global equalizer and sound settings - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I looked at a G6 on display and I love it. Only thing that troubles me is I can't find the global equalizer and sound settings like the Galaxy S7 has. Is there not a eq that works for everything? That's one thing i hated about my iphone when I had it was listening to pandora or spotify with no eq. flat and boring. I know there's 3rd party Eq's but they're not reliable. For example i put one on my Nexus 7 and now it doesn't work. It shows it's on but it does nothing. the sound sucks. When I had One M7 I had the same problem. the 3rd party EQ apps would only work half the time.
So does the G6 have a global EQ?

Does that require rooting my phone? I don't know how to root the phone and on Verizon the bootloaders are always locked last I heard. I'm not comfortable with rooting plus when Verizon does tech support they connect to the phone remotely and check the settings and I'm afraid they would see the root and void my warranty.

No root, just install musicfx.apk and the EQ settings will show in Google music settings.

I was confused because it says: "In order to install it as a system app, you'll need a root-capable file manager, like ES File Explorer, which is what I use."

It needs root coz you need to install it as a system file. No root yet achieved for g6.

I can't get it to work. I even tried to copy it in the system folder but it said something like I don't have write access. What do I do now for a global eq?
Sent from my VS988 using Tapatalk

Just install the apk like any other app and thats it, the eq options will appear in spotify, google music, etc... mine is working fine and with eq settings+highfi dac is amazing

Working pretty well to me, but only on Google Music and Spotify, I cannot use it on the default music app, but this has his own eq BTW.
Enough to me by now... Hope we'd be able to be root on the H870DS soon....

Hello again...
Just my two cents...
The musicfx.apk on the link before doesn't work well. You cannot make a custom equalization. But if you use the musicfx.apk from the OP5 thread It will work pretty well...
Here is the link:

Anyway, I've ported to Equalizer FX, because it has a better performance for me... You can check it if you want...

I gave up on DSP Manager after it never seemed to play music via the right profile (eg, bluetooth headphones would often be played with the "speaker" profile, or other shenanigans)
Then I discovered Vipers Audio! And never looked back... (I have this running on my Note 3)

Wow thanks for the prompt reply dude. I agree Dsp isn't perfect, but it would help compared to stock, it's really awful imo.
So, in your experience has Viper improved the external speaker experience? I'm not so fussed with the 3.5, it's the external sounds that are bugging me.
Thanks

I haven't used it for the external speaker (but it supports this, just as DSP Manager does), but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you were to try it.
FYI: I use the "Lock effect mode" to force my Bluetooth audio profile onto all audio outputs, works a charm.

Yes, you need root to complete the install. It goes something like this: install it like a normal APK, open it, it will ask for root privs, once granted, it will autoinstall the audio driver, and then all you need to do is restart. Job done!

Just a thought tho - the Note 3 external driver is small, doesn't it distort easily driving bassy beats?

Yeah, heres my profile I use: *lots* of bass via the Dynamic Subsystem module, EQ that brings out the highs, and the "Extreme Headphone V1" listening device.
The profile files go under your SD Card under the viper4android/profiles directory (if the folder doesn't exist, try saving a profile first to autocreate it)

Dude.....seriously?
Bass is driven by the amount of air the driver can push - Base is omni-directional (i.e.you feel it rather than hearing where it's coming from) so it doesn't really matter where you put your bass unit from a surround sound setup.
If you think the external speaker is going to give ANY sort of bass, you're seriously misguided, sorry!
If the frequency is too low then the unit just won't play it, that's why speakers have a frequency range.

[Mod] Enable Digital Dolby

Hey guys im not sure if this has been posted here yet, but I can't find it so i thought I would do a write up.
This mod enables Digital Dolby effect in the stock music player.
Must be rooted.
Not responsible for broken phones..
1. In your root browser navigate to device/etc/com.lge.music.xml
2. Scroll to audio_effect data=
3. Now change the value FROM "lgeffectwithcustom" TO "dolby"
4. Save and restart
5. Go to music player and now you are able to select Digital Dolby from the effects list.
Thanks bro. Sounds good I like lol
wow GREAT mod, now if I could just get a dark version of the stock LG music app.
does doing this add the "digital dolby" option, and keep the "custom" option? or does the "digital dolby" option replace "custom"
It just adds custom is still there.

Serious Simple Audio Improvement (?)

Ok I'm an audiophile musician, as many of you I think
and, though stock audio just works I'm trying to look at audio mods here
I looked in many threads and I can see that ARISE is very well known, supported and loved, but looks like is very customizeable and confusing....
dolby atmos in apps section doesn't work well, it lowers volume and...well, I can't feel any improvement
viper4android should be nice, but I never tried it
now...what are you using? things that work nice and stable, with quality enhancements....don't need thousands of profiles or eq since I'm a big fan of flat sound (the way is meant to be listened)
Thank you for your attention, once we'll have some satisfactory answer I'll make a poll and a general AIO audiophile thread with all working options as referral.
EDIT: ARISE audio system simple guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/r-s-e-sound-systems-auditory-research-t3379709
go to this thread, don't be scared, just search for lastest deuteronomy zip and flash it
you will find a nice app called viper4arise that will let you manage settings separately for every audio output with simple and nice UI
you can also import presets and plugins, but it's secondary.
Im going to tune in on this. Would like to install ARISE on my nexus (comes with Viper4Android) but there are so many versions to choose from, it gets a bit confusing.
Any tips on which ARISE works for our phone on 7.1.1 ?
ARISE is the right answer. It's customizable for true audiophiles but simply flashing it seriously improves audio quality without you having to tweak anything. Seriously. I know there are several zips for ARISE. Just make sure you get the most current stable release (Deuteronomy 2.3.3) and I usually go for the smallest zip file because I don't need all of the extra stuff like Dolby Atmos and whatnot. It comes with a modified version of the Viper4Android app that allows you to tweak settings to your liking. The app, by default, is setup for novices or people that don't need to get too specific with any settings so you can boost bass, enable clarity options, spectrum extension, etc. by toggling the switch next to it. Simple as that.

