We need help from Original Axon 7 Developers If we want Root and Roms we need to give - ZTE Axon 7 Mini Questions & Answers

We need help from Developers who has worked on the Original (ZTE Axon 7) 5.5 Version. If we want our devices Rooted and Custom Roms we need to give every good developer that works hard for this community, we need to give them something to work for. We need to give them a Bounty if they can suceed in unlocing our bootloader and rooting our ZTE Axon 7 Mini.
Please pledge whatever you can afford even if its $5 the bounty will go to whoever can get our device rooted and unlock our bootloader.
LIST OF PLEDGES - PLEASE POST YOUR PLEDGES
drvsbsm - $20
So we are left to our great developers to make this happen. So place your pledges
I will keep this thread updated with all pledges that the people have made just post your pledge and I will add it to this first post. If you pledge, it will help. Developers have lives and they deserve to be compensated for thier time, we have really good developers and one of them will crack this for us. If someone happens to find a cheap Axon 7 Mini it would most likely help our developers crack our phone so they can work with the device and crack this phone, I know that if we dont get root or an unlocked bootloader this phone was really not worth it in my opinion and I will never buy from ZTE again unless they change thier policy and give us the same rights as they gave the Original Axon 7.

i have no problem with this either...... I have already heard UnjustifiedDev say he was going to receive his mini sometime this week and hopefully it won't be long thereafter. Says he's waiting for his device and N update to get started.

Put me down for $5. I just got my zte Axon 7 mini and really like it. Especially for only paying 199. But I can't believe we don't have twrp, or any roms. But maybe there waiting for nougat which is right around the corner.

According to UnjustifiedDev, Mini's are very hard to get right now and the ZTE development team for it is different than the Axon7 team. I would be happy to add $20 to this bounty, but it looks like we may have to raise the funds just to get a device in his hands so he can have a device to work WITH. Any ideas for this to happen would be greatly appreciated i'm sure, but if he can't get a device, then we are pretty much stuck.

So we have 45 as of now? I believe that Best buy is still selling them for 199.99. Like 215 with tax. I think that is the cheapest you can get right now.
Edit:. Just looked on eBay and thee are a few for 168. And no tax

We need a lot more people participating

It would be nice to get a large group together to finance this, but a lot of the people on the ZTE forums who own a mini are participating in the nougat beta test,so i suspect we won't hear anything from them for awhile.
Maybe we can get a worldwide group together and make it happen.

I don't have a clue how to organize it. But hopefully someone here does. I would hate to have to sell off my sweet little Mini for an upgrade before it's time.

Lol. Good one

i'll make a decent pledge in a few days when i get money. alternatively.. i would temporarily donate my 7 mini if i were 100% guaranteed to get it back in working condition, i like this phone but it still feels so ..empty. if that's in the realm of possibility, let me know!

I pledge $25 to developers to help Root this device & get TWRP.
I purchased this phone this week. I like the phone. The phone is really a good value for what you pay for it. Very well made, quality materials, construction & decent specs for the price.
Very disappointed to find out that there is no TWRP Recovery & No Root for ZTE Axon 7 Mini (B2017G).

Put me down for $10 also.

got my money up, put me down for $40!! so worth it.

This is looking really good!!! If you know a friend who is a dveloper and has worked onZTE devices before that might be a good start.

140 total
Many small numbers make one big

I'll Put down $10

Shoot, I'll do $20

You can get the axon 7 mini for 140 off swappa. There is 2 listing right now for 155, But i'm sure you can negotiate 140. Then send the phone to the dev. Looks like there is enough pledged for that now.

I´ll put 5 bucks, i dont have a job right now, but want root

Ugh...makes me sick

So here is some d-bag trying to make a profit off the hard work of the people here and on other dev sites. He is asking for $250 for the Fire.

