SD card benchmark - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi!
Has anybody seen (or made himself) a benchmark about the SD card performance?

I'm pretty sure the phone can handle high speed SD cards where they do 95 read and write.

Those values are only theoretical values. I'm interested in real benchmarks...

I have an S7 and a high quality SanDisk UFS I card. I was getting about 60mbs read and 50mbs write. I just bought a new UFS II card of the same brand and tried it in the S7. There was no speed difference even though the card is rated twice as fast. I'm assuming the S7 doesn't support UFS II. Does anyone know if the S8 will utilize the extra speed? I hope I didn't waste the money on the new card.

Sd card apps
Samsung s8 sd card finally can use to move/install apps and oculus apps ?

95ish is no longer a high speed card IMO.
270ish is a high speed card.
BTW the S7 could do 95ish. I tested it. It could not do UHSII which is what we really need. A UHSII slot at 270 with adoptable storage properly supported would be the end of any kind of storage issues on phones.

I bought this one:
SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB Class 10 UHS-II microSDXC Memory Card, U3, Up to 275MB/s Read Speed, 100MB/s Write Speed
I can tell you that it is performing no better than the same SanDisk UFS I card that is rated at half that speed. The best my S7 will do is about 65 read and 60 write. It's not bad but disappointing considering my old card would do that. I hope the S8 can do better.

I'm wondering if the S8 is capable of UHS-II speeds as well.

UFS cards will replace SD cards anyway really soon. thought samsung was going to have it on the s8 but it seems theyre saving it for the note 8 or the s9

Just made the benchmark for my own with my today arrived S8+ and A1 SD Bench:
PNY 128GB UHS-1 (class 10): Read 53,92 - Write 17,64
Internal UFS 2.1: Read 562,15 - Write 215,2

Hey, I was the other dude that made the Androbench thread,
Could I ask one more thing, could you just change a setting in Andro bench and rerun if it's not too much trouble
Go to settings, buffer size... The change the seq to 256.... Leave the Rd as 4

Thank you results look great! Looking like iPhone level read speeds!

Well I guess my investment in a UFS II card was a waste of money. I'm only getting about 65mb read and 65mb write speeds in my S8. I gues the S8 does not use UFS II.

I've just got myself a SDSQUAR-200G-GN6MA, but on Galaxy S8 Plus the A1 SD Bench seq. read speed is ranging from only 40 - 60MBps. Much lower than most reviews who managed to get around 90MBps. Is this means the SD is flawed?

The S8 plus max speed is about 70MB/s read/write, tested with sandisk extreme pro v30 32gb

Then that explains it. I was hoping it was the case too, so when I have a card reader at least I can attain the higher speed possible with the SD card. Thank you for the information!

SD card speed write/read

hey guys im looking to get back into the note.. love it.. i have a GS3 with a class 10 sandisk. my write speed is about 13MB a sec and read speed is 21MB a sec...
anyone know if its worth getting the extreme sandisk that reads up to 50/80/90MB a sec?
will the note 3 SD card slot even read it at that speeds?
its pretty nice now that note 3 lowest internal is 32GB im sure ill be ok with it for my use but i know i will be wanting more memory later on and samsung some how always release the very high memory later or never..

I bought this card in June for my S4. It transfers at blazing speeds and has been worth every penny.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005VFG06W/
Avoid Sandisk cards. They have been failing at a high rate, and are slower compared to the competition. I'd recommend getting a Samsung micro-sd card from amazon for just a few dollars more.
I had the ultra in my note 2. Switched to the extreme a month ago when the Lyra started failing.
I found even in the note 2 a noticeable difference in read/write.

Slow SanDisk Micro SD 64gb Extreme Pro

Hey guys. I have a Verizon Note 3. Just bought the SanDisk Extreme 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-I Memory Card (SDSDQX-064G-AFFP-A) and received it from Amazon. I've used the SanDisk Memory Zone App and it's speed test is saying the read spead is about 30 MB/s. Additionally, I've used the A1 SD Bench app and the results for the Accurate with reboot results are worse. 21.61 MB/s! I put the SD card in and reformatted it in the Note 3. Everything is stock, no root. The claimed max read speed with the card, according to SanDisk, is 80 MB/s. I've even heard some people getting almost 100 MB/s with these cards. What gives? Any suggestions on how to increase the performance? BTW, the card is still blank and I haven't added any files from my old card on to the new one. Thanks!
I would like more info about this also. I am between 64GB Ultra and Extreme...

