Impressive. Considering the most I have ever managed for SoT on my S5 is 4-5 hours ands thats with screen brightness turned down quite a bit, cant wait for my s8+ to arrive!!

that makes me so happy. The iphone 6s Plus I had would last all day. The Note 7 I had would last all day. The S7E is almost dead by noon (5-6 hours.) Looks like the S8+ will last me all day again.

Very impressed with the battery life on the little S8 and the S8 Plus.
Considering the former only has a 3000 mAh battery, it lasted surprisingly long.

I get 6-7 hours on my s7e exynos, I dono why some people get such crap battery life, maybe duds?

Facebook, snapchat, weather running in statusbar all the time for starters. I show people all the time how much that stuff kills battery and tell them to manually check social media accounts.

Cause most everyone uses their phone's differently. Someone else using your exact phone may see way less.

I got the Exynos S7 Edge and I'm averaging at about 5.5H SOT. About 3.5h SOT is outdoors with maximum brightness. Tomorrow my S8 will arrive and I'll report back then

any shipments as of yet ?

It's better than my Note 7

I havent done any monitoring but I believe it is better than my S7 Edge. I was not happy with S7 once it updated to Nouget.

It's because there were many people who had battery draining bugs on their S7E. Certain apps (out of the box) and certain settings would cause the battery to drain extremely fast.
I know all of this because I went through it and I created a thread on how to fix the issue.
My final results with a Snapdragon S7E were roughly 8 hours SOT.

Please post SOT and battery discharge screenshots

Looks like I'm projecting to get 5.5-6 SOT on my S8+. Although that is only 30% into the battery, so we'll see.
Seems ok to me.
But im on the highest resolution setting (raised it from the default), auto brightness, wifi/bluetooth/nfc/location services on, and an android wear watch connected.

Yesterday first full day was over 6 hours sot, let it down to 23%, once I'm done playing will be interesting to see standby drain.

Galaxy S6 Edge Battery Life

For those of you who have received your Galaxy S6 Edge already, congratulations I wish I was one of you ☺
Please report how your battery life (so far) is. I know it's a small sample but I'd like to know about.
Thanks
As far as i got to know, the battery life of Samsung Galaxy S6 is quite good and is having nice longevity. It offers the 2600 maH battery life which is much good from the other smartphone's that's in the market now days. http://cdn4.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon14.gif
Got mine Saturday played a ton with it that day. Sunday was much of the same. The battery was so so. By no means will I ever rate a battery week one.
Today was more of a normal day and I was pleased with the battery life. It is difficult to say how it will be. I'm coming from a Note 4 so making comparisons isn't fair.

This is the only reason why I might skip the edge. I currently have Z3 and it is just so much joy to never be worried about battery life. I don't even check what is the SOT anymore since I know that no matter what I do with the phone it will last the whole day.
However S6 edge just looks so gorgeous and my blocky Z3 starting to look so last season..

Well, if you think like this, you can never buy a new phone. There would be many downsides of Note 5 and an that point you will think of S7.

I agree with Andy. The Z3's battery life was the stuff of legends compared to the crap life of just about every other smartphone out there. I miss mine too sometimes but honestly, I'm rarely without power so a quick charge is a reasonable tradeoff.
Battery life, like mentioned is so so. It's better than my last phone, but definitely not up to z3 standard.

In 28m 24s on battery I'm at 95 percent with 23 mins of screen time and like 2 youtube video, texting, and making changes to the home screen.
I will be comparing it to my iPhone 6 Plus and OnePlus One later in the week.

Anybody else getting abnormal amount of "Cell Standby" drain? For reference, I am also on Wifi Calling. This cell standby battery usage is usually higher than screen on time.
My cell standby is 1% and I've been using the phone since 9am.
I have WiFi calling off and power save mode off. Tomorrow I will test it with power save mode on. Right now I'm sitting at 61 after 1hr of hulu. I did some textimg ,phone call and a few videos on ign also. . Next update will have pics and details
Same here. Cell standby is killing my battery. Factory reset may help?