-----------------------
I am selling a Kindle Fire with Android 4.0.3 on it. It works wonderfully and is in great shape. It has only been opened to be rooted and have android installed on it. The special recovery software is installed as well incase you try to change anything in the future and it messes it up, all youll have to do is restore it, and your back to the Kindle Fire operating system. It is basically a fully functional tablet like all the others without the camera or bluetooth. Youtube, gmail, bookmarks, google, the browser, android marketplace, and all the widgets work perfectly as if it came out of the box this way. That is the reason I am selling it for over $200, because it has so much more to offer rather than the standard Kindle Fire. If your interested, you can call or text me 651-500-5554. I would be willing to walk you through how to work it all and how to recover it incase you ever have a problem. I would also be willing to trade it for a HP Touchpad.

He is:
1. Selling the kindle more than you buy it for.
2. Illegally distributing the work of our developers.
Basically, it's just wrong. I would understand selling your services, but a kindle fire running ics is NOT worth 250...

I guess. I didn't know distributing software on a device you're selling was illegal. But I can definitely understand the not worth $250 thing.
If I were to ever sell mine I would ask more than you could buy a new one for because I put a lot of time into making it work as smooth as it does.
Nothing illegal about that it is just finding someone who is too lazy to do it themselves and making a few bucks.
There is NOTHING wrong with asking for more for a custom ROM'd device. Many people understand the shortcomings of the stock ROM, but are too hesitant to ever try a custom flash for fear of bricking it or whatever. An extra $50 for the competent efforts (which is the value added feature here) is probably a reasonable price to charge.
I wouldn't pay it because I'm comfortable with the process, but I've also invested considerable time just learning about the process myself before ever attempting a ROM flash.
He is selling his service of having put it onto the device.
Honestly, a person is allowed to ask what they want for the item they're selling. If I don't agree with the price being asked, I negotiate a price I'm comfortable with or move on. Doesn't make that person a con. As for making a buck off developers work, that's the drawback of an open source software - akin to someone selling a PC with Linux on it. Just my 2 cents. But I agree - I wouldn't pay that for the kindle fire personally when you can get one for $199 and do the work yourself.

1. How is that wrong? If the person buying it is willing to pay $250 where is the harm?
2. Illegal????? Android is open source people can freely distribute it.

Exactly what I was gonna say. I charge people 40-60 bucks on Craigslist to root, and place a custom ROM on their device. There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he is doing and I would venture to say that the OP is just jealous. Lol.

Nah, not jealous as I could easily do what he is doing. So your ventured guess is completely wrong.
I guess perhaps I'm the only one then who has a problem with someone abusing that hard work devs put into doing these hacks and custom roms for us by charging money and misrepresenting what they are selling...like this a-hole doesn't say that video doesn't work very well, that it is an alpha build of ICS, etc.
I'm stunned how many on here "support" this type of behavior. My faith in humanity just continues to go downhill...morals...ethics...decency...who needs that ****? Oh well...
So because we don't agree with you, we are automatically siding with the person selling the tablet????
Hes not selling the software, hes selling the tablet that hes rooted, flashed, etc.. hence the higher price. Hes not doing anything illegal.
If i didnt know anything about rooting, flashing, etc.. I would look for one that was pre-flashed to save me the hassle of possibly bricking the tablet in the process, its not so black and white as you think it is.
If he was just selling the firmware and the tools to do it then he would be 100% in the wrong.

Actually you are making it black and white with only an understanding that if it is not illegal then it is perfectly okay and if it is illegal then there is a problem. If anything, I'm viewing it in the shades of gray by saying that, while not illegal, it is reprehensible.
Anyway, like I said...forget I posted this. It appears I am "in the wrong" with the majority and I should never have even considered that others might also have a problem with it. Silly me...I will proceed to clean the egg off my face.

