Things I would like to have in S8 Plus / Note 8 - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello
I would like to have Incoming call display on Edge screen like i did on the Note Edge on side
I really Miss that
It is better than the full screen or top bar kind answering calls
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs-SP7sxZDA
What all would you like on S8 Plus & Note 8

I remember in the (I think) the S7, the edge display was used like a ticker that showed incoming calls, text messages, and so on. I could be wrong, but that would be great if that could be programmed in the S8/S8+

Just saw some videos, 6.4", 6gb & 256GB, exact specs as the MI MIX and hopefully those specs stay true.

Would love to hold out but too excited about the S8 plus. I should get good resale on it for when the Note comes out

I've cancelled my Bootloader locked T-Mobile order and will wait & see what the international variants have to offer. Or the Note 8 or Pixel XXL....

Unlocked bootloader...Done!

[Q] Undecided between Note 3 and Note 10.1

I currently own the Note 2 n7100, but today I saw Note 3 on display and played around with it. I was quite impressed by the screen quality and the new s-pen. That tip felt a lot better then Note 2's slippery plasticy one, and I actually enjoyed doodling some stuff with it.
I use my Note 2 mostly for sketching, watching movies, and reading some books.
But I want to know how the Note 10.1 2014's screen compares to Note 3's in terms of brightness, contrast, and clarity? and for watching movies in dark
If I buy the Note 10.1, I get to keep the Note 2 as well.
But if I buy the Note 3, I will have to sell my Note 2.
I don't have a Note phone, still on S3, no value added from me to your post. But 2 gadgets are better than one. Get Note 10.1, keep your phone.

The Note 10.1 is exactly like the Note 3 except bigger screen/resolution and can't call. You can also use the note 10.1 s pen on the Note 2. Therefore keep the Note 2 and get this tablet.

Yea, the screen looks like a larger, more higher resolution version of the Note III. It's beautiful. Like when your walking around the mobile phone displays at the store, the Note III's screen stands out above all the rest in clarity and detail. You can just instantly pick that one out over the others from a glance. Well, it's the same thing with the Note 2014, surrounded by all the other tablets it just makes you just stop and take a look at it because it's so clean.
Once I pick up my Note '14, I'll have exactly what you have. A Note II and a Note 2014. It's seriously the way to go in such a situation.
And personally, I never use my Note II's S-pen. It's hand cramp central writing with that thing, but writing on the 2014 in the store feels very comfortable because of the size of the device and placement of the hard buttons.
I also think note 2 + note 10.1 2014 is the way to go. For the uses you describe the tablet makes a perfect fit. IMHO the only real drawback of the note 10 . 2014 vs note 3 is the contrast ratio. But unless you vitally need very very deep blacks, this screen is gorgeous and... big
On the other hand, I think the tablet has better outside visibility, although I am not 100% sure about it
iiSo say we all!! from my SM-N9005

I think you only can't call from WiFi version, and that's SM-P6000
Own both in fact Samsung should give me a great customer loyalty rating because I own the Galaxy Gear too.
The Note 3, I use for phone calls, apps .... It is the device I always have with me.
The Gear, is a convenience get email in the meeting glance to the watch. Got myfitnesspal, and a few apps on my Gear. I love the device.
The Note 10.1 use for games such as Dead Trigger II, magazines, movies, browsing the problem with the Note 10.1 is being a tablet I am not always carrying it, also no LTE.
I have Note 3 and 2014. Perfectly happy and I use both A LOT.
But I would double check the S-Pen compatibility thing. Sometimes when I'm using both, I will use the larger 2014 S-Pen on the Note 3 and it works most of the time, but sometimes it doesn't. I don't think it's a phone issue because the Note 3's pen works flawlessly 100% of the time with its phone.
Having both, felt note 10.1 is a tone down note 3 with bigger screen without NFC & proximity sensor. I prefer note 3 as it more easier to bring out.
Its not the greatest for watching movies. I find that dark scenes in movies appear very washed out looking, almost like watching on an LCD TV, where there is some light bleed coming thru on the blacks. Just my opinion.

IPS LCD can't compete with the pure black of SAMOLED for watching movies in the dark. IPS will show black as grey.

