S7 edge dual sim: does wifi calling work with EE in the UK? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

The S7 edge is one of the few phones which the UK network EE says is compatible with its wifi calling, even if not bought directly from them (ie not on an EE firmware).
http://ee.co.uk/help/phones-and-device/wifi-calling
However, are the dual sim versions of the s7 edge compatible, too? AFAIK the dual sim versions are meant mainly for some Asian and Middle Eastern countries. EE does not know the answer.
On ebay I can find the G9350 and the G935FD versions.
The only information I managed to find on the web is a few discussions about the dual sim versions being incompatible with wifi calling with T-Mobile in the US.

I have the UK unlocked btu and That works on ee Wi-Fi calling

@chrisully, thanks. S7 or s7 edge? Single or dual sim? If you have a UK version, I assume it's single sim? Where did you buy it?
Also, may I ask what BTU means, exactly, and how to interpret all the codes of a firmware? I thought BTU meant unbranded, but there are Asian unbranded firmwares without BTU in the name, so I'm not sure.

Hi it's s7 edge but the s7 is the same. EE have community forums that can help. The btu is the firmware just look into guides into flashing with Odin. Btu is the UK generic version. I got my phone direct from Samsung but others have bought from carphone warehouse. The flashing is easy and lots of guides. Samobile is best to get firmware from. Also because it's official it won't good warranty or trip knox

BTU means unbranded, unlocked, i.e. direct from Samsung.

Thanks both.
SM-G935FD is the dual sim S7 edge sold in Singapore and other Asian countries (not Hong Kong).
If I search sammobile.com, I see there are:
a Singapore Starhub version (Starhub is a local carrier): https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/126542/G935FXXU1DQB7_G935FOLB1DQB7_STH/
a Singapore version I understand is unbranded, but does not have BTU in the name: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/126541/G935FXXU1DQB7_G935FOLB1DQB7_MM1/
Does BTU mean unbranded but sold in Europe? Is there any unbranded Asian firmware which is, in fact, compatible with EE's wifi calling?

This guy said that he managed to flash the sm-g935f firmware onto an sm-g935fd , ie a single sim firmare onto a dual sim phone.

He claims he retained dual sim functionality, but failed to get wifi calling to work with Vodafone. However, Vodafone states on its website that only Vodafone-branded phones work with its wifi calling, whereas unbranded phones should work with EE's wifi calling. I'm very surprised you can flash the firmware of a single sim onto a dual sim, but I'm wondering if this trick would work with EE.

I agree you need to flash BTU for WiFi support on EE network
I also recommend clearing cache partition in recovery after flashing BTU firmware (my S7E did not show the wifi calling option until i cleared cache and rebooted)

So, here's my experience. I bought a 128 GB dual sim s7 edge SM-G935FD from ebay. I think it ran a UAE firmware. There was no wifi calling. I didn't try to update the firmware.
I went to the sammobile website: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7-edge/SM-G935F/ , searched the firmwares for the SM-G935F (which is the single sim phone), and downloaded the UK BTU version (5-Apr-2017).
I followed the instructions here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3335065 to flash the firmware with Odin. Specifically, I put BL, AP and CP in the corresponding slots, and put CSC (not home_csc in the CSC slot). Still no option for wifi calling. I did an over-the-air update of the firmware, and, ta da, wifi calling magically appeared! To be clear, I did retain dual sim functionality. I note that sammobile has since uploaded a 7-May-2017 firmware; not sure if, flahsing that one directly, wifi calling would have appeared straight away.
I tested it with the EE carrier in the UK, and, yes, wifi calling does work!
Of course I can accept no responsibility if you follow the same steps but end up bricking your phone!

Wow.
Are you using one SIM and a MicroSD-Card with your S7 Dual SIM (G935FD)?
Is it possible for you during a VoLTE-Call to surf in the internet or to send WhatsApp-Messages - at the same time?
Do you have in "Mobile Network Settings" also the possibilitiy to chose "VoLTE-Call" - like in my picture above?
I supposed you can do both the at same time provided you are you using a handsfree or speaker. Yes i have the option in mobile network setting.

Hi
need your guidance.
i have just got my Relicance jio Sim and put it in my S7 Edge Duos (G935FD) bought from UAE .
i am unable to use VoLTE. , there is no option for wifi calling .
could you share what CSC u have in your phone?
what can i do to get VoLTE working on my device.
Please help. i need wifi calling /hd calling
oh i forgot to mention only data is working on my device it shows 4G.
voice calls are not working directly.. only way to make voice calls from Jio sim is to install jiojoin app. i have confirmed with jio help desk there is no issue with voice and data services from their end.
so it seems to be a firmware problem.
someone, please share your firmware details and CSC details etc so i can flash the same firmware and fix the issue..
Just put Mobile in LTE MODE in cellular networks. Automatically volte signal and HD calling would be detected.

S7 edge 935F model. No service.

Hi there,
The phone worked fine a month but after an firmware update. I am getting "no service" permenantly.
Tried almost everything.
- mobile networks in setting finds no networks.
- tried a different sims (including a european prepaid sim from ireland)
- factory reset
- tried downgrade to the older rom (EGY oldest firmware) nothing works and even the latest UK(BTU) firmware
I am located in the US (cricket wireless). I believe the phone was the EGY origin.
Anyone else having or seen a solution to this issue would be greatly appriecated.
I think it's something with the region lock. This is very frustrating as first experience with an andriod phone.
Cheers.

It seem you flash the branded firmware and it might lock the network to their carrier. Try flash unbrand firmware like BTU (unbranded UK), DBT(Germany) etc.

