Hey I have a noob question - what's the point of this thread when this section is about questions?

Hi
The Q/A section is for questions, sure! But newbies create individual threads for asking noob questions. Is it not better to create one single thread where noob questions can be posted? Also, every thread created by a newbie doesn't always get answered, creating garbage in the Q/A section. In such cases, I've seen some members creating duplicate threads with the same question but a different thread name. Thought it would be better to create a place where they can at least have hopes to get answers.

Well I'll post here for the meantime, hopefully someone answers so i don't have to create a new thread.
Does the S8/S8+have replaceable/removable batteries?
Pull the battery, put in another. So on, so forth.
Monty informed me that all is well on the property
Thanks in advance.

No, not removable. Unless you unassembled the phone...

Samsung hasn't done removable batteries since the S6... and considering all the major manufacturers have made the decision to go the sealed batter route, at least on the high-end market, I don't see removable batteries coming back. :/
It's not AS bad if you plan on changing your phone every 1-2 years, BUT for those who keep their phones for 3+ years, it's a concern. However, most people seem to be on that 1-2 replacement cycle, so manufacturers go with the majority, vs the small subset of people who keep their phones for an extended period.

OK so I've had all the nexus phones since the GNex (except the 5X) and have been happily rooted and flashing ROMS, but I'm a noob as far as recent Samsung's go.
Today I impulse ordered a UK Snapdragon S8 (The device is EPIC in hand)..... What's the likelihood of root & custom roms happening? this could honestly make or break me taking delivery of the device

I presume this isn't multiuser, unless Samsung have changed approach. How do we make it so?

Good evening all,
I'm really excited about getting the S8 plus in a few weeks!! but I have a question, as I have had my brain numbed by the one for all iOS I have lost all knowledge of android and apps that are a must.
with my older android handsets i always had a file manager app that I can't remember what I used for but just know it was one first apps i installed. Anyone got and must haves for the latest android OS?
Running

Hi,guys recently got the s8plus i with like to know how much battery life gets saved by using power saving mode on is it major or less?and which one do you use,and also if using a darker theme saves more battery

You can download kidsmode, which can set the phone into limited access environment for children. Also you can use Knox or use secure folder to set separate account with restricted access. But in personal device like a phone, most people carry in their pocket I don't see much demand for full multiuser setup similar to one on PC.

Phone comes preloaded with Facebook, Youtube and a whole Google set of apps. There are few file managers in Play store like ES file manager or Total Commander, but that's a personal preference. You may want to have something for backup, like Titanium, or PhoneInfo for information or 3C Toolbox for details on hardware settings etc. But IMO there is no must have APP, it all depends on your particular use and interest.

How waterproof can it be?
It is there any method to clean the ports of the phone after sea water and sand?

Stupid questions?
Never used Android (iPhone users since day one).
Really want to move to Android while my friend wants to move to iPhone. So we can trade our phones.
She has S8 with T-Mobile (the phone is unlocked because she purchased it) and I have 7plus with Verizon.
She is willing to move to Verizon so my phone is perfect for her.
I read that her S8 can be flashed so it would work on Verizon.
Questions:
1) where can I obtain steps by steps to this procedure?
2) Functionally, is there anything Negative of flashing a TMobile to Verizon? One of my co-worker stated that you can't auto upgrade on the phone firmware down the road and there are glitches.
3) Is this the same as ROOT?
Thank you for your expertise.

After accepting the July security update from Tmobile, long pressing my home key no longer launches Google Assistant, Just Brings up Google Now. What gives?

Shutter Sound on the Unlocked Version of the Galaxy S8
Hi everyone. Noob to this forum and this is my first post.
My question is regarding the shutter sound on the camera. I have the US unlocked version of the phone (not carrier unlocked). I've made tinkers to it already (disabling permissions, etc.). But I noticed the option to turn off the camera's shutter sound is missing. Not sure if this is due to me tinkering or if the option is not even available on the unlocked version.
I went to Verizon today to play with their version, and it has the option to disable the sound.
Can anyone confirm that the stock unlocked version of the S8 indeed doesn't come with the option to turn off the shutter sound? I was going to do a hard reset to see if maybe I discabled something by accident, but would rather not go through the hassle of reconfiguring my device all over again.
Thanks in advance!

hi guys... i am really confused which phone to get. confused btw oneplus5 and S8. can you guys give your opinion on the S8 so it helps me to choose?
the only thing oneplus5 has better for me is the battery life and dual camera. how is the battery life for s8? how much screen on time are you getting with heavy usage?