Sounds like your best choice is keep the Note 2 and get the Note 10.1 2014 (Snapdragon 800).
I watch movies and shows on my Note 3. Nothing, in my opinion, can compete with SAMOLED for that. Work, etc. gets done on the 10.1, which is awesome for multi tasking and getting business done.
Thanks for all your input guys! This has been very helpful.
I will go for the Note 10.1 for now. And I will probably get the Note 3 next year after its price goes down a bit.
For movies, I'll have to stick with my Note 2 for the nice contrast.

Its Time to Sell Your Note 5

First of all Note 7 Is back now, Note 8 will be release in a few month
I bought note 5, 3 weeks ago but Im gonna sell it now and switch to S7 Edge

mate, How About Camera video Recording?
I watched lot of videos on youtube and sound like S7 edge with 12 Megapixel is better than Note with 16 megapixel? What do you think?
For me Camera is most imported.
Don't use camera recording so don't know but every day use not worth s7 edge

My wife has the S7 edge and I have the note 5. The S7 edge camera is definitely better but not by miles. I will say the Note 5 is much smoother. When messing with the wife's phone it has an occasional hiccup. I never get hiccups on the Note 5.

MP make no difference in quality and probably virtually impossible to replace the actual lens let alone swap it with an s7 lens plus alot more than a lens goes into quality. You can put a $10k lens on a $100 camera but doesn't mean you're gonna have $10k quality pics lol

I have both s-series and note-series phones i.e.S6 edge+, s7 edge and note 4-5..But as per my personal experience note series rocks over s-series...m using note 5 as my daily driver with nought port rom which is running buttery smooth than official nougat of s7edge...Battery life is bit less but compared to differences i.e.note5 with 3000mAh and s7edge with 3600mAh we can't just compare both phones straight enough but getting 4hrs of SOT which is enough for me..

the Note 7 is discontinued anything being sold under that name now is a refurb of the original model with a different battery. The Note 8 as of right now is an unconfirmed rumor (if anyone can confirm it please I would love a new model as I do love the note series of phones) what is being released in April is the S8

Question about note 8 over 8s plus

Hi guys I've had my s8 plus for around a month now and I've had the note series everyone (well note 1,2,3,4 we didn't get the rest over in the UK ) just a couple of questions on wether I should try sell my s8 plus or wait till next year
As I've read on most reviews most people are saying the note 8 is a s8 plus plus basically the same phone with a styles is that true?
I know it's slightly bigger display but is it any better then the s8 plus
Also the camera am I right in saying it has the same main camera as the s8 plus just the second lens allowes optical zoom and the whole portrait thing that's it?
So it should basically have similar picture quality to the s8 plus
Also silly question I cannot get my head around is the s8 plus technically 3k or is it still a 2k display
Thanks
note 8 is almost same as s8 plus
A little bit change in border radius + dual OIS Cameras
But it's not logical to pay extra 300$ just for camera
So in my case, I'll wait at least for s9

I would like to know if it's à good idea to switch from S7 to redmi note 7 And how is good thé Xiaomi in picture, screen, speakers, battery life, power compared to s7.
Thank you.
Didn't have an S7 but did have a Note 4 Exynos and Honor 8 before I got the Redmi Note 7phone.
Honestly, speed will probably feel about the same since S7 had the Snapdragon 820 processor.
Gaming performance will probably be about the same as well.
The screen isn't amoled so if that matters to you, you're probably better skipping the Redmi Note 7 and getting the Mi 8(snapdragon 845) or the newer Mi 9(snapdragon 855 with quad hd and dual speakers).
Either of those will definitely be an upgrade to your S7 in multiple ways...
Processor, functionality, performance, build quality, battery life, camera, gaming etc
Mi 8 can now be had for under $400 new as well if price matters to you
Thank you for responding.
My S7 is exynos one and I know that Mali GPU is more powerfull for gaming. S7 has à good display but it's too little and had burn in.
I want to know how is thé remdi's camera compared to S7 has a good One. My brother buyed à redmi Note 5 pro and S7 photos are much better