Post your battery results and discuss how to make it better :good:
Let's hope Kirin 950 is efficient because with the right setup, Mate 7 does well and I see no reason why Mate 8 should be much different.
See how Mate 8 owners compare, once the phone is in your hands and rooted etc.
I run LeanDroid and Kinscreen, phone is rooted and Google de-bloated.
Here's where my Mate 7 was at this morning.
the biggest worry is as always the modem...they drain a lot battery.
not many people think about it since it is "hidden" statistics

The best apps for battery life?
Running on lenovo,Huawei mate 8,Note5, S6
Epic battery for me yesterday, first full charge, performance mode on all day, 19 hours up time with 6hrs39mins screen-on and 11% remaining when I turned in for bed. Looks like 7 hours screen-on over a full day should be doable, in a straight line I would think 8hrs+.
Similar again yesterday, 18hrs on battery, 5hrs 20mins screen-on, 23% battery remaining.

Your battery life does not say us anything unless you are using wifi or 3g/4g ?
you would see that in the mate 7 thread people using only wifi would get very superior screen on time while we normal people using 4G
would get more realistic battery life around 4-5 hours.
I hope you do not use wifi since that consume a lot less power as you might understand, and the modem
is a "hidden" battery drainer which is not shown in battery statistics ( I wish it did )
Mostly on WiFi, but if I contrast with other devices we can still make a meaningful comment.
My Note 4, in the same use, would not reach 4 hours of screen-on time. Neither would the 6P that I had. The P8Max would hit around 5 hrs.
So far the battery life here is best I have experienced on Android.

IF you have been using mostly wifi I would be little bit worried about the battery life when using 4G for data.
Also the software is still in early phase ..so big improvements can be made still in most areas.. battery life and camera etc.
battery life also depends on your usage pattern concerning apps. independent from wifi vs 3g/4g ull get far less SOT if u use cpu/gpu intensive apps all the time. so a direct comparison with other devices from the same user with identical usage patterns makes sense

Mind posting more screen shot of battery life of your usage? I am very interested. Battery chart + sot. Thanks.
I'm sure with time and people getting their hands on the phone, battery life will only improve. I avg 1d 4-5 hours with 6-8hr sot on my note 3 with 4g but the phone has been out for a long time
The Note 3 had pretty good battery life, from memory when I moved to Note 4 there was a reasonable regression there.
After a couple of charges and latest firmware update my battery life has been stunning. Yesterday/day before yesterday I went 36hrs on a single charge and had 6.5hrs screen-on. That's totally unprecedented on Android for me. Today I am down to 60% and have had 4.5hrs screen-on. For me at least is a new high bar for Android battery life.

Yesterday's battery report - 18hrs on battery, 7hrs20mins SOT, 17% remaining (another hour and a half or so or SOT for general use I would think). Indoors, WiFi, low screen brightness etc, but nevertheless destroying every other Android I've ever owned. Spent 50mins playing some emulator games towards the end - Wipeout Pure (PPSSPP) and Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (Gamecube game in dev build of Dolphin). They got the phone warm and were, as you would expect, much heavier drains than browsing and so forth (probably more so than higher end native Android games as they stretch the CPU as well). For those interested Path of Radiance played seemingly perfect for the first level proper of gameplay, overclock set to 0.2.

No, sorry if that was unclear, that's a change in Dolphin itself. I'm a bit in shock at how well Fire Emblem is running on a phone.

How many of you experiencing high android system battery drain?

