Dolby Atmos unable to fully function as desire on my Zte Axon 7 Mini. - ZTE Axon 7 Mini Questions & Answers

I think it is the biggest concern regarding Dolby setting wont remain as it should be after adjust set to full performance especially on the treble point. Something that we pay for nothing over stupid Dolby company. Unless someone can help with that and would be much appreciate. Thanks.

Well, depends on headphones (bad idea to hear kind recordings via phone-speakers, though it sounds better than usual). I had better sound quality on my prev phone with root and Viper4Android (and i'm w8ing it for my axon 7 mini), but anyway as for me - dolby atmos works good. Ofc it is more powerful for 6ch ac3 audio, but even with stereo it works good.
I pref jazz, orchestral and piano music. My Dolby settings: Auto Volume, Voice correcting (idk how it named in english version), equalizer +1(2) -1 0 +1 +2(3). Headphones Marshall Monitor.

Improving music sound quality on Lollipop. Viper4Android , extremebeats etc

I was just wondering if people could comment on how they are getting the best sound quality on their s5.
I generally find it sounds a bit lifeless on bluetooth in my car compared to my iPhone the same bluetooth with the same songs so i've been looking to tweak it.
From what I can tell there two popular ways to improve it.
Viper4Android ( requires SElinux mode to be set to Permissive)
Extremebeats, also needs V4A to work properly? not entirely sure it does anything different to V4A on its own?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2634729
What I don't get is Extremebeats claims to support clear audio, SRS wow etc, but they are all different technologies, how can it use them all at once?
The V4A profiles don't seem to mention SRS wow etc at all?
What do you guys use?

Lg g2 audio hardware&soft

Dear friends. After one month of research and trying to get everything from my d802 in the field of audio, I need some advise from someone who knows something about Android development.
At the beginning I want you to know what i want to get from my device - I want to get ultimate support for 24/192(which is supported by hardware) without resampling to 48 khz which is provided by Android as I know before. The reason I confused about it is that developer of neutron player said that the neutron can't use audio hardware because it doesn't have system rights so only system music player can use audio hardware. So I decided to use CyanogenMod and extreme beats audio mod. Of course with neutron player (settings maximally turned off) and this time I decided to use my player ++, cause it use ultimate quality resampler that called Sox. And it has a hardware decoding tick. I liked more sound from my player(Msr 7 headphones), with ultimate quality of resampling set in settings and with equalizer turned off. The same settings are on neutron. So I need your advise - how can I check when the player give me the quality because of it's software resampler and when it gives me quality because of my hardware. I know that in case of g2 hardware said too loud because it use wolfsoon wm5110 but I can a lot. I want to get everything it can.
Please tell me the ultimate decision in my case.
I wanted to publish it in android dev, but I'm new here.
LG G2 does not use Wolfsoon DAC but it use Qualcomm WCD9320

As you said Google resampòe to 48 khz so there is no way, sound 24 khz will be resampled. Even PowerAmp last beta (that uspport Hi-Res audio output) can do more to change this behaviour

It's a wrong way of thinking.
PowerAmp isn't the best decision for hi-fi sound.
There is a way to breakdown downsampling.
And i think, that ainur audio mod has already done it. But i'm not sure.
Anyway, downsampling isn't a problem today.
Just need to find some software decision to breakdown this wall. And i think, that aforemantioned mod made cyan 13 to use hardware of my g2.