Perhaps illegal was the wrong choice of words. how about immoral. I understand that some people can not install custom roms on their own, but i do not believe that installing a rom is worth $50. That's just my two cents.
Well I don't think it's worth $50 because I can do it myself for free. And part of the fun is hacking into it and customizing it the way you want it.
However, if I knew nothing about this stuff (and lets face it, the average user doesn't) then I would say $50 is about right.
Look at it this way. He is not selling the ROM or software, he is selling his services. If he put up an ad offering to root and install a custom ROM on the KF for $50, would that be a problem?
I don't think so.
I don't see what's so wrong about it. He's doing a service for people and in no way harming the development of this device. It's no different from someone buying a car, fixing it up, and reselling it at a higher value.
This may be a valid issue if he's claiming the work to be his own which he is not.
If some people are too lazy to spend 30min rooting the KF, just let them spend the extra 50$ on it
Theres nothing wrong with the seller, but I cant say the same for the buyer tho lol
Nobody knows.... Maybe this guy has made a donation to the developers of the software he uses
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I live in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the price for new kindle fire is almost US$300 a piece, then if you want to have it rooted, install custom ROM and others, you would surely have to pay $30-$50 more. I do my own rooting and other stuff because I am comfortable with the technical stuff, other people who are not comfortable will surely be happy to pay for the service
I work for a software company that sells and supports only GPL-ed software. Our licenses to our customers start in the low 5-figures of US$ - a year. There is nothing immoral about it, and the licenses we have from upstream developers permit this business activity provided we follow the terms of the license (including providing source code on demand to our customers).
So, in my view, the ethics of the situation are a matter of respecting the licenses under which the developers make their ROMS and other software available to us, and the sticking to the terms of those licenses regarding redistribution.
Unfortunately, it appears that most developers in this area don't state their intent for redistribution, or protect themselves and their software by stating that there's a specific license. On the other hand, one sees a fair amount of software from the Android Market that does have licenses such as the GPL. That's regardless of whether the software is "payfer" or "free beer".
Lacking that, I don't see why someone like the guy reselling the modified Kindle couldn't just drop a line to the developer in question. Even without a statement from the developer, he still retains copyright for his own work.

The ridiculous thing about the Arc/Arc S

Hello to you all, once again
I've been an android user since the beggining and i always loved the free part of it. I mean the free development, the free will and the free sharing of it. The arc s is my 3rd android phone and sadly i see that apart from the free development, free will and free sharing, there are people who charge you for "services" that could well be shared. I see the threads of my early phones and they florish but this one it gets stuck, over and over. Its a competitive world, i get it. but i think that here in xda, which is a forum i follow since my earliest and survivour omnia, it was all about sharing knowledge and experience with each other. Anyway, just a thought.
I think the problem with Arc is that there is no easy / free way of unlocking the bootloader for people who have their phone from a carrier. And without unlocked bootloader there are no custom ROMs..

If it costs the devs to unlock our phone ,you can hardly expect them to pay that .
Most of the dev here is free the only thing I ve seen that is been charged for is bl unlocking.
PS. if a stranger stopped and fixed your car for free ,would u offer him a few quid ?
Now image that the stranger is the other side of the world using his computers, internet and free time developing for a phone he may not even use (ie fxp serve all 2011 xperias + some 2010 and I'm sure they don't personally use them all).
In my opinion people have to have some consideration and appreciation. devs use a lot of their resources to help our community and if everyone gave a few quid donation from that bowl of penny's everyone has ,to the person who has helped u
It not a big deal really is it?
Also I am not a dev or anything ,just someone who gives a little to get a lot.

There is reason why our developers are not hacking the bootloader for Sim locked ones. Since Sony has provided us with the option unlock bootloader for sim free devices they don't want to screw up the relationship with Sony developers.

