Sell my S7 Edge to buy a Xiaomi MI6? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I recently upgraded from an S6Edge to an S7Edge but im not happy with this sidegrade, honestly other then more battery life the rest is pretty much on par...so i was thinking to sell the S7Edge and buy the upcoming Xiaomi MI6 which should use the new Snapdragon 835...
What do you guys think? Is it worth or not?

You asked the same question 4 days ago, please don't double post.
Your decision. Since you're regretting your S7E after only a week, I can't see any advice or recommendations won't result in the same. Do the research, only you can be sure.

No Band 20 on the Mi6.

Is not the same question!! Perhaps your reading abilities have some issues?
Instead of threadcrapping, next time, try to not comment at all...no one is forcing you to reply.

The increase in processor power is only important in theory. We have reached a plateau where even last year's top processors are still ample. Manufacturer implementation of Android is imho far more important.
I had a look at the new S8 today and despite my misgivings about lack of useful new features I have to say it is a very sexy (!) phone. Problem is if you are unhappy with Samsung it probably won't do much for you either.

The S8 looks good but other then that it doesnt look that much of an improvement...and the price is way too high..

The lack of band 20 4G (800MHz) was a dealbreaker for me when deciding on buying Xiaomi phones. I was just about to buy a Mi5 when I found out that I'd have problems with 4G.
Band 20 is used widely in my country by the top providers and Xiaomi phones regularly don't support it, causing them to fallback to 3G+ speeds.

Charming. Public forum. I want to reply, and my advice is genuine. If you get buyer's remorse after a week with a S7E, what's to say it won't happen again with whatever you choose next? Hence, oh angry one, I suggested that you do a lot more research.
As said - no-one can decide what is the best phone for you and your needs but yourself (although clearly you have trouble in that department). Maybe try an iPhone?

I think it does not worth it. Seriously, wait for another generation of flagships to come. S7 edge, is still a great phone.

I dont know...im just disappointed with the s7edge...thats why im considering to buy a Xiaomi...i can sell the s7edge for around 370-400 euro and buy a Xiaomi MI6 and still save money...but the fact that it might not have band20 as someone suggested meaning no LTE in Europe is a problem.

The odds are it won't have b20 unless they make a global version like with the mi note 2 and redmi note 4.

Galaxy s8. Why not?

For me the most important thing is the camera and a good display. If you also look for this, then you cannot by anything else than Samsung.

My 2 cents
Look at the features the S7E has because the phone has alot of hidden features that you won't find in two weeks on your own. But look at the features and compare them.. not the look of the phones tho.
Write down what features you need in a phone/device and what features are not important at all then you kinda have a check list at that point. Phone that meets your needs most wins..

Xiaomi MI6 probably has a kirin processor

[Q] Is SGS a good phone?

I have a question. SGS is a great device, with a super S-AMOLED display, so on and so forth. But the real question is: can it fulfill basic operations like calling? It has any signal dropping or things like that? Because somebody told me that Samsung aren't known for phones, and if I spend 450 euros for a phone, I want to be sure that I can really dial numbers with it. Don't take this post as a joke, because applefanboys also took iPhone 4's problem as a joke, and you must buy a certain bumper case for it to dial and call.

SGS is worth it, plus add in untapped potential with Froyo and better games in the future, we are only scrapping the surface.
As for Samsung not being known for phones, this is entirely untrue. They are the 2nd biggest cell phone manufacturer in the world and the largest seller of phones in the US.
Samsung's issue is that they aren't known for their smartphones, with less than 5% of the global market, and they are known for dropping or never starting the support on the phones. However, they have already acknowledged GPS (from what I've read) and that they are looking into it, some people have little issues with the GPS. Also, they have already released official firmware updates in at least 3 countries. I think the difference in support is mostly due to carriers, as their biggest market (besides the US but they just recently launched) and most trusted parter SK they have issued 4 firmware updates.
I owned the original iPhone so this is my first Samsung smartphone, but I've got it and am not looking back.

Heh, you're not the only one, and I don't say that from my opinion, I say that from the reading of how much these phones were going for on Ebay and other p2p sales. Meaning, they were often worth more than their asking price. And, all the people who bought them in these countries...well only there were so many people who opened the box without even thinking of selling...To them, it means that it was worth more than the street (Ebay) selling prices (assuming they knew or considered the possibility, of course not all did)!