Hello every one.
I own a french Galaxy S8 bought with SFR (a french carrier).
After certains phone calls (Voice mail, Customer Services) and if the other person hangs up ok google is not reconized anymore.
I tried to flash other firmware, reset the phone, unistall google, clear google data but that's not helping at all.
The only fix is to kill google app via the setting but it's stop working as soon you do a "bad" phone call.
My girlfriend's S7 have the same problem...
The only solution I found is to install newer versions that i can't find in the playstore of google app, play store and google play services taken form apkmirror. The issue is still here but I have to do more calls to trigger it. Strange fact but the last beta of the google app works worse than the previous (behave like the play store version).
I thought turning off the wifi will help because my S8 and my girlfriend S7 have this in common but it doesn't help.
I'm very perfectionist so i had search this issue from weeks but no solition found.
Sorry for my english, I'm French.
Any ideas ?
Have a nice day.

Follow this guide here for steps to flash TWRP first. Follow it EXACTLY step by step and you will have no issues.
After TWRP is fully flashed correctly amd you can boot into TWRP then flash magisk v13.3 from here

Again, follow all steps EXACTLY as they are posted and you should have no issues

New Xoom User

Hey, I just picked up my Xoom from Futureshop yesterday. I am in Canada and it is the WiFi only version.
I see there are many threads on Rooting and all that good stuff. My issue like always is there is too much information. I can never find what I want, or be 100% sure it's what I need.
So my first question is, is there a point to rooting the Xoom right now? Are there any useful and good ROMs for it yet? What other reason should I do it, I have rooted and installed ROMs on my Desire for ever now and the only benefit I see is the ROMs and a couple apps, yet I think I am missing a point lol
Second, for my North American (Canadian) WiFi only Xoom, which rooting steps and files do I need/follow? Thanks
Thirdly, excluding the Google applications and Games (because I already have them) what are some apps that support tablets currently? Also, what cool things are you doing with your Xoom?
Thanks.

This thread is definitely in the wrong section!
But I'll answer the first question:
The main reason I rooted was to overclock to 1.5 GHz. I also did it because I know that eventually I'll want to try out a custom ROM or run some other SU apps somewhere down the road. I also wanted USB host capabilities. As far as I know though, there aren't any custom ROMs yet, but there is a custom kernel, Tiamat. I haven't tried it yet, because I've been content with the stock OC kernel.
Oh crap, yea I didn't notice I was still in this section. Sorry, please move MOD.
Thanks for the reply. Overclocking eh? Will that destroy my CPU/device quicker or any other bad side effects?
And link to do that with my version?
Moved to general.
Generally, 1.5 GHz seems to be tolerated very well by the majority of XOOMs. If you notice random pauses, lockups, or restarts, tone it down a little bit.
You will likely notice a little additional battery drain, but as long as you're not on "performance" governor in SetCPU, you'll be fine for the most part.

Screenshot ER is a good reason Lets you take screenshots (no kidding!) without adb. I also have some other apps that need root like Root explorer.
EDIT: You might also want to ask: Why should I NOT root? Sometimes it helps to see both sides but I haven't found any disadvantage.
Ok, so I found this thread which seems to be my model.

Thanks
One Click Root
The is pretty much the easies way to root your xoom. A one click method, and also unroot it back to stock if anything need to be done, like take it for repair to motorola or the upgrade for lite. It works for both wifi only and 3G. Just make sure you click the correct method for your kind of device.
There is also videos out there on youtube and google with it being done, that's how I got mine done. And more of a visual guy.
Here is the link from here on XDA, good luck. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011196
Here is a link to the video I use, these guys have videos on both rooting and unrooting, enjoy fellow Xoom. http://theunlockr.com/2011/03/30/how-to-root-the-motorola-xoom-wifi-or-3g-one-click-method/
Well there we go! lol
Thanks a bunch.
I assume once I am rooted I just install that SetCPU app and play with it?
Best reason to root? Ad-blocking hosts file!
same thing here...wifi only in canada. I used one-click root ... click ok like 15 times and you're done!
one click rooting, nice! I'm new to all this rooting stuff........so that might just push me over the edge!
Other than ad blocking, not really. I haven't root'd mine.
Sent from my Captivate
Yea the part that gets me is the ability to unroot and put back to stock, just in case I need my warranty.
yeah the ability to unroot is the best thing since the xoom. Lol. Cuz you can always go back to original. Just a side note be very careful with that setCPU' it can be useful, and hurtful.the xoom is fast already, but. I mean as other have said, it is safe to an extend, but I would keep it that hight. One becauxe of battery life, and two because it could become an issue. I think if it was totally safe to clock that might, motorola would have been the one to do so, and would have put this device out the as having a 1.5Ghz processor. So just be careful, and as soon as you notice anything not right or normal, head for the door. Lol. (Go back to stock)
A-men.