I agree dev should get paid or compinsated for there work. Its the carriers or Sony that has lost the concept here .Putting out a phone that requires us to pay money to use it to its true full extent...as a previous x10 owner I loved the fact that I could flash a new rom once a week if I choose too . i815 for Tab 7.7 Cyanogenmod Development

Hi Everyone,
As some of you may know, I broke the screen on my tab awhile ago. I only recently managed to secure the funds to repair the screen, however, seeing as I live in the US, it will still take me a good while to get my device fixed.
What I would prefer is to instead use an i815 as my main development system, and use the p6810 I have to make sure that I don't break anything for the international users. This will make it easier for me if I have any future hardware issues since I only have to deal with the US branch of Samsung and Verizon. It will also mean that I can add support for the i815 with my CM port much more easily. Also, it would mean that I could get back to developing more quickly as I would not have to wait for my device to return.
I cannot afford to purchase a new tab at this time, however, many people have been very generous and have asked to donate. I am very hesitant to the idea of donating for the reasons I discuss in at the bottom of this post (make sure you read it). However, since many people are eager for me to be able to start developing again, and for support on the i815, I figured it is fair to allow people to donate to that cause.
I have not yet gotten my screen repaired (although I have started along the track of getting it repaired), so depending on the interest and amount people donate, I might not get my screen repaired and instead use the money I've saved up to help in purchasing an i815. Regardless of whether I repair my screen or not, I intend to fully support the international versions of the Tab 7.7 (after all, I've done a ton of work for them already ).
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ THE REST OF THIS POST BEFORE CLICKING ON THE DONATE BUTTON
locerra said:
The reason why I don't like to take donations is because, despite the name, when people "donate" they frequently (sometimes subconsciously) expect a product in return (in this case a fully functional CM9). That is something that I cannot guarantee since I only do this as a hobby and may not have the knowledge and/or time to fix all of the current outstanding issues. As long as this is very clear to people and they promise not to dirty this thread with requests for ETAs and whatnot, I might consider donations.

Do you mean other than VOIP solutions like Skype? If so, I doubt it. You would have to get Verizon to sign off on having a plan with minutes on your tablet, which I very much doubt they would do since as far as official firmware goes the Tab 7.7 is a data only device. Since they don't do voice over LTE yet, you also can't just swap SIM cards.
Data is probably going to take a bit to get going anyway -- there are no Samsung devices running ICS with CDMA or LTE, other than the just recently (or soon to be) released Galaxy S III (at least as far as I know).
Would it help if I told you I can put my VZW sim from my Galaxy Nexus and 4G/3G work fine and switch between the two modes? There might be an extra modem that needs to be flashed to a specific partition but I don't think a plan from VZW will be the issue getting it to work.

Well the thing is, its patched up well from Loki, that doesn't mean it has absolutely no way of being unlocked. While I don't think adding a bounty is going to suddenly get the bootloader unlocked, it can't hurt to add an incentive to draw low-level coders to develop for the HDX.
Edit: This is at least my take on it, from what information I've gathered.

Ive already had $40 put in for a bounty on this for a month and a half now.
Put me down for 20.
Sure, throw me in for $20
Put me in for 50$
Why is this thread not fixed under the forum rules? Plenty of people may have missed it since December, I think it's in our best interest to keep it in page 1.
Also I don’t know if gbrewha's extra device is still available but if it is he might want to offer it here.

While I am all for unlocking the bootloader, and I believe that this might be good to keep on the front page to combine all 3? I think of these threads into a single unified bounty page, the idea of a bounty for the bootloader has been discussed multiple time. My guess is Hashcode or Gsleon or Cpasjuste may comment on this again, but while a bounty is a good idea, we mostly need to find a dev who is willing and has the time to work on this and get them a device. We can have a bounty all we want, but this device isn't currently attracting a ton of developers to it. We have a couple very good ones, but no low-level Qualcomm specialists. I personally think a better idea would be a thread that is designed to get an hdx or two into the hands of a couple good specialists, not necessarily with a monetary prize if they actually unlock it (although that isn't a bad idea). I don't really know anyone who specializes in bootloaders or things of that nature, but I think if you really want the bootloader unlocked attracting their attention is in order before we start throwing money at a role we can't fill.

