magisk not hiding root for Mario Run or Android Pay - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Has anyone successfully been able to run apps like Super Mario Run or Android Pay you after either of the root methods? I selected hide in Magisk and it still doesn't work.

No luck here.

Which build are you on? I was able to pass safetynet with magisk 11.6 (eventually updated to 12) and install Mario run, login in Snapchat, use Android pay, etc, but I don't remember if it was with the -33 build (currently using -35)

It's just plain idiotic that some apps require you to not have root access on your own device - instead of us looking for work-rounds, we should put a stop to tolerating this behavior from companies like Google and App developers!
It's asinine, and it should be illegal for companies such as cell phone service providers or cell phone manufacturers to even try to make it harder for users to have root access on their own devices!!!

Is Galaxy S4 i9505 worth rooting??

Hey guys, i am currently on Stock 5.0.1 and i always think android 6.0 marshmallow will come to the galaxy s4. i also think that something might go wrong in the rooting process and then my phone will not work... and it will be broken...
can anyone persuade me to root my phone?? i have rooted my old galaxy s3 before, because that was on jellybean which is outdated.
https://androidmtk.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s4-lte-gt-i9506 I think the process is the same, but you must download the right .tar file from here: https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
He asked for arguments on why he should root.
The advantage to rooting is the same on all phones.
You get the freedom to do whatever you want with it.
I, honestly, would feel very limited without root.
Thanks guys!
No mobile banking if you root (at least with my bank anyway). That's what is stopping me. I need my mobile banking app.
Other then that, no reason not to root.

You could bypass rooting checks on these kind of apps with RootCloak (Xposed required). - not all, just some

Totally worth it, even just to debloat a stock ROM, and watch the battery time go up
Anything beyond that is a further bonus.
I would never use an unrooted phone
It is completrly worth it for the freedom of custom rom

I googled it before and (at the time) Barclays (my bank) was able to detect rooted devices, no matter what anyone did to try and hide it.

I SAID SOME, means that not all apps could be bypassed, because some apps (especially banking apps) use native hooking for detecting root access and it couldn't be prevented by any way.
Latest beta of RootCloak added support of native hooking in hope that it would support more apps...

Unlocking Bootloader now trips SafetyNet

Its been reported that merely having an unlocked bootloader now trips safetynet. Google has officially turned their backs on developers and enthusiasts.
I never had a problem with xposed or magisk tripping safetynet; but an unlocked bootloader is by no means a security risk. So I'm not happy having to choose between snapchat and an unlocked bootloader.

Well RIP AP....
Pixel and now this, I guess Google is becoming Apple 2.0
can confirm, I have unrooted stock 7.0 as my primary on multirom and is tripping safetynet, no more AP for me I guess since I'm NOT locking the bootloader, nice play Google

IIRC chainfire DID warn us about this..saying if we keep trying to hide root, they'll keep trying to make it harder for us to do so.
Doing it to the pixel? Fine..but to a nexus phone? Kinda murders the whole selling point of Nexus.
Either way elgoog has been making some really odd decisions this past month or so.
I have an unlocked bootloader with everything stock and no root and I got past safety net for Pokemon Go.

Last I heard pokemon go isn't working with safetynet properly right now. Download SafetyNet Helper Sample from the PlayStore, it'll tell you whether you pass or not.

Well I guess that a smartphone isn't for me, I'm gonna get a dumb phone again. Google can suck it. This is so ridiculous.

Yeah, that one isn't a part of this as its not unlockable. I'm talking about the Google Pixel.
This f's people who just want to install the latest factory image too; non power users who don't root and just want the latest OS..considering you need an unlocked boot loader to flash the images.

Not if you side load the latest ota files posted the same day:good:
By the way, does re-locking bootloader wipe data or internal? Factory image page says that "Locking bootloader will wipe the data on some devices. ".
Pretty sure on the n6, we wipe everything on both unlock & relock.
I'm planning on getting a new Nexus 6. Is it not the right time? I'm afraid this issue will make me unable to customize my new phone.

You can still customize. You just can't do crap that you probably shouldn't be worrying about anyway. Android pay is a sham, since your credit card has an RF chip in it that works on the same scanner... but ONE FEWER companies get to track all your purchases when you use it since it leaves google out of the loop.
Indeed; also as long as you log into Snapchat once before you install root, it seems to continue to work after root / magisk installation.
I'm on 7.0 stock, rooted and unlocked bootloader and snapchat works fine.

I just want to say that Snapchat is one of the worst coded apps ever
For Snapchat to work, you have to login before rooting your device, just don't log out lol

Amen.
I wonder what the hook is that it uses to check if the bootloader is locked...? It *must* go through the kernel, so maybe this is as simple as telling the kernel to LIE about it.
Well, that is simple conceptually, but not necessarily *easy* to implement.

Unable to make snapchat account. Is it because im rooted? Easy fix?

Ive been trying to setup a snapchat account but it says i cannot for whatever reason. Is it because im rooted? Is there an easy fix for this? Im running 7.1.1 stock kernel. Thx :good:
No they locked me out of my account today for 24 hours only reason displayed is the use of third-party apps like Casper

To create an account or login the device needs to pass safety net as far as I can remember. Something like Magisk is a good solution in case you login and out a lot. If not just fully unrooted, login then root and stay logged in.

I've been using casper for a few months and have been fine, if you use the root function I think they can't detect it.
Snapchat does need to pass safety net initially but people have reported that unrooting, signing into Snapchat and then rooting afterwards works as long as you stay signed in. The more complicated fix would be to use Magisk and PhilsSu instead of SuperSu. That combination is the only way to pass safety net currently that I know of.
I basically just used common uninstall root and login

Use magisk and search and flash universal safety net fix beta 5 and it will be alright.

Restoring Moto G4 Plus (XT1644-US) so it can pass Safety Net test

Hi,
I had my Moto G4 (with the official Nougat 7.0 upgrade) rooted with Elemental using SuperSU, but it was then blocking some apps due Safty Net test fail.
Is there a way to set the firmware as something like "Brand New", I don't know, factory reset or some other possible configuration...?
I just don't care If I loose the data or root advantages, I just want to use those apps again, without having to buy a really brand new phone.
All ideas or tutorials are really apreciated.
Thanks

Use magisk for root, probably only this can pass safetynet for now
Also if some apps block from starting then under magisk hide just select that app and the app will work

Keeping Netflix and Bank Access After Root

I'm sorry for asking such a simple question, but it's been more than a year since I've bought my g5+ and been away from rooting/flashing due to warranty. I would like to root this phone to enable camera Api 2 and miracast connectivity on its build prop. What I don't know is if its possible to do that without losing Netflix and Bank access. Is it possible to only alter the build prop and unroot afterwards?
If someone can direct me to a topic where I could get this knowledge, please do. Thanks in advance.
i am using aosip 8.1 rom and magisk 16.3, netflix has no issues installing from the play store and my banking app works fine as well

Yes it's possible to use Netflix and bank apps with root.
I have rooted (magisk) moto g5 plus (Potter) running on Lineage OS 15.1. Netflix and bank apps work fine.
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Install a custom recovery
TWRP is best.
3. Root using magisk. Supersu is not recommended since it would break safetynet and there's no workaround for it as far as I know.
4. Install the universal safetynet fix module in magisk. It should fix safetynet.
5. Use magiskhide option in magisk to hide root from Bank apps.
6. I don't know if camera api 2 and miracast can be enabled without modifying system. There is a magisk module to enable camera api2 but I don't know about miracast. Please research this further.
Please do extensive research on each of these steps before proceeding. Below links may help.