The note 3 doesn't support UHS-1 so you wont get anywhere near the advertised speeds.
Is it a hardware or software thing?

This is the answer to OP's Question.
Yeah, I too suffer with the same problem and painfully found out that the Card Reader (In our Case the Mobile) should support handling that card as well. My GoPro Hero 3 Supports this flawlessly.
So, our device is high end. But it doesn't support this. What phones do? HTC?

Micro SD benchmark.

I just wanted to share some of the information i found.
I'm currently using Micro SD from Sandisk called Sandisk Extreme. The card have speed of 60mb/s Read and 40 mb/s Write. I used an app called A1 SD bench to test the card speed on my phone.
The result I got on my Note 3 was 19-21mb/s Read and 9-14mb/s write. As you notice even though my card should have higher numbers but I think the Micro SD reader slowing it down. Now that I have the Note 4 the result is amazing. I have 59.8mb/s Read and 38mb/s write. The numbers are very close to the advertised card speed which is great.
I though I will share this information just so you know that note 4 does benefit from higher micro sd card speed.

Does Shield TV has UHS-II reader?

I search around website but couldn't find the specific specs for the micro sd card reader for Shield TV. Does it support UHS-II? I am planning to purchase the Lexar 1800x and want to make sure if I can take full advantage of that card which support read speed up to 300MB/S. I'm also wondering about the writing and reading speed of original storage on 16GB version.
Nvm I contacted Nvidia support, only support UHS-I class 3.

by chance, did you ask what the maximum read/write speeds were for on the microsd slot?

I assume all the card reader of UHS-1 class3 should have same limit...based on the wiki the limit for that is 104 MByte/s.
I did some further research and seems like random writing and reading speed is actually more important than sequence speed. However, the review on amazon shows Samsung pro plus is best on both random and sequence speed so I guess I will just go with that for now. Laxer is actually only good at reading speed.

thats a pretty misleading article, there compairing a 128gb evo plus to other various sized cards. from what ive seen (so far) all premium 128gb cards have relatively low write speeds vs their smaller counterparts.
lexar's generally have the best sequential read/write speed, samsung's usually are better with random read/write, and sandisk is definitely solid too.
for example
lexar 64gb 633x sequential read/write 93.36 / 48.09 MB/s
lexar 128gb 633x sequential read/write 73.17 / 22.16 MB/s
results are basically the same for other manufacturers.

Definitely a fast card read/write was a bit faster than 80/40 MB/s iirc.
I haven't ran any legit benchmarks on shield yet, but regardless of the sd card i haven't really seen write speeds over 12-15 MB/s while transferring from internal to sd with file managers, ES specifically.
So im thinking internal storage isn't particularly fast, just like on the shield tablet. If i get bored I'll run some tests and see what I come up with
I haven't found a device that's not a camera that support this format yet.
^^ yeah pretty much. even if they call it out. real world speeds dont seem to get there. outside of HD cameras
The microsd reader is UHS-I so you will spend money for nothing. No matter how fast the external storage is you still depend on the speed of the internal storage which is gong to be the bottleneck when you run the OS and apps. 4K video needs 25Mbps and UHS-I can deliver easily. Same story if you read from USB 3 ports. I don't know the speed of the internal storage but it should be at the commercial level of the beginning of 2015.

What's your read/write speed with the pro plus? I got the same, I get 60~ r/w.
I ordered 500gb version...I did get the card for my phone lol but like 40s speed sad

How's the SD card speed?

Would someone with an an XZ2 Premium please run a storage speed test on the Micro SD card slot? The XZ2 is apparently gimped compared to last year's XZ1. Which is a real shame.
SD speeds seem pretty bad.
Using A1 SD Bench, running the "accurate w/reboot" test, it achieved only 19.26MB/s read and 21.52MB/s write.
This was with the latest Samsung EVO 128GB U3 card capable of near 100MB/s reads and almost 90MB/s writes as tested on my PC using USB3 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWZWYVP).
Dismal.

Same for me, I also checked my EVO Plus U3 Card on my PC and it was fine, so there does seem to be an issue, the internal memory speed is insanely fast

There's an issue, alright. The issue is that they implemented a pathetic SD card subsystem in an expensive, super-premium phone. It's no wonder that it took so long to generate thumbnails for the photos I transferred over - the SD card read speed (and write speed) is thoroughly gimped.