I also bought my xoom at future shop. I used that link above to root my xoom and now im overclocking as well.
Do rooting enable the "Market Enabler" app?? and if the answer is yes, do this app fix the problem of the missing apps by hacking the market provider to [US] Verizon??????
It needs root and busybox. Basically, it lets you set your carrier to any carrier you like to fool the market.
It is often used by people who's countries don't provide market access.
Since I don't have a XOOM yet I can't vouch for its functionality on there but I don't see why it shouldn't work.

only 3g
I believe the above comment is correct. And as a side note I think the above app is only going to work with the 3G Xoom, not the Wifi only version. Because of the celluler radio. I have heard that both the wifi and 3g have a radio, because even the wifi version has a sim card slot, due to it being combine with the micro sd card. If this proof to be true, it could be a good deal for use with the wifi only. Cuz that means I pay $200 less. And if it is there, motorola will likely not make it active. But then once the codes are release, folk on XDA will make that dream a reality.
Don't count on that slot working on the wifi model. The important hardware like the radio will likely not he there.
The only reason the slot is there is because its combined with the SD slot and it would be costly and pointless for them to source an alternative socket just for the wifi model.

About to get an atrix, Any suggestions?

i'm probably going to get an atrix tomorrow and wondering what the first thing i should do as soon as i open the box. i'm not a 100% android noob. i have rooted and flashed my galaxy tab and I9000m and understand the basics. but i have a few questions like
- Can i Disable Moto Blur or should i?
- is rooting the same as most other devices, debugging mode/super one click etc?
- safe apps to freeze with titanium backup(list or link)
- is 2.3 coming or is it already out?
- is it worth it or should i wait?
- other personal problems or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
- not too important but how are the stock headphones? is there a remote similar to HTC and Iphone or no?
- and call quality through them if known would be nice too.
- and can i use any 3.5mm headphone or is it specific to moto?
Thankyou

I can answer some of these but not all as I'm sort of a n00b.
Is rooting the same? Yes, pretty much.
2.3 out? It's not out yet, but in a few weeks.
Is it worth it? Well I am an ex iPhone 4 user, and it's pretty worth it! I am going to be honest though, without having a case, its a you know what to not get scratches even when taking good care of it. Also the build feels cheap if your coming from a more solid phone. this phone is ALL plastic, but its the stuff inside that counts. Also just miss my iPhone 4, lol. it's all i was used to for 3 years.
Personal problems, some apps like facebook dont check in properly, more than 70 percent of the time it doesn't work. GPS is among the best i've seen however, locking on almost instantly. umm camera quality sucks, but the phone is pretty consistent with flash and plays pretty awesome . fast fast fast phone. it has its quirks though, however if your an android user and know what its about, it's probably the phone for you!
Rooting requires downgrading firmware then upgrading to maintain root, iirc.
GB will be released soon no eta though.
Bootloader bypass is being worked on as we speak, 2nd init is working but needs roms.
Right now is the time to get this phone, with the devs working on so many solutions to Moto and Att's lockdown the potential of this phone is incredible.
Also with Netflix coming soon and the qhd display it will get even better, however the yellows on this display seem a little greenish, and has miffed a few people, but I really don't pay much attention to it.
The only problems I have seen is random reboots, all from apps not optimized for this phone.
As far as camera quality, IMO it is the best camera quality I have seen on a phone and that include the iphone4, video is great, the only thing it lacks is stock camera customizing i.e. lens effects, more color options ect., easily rectified with apps.
This is the best phone I have ever owned and would recommend it to anyone looking for something for in a phone.

