Problem with Moto g5 viewfinder - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

There is a problem with the moto g5 plus viewfinder(camera). It displays the image in a VGA quality. After the picture has been taken, the pictures real quality appears. Anybody has the same problem or knows how to fix it.

This is how it is intended to work. This is not a problem or bug.

Camera won't focus

Recently I found the camera fails to focus in various occasions. The image in the viewfinder stays blurry no matter how I configure the camera app (stock/3rd party). But it can capture clear close-up shots so I assume the camera is somehow fixed at macro shots. To fix this issue, I have to open something like Barcode Scanner (which will continue adjust the focus) and leave it for a couple of minutes. Then the camera will be working again for a few hours or so or until I reboot the phone.
Does anyone encounter the same issue? I would like to know whether it is hardware or software problem.
PS: I am pretty sure this is nothing related to any sort of settings/configurations.
It happen here, too...

Check your macro configuration.

As I said I am sure it's nothing related to configuration. It's more likely to be related to software (if not hardware, which is still possible).

I have this problem with third part apps too.
I have no problem about this.
No matter I use stock camera, vignette or camera360, it focuses normally.
What camera app are you using?

i have no problem at all. whether i use the stock camera app, or cameraFX, my camera has no issues focusing at all.
since nobody else is actually experiencing the problem, it might be something related to a fine setting, or an application thats interfering with your camera app. why not u try a hard reset and see if solves the problem?

Thanks for your reply. Goggle often freeze and cannot focus normally.
The picture will be blur when I put the camera about 30cm away from the targets using goggle app.
Do you have the same problem? I don't know whether it's a software problem or firmware problem.

I saw many ppl meet this problem on Chinese forum even using the internal-camera app.
I think it's firmware's problem.

its quite odd that different firmwares seem to pose different problems: ie from what i noticed those running GB and EuroRetail versions seem to have a problem with the responsiveness of their hardware keyboard. AsiaRetail has a bug issue with the contacts search, and now the ME722 with a camera focus issue. what i have seen with my camera is after a reboot, when i capture a picture, the picture ends up being captured, but the capture animation freezes until i hit one of the soft keys. not really a bother but its still an issue
really, it all boils down to the same argument, that Motorola and MotoDevs really need to address these issues in fixes and updates, cuz really though some bugs arent that annoying, certain ones like a malfunctioning keyboard and a non-focusing camera can be a real pain in the a**.
@ the person tho started this thread: why not you try to flash Argen2Stone ROM? perhaps that might solve your problem?

Sadly, I am currently using Argen2Stone 1.8, but still experiencing the problem.
I tried to flash back to UK2.2, which the phone came with, but still no luck.
The "barcode scanner" trick temporarily solves my problem. Yet who wants to run it for a few minutes before taking photos?
I swear I won't purchase any Moto smartphone in the future. They simply ignore customers outside the US.

Google Camera - "Cannot connect to camera."

Hey guys, I was testing out the Google Camera app (because I like to consider all of my options) when I noticed that trying to switch to video mode causes a "Camera Error: Cannot connect to camera." All other 3rd party camera apps I've tried have worked with video. Does anyone else know why this may be happening? I'm guessing because it's just not fully compatible with the G4 camera, but I'd love to use Google Camera as my daily use camera app.
Double check the permissions on the app and make sure it's allowed to access the camera.

Yes, it is. It works for normal pictures just not for video.
Odd. Unfortunately I'm not sure then.

Yes. Everything seems to be in order.
New Google camera apps have a different API or lib (for videos and panoramas) only present on the Nexus phones. The last version of the Google camera app that works on any phone is 2.7.008 available on apkmirror, but with Moto G?, if you want to use photosphere or paborama, you have to focus in the main camera and the switch to mode that you want... Otherwise, you'll get a really blurry photo.

It's not that I particularly need the Google Camera for anything, I just saw the error and didn't understand it.

Camera viewport does not match screen

I have a "weird" problem with my S8+. Weird because it is so obvious yet no one seems to have this problem. Posting here because S8 has much more views.
Basically, the camera viewport doesn't match the screen. There was a recent update which fixed this for the Samsung camera, but still broken for 3rd party apps (such as Messenger). However, if you switch 3rd party apps to non-full screen camera, then the viewport is temporarily fixed.
Anyone else having this problem? It definitely seems like software issue and not hardware issue.
I have same issue
Camera is working fine
But 3rd party apps still viewport wrong
Whatsapp is my mane issue becuse i use it much

Thanks for confirming. Looking into a way to report this to Samsung.

Viber and camera photos quality

Did anyone noticed, that camera inside Viber (and I think the same problem with Snap in some other thread) is awful.
Standard camera (app) is nice, but if you start camera inside Viber (very similar with FB messenger) it's completely usefull.
Is there any solution for that? What is problem? Aspect ratio?

LG G6 wide angle camera with Facebook Live

Does anyone know a way to broadcast on Facebook Live with the wide angle camera? All I can find as options are the regular camera and front facing camera.
Thanks!
Nope. 3rd party applications are probably not going to understand that the device has a second camera.
You'd probably need a custom made application that taps into it.

That's not true in every case. Whatsapp can use all three cameras, so Facebook could implement it as well if they wanted to. It's probably not even a big deal, but very few (none?) phones have an extra camera with a different lens.
I'd love to be able to do that too !
It's feasible on the Youtube Live App... Hopefully Facebook will update their app in order to allow us to switch the camera....
If anyone has a tip, i'm really interested !