While I'm waiting for my verizon s7 edge, I saw a lot of people post screen shot of s7 and s7 edge showing android system use battery over 20%. I just wondering if this is common problem or just happen to several users? This makes me really worry of my upcoming s7 edge.
I have that too. Don't see any issues with it but then again what do I know. Battery is really good still
I feel like it should be excellent.... we always pursue for better right? My nexus 6 is usually less than 5% for android system. Imagine if it's 5% how good the battery life would be.
Yes mine is the same which seems odd to me too. It should be the screen. Like angionicholai said though. Im still getting great battery life. But I would assume knocking down Android system would help a sizeable amount
Yes I certainly am and it's a little concerning but I'm not very worried. Batery life has been quite good and I'm assuming will only get better with OTA updates and our lovely dev's
I feel like every phone has a "catch all" that the basic phone operations fall under, as far as reporting battery drain. I don't think that the battery drain is higher than it should be for my phone, and my android system has shown as high as 36%. Even with that, the phone was still at 62% after moderate use at work all day (10 hours). That's better than any other android phone I've had. My V10 would have been around 20-30% after a day like that.
One thing I have noticed about this phone is that it doesn't sit at 100% for very long at all. Previous phones I've had would sometimes still be at 100% when I got to work in the morning. This phone is at 98% before I get to the car. I think it's all in the way that they report the percentage. This phone appears to be more linear, and other phones try to fake you into thinking the battery is going to last forever by making it stay at 100% for an hour or two.
Try to judge the battery life in a general, overall sense, instead of watching the draw of each application. See if that changes your opinion of the battery life.
Android system is taking up about 30% of my battery use. That's quite high. Strangely, I'm still very happy with my battery life. Probably because I haven't had a phone with a 3600 mAh battery before, and I'm getting 5 hours of SOT out of the box, without any attempt to save power. Plus my last phone was the S6.
Having said that, I might start experimenting with things to see if Android system can be tacked down. The list of processes running for Android system is quite long.
---------- Post added at 06:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:28 AM ----------
I should also mention that this drain doesn't seem to affect Marshmallow's doze feature. The battery graph flat-lines nicely when I'm not using the phone.
Android System is at 31% for me right now. Definitely the highest on any Android phone i've had. I'm just going to chalk it up to the phone settling in. If it is actually an issue, hopefully they'll address it with an update.
Run Ampre, what is the draw on the battery while it's idle?
Android system is 37% while Android OS is 19% and then Screen is 14% with 1 hour on. Phone has been off charger for 3:30 and is down to 83%. However if you factor the use out that would give me 20 hours and 37 min with 5 hours and 50 min of screen time. I just got the phone Tuesday afternoon so I am hopping after a couple more battery cycles this calms down.
Is it possible that everything was more efficient to drop the battery usage except android sysyem. This would result in a higher percentage showing but in turn its using the same amount as other phones. It would helpful to test of someone could post a picture of their android system usage when battery gets low.
Someone should create a Bugs and Issues thread. And maybe down the road add fixes.

It might also be helpful if we could compare end of day Android System battery consumption between the Exynos version and Snapdragon.

I'm on the S5 until my S7 edge comes in. I sometimes get high android system usage when there's background updates going on or after an OTA update for a few days. Usually it seems to resolve by itself. Maybe give it a few days and see if there's still high drain? Also could be a bug that will be worked out in an OTA update.
Mine has the same thing. I disabled everything possible and the idle drain is really bad. My 6P has system drain at 2% so there's clearly an issue here when my S7E has 30-40% system drain

I thought mine was contributed to the fact I use Adguard's VPN connection, so I didn't think much of it especially since I achieved more SOT than my Note 5 did by 1.5 hours. I typically get 5 to 5.5 hours of SOT.

It's the combination of the 10nm SoC with the 8 cores that does all the difference. Runs cooler and has 4 cores for both light and heavy task to distribute the load. That coupled with the software optimization makes it a battery sipper. If you think that's good wait until you see the pixel 2 with the SD 830. I'm sure it'll be phenomenal.
Quite the opposite experience for me with my S8+. Compared to my iPhone 7 Plus and my S7 Edge that I recently sold the battery is not good at all. I have had the phone for 3 days now and I am consistently ending my workday with less than 40% left on the battery (somewhere around 35%) with only 4.5h of SOT. I can see that there are processes that are draining the battery in the background, for example DeX which I had to force stop. Note that I am not using DeX and have never used it so I don't even know why the service would be running. My version is using the SD835 chip.

I am comparing it to my S7 Edge that was running the same Nougat OS and to my 7 Plus. Both achieve better battery life. I never went home with my S7 Edge with less than 50% battery. iPhone is generally around 65%.