I'm not sure... S7 photos may be a little better since it was the flagship of the year a couple years back.
If you're worried about photos, I'd get the Mi 8 or if you can afford... Skip the Xiaomi budget line altogether and go straight for the The Mi 9.
Don't get me wrong... Redmi Note 7 or it's twin brother Mi 8 Lite are both spectacular phones especially for the money to value quotient. They pack a hell of a punch and are popular globally for a reason but coming from the S7, if you're not willing to compromise a little bit in the area of video and photo quality, you're better off shopping for a Xiaomi flagship.
Either phone (Mi 8 or Mi 9) is the flagship experience you want but the Mi 9 will blow you away and be the true upgrade you're looking for

I just got a Redmi Note 7 today, and it will replace a ZTE Axon 7 (Snapdragon 820, like the US version S7), so I'm in a similar position.
Haven't used it much yet, but initial impressions are very good. I just run some tests on both phones in Geekbench Pro, and the Redmi Note 7 won in some areas, while the Axon 7 still smoked it in some tests. You're right, the overall performance should feel pretty similar to the S7.
Benchmarks aside, I'm happy to have a new device that is fully up to date - stock Pie (that I'll dump in favor of LOS as soon as I'm able, haha), a big battery and efficient CPU, a really fast fingerprint scanner in a natural position (meaning NOT on the front), a big screen (any bigger wouldn't fit my pocket), VOLTE, a decent camera, and some support on XDA. It took me a while to decide to buy it because I was concerned about it not having an OLED screen but now I don't think it's going to be an issue - it looks good. Works with Mint Mobile (T-Mobile) here.
Only Day 1, but I'm satisfied so far, especially for $200!
RN7 is way better .. except for the sound quality and the weight (rn7 is heavy lol)
These guys have nailed it!
Think you'll be happy with the phone especially for the price.
I know I am.
Use it for a while.... If you don't like it, sell it for a more expensive flagship.
For me it's so good I don't feel the need to have a flagship phone anymore!
Just saw a review on Amazon with someone who mentioned they upgraded to the Redmi Note 7 from an S7 and raved about it.
Check out the review for the Blue 4GB RAM/64GB version.
It's one of the newer reviews.

I got it this morning and yes, the redmi is so heavy. Sound Quality is better on xiaomi but i was using dual speaker sounds on S7 wich makes a plaisent stéréo effect. Camera is a bit better on S7 Thanks to live HDR, dual pixel technology and à good noise réduction.

Yes Redmi note 7 is next level in term of screen size, entertaining purpose, everyday all around. Battery life 2 days on minimal use. Picture not as good as s7 edge
I replaced Huawei P10 whit RN7 and I'm surprised how better it is comparing to P10. Screen picture quality is way better and camera whit Gcam too. P10 have Leica lense blā, blā, but I don't like Leica look and that camera overexposes picture, loses detail in texture whit smoothing, makes picture to oversaturated and colors too neutral. RN7 whit GCam is neutral, exposes good and colors are good. If You like overprocessed pictures then You might want different camera app.
P10 is not S7, but I can say this phone is good. Only complains are weight, and writing is a bit hard for Me in position as I hold the phone. Of course there is minor things like screen is a bit less bright comparing to P10, plastic body, speaker can be more clear, still usb 2.0, no nfc, no IP rating etc. If You don't want to spend alot of money on phone as I do then this is solid choice. For that extra 250€ I would spend on phone I can buy alot of different things for Me.
Both my wife and I just bought the RN7 yesterday to replace both of our S7 Edge, personally I notice the screen resolution difference between the two, I miss the notifications staying at the top, miss the app draw and the camera start up speed is a lot faster than the RN7. The main reason why we switched though is the battery life, both of ours are the US version which use the Snapdragon CPU which only give us around 4 hr SOT, and I pretty much have to charge 2 or 3 times a day (yah on my phone all day long ) , now with the RN7, without doing anything, I just got 8 hr SOT with 10% left ....so yah wire free all day and way cheaper than a flagship Samsung, I know I can get over the cons very soon.

Plus we can help you negate some of the flaws
To get the original look with the added app drawer, install Poco Launcher from the Play Store and you're done with that part.
Screen res? Can you actually notice S7's higher pixels per inch count? Nothing to do about that though.
To overcome the lack of permanent notifications at the top, install Notch Test (Notifications for MIUI) and set up the position, give all permissions to the app, autostart, set battery restrictions to none, and lock it in the app switcher so MIUI can't kill it off. I have the icons position set to 215 from the left and 36 from the top. Works great and mitigates the issue completely (issue for those of us not coming from MIUI, accustomed to "permanent" notifications).
Camera start-up - nothing to do about that unless Xiaomi updates the firmware to do so. GCam takes even more to start, but the image it produces is more than worth the wait.

