[Q] Can't add a shortcut to the second display - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Its odd, I had my favorite 5 apps up there for the longest time but one of them disappeared. I probably dragged it off by mistake and it's gone now. There is just a generic android placeholder app (the green alien) that does nothing.
How do I add the app I want back again? Do I just drag it up there, cause that's not working. Is it because I'm using a launcher (Nova)?

Definitely. The issue is the launcher. LG made its own launcher so that one could drage from the homescreen up to the 2nd screen. But other launchers don't have that integrated in the source (because ... well LG is the only one who does lol) .But you can still add shortcuts by going into settings> display> Second Screen> show when main screen on > app shortcuts

Delete it then readd

Got it guys, thanks.

A few android question

Hi,
I've been with WinMo since 2001 until about a week ago when I switched to andriod. I have many questions and was unsure where to turn to. I will try here. If there is a better place, please let me know.
I have a Desire Z that I got with ATT 3G bands. I have successfully rooted the device, overclocked it, and installed Cyanogen 6.
1) When I hit the power button, I still have to swipe my finger across the screen to unlock. How do I make it so I don't have to do this?
2) I had some difficulty upgrading to Cyanogen 6 and was unable to get 7 to work. IfI want to mess around further with roms, is there some way I can backup EVERYTHING so if I screw up, I can make my phone exactly the way I have it now without a whole lot of work re-installing stuff, etc.?
3) The link to the phone, app, and browser are all stuck on the bottom of the phone. Can I get rid of this?
4) When laying apps out on the home screen, there seems to be some kind of grid that they are locked into that makes it hard to move them exactly where I want them. It will let me lay them so they overlap each other, but not very close to each other. Is there some way to overcome this?
5) I can't seem to arrange apps close to the top of the screen because the garbage can overlay slides down and when I move the app near the top it thinks I am trying to throw it away.
6) Is there an app that will show both the current weather and an icon for the weather conditions in the status bar?
Wow, a lot of questions...
1, Go to Settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Input Settings and select Trackball wake/Trackball Unlock or Menu Unlock and after that you will be able to select Disable Unlock Slider
2, Try Titanium Backup (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup)
3, As far as I know CM6 uses ADW.Launcher as default launcher. You can change it to LauncherPro (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fede.launcher) which is fully customisable
4, There is a grid which can't be changed
5, LauncherPro has the trash icon at the bottom
6, Sorry, I didn't find any

Hello Everyone.
I went and found some of these answers on my own. I also was able to upgrade to CM7.
1) I found an app for it but will try PsHeger's solution.
2) I found that the bootloader/Rom manager do a good job of this, too.
3) I was able to remove it in the app launcher rather than using pro.
4) This absolutely pisses me off. I have a Winmo 6.5 phone that lets me have a nice, organized home screen. I can't believe there isn't a better solution to this. Good lord.
6) Go Weather App does this.
if you set your grid settings to 10x10 rows and columns in launcher pro, you can put the icons and widgets pretty much anywhere.

You can try this, but you will need to buy a pro key for laincherpro to strech the widgets or they will look really stuid

I found that the auto stretch check box pretty much solved the problem with layout.

Widget Positioning

Hi,
I am fairly new to the Android world and I have some questions for you guys.
So as I said the Atrix is my first Android phone I've already rooted it and done all the modification we, bell users, can do.
There is one thing that I think is really weird and its the widget positioning. Why do all widgets have 1/8 of free space on top, on bottom and on the side? And why is there already "pre-designed" area to put you widget in? It feels to me like I can't place them like I want... Am I doing something wrong or is there an option somewhere to remove that?
I tried searching Google for that but wasn't able to find the right word so I can get relevant results.
I am currently using Go Laucher.
Thanks for you help and sorry if there is some english mistake, english isn't my first language.
It is like a fixed grid, but you can have some more freedom/customization using apps like luncher pro

I'll try Laucher Pro then!
Thank you!

or using go launcher create a 5x5 grid, or use desktop visualizer to use custom icons all over, etc etc
LauncherPro Plus allows widget resizing. Get it if you dont already have it.
Stick with Go Launcher because 1) it's free and 2) it allows widget resizing without paying (ala Launcher Pro Plus).
Set your grid to 4x5 tight or 5x5 extra tight and you will have barely any margins on the sides.
I changed to 5x5 and it helped a lot!!
Thanks to everyone!
I've got a question slightly related, is there a way to set up the original homescreen launcher to come up when I press the home button because I got Go Launcher and pressing home only seems to go there and I have to kill it to get back to the original screen.

settings/applications/manage applications/go launcher/clear defaults
Thanks for the reply, I already did that but i can set the default for the home button as as the original launcher as long as I have other launchers installed, the original just doesn't show up in the list of choices. I have Launcher Pro as well as I was testing which I would like better but when I press home the list comes up with only Go & Pro launchers, I guess I'll just have to go with a third party one then it seems the default launcher doesn't get it's own app or whatever.
just uninstall them if you dont want to use 3rd party launcher....its that simple

[Q] Lost icons in TW Apps draw

I have been creating some folders for applications in my app pages - just to keep them organised. Create one called Photo and dropped in Camera and Gallery icons, then created a fe more folders, and suddenly the Folder has disappeared and the icons with it. My Camera and Galery icons are now only visible in the 'frequently used' tab by not the 'All' tab. A reboot has not brought them back. I can use the applications launched from the copy I have on my homescreen, but this seems weird that they have vanished. Device is a stock, unrooted , and no customisations whatsoever. Any help would be appreciated.
I had the same problem, I gave up trying to find a fix and just installed a new launcher (ADW Launcher ex, about $3), if you are looking for a new one I would suggest the new Go Launcher HD (it is free).

