complete ROM zip. It's about 1.2GB and you can't find a mirror link on AndroidFileHost
No i am not using twrb.
I just changed my phone location using VPN and got the latest update via ota.
Once i reboot as part of installation it says "failure to upgrade?"

Download rom from the given link. Take nandroid backup of your device (assuming you have TWRP). Wipe dalvik, system, Data cache and perform a clean install. First reboot will take some time.
(Warning: You will lose data)
or just download the signed incremental OTA and flash that file via TWRP