Excellent news! Any chance the P905 will follow after?
so happy to see the word "Lollipop" mentioned regarding the Note Pro!
I am very excited about the Lollipop era and i am searching the forum daily for news regarding it.
I am a OnePlus One owner who is amazed about all the brilliant developers that are engaged in building more and more ROMs for the device and I am very thrilled that there is already a CM12 (pre-alpha) build for the OPO.
I wish you good luck @DexterFichuk and TIA.
It's known to me that I can't compare the development team in such different device and market and that's even more of a reason why i wanted to thank a single thread from one developer.
Every single new development for our big tablet will be a blessing
Thank's again @DexterFichuk and I hope you will get all the help you need from our small community :highfive:

Me too. Guess the people that buy this use stock touchwiz and are happy. Or cm11 (which is cool and fast).... but I hope for some love for cm12 someday soon ....
There is a working version for the p600. We could use that as base.

Its an odd topic, sure, I'd live cm12 on this tablet, but losing the multi tasking features would be a set back. Omnirom has multitasking still in development which can be used, but they will never support another exynos based Samsung.

I agree. But needs be for the P905 LTE as well because quite frankly almost no one buys WiFi only tabs anymore. In fact where I live can't even buy the WiFi version.. they just don't sell it anymore..

I have no idea where you are coming up with this, i'd argue the majority of tablets sold are in fact wifi only with most people tethering from their phone when they need internet on the go to avoid an additional monthly fee.

I am "coming up with this" from where I live, Hong Kong. No one buys WiFi only tablets here and no where to be found on sale, unless I go to eBay or resort to alternative ways to get one. Is that simple. And not to mention that the Snapdragon 800 is now an universal platform on HUNDREDS (let me correct that.. millions) of devices of all brands, shapes, sizes and forms worldwide, while the (specific) Exynos chip (and drastically comparatively underperforming) is used ONLY on a select number of Samsung devices. That's it.

Yes and no.
HongKong is a very specific area that has always worked a bit different from the rest of the market.
It is, in fact, the other way around. Globally more wifi only tablets are sold. There are hundreds of markets where the LTE edition doesnt even reach the shops. (Netherlands is one of them, and we're a first world country. I had to buy my p905 in Germany.)
Add to that the fact that the LTE editions are 100-200 quid more expensive. Which is much, on a device that is already severely overpriced. (the P900 is 800 euro.) (Every device is overpriced in Europe.)
Most people tether. Many providers don't offer multiSIM, and they thus require a double subscription, with all the fees that go with it.
Now the fact that Snapdragon is much more popular is true.
The NotePro is the only Samsung device for which there is more developement for the Exynos than the Snapdragon. All other devices have the very clear 'You want developement, buy the Snapdragon' rule. But not the Note Pro.
And I can't figure out why, because the Exynos one is weaker, unstable and suffers from serious problems.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you and understand. Its a shame Samsung continues with this stupid lifeline of making different models of the same product line with the different chips.. would be so much easier making all Snapdragon or all Exynos no matter if its the WiFi, 3G or LTE. Anyway.. it is rumored they will launch a larger (around 13") tablet soon to compete with the future larger Ipad/new MacBook Air/Surface. I hope its a one chip ONLY machine no matter the configuration, though probably not and we will have to deal with more variants again. I gotta tell you I am not a person that likes upgrades and can live perfectly with a older OS version as long as my apps work on the device.. CM 10 or 11 all good for me. But after trying lollipop on a friend's new phone, I have to admit its a major upgrade and Google did a really good job. At this point I dont even want to look back past having a unit with a future CM 12 on it
And you are also right on Hong Kong being a special market. The fact is here LTE is cheap as hell and everyone just uses it even more than WiFi. 3G is totally a thing of the past and so incredibly cheap if you want one is almost laughable.. in a good way. Unlimited 4G plans here are very inexpensive and mainstream. And indeed, as overpriced as the 12.2 Tab already is (most Samsung devices actually, reason for which their sales are plunging and other brands are taking over) the truth is when someone has the cash for the Tab, its not a few bucks more between the WiFi and the LTE that makes or breaks the purchase decision. There are almost NO MORE 3G units available for sale anywhere of any type of device and as prices keep falling for LTE plans and the price gap between WiFi and LTE units narrows, I think in the near future almost all devices are simply all LTE.. just as a few years ago 3G was an option and Bluetooth a luxury.. hell, I remember the first laptops with WiFi adapters built-in just 15 years ago and that was groundbreaking. I think devices without LTE radios built-in soon will be a thing of the past. In fact many devices sold here already are LTE-A compatible though few carriers still have that

I'll tell you. First, there are almost no developers having Snapdragon version of NP. Why would they develop for device they don't have? Also this poll tells somehing about devices people here on XDA uses ----> Exynos dominates. So again, they develop for devices they and other users got.