Go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>TWlauncher and clear data. All your icons will be back and the home screen will revert to stock. Drawback is you have to recustomise your home screens again.

Thanks, I have been trying to figure this out for a couple of weeks.
I have the sample problem. After creating some folders, some icons disappeared.
It should be a bug.
The icon will lost after made a update
Thanks for the solution, a frustrating bug which has made me try out go launcher HD. Very nice and smooth.

KitKat 4.4 - Can't add Home screens

Fresh install of 4.4 on my Nexus 7(2012). Also installed the new Google launcher apk, but I can't add any more home screens. Tried dropping an app to the right but a new home screen never appears.
Anyone else experience this?

Hi, erics88...
Yes, I have had the same problem... I think it's a bug in the LAUNCHER.APK itself... which is actually just a 'stub', that calls upon Google Search (which is now the real home launcher). And based on my experiments, the only way to make it work correctly, is to first enable Google Now.
Try the following... go to the GOOGLE SEARCH BAR at the top of the screen... and begin to type in some search word or phrase... You should see, in blue text, the words 'Get Google Now'... tap on this, and you'll be taken to a screen where you can optionally opt in to Google Now. Tap on the blue 'YES, I'M IN' button at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
A dialogue box should then appear, asking which Google Account (gmail account) to use. If you have more than one (as I have)... tap on the one you want to use. Press the BACK BUTTON to take you back to the launcher home screen.
You should now have Google Now 'cards' as a screen in it's own right (at the far left)... and dragging app icons toward the right hand edge of the screen should now dynamically create more home screens.
Apologies for the convoluted explanation... but it's really tricky explaining this stuff in a way that is understandable.
Anyway... hope this helps.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Nope - maybe need to re-install
Thanks for the help. My apologies for not giving all the details.
I have the Google Now cards showing up on the left screen but no matter what I try, I can not get a third screen. I used the same apk files on my Galaxy Nexus (rooted stock 4.3) and the Google launcher & Search work great, but I have the same issue. Only 2 Home screens and can't create another one by dragging an app icon towards the right.
Maybe I have a corrupt apk file. I'll try removing the launcher and search from both of my devices. Then I try to located the apk files from a different source. I'l post an update later this evening (EST)
Thanks again!
just a reminder.. make sure u have at least 1 shortcut in the 2nd home screen before trying to add a 3rd screen..
i tried million times to add a 3rd screen in vain when i left the 2nd screen empty (just wanna leave it blank and add some widgets later)..
a bug? i think so.. maybe google think otherwise..

Hi, iamelton...
I don't think it's a bug - I think it's intentional. Home screens are created dynamically, as and when you drag app icons to the right hand edge of the screen to create them.
Consider this... let's suppose you have five screens (excluding the Google Now screen), all with app icons on them... and the last screen contains just one app icon. For whatever reason, you either delete it, or drag it to the left in order to drop it onto screen number four. Screen number five vanishes.
Similarly, if you delete everything on the middle screen (screen number three in my five screen example), all the other screens will be 'pushed' to the left by one. The middle screen now no longer exists, because it is empty.
With Google Experience Launcher, unlike third party launchers such as Apex, Nova or Go Launcher, it's impossible to create launcher screens that are blank. They must have something on them... whether that be a widget, shortcut or an app icon.
To put it another way... in GEL, a launcher homescreen only exists if something is occupying it.

Ged.

yeah i understand the "ideal" embedded in the new GEL..
its just my own preference that i dont like the idea of dynamic screen handling..
say i wanna add a new screen in between screen no.3 and no. 4.. cant imagine an easy way to do this..
can only think of first adding a new screen 6, moving all apps from 5 to 6 (but leaving 1 in screen 5 to prevent the screen from being deleted), moving all apps from 4 to 5 (leaving 1 in screen 4 again), then adding my intended apps to screen 4, moving the 1 previous app in screen 4 to 5, and finally moving the 1 previous app in screen 5 to 6.. great now im done..
can u do better to beat me?
Thanks everyone for the help. I just started over with a new 4.4 install and used pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.4-20131118 instead of the launcher apk. Now I can add more screens, but I have a feeling my main screen might have been empty when I was trying to add a third screen earlier.
Might go back and try the launcher apk on my Galaxy Nexus 4.3 phone just to test this out.

UPDATE: Doh! yep, you need to have a icon/widget on your main screen before you can add a third screen.
Thanks iamelton!!!
Or just use Nova Launcher from the play store !

[Q] Nexus 5 - No way to remove widgets/icons from homescreen

I have a brand new Nexus 5 which I immediately flashed Omnirom(Nov 15th Nightly) onto. And the process went off without a hitch.
But the "remove" button does not show up when I long press a widget/icon on the homescreen in order to remove it. According to google, the only other instance of this error was on a Amazon Fire also on Omnirom(but there's no solution given).
Of course, I could be missing an obvious setting or something, so any advice would be helpful.
Thank you.

I will admit I don't use the default launcher, but did you try dragging the icon to the top (or bottom? I can't remember) of the screen? On Apex, dragging the icon to the top is the removal action. On some launchers, you'll see a trashcan appear somewhere when hold-dragging an icon.

Thanks guys. The remove button is at the top but it's invisible for some reason. (Weirdly, it's visible while editing widgets in the lockscreen)
And on the subject of custom launchers, could you guys recommend the most stable launcher for Omnirom?

On stock launcher this happens for me when you hide the search bar in settings.
It seems like the "remove" icon is also hidden if the checkbox is unchecked.
If you select to display the searchbar the icon will appear again.