Sure, we could use the bounty to buy one kindle HDX per $200 gathered and send them to interested known devs. You can definitely count my $20 for that.
I think what we really need is someone to unite/moderate all these far too scattered good initiatives into one good always on top thread, hunt some devs, and overall show the community this is actually getting somewhere and that it is worth investing.
updated the OP ... up to a whopping 255 bucks. i figured the 16 gig people would have been up for this since safestrap severely cuts down on our storage. i bought this for the amazon video downloads for trips. anyway i'd be ok with using the money for an HDX to a reputable dev. I know bootloaders these days are a long shot.
unfortunatly, the only device i have that i can flash roms on right now is my Touchpad, as my Moto X and HDX are locked down hard

[BOUNTY] P605V Verizon 10.1 2014--Unlocked Bootloader

I am going to begin a bounty to all of our devs of $100 to whomever can get a working unlocked bootloader for the Verizon 4GLTE P605V Samsung Galaxy 10.1 2014 edition. It's complete nonsense that going as far back as far as April (the first post I found searching for this) that there isn't a solution.... If you own this tablet variant as well, please jump on board.
Most devs for the 10.1 2014 have moved to the pro version. So this may be really hard to get. if you look at the unlocked versions there is little to no support for them right now as well.
Sent from my T-Mobile HTC One M8
All the Verizon/Samsung locked bootloaders have been unlockable to date as well as the AT&T varieties. Check the S4, Note 3 and S5 threads.

I don't really care about the S4, my Note 3 is already unlocked, and could care less about the S5 as well. What I AM concerned with is getting my 10.1 2014 Verizon edition unlocked so I can actually get TWRP on it an put on custom ROM's. For a forum filled with lots of experts and geniuses, no one seems to want to take any time or make any effort. I am literally begging! Using any version of Odin has failed trying to get TWRP on my tablet. All the ROMs I have looked at say to install that as a prerequisite. So what is a guy to do? Should I just put a round from my .45 through it and call it a day? I am outside the 14 day return window now with Verizon, so unless someone can give me a clue as to what I am doing wrong, then I am royally screwed..........

You are missing the point. Bootloaders are not a simple security hack. They are the proprietary coding that allows the device to boot. There is NO decompiling, sorting through code, figuring out the lock and then unlocking it. There needs to be an exploit to get in and change it. Which means there is a 99% chance the wrong exploit attempt will brick the device...an not the "brick" all these people talk about mistakenly on this site...a REAL brick...dead paperweight. Think that it is an issue with this sites "geniuses" not wanting to do it? Maybe you would understand better if you blindfolded yourself and tried to assemble a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle....only you get an electric shock with every wrong piece you play.
I mentioned the other devices not to see if you "care"...it is to let you know the same method is employed to lock those as your tablet and they are just as popular with the "geniuses" that genuinely want to unlock the bootloader. AND have large bounties on them.
As to what are you supposed to do? Research next time. Buy products from a carrier that does not lock down their devices or buy a device that is not a commercial push to the military and corporate so that Verizon wants it locked down tight for more sales and contracts. Or continue to hold your breath throwing this tantrum you seem to be doing. Or...I don't know...use the tablet as it was designed to be used when sold and seems to work fine for the millions of customers who know nothing of XDA or rooting.

I would have to say that in reading text, it is generally hard to understand the tone of the text. While I wasn't throwing a tantrum, the tone of your reply is pretty unmistakable. When someone comes here genuinely looking for help and assistance with a device, is it a general practice to publicly belittle and berate them? As to my bounty, I started off low to see if others would jump on board or not. As to my carrier, I have been with Verizon from day one, get a rather large corporate discount from them on devices and accessories, and have 6 lines through them, so why just to get this tablet to do what I want it to, would I change carriers? Every device that I have had in the 'smart'phone era has been Verizon, and someone has found a way to unlock them. So I apologize if I came of looking like a prick, as that was not at all my intention. I would gladly personally pay up to $100.00 if someone could help. It is very frustrating to only be able to do half of what I want to achieve with my tablet. I'm as far as I personally can go on it. If anyone was offended by my wording, again, I am sorry for that. BTW, I changed the avatar that was only taken offense to after my post. Have a happy Sunday Funday! I know I will as I am already on bloody Mary number 4 here.