Trade S10+ for Op 7 Pro?

I want to trade my S10+ for OP 7 Pro.
The following reasons why I want to switch to Oneplus 7 pro are:
1. QHD 6.67" amoled all screen, vibrant big and bright all screen. Nearly as vibrant as Samsung's screen.
2. Camera best Oneplus have produced. Images sharp with good detail, really impressed. Obviously not as good as Samsung's but for me good enough. I'm not a massive picture taker or selfies person. 4k 60fps super stable.
3. Loud dual speakers, again this is top notch. Not as full or rich sound as S10 plus but it's darn close. Another surprise.
4. Triple SSS performance (coin that one) - Super smooth speedy performance. No strutting or freezing experienced as of yet.
5. Near stock firmware with a few Oneplus touches. Love it better then stock android a actually
6. Quick updates to latest Android software.
7. Pop up camera prefer it over the hole in the screen, use it unlock phone as it's a cool feature.
8. That damn 90Hz refresh rate, boy ow boy is it smooth. This has completely spoilt me, it's fluid.
9. Snapdragon cpu which is better than samsung's exynos.
Do you guys think is worth the switch or i should stick with S10?
I switched to the OP7T Pro for a while, here is my take :
1.OP has excellent screen
2.Installed GCam Arnova, amazing results
3. I prefer S10+ with Dolby Atmos, OP lacking bass
4. Triple SSS performance,YEP!
5. One Ui has so much more features, I'm a fan
6. No complaints there, updates are not a priority and S10+ will get android 11 and 12
7. Pop up camera is cool, punch hole is an eyesore
8. 90hz is amazing, that's what I miss the most but I'm ok with WQHD on S10+
9. Samsung's exynos is really well optimized now, I hope android 11 and 12 won't affect it.
I decided to stick with the S10+ for all the features Samsung offers, the list is infinite, great AOD, Dual Bluetooth, Onehand gesture...
OP7T Pro is a great phone, GCam mode is amazing and I miss 90hz screen.

Thanks for your opinion man, is very hard to choose because both got pros and cons.
I too will respond to each of your points and add my own at the end, my mom has a OP7Pro and I have a S10+, so I think I can give a pretty good viewpoint.
1. The color accuracy is amazing with DCIP-3 on OP, but the bigger screen makes it weigh more, so it is a little unwieldly at 6.67.
2. Comparing Google camera on OP to Samsung camera on s10+, s10+ has more detail, but colors are more accurate on OP. Low light and cameras other than the main one are way better on S10+
4. If you are a regular game player, then performance should be on the table but otherwise it is not noticeably different.
5. I am biased towards One UI, I had a pixel before it and I feel S10+ allows me to do much more with its syncing features with windows.
6. India version receives the latest security updates 3 days after pixel receive them, so I don't think this is an issue.
8 & 9 You've said it, can't argue here
I've left a few pointers because I don't have a view on them.
While the OP7pro looks flawless, I feel there are cost cutting measures, for eg., the top speaker grill and the sides of the screen collect much more dust than other phones.
Finally why I didn't go for a OP phone, It is owned by the same company that owns Oppo, OnePlus till now has been able to stave of influence from the chinese government. But given the recent news around the top management, I fear the worst.
Currently I would only go for either Samsung or iPhone (Not personally, it's something I would suggest). If you are in a one of the lucky areas, Sasmung has discounted S20+ to the price of S20FE. So that could be a great option too.
Even i am looking for a one plus 7 pro. The S10+ is superior in every way than the oneplus7pro except for the fact that it has a full screen display. However, no developments so far for the Snapdragon version of s10+ (bootloader unlocking ?). Even the s20 snapdragon edition is starting to get development.
Might be because in order to bootloader unlock a U.S. snapdragon S10, you have to pay for it. I could be wrong but it seems the lack of development is because only like 3 people have had theirs unlocked.