"The tab below this sticker explains how and why, albeit in tiny and rather verbose script. Essentially, in order for your unlocked European GS7/Edge to be fully unlocked, you first need to make a total of five minutes worth of phone calls using a European SIM. If you don't do this, and try to use it with a SIM from outside of Europe, it won't connect to the network." Seems that the update restored that script. Source: HERE.

First thing id try is going back to the original firmware the phone came with. If it gets signal again you know that the uk firm isnt compatible with where you are. If you were rooted id have suggested finding thr modem firm and flashing it. But dont do that cause if the phone is faulty you will need your warranty in tack to return the phone for repair.
Edit. Another thought is my wife was having problems with her sim. She rang vodafone (her carrier) and they did a sim refresh on her sim remotely which gave her signal again. Maybe try ringing your carrier to see if thats a issue or not.

Three uses volte and BTU works fine. I'm having no issues with volte.
The BTU firmware does not have VOLTE you would need to have the EE CSC (EVR ) on your device to gain this.

Let me explain.
HOME_CSC is if you "DO NOT" want to wipe data (such as flashing a rom without wiping data). This method will keep data but will not change CSC.
You want to use the one that does not have HOME_CSC in it. So pick the first one.
Also, make sure you are flashing all 4 files in ODIN.

sorry guys, quick question. im totally stupid with this firmware buisness, watched like 50 youtube videos and search alot of stuff but i dont get it.
basically i bought my s7 in the UAE (SM-G930FD) dual sim and want to change the firmware to UK SM-G930F cos i cant use samsung pay with my british card/account.
looking ito the firmware downloads on sammobile, theres loads of different versions like ee or 3g etc. my phone is unlocked and i want it to stay that way so which do i choose? do i have to choose the firmware of the network i want to use?
thanks

SM-G950FD Official ROM

I have just acquired the international factory unlocked Galaxy S8, model number SM-G950FD duel sim, and don't see that specific variant on Sammobile official rom downloads. There are many SM-G950F downloads and correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume they would work, only problem is don't know which region I should use. There are 7 or 8 different regions with the matching PDA and CSC sequences as mine, but does it matter which one I choose? Just want to be sure I have the proper "official" backup rom before I venture into rooting etc.
Have searched this thread and the net to no avail.
Any advice and clarification on this would be greatly appreciated!
G950FD is a variant of G950F. But still I'm not sure if you can flash it or not because modem, bootloader and baseband are exact model number exclusive. Btw Sammobile is not official provider of stock rom. You can try using Samsung's official app.
OK thanks! Now when you say "try using Samsung's official app", do you mean Smartswitch for Windows or Kies 3 or something other?

So sure enough I locked myself out of my phone after rooting (don't ask) only access was download mode, so I tried SmartSwitch and it got me back up and running! So thank you very much for the tip "undercontr"!
Only thing I would suggest is to ensure you have your phone's serial number (required for SmartSwitch) on hand. Because other than acquiring from the dialer code, the only other place is on the sticker on back of phone....it's not on the box. So keep your sticker in a safe place when you remove from back of phone!

If you're not hanging around forbidden stuff in Android, you should always stick to official stuff. Stability is greater in that way.
I wouldn't root my device if it has still warranty.

I have G950F phone, and I'm trying to get Samsung Pay US to work. Can I flash G950FD (XSG) firmware on my G950F phone?
When I had my S7 edge (G935F), I had XSG firmware and I was able to get Samsung Pay US to work but XSG model was G935F then and not G935FD.

(sorry I am noob, cannot post formatted hyperlink): updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model is good for downloading firmware.
And thanks to everyone here! - I was coming to ask same question: Would I brick my SM-G955FD by flashing SM-G955F software.. (to enable native WiFi Callling/VoWiFi by fllashing to a region which does not have SM-G955FD specific firmware).
Can you get like a another sim tray and use sd card? I'm presuming its the same as F and no real changes tbh

I just checked my Duo; The SIM Tray has a 'SIM1' slot, and a 'SIM2/MicroSD' slot which looks like it can take either (not both).

The latest ATFF firmware can be donwloaded for the SM-G9860 for BRI (Taiwan), CHC (China) or TGY (Taiwan) CSC.
The first one (BRI) is 5265 MB (Frija)
The second one (CHC) is 6376 MB (Frija)
The third (TGY) is 5167 MB (Frija)
How can we explain these 3 differents sizes for the same firmware for the same 9860 Samsung Phone ?
Pascal
BRI and TGY are in the same multi CSC OZS 5167 MB
BRI and TGY are in the same multi CSC OZW for purple édition BTS 5265 MB
CHC is in single CSC OZL 6376 MB
prism and optics ( CSC ) have not the same size

I have the TGY bought it from Hong Kong and the update was 385.79 MB
guys... is it possible to flash a OXM firmware into a phone that originally came with OWO fw? I want to change CSC from ZTO (Brazil) to any european country that has native call recording
If answer is yes, which european CSC would be recommend ? Having the fastest update roll out and native recording? Is it possible not to break OTA on the process?
I do have a question... i currently have a S20+ G986N --> korean version... is it possible to install the U version? If yes, do I have the benefit to activate the 4G and 5G frequencies? --> for example 5G is limited... only the N78 (3500mhz)
Or it the G986N hareware limited? And can I activate the dual sim? Currently is "onyl" single sim!
New update
Just want to make sure guys but, what I've read in different forums, there's no way possible without rooting to change the CSC from BRI to US CSC (U1 for example)?
BTH7 is out for BRI 9860; it is 987,96 Mo; it is August pacth
New update! It's One Ui 2.5
Hello,
I got S20+ Taiwan BRI firmware, it is possible to flash the China CHC firmware? I want to use the call recording.