Your phrase that asks if you should put a bullet into your tablet certainly sounded like a bit of a tantrum. Sorry if I somehow misconstrued that. Then also sounding like you were belittling XDA developers because they did not unlock the bootloader yet.. Sounded a bit entitled. There are devices years old that have never been unlocked. I have done my best to explain why there should never be a time limit or expectations of the bootloader ever being unlocked yet you also shot that down as selfishly exclaiming you did not care about those examples and were only concerned about what matters to you. Did I leave anything out? Sorry if I somehow misinterpreted any of that. Sounds like you need to start making a decision as to what is more important to you, your corporate discount or an unlocked bootloader. Have your bounty but I already explained older Verizon devices with the same locked bootloaders has stumped the security geniuses so far.
$100
$100.00
$150.00?
The devs were never really all that involved with this tablet. It is highly unlikely they will unlock the Verizon version unless they figure out the other Samsung products. Even if they would unlock the tablet you my not get any devs that are willing to port their Roms over to the Verizon version.

Say my friend..don't give up There are to many smart people at this forum... (and other forums) Trust me just have to be patient lol.. I am in the same boat some one will figure this out..
OK, I have a SM-P605v with a broken LCD (not the screen itself, but the display is discolored and not displaying correctly). It was previously Rooted and I have gotten screen emulators working when hooked up to my laptop. I would be willing to donate this to any Dev willing to work on the exploit. If there is a risk of bricking the device, then rest assured it's no biggie since the screen is bad on it. Please PM me if you are interested.
It's been a while now, anyone figure it out yet?....................................................
Has anyone tried the unlock script for the note 3 and note 4?
Here is the link to note 3.

I just got a SM-P605 that is unlocked. Once I figure out where the kernal came from perhaps I can be of help here. I really want to get this thing rooted and connected with my carrier. I had had a SM-P600, but it was smashed and could not be repaired. That's why I bought this tablet. Otherwise this P605 is totally stock and runs like a very well behaved powerhouse should.
Rob
i looked at this page it says u need root to use this .

but dont you need a unlocked bootloader to get root ?
No you don't need unlocked bootloader to root. I think I used towel root years ago to root this tablet.

You know I really loved my SM-P600, but it was badly damaged and I don't know how or where to order in the left speaker, on/off switch from. So got really frustrated advanced ordered an SM-P605v instead and was able to get one that has an unlocked boatloader. I've not rooted it yet, or mounted TWRP on it. I may not root it though I'd like to. Even so, I'm looking into it and while, though I'm extremely happy with it,I may eventually root it.
I've explored a lot of options so far and none of them, so far, work for an SM-P605v running Android 5.1.1.
I'll get back with you about a week from now.
By the way, this tablet, and the SGN Pro are still much more powerful and capable than the Surface Pro or IPad Pro. This, even though they are getting a little older.
By the way,I spoke to a friend of mine who owns the large IPad Pro today. Apple hasn't optimised the Home screen yet, even after all these months. You'd think they'd have done better by their consumer base by now.
Even so, I'm so pleased with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1(2014), both with the SM-P600, and the SM-P605. Unless Samsung releases a Tab A that has an S Pen and 32 gigs memory, or releases a substantial upgrade to the SM-P600,SM-P605, and SM-P607, or puts out a new SGN in the series with 64 our 128gigs internal, I'm not open to trading my tablet in. It'll be over my cold, dead body.
This whole thing just died from no interest other than from me, huh?