Got it! Well, I'm very happy to live in a part of the world, where everyone can afford unlimited LTE and have it for the price of a double expresso coffee in the other parts of the world where wifi "dominates". That's all I can say

Remember When

Remember when you came to XDA everyday and there was always something new for your phone?
What is going on? We only have two roms for a phone thats been out for a year?
You want constent support from the development community, follow the sheep and buy a highly advertised device like the Note 4 or go pure Android with Nexus.
The Note Edge was never highly advertised, nor did anyone really know how using the edge would be like. So the majority of the public got a Note 4 over the Note Edge, because the heard about the phone more.
Or
You could learn how to build your own custom rom.
Ya I don't think it's the forum I think it's the phone. The sprint guy I asked at my local store told me about 2 months after it was released they haven't even sold 1 unit yet out of that store. I think it was way overpriced on the 2 year service agreement price. It was 299 for the note 4 and 429 for the note edge. I think that really hurt the sales.

That's not really a good excuse. The phone is the exact same other than the screen. I can't imagine it'd be that much more difficult to make a Note 4 rom work on an Edge.

The phone is not the exact same. Maybe some of the hardware is, but software wise it's a completely different animal.
The screen being a huge difference. In making a custom rom someone would need to figure out how to code to make use of the edge display like it works with stock rom.
Do some research before complaining. Like I said Samsung never intended for this device to be the new flagship device. The majority bought Note 4 or other devices. Or the heavy modders bought Nexus or the One Plus One.
One of the pitfalls to being a early adopter of a device that Samsung used as a feeler to see how the public reacted to the curved screen. Hell if I remember correctly Samsung only produced a limited amount of Samsung Note Edge's. Which could also be the reason why developers steered clear of this device.
you have to realize too as far as i have heard they sold a **** ton more note 4 than note edge so less people have them which equals to less people developing roms. i get bored with mine too sometimes i am checking for the lollipop update daily. just to get something different on there. but it is what it is man. be happy with it or go to the note 4 is my only advice for you

Your right about lack of roms, your 100% incorrect that the edge has been out for a year. Edge release date was November 2014. Lets hope in time more devs jump on board.
Lol I wish it has been out for a year. Maybe in a year someone will Crack the root process for Verizon note edge. And I won't have to buy the developer edition that looks like it's never releasing.

Yeah, I remember the times when I had a nonperfect phone that needed a custom Rom for major improvements. Now I don't have a dire need for full tweaks anymore, which is kind of boring. But I would love more cool new apps for the edge panel, other than uninspired superhero themes.
But I will soon try some Roms anyway, just for the fun of it.
If you want to point fingers aim them at samsung. This is, function wise, the best phone I ever had. They billed it as a concept phone and developers said: eff that! Why devote time and resources to a phone that is a shot in the dark. I had the htc hd2 and the htc sensation and in 2 weeks there were ROMs, tips, accessories and everything. The support and marketing for this phone has been abysmal. Samsung is lucky that I stopped rooting my phones so I do not look to tinker with it as much as I used to do so stock is fine. But they really did us, consumers of this particular phone, no favors.

I believe if you have a plan with unlimited data with sprint you can upgrade every 12 months.
But if you bought the phone for full price your shouldn't be locked into any contract.
Too bad sprint coverage in my area is lacking... my unlimited days is the only thing keeping me with Verizon at this point. Is literally take any other service if it was unlimited 4G in my house like my Verizon.

All that I'll say is.... Getting an AOSP/AOKP rom to work with the edge panel has been.... Very unforgiving. I'll keep tinkering in my spare time, but it isnt looking good.
Otherwise, you'd be looking for more themed / debloated TW roms.... Which with root, you can debloat it yourself anyway....
-sent from the edge of the note galaxy-
I feel your pain.. the edge doesn't seem like that much of a difference at first, after all it's just 1 little screen that's different about it. I've reached a point where i am now just ordering a new one cause there is no going back with this one now. This time i'm going to do what i should have done in the first place... Make a backup immediately!
As far as building a complete custom rom ground up, I am not that good. i'd like to be but i just am not. i'll throw out probably a debloated TW with and one without root for those who only want to remove those annoying apps then dont care about root anymore. maybe save someone a little time.