The battery life on this phone is PHENOMENAL!

Guys I just got this phone through the Nexus 6p RMA I got a pixel xl 32gb and I just wanted to share something positive. Today using the phone for the first full day I got 7 hours of screen on time with 7 percent battery remaining. I'm shocked I've never seen better battery life or even close from any other phone. Nexus 6p in the beginning managed 5 hours sot sometimes but it degraded fast and pretty much got 4 or less for my 2 years with it so 7 hours is such a blessing. I love this phone.
I'll attach some pics I took before but didn't end up taking a picture at 7% but you can extrapolate from the photos.
Yes, but remember as a general rule it's a lot better when on wifi. It isn't as good on cellular only. Just a fact of life. I can get six+ hours SOT on wifi but only about five off it.
Good to hear...I did the same RMA.
Loving this phone. I can't believe it went under the radar.
I was using an iPhone 7 Plus...but can't see myself going back...that one might be for sale soon lol.

Ditto! RMA nexus6p for Pixel XL and it's battery and smoothness is awesome! ??
My 6P was so awful on battery I had chargers everywhere plus carried a big portable power pack.
With my new XL I have to remember Not to plug it in. Night/Day.
I am also a newer adapter of this phone and I've had it about 2 weeks. This is my battery life from 2 days ago with heavy YouTube usage. Rooted Oreo, no custom kernel, just greenify on a few apps. So much better than my Note 5, which topped out at 2hrs 50 minutes. Not to mention, this phone is way smoother and flies in terms of apps opening, really impressed with this phone.
Awesome.
Just found out that Facebook Messenger destroys battery life on Android..

Yes. The Pixel XL is by far the best battery life phone I have had in a long time (the previous champ was my the Samsung Fascinate 3G from years ago.)
On 7.1.2...freaking amazing battery life. Then I got the 8.0 update and that had lower battery life. Less screen on time. Many users reported this. Buddy of mine also had noticed the same thing.
The Sept 8.0 update then came out and now its back to the awesome battery life it had before.
As an aside. Where can I get a good tutorial on how to set up Greenify's treatment of the various apps on my phone? By itself, it's not immediately obvious what I should be doing to the various apps.

Why would u even want to use Greenify and such apps now?...O is far superior to previous versions with its Doze mode and app suspend processes..
Battery life is average at best, Still to beat my Nexus 6 or S7 Edge on MM here im getting a day or less standby with a meh 5hr sot

I didn't realize Oreo is so superior. In fact, I get worse battery life than I did on Nougat.

It was worse ...the first 8.0 update. The latest updates fixed that for me and buddy of mine. I read there was an issue with Google play services app older version eating battery. that updated with the last ota and its been great. I have very few apps on my phone though. i do know that FB and especially FB messenger...and probably many other apps are not quite optimized for Oreo yet and will eat battery in the background and its not shown in the battery stats. U can go into the system app settings now and disable certain apps to run in the background like FB. u wont get notifications for that app but i don't care, i manually check those apps fine.
Battery pretty good. Several times I tried going 24hrs starting at 100%. Essentially get 10hrs screen time over 24hrs with 10% to 15% remaining.

Forget the 6p. We had amazing battery life before this update. Then sot dropped like a rock. Screen off.. amazing. After O screen on time was half. Literally half. Same synching, same everything. Half sot! How else can I say it?

SOT sucks. I have it back up to 6.25 hours, but it's still not up to Nougat standards. It's either the increased performance sucking CPU or the screen itself is using more. I don't buy the updated apps for Oreo theory.

I also agree Oreo has horrible battery life not close no nougat. I have tried every kernel i could get my hands on.
I wonder if they did this crap on purpose so people would buy the pixel 2

Some have said it was Play services but others say no. Some have said it's the display driver on O. Either way I hope they come out with a fix if this is not some dastardly scheme. Very disappointing. I never had to charge my phone during the day and now I do. I was going to buy a 2 but now I'm on hold with that until this is fixed.