The ZTE Axon 7's audio

Hello,
So I'm using the Axon 7 for a few days now and I'm really happy with this device so far.
I listen to music quite a lot myself with Spotify Premium (Extreme Quality) and I do believe that the non-rooted stock Axon 7 ROM provides amazing sound already.
On my previous devices I'd have to unlock the bootloader(, disable system write protection), root and install Viper4Android to get similar audio quality.
I guess I could improve the sound quality even more with Viper4Android now but I don't want to mess with my phone and warranty yet.
There seem to be four audio settings this phone can have on the stock ROM without root:
(1) Dolby Atmos
(2) Headset Standard Hi-Fi audio
(3) Headset Super audio
(4) Nothing? Default?
So I'm guessing the audio settings work like this (excluding sound being played from a Bluetooth device because I don't have such device so I don't know):
(a) Is Dolby Atmos enabled?
Yes, phone uses (1).
No, go to (b).
(b) Is the sound being played through the phone's built-in speakers?
Yes, phone uses (4).
No, go to (c).
(c) So sound is being played from the 3,5 mm audio jack. Is Headset Super audio selected in 'Sound and Vibration' in the phone's settings?
Yes, phone uses (3).
No, phone uses (2).
My opinion when using the:
- phone speakers, the audio sounds better with Dolby Atmos disabled. (Maximum volume seems higher with Dolby Atmos disabled too)
- 3,5 mm audio jack, the audio sounds better with Dolby Atmos enabled with speakerboxes/headphones/earphones.
- 3,5 mm audio jack with Dolby Atmos disabled, the audio sounds the same when comparing Super audio with Standard Hi-Fi audio with speakerboxes/headphones/earphones. (Super Audio is much more amplified though)
Maximum volume differences in my opinion (bigger = louder):
With phone's built in speakers: Nothing/Default > Dolby Atmos
With 3,5 mm audio jack in use: Super audio > Dolby Atmos > Standard Hi-Fi audio
So I wonder what the real difference is between Super audio and Standard Hi-Fi audio except for the amplification.
It would be nice if someone who knows about this could explain me
It seems that Dolby Atmos doesn't work together with the Super audio/Standard Hi-Fi audio settings.
So you can only use one of the three at a time with a headset for instance where Dolby Atmos overrides the Super audio/Standard Hi-Fi audio setting.
I'd love to see some combination like Dolby Atmos + Super audio purely for the amplification only.
And I wonder how the independant dual Hi-Fi chips work like.
Why 2 chips? Is it 1 for audio output/playing and 1 for audio input/recording?
Or maybe 1 for the right audio output channel and 1 for the the left audio output channel?
Do(es) the chip(s) work for all audio output options?
So do(es) the chip(s) work for the phone's built-in speakers as well as for the 3,5 mm audio jack output?
I know this phone is capable of recording in Hi-Fi quality but is that also true if a microphone is connected through the 3,5 mm audio jack?
I don't know so much about the purpose of the independant dual Hi-Fi chips really...
I guess I'm not really the only one wondering about these things or the only one being interested in these things, so if anyone could clarify it, well that would be great!
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Abiram26

Correct.

Probably ZTE use 2 DACs because they haven't found single ADC chip in AKM list or wanted to provide less power consumption solution too.

Regarding different amplification between Super audio and Standard Hi-Fi. I think it is due to only one reason. It indicates that user did change something otherwise no one can hear the difference under normal noise circumstances listening average quality music. There is no technical reason at all.
I am wondering also about the :
- "standard" Hi-Fi
and
- "super (as in superior) enhanced audio performance" Hi-Fi
I think its more than amping ...the soundstage open up. DSP? 32 bit resample?