1. Yes you can, prob comes down to personal preference.
2. No. I am very happy with the GladRoot method. Do this BEFORE you accept the OTAs.
3. I dont know of a link or have a list sorry.
4. Its coming. Dont listen to everybody anybody in the forum who thinks a few peoples speculations are fact. The fact is Moto has NOT given a date for GB on the Atrix.
5. Its worth it!! Join the party.
6. List of root apps for the Atrix.

Unfortunately u cant bcoz its more than a skin.. its entrenched within the OS. However freezing apps like Social Networking which are from Motoblur and installing a Lanucher gets rid of most of the problem. You can definitely root. Gingerbreak works flawlessly.

-You can disable motoblur by installing a pseudo-rom (i suggest gingerblur) or by using third party launcher (i.e. launcher pro) and freezing motoblur through titanium backup.
-Rooting actually is kinda the same(ish). You don't have to root before you ota. You can ota to 1.83 and use gingerbreak to root it. Use this link to install gingerbreak on you phone, http://atrix4ghacks.com/atrix-4g-hacks/how-to-root-atrix-4g/ then run gingerbreak from phone to one click root.
-Gingerbread is coming out in like a few weeks. You can check out the gb preview thread in android dev.
-its worth it
-um it doesn't come with stock headphones, but they sound just as good as iphone with any headphoens.
-call quality is good
one issue it has is that it kinda gets warm (or hot if using for a long time), especially around the bottom portion. oddly it doesn't get nearly as hot on the lower back of the phone as it does at the lower front glass of the phone.
hope i helped
I wouldn't do anything other than root and enable sideloading. Be sure to get the Amazon marketplace for the one free app a day. Most are garbage, but some (like the Nuance FlexT9 keyboard are great. I think Motoblur is fine, despite what many say. Decide for yourself if it really doesn't fit with how you use it. I just chose not to add my facebook account. It works fine in my experience.

What are the differences between AT&T MK2 (4.3) & NB1 (4.4)?

Since @rebel1699 gave AT&T users a way to expirence 4.4.2 and still maintain some control, I've loaded a few 4.4.2 ROMs. With just a cusary glance I don't see or feel much difference. I was hoping folks sharper than I would discuss this so I (and hopefully others might learn a thing or two). I do know they added a dir system/priv-app to store some apks, but don't know why? Maybe this could be answered first and get the ball rolling. Discuss.
U have to look in the perspective of what google thought at that time. Google implemented system/priv-app and this had to be continued by CM and other AOSP roms or else Google has all the rights to sue them. Only apks in /system/priv-app can use "system"-level permissions.(Thats what i think and i know. I might be wrong?)And as Touchwiz is just a skin ontop of Android, Samsung and other OEMs had to go with this.

Interesting observation. :good: Excellent start. One could expand on this issue as It relates to (Better, Worse or No Change). Maybe it could be disussed how this changes modding, etc...
Responses need not be technical in nature--although they are appreciated--opinions as to how you find the experience of using 4.3 vs 4.4 are greatly appreciated and informative.

Does anyone know if you can still select the camera to save pics to external storage on KitKat? I don't have a card at the moment to test it out and would like to know before I give this phone to my wife.
Oh and BTW, my phone just updated to NB1 from MK2 by itself, I did not select anything to ok the install, just heard a noise on the phone and looked and it was installing.

It's horrible for the user. Look at this link.
http://www.ibtimes.com/android-44-k...plained-root-access-fix-now-available-1562147
The way I was able to get the functionality back was by rooting (which is somewhat a pain on NB1) and using this method here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607215
I had to use method 2 since safestrap has issues flashing stuff to NB1.
Apparently this app also fixes it, but I haven't tried. But it still requires root.

If you don't feel like commenting how 'bout voting? Names are not recorded in any way.
A vote kinda says it in a nutshell!
So far, basically we have these diffetences:
1. White status bar icons.
2. Camera shortcut on lockscreen
3. Restricted access to microSDCard in 4.4.2 (and we learned how to regain access)

Discuss.