so. you suggest to flash deuteronomy (lastest) and...just that? what about plugins, the prop editor that comes with hell of documentation...profiles and stuff...none of that?
if you're sure it works, is stable enough, simple and it has graphic (not text editing or changing files on system) settings through an app....I'm going to test it right now....

I never did any of that. I just flashed, booted up, went into the ARISE V4A app and toggled the options I wanted. There was an immediate difference in audio quality. You can toggle the options while playing music and hear the difference.
EDIT: Oh. Make sure to disable MusicFX or whatever that nonsense is. Settings > Apps > Show system apps > MusicFX and disable.

Really depends on what you're playing the music on. I usually enabled Spectrum Extension (0.4 strength) as a lot of my music is 320kbps MP3 and Bass Boost (default settings) for Bluetooth and Headset (3.5mm jack) while enabling "Speaker Optimization" for the speaker. I mainly use the bluetooth audio in my car and while my car stereo isn't that great but I did throw some Kickers in the front doors. Spectrum Extension is awesome, but make sure to disable it if you're listening to any FLAC files.

I really only listen to music through headphones/AUX in the car so I edited some of those to the audiophiles info in the post. I turned on the spectrum extension and will see how I like it since it's all streamed from spotify (no flac).

Because it interferes with ARISE / V4A. If you're completely stock with no audio mods there's no point to disabling it.

Equalizer won't work in many cases

Hello, I've got a new Moto G4 for christmas and I'm really enjoying it, except for one thing => the equalizer :/
- (Android 6.0.1 - all available updates done - no Root) -
So here's what I already did :
Disable from "app" in settings the default "Audio Effects" then installing a new one => the new EQ says that I already have one EQ installed and don't work
If I do the same as before then restart, the new EQ work... but only for Spotify :/
reinstalling the new EQ without restarting don't do anything
[edit] The stock EQ don't work at all
I don't get why it won't work :s I really hope you can help me <3
Thanks for your time, *cough* sorry for the grammar if I made any errors *cough* and merry christmas =3
Hello, but what is the equalizer app name? the stock equalizer works?
Happy new year
Hi :3
I tried these two equalizers (the first ones when you look for "equalizer" on googe play)
Equalizer + Player Volume Boost
Equalizer
And right, I forgot to talk about this x) ... the stock equalizer don't work at all :c

The stock works fine for me, by the way, i have tried the second, and works well, even appears the message of "disable audio effects", but works very well, i have disabled the audio effects, rebooted my phone, "enable auto preset detection" is turned off, tried with poweramp and google play music, whit headphones. But you don't notice any improve?
I just tried with Poweramp and your equalizer, while disabling the default one : the EQ spectrometer (or what it is called ) move, it detect the sound but when i choose a profile or anything, nothing change, the audio stay the same.
Maybe I should already think about doing a hard reset ? ^^'

Sorry, where do I see if poweramp recognize it ? :s

[edit2] And the Moto G4 bass are nice *w*
I'm bumping this thread (yes, it's not allowed but, but... :c ), it's been one month and I didn't solve this problem :/
There's nothing new btw.
Thank you again, whoever can help me, have a nice day/evening :3

Is there a way to install the Dolby EQ without root?

From what I have read, it looks like root might not be required for the Dolby Atmos software. I really like that EQ. I have a T-Mobile S8+ with locked bootloader, so I am hoping there is a way to install the Dolby software without root. If anyone knows if this is possible, instructions and a link to the latest version would be appreciated, as there are a lot of different versions floating around.
any updates for Dolby atmos on any android no root required?
I had it installed in my Galaxy S8 T-mobile but it makes no difference. In fact, it only gives it s deep base but not a loud sound.
This is how it works :
Once installed, just open Samsung music or Google music and a pop up window will show up saying that dolby atmos is running in the background. I tried it but didn't like it. You can try and maybe works for you. Here is the app.
Works... sort of

Installed on my Galaxy S8 SM-G950FD there's no way to configure it though cause the equalizer option still only brings up Samsung Sound Alive. Is there a way of getting rid of sound alive without root? Any updates on this? The built in Samsung EQ is complete garbage. The Dolby EQ significantly improves both the sound and the level.
Isn't there a way to give specific apps root access via ADB without actually rooting the phone?

Yup that worked, do you know of a way to reinstall SoundAlive? I found that Dolby doesn't really suit me, and trying to install the SoundAlive APK through 0ackage installer results in the 'app not installed' message, and through ADB in error 3001