Android 8.1, LDAC, AptxHD , V4A, ARISE and other findings

Hello,
So based on my request for help in the following thread, I was initially trying to setup ultimate audio experience with ARISE (not only V4A) to run on stock 8.1 (Mar 18 updates). However after numerous tricks and ways to make it work , i reliazed its not possible for now. I also came to know that V4A and Atmos dont live together well and Atmos overrides the sound processing by V4A, which has to be manually reactivated time and again.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/guide-ultimate-audio-battery-guide-t3727124
I reverted to Android 8..0.0 (Oct 17) and then following the guide in this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/guide-how-to-install-arise-sound-8-0-t3692415
I was able to install V4A , Dolby Surround to work together (Arkamys , A3MD crash repeatedly and ICESound breaks the sound at all from speaker or headsets, didnt find a solution for it so far).
One of reasons for me to try Google Pixel with 8.+.+ was to try the new (supposedly) hi resolution bluetooth codecs namely AptxHD and LDAC (a Sony version of Hi-res audio protocol).
Being an amateur audiophile, I bought Sony Wh1000MX2 which supports both LDAC and AptXHD.
A finding which I made was when I paired the XL with Sony Headphones using LDAC, the audio quality was good, however I wanted to make it better by activating V4A and Dolby Surround audio mods. After fiddiling for a couple of hours, I realize V4A and Dolby does not work or recognized the sound output when the headphones were connected using LDAC. It was seen as the V4A driver status showed "Abnormal" and no "Processing" was done. However with the same setup as soon as I changed my bluetooth audio connection to use AptxHD , the V4A and Dolby started working and sound was equally superb with the added value of tuning it more to my taste using the audio mod.
I am not sure why the audio mods are not bluetooth connection protocol agnostic, or why not working with LDAC.
Shared it for information, maybe the gurus would be able to reproduce the setup and post a working solution.
Thanks.
Hi, same problem here. I have a pair of Sony MDR 1000x Bluetooth cans with ldac support. Flashed my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x to LOS unofficial Oreo to get the ldac codec going (it works indeed), but v4a does not work with this codec. If I choose the SBC codec, it apears to at least realize that it can do something (although changeing effects dosent work). With ldac enabled v4a driver status says abnormal and obviously nothing works. All in all I guess that we cant do anything other than wait, so that some devs will adopt to the new features of Android Oreo.
Hope for the best
PS: sorry for possible spelling mistakes
edit: if someone needs logs, im happy to provide them.

Not the type to necro old threads, but I believe I've found the solution to your problem. I had this problem myself on my V30 and realized what was making Viper effects not processing. LDAC by default starts off with an audio sample quality of 96 kHz and 32 audio bits per sample. If you can change these settings in developer options, lower the sample rate(sample quality) to 44.1 kHz - the rate used for 90% of all music & audio and the bits per sample to 24. Viper audio effects should work now with LDAC. You will have to do this every time you turn on/pair your headphones to your phone.
Ypu can use James DSP for ldac codec with any sample rate and bits per sample. James DSP has a magisk module and can be installed from magisk.

how to get sound better?

Hi guys.
A friend of mine who is good into sound stuff, headphones ,dacs etc recommended me this phone just so I can get better sound over bluetooth and other wired headphones.
I used S7 edge with some average bluetooth buds and got average sound.
Now I got this device,in used condition and I think I have even worse sound then with my S7 edge.
Dolby Atmos is enabled and I'm on Android 7.1.
I expected even better sound over speakers, which is nice but kinda lacks a lot of bass, and sound stages.
Even speakers on my tablet Samsung S5e are way much better in sound.
Yeah sound is nice with my Beyerdynamics MMX300 Gen 2 but so is the sound with them on my S7 edge.
I mean I am not impressed at all with this phone so I thought to ask, maybe I need some other ROM,software etc, huh?
Help is appreciated.
I use mostly average quality bluetooth earbuds, and listen to trance music.
I can name the devices if it's important.

Honestly audio quality over 3.5mm jack is so good on this phone that I still havent found a successor to it. Using it as my daily. In order to get best audio follow this:
First disable Dolby Atmos. It really does not improve the sound, more the opposite. Then check in Audio / HiFi settings that "Super" mode is activated. This will enable AKM4490 chip.
Bluetooth Audio depends on your buds and not your phone. Just make sure in developer options that best available codec is activates. On Sony buds you can enable LDAC (needs Andrioid 8.0 or newer) to get best quality. But no bluetooth buds can match the quality of 3.5mm jack on this phone.

I mean I do get good sound over 3.5mm...I thought I will get great sound as well over BT.
All this above is already preconfigured.
Since I purchased used phone, when I plug in headphones into 3.5mm jack, thouse don't go all the way in like on other phones where I can simply feel when the 3.5mm connector goes all the way in.
I suppose I were wrong reagarding bluetooth sound since I mostly use bluetooth headphones.
But thx for help.