I am interested to learn this as well. For a casual user, it looks very similar.
OK guys, let's get specific! If 4.4 is better than 4.3--why? If it's not--why? Come on, share! I really think we need to stop taking so-called uprades for granted! I've seen guys/gals almost in tears over losing their custom recovery (MK2) or access to their microSDCard (that btw, cost people their hard earned money). Remember what the commercial sez "knowledge is power!" I believe that is part of what xda was founded on--discovering and sharing knowledge. I know good people from around the globe have increased my knowledge and enriched my phoning experience (if "phoning"is a real word) Instead of just taking all the time, I'm trying to find away to help out however small. I have had the pleasure of communicating with all types of phone enthusiast and am better for it! Give a little--take a little--Discuss!
Oh yeah, as you can see from my signature I want to verbalize a shamless plug for Hyperdrive ROM v15--it's saved me so far during the "lock down." A hardy thanks to @sbreen94!

If you enjoy the idea of owning your phone instead of it owning you, I encourage you continue reading everthing you can. Though there are a few people with poor communication skills-shall we say-the vast majority of the folks around here will help you learn and get the most out of that expensive rectangle you bought. Read one of those "everthing you need to know for noobs threads"--they are well done and will get you started out right. Enjoy my friend!
You will see a "1" on your thanks meter becuase I appreciate your showing interest--and in that way you have helped me!

Actually, one of the reasons I was interested in the update is because I can't get Hyperdrive to work properly. I don't want to derail this thread, but I posted in another thread with someone who was having similar issues with Hyperdrive. If you get a chance, and have a second, please check out this thread. I really love Hyperdrive, but if I can't get it to work, I am thinking about just unrooting and upgrading to kitkat (but I would rather use Hyperdrive). Thanks.

Well phone fans--when your thread drops off "General" to "Q&A" page 1 then drops a page a day--your thread has been bitten! This thread is now a "walker!" The merciful thing is a crossbow to the head from Daryl Dixon. LOL!
Thanks to the folks who contributed. I learned few things and I hope others did as well. Off topic -- I even got a chance to actually help someone with a significant problem. So, thanks for that--it's nice to be the helper rather than the helpee for a change.
Well Daryl, don't miss -- "LOOSE!!!!

A question for the ages! All I can say is "brood over it brother, brood over it..."
My AT&T S4 says camera pic to SD card and I am on NB1 4.4.2 It says it to Storage/extSdCard/ DCIM/ Camera Pictures camera takes are in there on my SD card. Have you gone into Camera settings and at bottom of list STORAGE is set to Memory Card, Not Device. Just keep hitting the Setting icon on each screen until you get to screen with Lacation Tag Review etc.

[Q] kindle for samsung app on galaxy note 4

hi all
for some strange reason when i first got this device i was able to go to the samsung app store and
download the kindle for samsung app. It was nice, it had multi window function and I was quite happy about that.
as on my note 8 i had to hack the darn thing to work with multi-window (tutorials are lovely things aren't they )
I had to do a factory reset on the thing and ever since then i'm not able to find that app anymore.
I finally stumbled on a thread in xda where some one posted the kindle for samsung app in an other thread for the S6 i think it was. I managed to grab it from there but this one has no multi window function.
I've busted my brains for three days now, message samsung twice with absolutely zero luck. they seem to selectively become unable to comprehend anything I say beyond a point. Tried all kinds of vpn ip re-routing and still can't get onto the samsung app store to get this friggin app.
so if anyone in here has it would you please.. please please pleaaaaaseeeee im begging you be so kind as to give me a dropbox link or something so i can pick this thing up and finally use kindle with multiwindow? please?
I'm seriously drained now looking around and looking for a way around samsungs nonsense (don't even get me started on the google play store -not available in your country blah blah) uuuuuhhhh
help... i give up please help.
What you get in the Samsung store is dependent on device description in the build.prop. perhaps check if a flash of some Rom changed it.
Hmm I'm not sure what you mean. I'm new-ish to android. If you mean about rooting and changing from the official samsung rom to an other then no, I've never done that.
the phone is new. It was initially turned on and setup in the USA that may be why, I dunno. Samsung said that the kindle for samsung app is simply not part of the store which services my location. They zoned my country out (for an ebook reader? Maybe it's for the book deals but I don't care for that)
If you meant something else , what should I be looking for in this file and what should it be?
I guess it's time to find some tutorials again. (Heck of a lot of trouble for just one app though this is getting crazy for one apk)
I'm sure if I can just get the apk I'd be good.
Thanks though.
yeah, that was what i was refering to. if you flash a new rom it might be that the description of your phone changes.
the only thing i could think of would be that your sim card changed the region your phone is accounted to and so you can't download it anymore. a possible way would be to reset your phone and startup without sim, connect to wifi and install it from samsungs store and after that you can insert the sim card again and continue the setup. i understand that this is not a convenient way, so you'd better just search for the apk.
samsung is restricting access, because it comes bundles with one year service 1 free book per month.
i just tried it and could download and install it from the galaxy apps store.
Lol would you believe all while I was doing this there was no sim card in the phone?
I was getting a feel for the phone and transferring contacts playing with it all before I put the sulim on. In fact, I only put the sim card in five minutes ago for the first time.
it has to be the book deals. I don't care about that, I don't want any novels.
Could u extract the apk with "es file explorer" and post a Dropbox link?
That would be awesome , that's all I'd need I'm sure of it. That particular apk
is no where to be found anywhere online
Here is a tutorial on how to do it
http : / / w w w mobilitaria.com/2013/11/using-es-file-explorer-to-make-apk.html
gonna check that link out, give me a minute