Anyone switching from the Galaxy S7 to OnePlus 5?

I'm considering upgrading to the OnePlus 5 (or 3T) from the Galaxy S7, but is it worth it after only one year? I guess I could sell my Galaxy S7 to partially make up for the OnePlus 5/3T expenses, but still unsure if they are that much better of phones.
I'm switching from s6 to OP5, why? Because want bigger (not curved) screen and better battery. S6 do better photos indoor.
I switched over from my S7 Edge. Depends on what you want out of your phone. I like stock Android, overall speed of the phone, dual camera, and the customizability. I also prefer the metal unibody.

Yeah I definitely want stock Android and better overall speed, battery life, and customization. But I'm wondering if it's too early to upgrade after only a year, and whether the S7 isn't that much far off from the OnePlus 5.

If you're satisfied with the S7 then keep it. I like to live on the bleeding edge of phone tech, that's honestly one of the main reasons I upgraded.

I've noticed that it's begun to slow down (but not to the extent that I need to get rid of it), but my primary reason for considering the upgrade is to be able to not only use a brand new phone, but to flash ROMs on it and likely keep it for 2 years because of that.

I don't see them coming out with a 5T, and if they did it would be marginal. The only difference I think would be a 2k screen and OIS. Which won't really impact day to day use. I'd grab the 5.

I sold my OnePlus 3T for $430 and now have the OnePlus 5 in my hands. Note that there's a promotion on the S8/S8+ right now, so you can pick one of those guys up for $~450. So if you like the S-Line, I'd weigh my options carefully.
No doubt the 3T/5 is much faster and smooth than the S7/S8 with a superior stock experience in terms of speed. If you want to try out Custom ROM's, then OP5 is the place to go for sure.

I've actually been an HTC fanboy since 2010 (until last year), but was so close to picking a phone with stock Android that year, and I wish I did. Don't get me wrong, the S7 has been very solid for me, but I'm not a huge fan of Touchwiz and I really miss the ability to flash ROMs which improves the longevity of phones. I'm just trying to figure out if an upgrade after only a year is worth it even if I can sell my S7 for a lot of money to nearly make up for the OP5.

The OP5 will retain resale value. I sold my 3 (Originally $399) for $375 when I upgraded to the OP3T and sold the OP3T (Originally $479) for $430. I would sell the S7 before it loses more value, and you can always sell your OP5 in the future if needed without worrying about price depreciation.

That's a good point. Just out of curiosity, my S7 is on T-Mobile. I know that I could take my SIM card out of it and stick it inside the OP5 (if I do purchase it). Does my phone number also get transferred and I maintain the same carrier plan? Sorry, this may be my first time switching to an unlocked phone.
EDIT: Asking because I'm wondering if I would have to pay more for talk/messaging/data after a year.
I switched from S7 (not EDGE) but still didn't received OP5. After reviews on the internet I'm considering to buy HTC U11 anyway after few weeks.

I do have a T-mobile SIM as well. Yeah you can just pop it into any device you want. Service is tied to the SIM.

Oh ok, that's what I thought. But would my carrier plan stay intact, or end after the 2 year period which started in June 2016?

oneplus 6t to Rog phone 2?

Hello, do you guys recommend the rog phone 2, I was thinking upgrading from 6T to the rog phone 2 tencent version ($500) as for the price and upgrade seems to be worth it, in terms of sound, haptics, screen and of course battery. one thing i have concerns about is their updates, but some people managed to root the rog phone 2 tencent version one, and seems promising with custom roms, Also they got a version of gcam working with camera2api. The global version is going to be too expensive.
Would you guys recommend such upgrade?
Thank you.
For that price, its a solid deal. If I could get that phone for that much and I knew that I could put a US or international ROM on it I would grab it.
The down side will be the warranty if you ever need to use it.

From what I'm reading is that Tencent version won't have US LTE bands (Well these bands are also used in other countries too). However I haven't seen which bands it's missing yet though. So I guess it depends on what country the OP lives in. Having a phone in the US that is only capable of 3G would not be worth $500 in my opinion. Same problem with a lot of Xiaomi phones for those of us living in the US.
I don't think I would want to be an early adopter on that. I would sit back and wait to see if someone figures out if the hardware is actually different or not.
