How many variants of the S8 will there be? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

So I know there will be an Exynos and a Snapdragon version. Exynos for EMEA and Snapdragon for North America
Are there any regional variants of the S8 ?
I'll prefer to buy the dual SIM unlocked version with Exynos
Something that works in Europe, US and India.
What do you think would be the best version ?

Both phones are also going to have a special "Microsoft" edition. Don't know the soc though.

I would be reluctant to purchase any "global unlocked" version based on past experience with the Note 3 and S5. No LTE on both devices. I work in the industry and have ran across many individuals on the same boat with different U.S. carriers.

S7 Edge in Hong Kong Snapdragon or Exynos

Hi,
It seems i have to buy the phone in Hong Kong to use the TDD LTE network from China mobile.
Does anybody know, what version of the S7 edge is sold in Hong Kong, is it Snapdragon or Exynos?
How can i check the difference before i buy the phone? Do They have different version numbers marked on the packaging?
Thanks!
Does anybody know, what version of the S7 edge is sold in Hong Kong, is it Snapdragon or Exynos? Snapdragon 820 (G9350)
How can i check the difference before i buy the phone? Just check the packaging
Do They have different version numbers marked on the packaging? Just G9350
Last year when I was still living in HK (and traveling between the US & Bangkok) I had the option to get the S6 Edge in any of the 3 locations. I chose the G9250 version simply for the wider LTE band coverage. It was a mistake. True that I could use it anywhere I traveled to, I failed to realize that in each place, with a local SIM, you'll have to be subscribed/registered (or whatever you call it) to LTE, otherwise you'll be connected to at most HSPA+ - rendering all those LTE bands a moot point. What I was deprived of, as a result, was the lack of development support. I was so itching to root the phone and ticker the hell out of it but decided just to leave it as stock - even until now.
1 year latter, along came the S7 and the exact same choice. This time it was easy and there was absolutely no doubt, I went with the international Exynos version - 935FD (silver) and never looked back. And yes, I rooted, TWRPed, Xposed, but still on stock ROM. I am having fun with my phone again
Do yourself a big favor and pass on the HK/Chinese 820 SD version - especially if you want root and beyond.

Yea, that why i asked the question, i will only buy the phone if i am able to root it.
My main problem is that i mostly stay in China and China mobile has TDD LTE, i don't know if the international version of the S7 edge can use LTE.
Does anyone know if the international version works with china mobile?
I don't think even the SD820 935F version can be rooted yet, you'll probably have to wait even longer for the 9350.
So now you have a dilemma: Get the rootable 935F/FD and not be compatible with China Mobile's LTE TDD bands 38, 39, 40, 41 - OR - Get the 9350 and not being able to root.
Remember that you can easily switch to "China Telecom or China Unicom" both of which uses LTE bands 1,3,5 and 3 respectively.
You can also still get 2G/2.5G on China Mobile with the 935F/FD

Hello,
I know this is a year old but I just came across this whilst researching for the S8. Just to add, I have the 935F from the UK and it works fine on 4G on China Mobile, not restricted to 2G/2.5G at all.

Best model to import into Europe (Switzerland)?

Hey guys
So, as I live in switzerland and we most probably aren't getting the LGv20 officially I am starting to look around for alternatives. I've gone to frequencycheck.com and checked every modell of the phone on there, added them all to a spreadsheet and now have a list of possible models that would work in my country (assuming frequencycheck is accurate). The versions that would work 100% on my country and carrier are (with corresponding Country-of-release) next to them:
LG F800L V20 LTE-A | South Korea
LG US996 V20 LTE-A | USA
LG VS995 V20 XLTE | USA
LG H990 V20 TD-LTE / H990TR | International? (Didn't find out which country)
LG H990ds V20 Dual SIM TD-LTE | Taiwan
I now have 2 questions:1) Are there more models I should be aware of and check and 2) Which model would be the best one for me to get? I would like an unlocked bootloader and the possibility to root my phone. I don't have a country preference - Importing a phone will be a PITA anyway.
Thanks for your recomendations!
Hallo!
I am from Germany. I am thinkting about the different versions too. Here is the H990N Dual Hong Kong version specified with Cat6 only (max Download Speed 300 Mbps, max Upload Speed 50 Mbps):
https://www.techwalls.com/lg-v20-model-numbers-differences/
Snapdragon 800 should have always Cat12 (max Download Speed 600 Mbps, max Upload Speed: 150 Mbps). Not be sure why there seems to be differences with LTE speed.
The H990DS Dual Taiwan version is specified with Cat12.
But I am unsure if those versions are Bootloader unlockable: http://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/lg-v20-h990ds-dual-sim-taiwan-version-t3490585
Anyone imported the V20? I'm from Germany and do not know which model works without limitations, too.
Snapdragon 800 should have always Cat12