Also just heard from someone who said that if I ever did flash my phone with an other rom that the app wouldn't work anymore (at least that was his experience). I'm not really into that anyways. About the only thing I'd be interested in would be getting this SM-N910H to unlock LTS like the N190C I'm guessing it's just software lock out. I saw something in an other forum thread on here with people experimenting with it. I've not finished reading to the end of that thread yet. It did seem that was really no difference in these phones though. I dunno. Guess I'd better back up right quickly then haha.
What is LTS?
Oh that's 4G I believe that's what it's called
Oh it is called lte around here. I do not understand that you need to unlock it. It should be activated by default.

oh snap you're right I must have gotten the acronym mixed up with linux lts (long term support) you're correct its LTE.. but on my model it doesn't have it included.
the SM-910C and a few others have it mine is the SM-910H that doesn't have it by default but seems it might be a software lock-out. I'd love to have it though.
i did not see mentions of software locked LTE here yet.
i found this thread which claims (at the start at least) that your phone is a 3G version of the note 4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/sm-n910h-3g-variant-t2925648
i did not read the whole thread, but if it really is not unlockable, perhaps you can exchange the phone with someone who does not need 4g and wants to have a little better battery life. in the end LTE modes were always known to drown your battery more quickly then 3g modems, i guess it is still like that.

Hey good looking out! Thanks.!!!
the truth is that I don't really need 4g at all.. I just like to have a complete device that's all. I don't use mobile data over here because it's terribly slow no matter what "g" they claim to have over here and I found it to expensive for what I get no to mention I'd likely only use it for text or whats app. I just stick with wifi. But I'll check out that article
and if it does indeed drain battery then there really isn't a compelling reason for getting it unless I was going to sell the phone to someone who would need data.
Hows that kindle app working out for you though?:good:

Is ROOT G935T worth it? Advice needed

The question is simple enough... Is it worth ROOTING the T-mobile G935T Galaxy S7 Edge ?
I'm late to the game with the S7E - Quite literally just bought one... And this will be my first device with a locked bootloader. My Note 4 was fully rooted with tons of support and development.
I see there is not much (hardly any) rom development for the S7E G935T, and I see several threads mentioning root and guides, but then I see it bootloops several days later, or people going back stock and just not messing with it. So the question I ask is this: Is it worth rooting the S7E ? or is the root not worth the effort... Also since I'm used to a root with my Note 4 - will the Root for the G935T be the same? or a limited root?
Sorry if this is confusing, just wanted a more current answer since I'm sure there have been lots of changed from March-July 2016 where most of those other threads started.
No, it's not worth it in my opinion. I could never get rid of the heat and the lag. However, goodlock provides most of the the UI customizations I prefer, and the Samsung theme engine compliments that, along with Nova launcher. Adhell blocks ads, the Ufirmware gets rid of the annoying T-Mobile bootscreen and bloat, and you get to keep Samsung pay. I pay for google play music, so YouTube red takes care of YouTube ads. Honestly, this phone has enough going for it that (I can't believe I'm saying this!) root is not needed. In fact, as a long time rooter myself, aside from flashing a new custom ROM every week, the isn't any functionality that I miss that I can think of. If I didn't pay for YouTube red, youtube ads might annoy me I suppose
Thanks @dave812 I appreciate you taking the time to write that.
I have a couple questions, if you (or any one) has the time to answer...
I have Nova launcher prime. I've installed a couple Samsung themes but I can not see the themed icons in Nova? Only TouchWiz.
I'll for sure try ad hell, I tried ad clean and the battery usage was insane. Nearly 30% during a days use... That's too high.
Good lock I've never heard of. I'll check that out.
Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have mine rooted running Echoes Rom 1.5 with Xposed using a custom Aod screen. It's not really worth root because of less than stellar battery life but I love to root so I did it anyway.
I was a long time Rooter as well and built themes for the Note 4. Samsung Themes are pretty good @Araltd but with Nova the Icon Packs will not carry over. The only launcher I have found to do this is Action Launcher, but it doesn't have the features of Nova IMO.
@PapaMag yeah I remember the themes! I ran a few of them on my note 4.
I'm shocked no one has come up with a way to get the Samsung theme icons to carry over to Nova? But since I have no clue, I'm assuming it's not easy to do.
When you say you were a long time rooter does that mean you do not root anymore?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7E
My opinion... no. Root isn't worth it. Not until an unlocked bootloader becomes available (IF).
No custom roms (well... slimmest that I've ever seen anyway.)
No Samsung Pay
Poor battery life
Lag (even after "fixes")
No OTA.
No Nouget (more than likely)
I believe at this point it might be easier to ask, "What's the benefit of having root?"

