Rooting help please

hey guys i am pretty sure i am smart enough to root my phone, im just curious about what all i can do by just simply rooting. I am more than content with the stock rom so im not really thinking bout flashing a custom one.
I've had 3 android phones but never successfully rooted any of them lol. so i just pretty much gave up. From what i can see the process of rooting the vibrant seems fairly simple. Once i have rooted the phone how would i go about uninstalling bloatware? What else can i do besides tethering? I guess what im needing help with is what to do once i have rooted. Im sorry for being a noob lol i've read a lot of different threads on rooting but im still really confused about what to do once you have rooted. Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry again for bein nooby. Have a great day ya'll
(sorry for typos and grammatical errors im posting from my phone)
rooting on this phone is literally a 2 minute process. I just got the phone yesterday (first droid device ever, jumped ship from symbian) and I rooted it right away. I made a stock backup with ROM manager first, and then purchased rootexplorer to clear the bloat off. Most advanced functionality requires a rooted phone...I would definitely recommend doing it

New To Smartphones & Galaxy Note

Hello Everyone
I'm a total novice with smartphones having used an old nokia flip phone for the past 8 years. Anyway i needed a new business phone and took the plunge and got myself a Samsung Galaxy Note ... lol ... After the initial shock, i love it ....
As stated i'm a noobie to smart phones but fairly handy at Tech being a linux only user ...
So i am wanting to root this phone and then get rid of all the bloatware rubbish. I tried to root this thing last night, but kept getting an error about incompatible file.
Looking at my current system this is whats installed:
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband: N7000XXLA4
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
Any guidance would be very helpful and once i get used to a smartphone & android haha i'll be rocking ....
Many Thanks
As a Linux user, you're going to feel right at home on rooted Android!
You'll also feel at home reading lots of guides on how to do stuff and fix things, amirite?
I got my root with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
That should work with all Notes, no matter which version firmware you're running. It's basically the "nuke from orbit" of rooting.
Btw, be sure to get Botbrew when you're rooted for more Linux CLI goodness.

After going through many threads I found that German ICS rom have some issues like battery. I decided to wait for official OTA. Not gained enough knowledge or courage to flash

[Q] Questions from a noobie

Hello, Im new to rooting and Android devices. Im thinking of buying a Nexus 7 and root it.
The question is....what can I do with a rooted Nexus 7? Please try to explain with detail, Im new to this
Custom ROMs built by devs to improve speed stability and battery life.

The question would be, what cant you do with a rooted nexus 7?
Thank you! I for one don't know where to start since I'm a newbie myself. I just got my n7 also and had the same question as the op.
Parting from your answer, I see that the n7 system is pretty good with speed and battery life already. Could you please tell us what other benefits await for us after rooting, or flashing, o whatever the heck is that us noobs should be doing to our mint n7s?
Thanks for your help!
Sincerely,
A brand new android noob.

rooting gives you the priviledge to access more commands on your phone/tab,you can delete system files which you dont need, use titanium backup which can back up all your apps and can also give you the ability to flasher rom/kernel while a custom rom provides the user more option not available on the stock one(Untouched) ie. Tablet mode for our device.but beware since rooting/using custom roms invalidates your warranty
Sorryfor the late response and thanks for all the useful replies. I'll continue searching and gaining some knowledge.
Another q....the member above me posted that rooting voids the warranty. So the questions is, if I need to return my Nexus to the store for whatever reason after I root it, can I just restore like with iPhones?

Yeah, you can restore it back to stock and lock the boot loader again no problem. No one will know that it was even rooted.

The new phones should already come with MF9. At the least MDL. If they don't do the update at best buy you can do it yourself. It is very easy. And rooting is a sinch..just use Auto root and there is a video tutorial by QBKing77 that is stickiedm follow directions and you can root within 5 mins.