Do you think the H990N has an older/slower CPU?!
I'm from Greece and I own H990DS TAIWAN version...this is for sure international version with all languages and 4g bands....it working perfect...but we didn't know if it going to be bootloader unlocked ever....
Be careful because there is another H990DS version from Korea that isn't international....
US996 has all the bands switzerland uses:
https://www.frequencycheck.com/compatibility/lzJdhQw/lg-us996-v20-lte-a/switzerland
And it can be bootloader unlocked.
@mgutt
I know you from German forums.
Sorry for this late answer but I have read your comment not until now incidentally. Of course every V20 device has the Snapdragon 820 inside. I mistyped 820 and 800 because of my old Note 3 with Snapdragon 800. But now I have my new V20 with Snapdragon 820 and I habe to unthink.
Hi Man, I'm from Switzerland too and I just bought one from Digitec.ch they have it in stock ready to ship and it's the international version H990DS Taiwan, actually i got mine it was in chinese it took me 5 mins to figure out how to change language lol...

G950FD Duos Eynos or Snapdragon?

Anyone can tell me all G950FD Duos model is made with Exyonos chipset or can be with Snapdragon as well? Saw an ebay a lot of G950FD model, on specification listed as with Snapdragon chipset. I tought G95XFD is International unlocked model with Exynos, it is true?
Yep, should be Exynos
As far as I know Snapdragon is sold in USA and China due to the fact those countries use CDMA and Qualcom has patents on this. Everybody else, who uses GSM only has Exynos. USA does not have dual SIM models, but China probably have dual SIM on some models, so I say it's possible to have Snapdragon with dual SIM, but I'm not in China so have not seen one myself.
Yes. Exynos
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
I own it. Exynos.
My company will sell that model for official carrier bundle, and yes, it would be exynos,
Snapdragon is only for north america region afaik

G93xx and other abbreviations

So when I'm searching for Roms/kernels and other stuff I see this all the time.
What does the x's mean in g93xx. Does that mean it supports all ? like g9350, g935f ,g9355 etc etc?
and there are other abbereviations like K/L/S.
What do all those mean?
These are gsm simcard phones with Samsung exynos processors.
These are found in South East Asia and Europe because GSM simcard are their standard.
The letter means the network or country the phone is for generally the exynos phones aren't carrier locked.
The xx just represents any letters that can fill in those 2 xxs like fd or s or k or l
935s means south korea telecom
935k and 935l are 2 other south Koreans telecom companies basically the same phone but the bootscreen is different and pre-built apps are exclusive to the carrier {country specific features, forced loud camera snap sounds, special Samsung music shop}
935f means unlocked multinational phone
935fd means unlocked multinational phone with dual sim
Canada's 935w8 is an exception it is still a gsm phone with an exynos processor.
All these phones can use custom roms but make sure you do not use a different phones bootloader or modem.
These are made with different countries in mind because of laws.
Snapdragon with CDMA no simcard networks they are heavily carrier locked. Europes standard is GSM also known as simcards but in america they use CDMA the network is locked into the phone its been the same since the 1980s.
They are horrible for roms basically.
935v means verizon
935p means sprint
9350 is the only unlocked Chinese cdma that can use custom rooms still limited tho

Which one of these are Exynos models? I'm looking for an Exynos model to buy.