I had never heard of Adhell before this post. I've been using Adguard but I *hate* having the VPN icon in the notification bar, plus it messes up battery stats. You're basically my favorite person right now, Adhell has totally made my day!

At this point, viper. I don't think superior audio quality is worth all those other drawbacks.
I'm in the same boat. Got an S7E on day one, rooted that one (but overheated and lagged like hell). Went through the whole Note 7 debacle and am now back with a S7E. The only thing I'm really hoping for is the Nougat update soon. It carries over a lot of the N7 features and UI. Would anyone suggest going with the Verizon Nougat Beta, or just suck it up and wait?
Well honestly I've found ez package disabler to disable most of the bloat. Gets themes too ??
I've got Adhell running and disconnect pro which are both administrative level ad blockers... I'm used to ad away, which is amazing... These other two in conjunction block about 90% I guess. I'm running TouchWiz with the theme's right now (I also own Nova prime) but Nova won't use the TouchWiz system icons so I'm playing around right now.
I've got super swiftkey with all its themed keyboards. I have not used samsung/Android pay yet, but since it's stock APK1, it (they) should work.
I do notice some heating up from time to time.. The only app I've got that lags badly right now is my security camera app (q-see view) which makes the phone crawl so bad, I can not always exit the app properly. Sometimes I have to press recent apps and close all to make it end... Didn't have that problem before on the note 4.
I looked at good lock, it seems like a fancy lock screen replacement. I personally don't see a need for that. Unless I didn't find the right app? It didn't seem to offer any UI tweaks, just lock screen functions...?
All I can say is, nougat can't get here fast enough for me.
Thanks for all the help and advice! Please keep it coming. If more of us post results with apps and tweaks, rooting won't be missed as much. Thanks again to everyone for participating here!

I'm about to unroot today, it's been horrible ( the lag that is) even with the fixes it's like your'e using half a phone constant freezing lag
I rooted yesterday - and yes my phone was very hot. And it lagged, but I followed all the instructions in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/guide-post-root-common-bugs-fixes-t3427600
My phone is now running fine. It is not hot and it does not lag. I'm really glad I rooted. I was able to install xposed and modules today.

I have been rooted for a couple of months. I have no SU hashtag. Also no heat or lag. I am running U fimrware with T-Mobile modem.
My stance on rooting is no for s7 edge for the following reasons.
1. Samsung Pay ( Soooooooo convienient. My wallet only has my ID, a debit card and credit card thanks to it)
2. S Health ( There are other ones out there but I prefer S health that provides a lot of benefits without ads in my face every 10s)
3. Stock is very stable.
4. Samsung theme store ( enough customization options here )
5. Security in general ( not tripping knox, plus complete stock may get better resale value )
For the bloatware issues, I'm rocking stock ROM for 935u, the unlocked US version. I would suggest going this route if bloatware and performance is an issue for you. It isn't that hard to flash. It doesn't trip knox. You keep all the benefit of a stock phone and a very, very stable phone. There's a thread on XDA which I followed https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/stock-official-sm-g935us-g935uueu4apl4-t3535408.
