LG G6 light bleed? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Anyone else have this on the AOD? Not a huge deal, just curious. Sorry for the low quality photo...

I do! Only on AOD though. Any other black screen I have no bleed at all, but for some reason AOD likes to give off some.

Always On Display

Got the same bleeding on mine as well

Very common on LCD panel screen. My first two V20 got it, just different corner.

Don't have it there but I have it along the top side of the screen but it doesn't look that bad.

I believe that is just the nature of design. I've read elsewhere that light bleed is almost impossible to avoid 100% with IPS displays.
Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk

Mine doesn't have that but it does have a screen that isn't uniform. The bottom of the screen right above the navigation bar has a warm tint to it making it look sort of yellow compared to the rest of the screen. I'm returning it. I can't look at a screen that isn't uniform. The AOD looks fine though. If the replacement I get has the light bleed on the AOD I'll be returning it.

It's not a light bleed.
It's a special LED only lightning up, when AOD display is enabled.
When seen at 0 LUX your eyes will see it lightning up from bottom. This way the phone won't use the full backlight of the display to only light up at night. It's a side effect from not having AMOLED display.

I am not sure if this is from the lighting zones on HDR displays, or if LG implemented extra leds at the bottom of the display just for the AOD. Pretty nifty trick to get low light and power consumption on an IPS panel.
The light streak effect that looks like light bleed is due to light falloff as it moves from the bottom LED through the diffuser behind the LCD. So nothing wrong with your displays.
If you want to test light bleed; open a full screen black image in a very dark room. My screen lighting was perfectly even.

mine is exact the same. glad that im not the only one i was ready to send it back lol

Oh, here is why I notice that only with AoD :victory:

What excatly am i looking at ? Do we have what on AoD ? That brighter screen like that ? Yeah when the phone is under some sort of light ( sun, lamps during night ) when in total dark it dims... )

Nothing wrong with your phone, it's normal behavior for LCD displays. It's not AMOLED.

My G6 has it at the same place. I think it's the way AOD is implemented.

oled screen issue?

can you guys try this out and tell me if you see this on your screens. first turn down the brightness and go to a web page with lots off black text. on my screen everything black leaves a faint line across the screen wherever there is a black pixel from right to left. do you guys see this? out is much less noticeable when the brightness is turned up.
I've seen a tiny hint of this in my screen, but it hasn't bothered me. If it's severe in your phone, you may want to contact HTC.

yes I notice this as well but I have to say that is only noticeable with backlight set to minimum, and i think it's a normal behaviour of an amoled screen. Now I have one question about the screen too:
When I'm watching pics or movies the screen has a very good resolution. For all the rest the screen seems a bit dotted and grainy, especially with text. For example in the app launcher where the app's names are written in white and the background is black the text is not extremely clear and if I take a closer look theres seems to be pink pixelss on the letter's edges. I can notice this thing almost evrywhere but I think it's a lot more clear to see with text and the backlight set to max. do you manage to see this too or do you think that's because i have a defective phone?

the grainyness on thin objects like text is 100% normal, its just how these OLED displays work.
This guy did some awesome research into the graininess issue using a macro lens on his camera. Really interesting stuff...

Eheh it's me that started that thread and i think that guy really did a great job trying to explain what's the problem... now i'm curious to know how many people notices this because till now it seemed that only me and that guy could see this "issue" so sometimes i'm still worried i have a faulty phone...it won't be a good thing since I'm from italy and getting a replacement phone wouldn't be very easy

No, mine experiences the same thing. Seems like reds are more biased when less power is given to the LEDs (not exactly a "backlight"). This is slightly noticeable on the lowest brightness setting too.
And mine experiences the "black line" issue too. I guess it's just how OLED screens work.

Does it look like this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628270

Another display issue?

My display had purple tint and I changed the phone today and got a new one. Its better now and significany less pink color.
Also I now discovered something that the pink tint is only visible when u look at the screen 90 degrees. If u tilt the phone a little (5-10 degrees) to left-right or up-down and view like that the color turns normal (like my year old sgs).
It made me realise that this is a screen coating issue (maybe coating causes polarisation). So do u think this will go away with the time of use?
When I turn off the screen and check it under light by tilting I can see a little purple glare.
What do u think?
Do you have this on your phones?
My sgs, when the screen is off if you look the screen under light has a bluish color/glare.
However sgs2 when I look under light, screen turned off has a purple glare.

he didn't need to taken it off
mine was without screen protector and there was purple glare on screen
now I'm really happy because it's not just me who has this purple glare on screen
this does not matter I like this phone
I find the problem when it is directly under bright light only...even when bright sunlight, it doesn't give me the glare...so it is not really a problem, I don't have a bright light in my room lol
Purple glare is not a problem but it causes phone to display purplish whites and greys when the screen brightness at low. At night, If I look 90 degrees to phone whites are creamy greys have a pink hue however when I view the screen from a little different angle (if i tilt like 5 degrees) whites are cool and greys are perfect.
Well maybe my sgs has a blue tint and cool colors that's why I feel a huge difference. Cuz when I compared my iPod touch 2nd Gen. IPod's color is more pinkish tthan my sgs2.
I don't have screen protector yet but I was hoping putting one would fix that purplish tint issue. So it doesn't.

OK. They are awesome but do you have anything to say about the issue that I am having? If u share with us will be appreciated. I wanna know if there are perfect screens wwithout this issue or all phones have?
I meant that I do not see any tint on my screen.
I have a Bell version, made in China.
The only thing that is bothering me is grease fingerprints marks.
Otherwise this is the best screen on market right now.

I have bell too. Where did you get your phone? I would like to go to the store that u bought to compare mine. Phones in the store that i got mine all have the same issue. This is my 3rd phone from the same store and they are already sick of me going there to change everyday. Maybe it's a batch problem. Are u in Toronto? If u are could u tell me the store name?
I've bought it in the TBooth in Eaton center
I checked all the phones in eaton center and they all have different screens. Mostly they have yellowish tint. One phone in future shop was worst than mine(purple)
One of the 6 display phones in bell had a perfect screen. Which made me hesitate about changing my phone. What are the odds to get a perfect screen?
The phones which have yellow tint their colors look pale to me. Only problem is mine, certain grays look purplish. Such as the status bar buttons. In a dark room with 0 brightness they have a purple tint.
when I tilt the phone that purplish color goes away.
What color the pull down status bar buttons should look like? What is your color?
Dude there are always will be some imperfection in any device.
Stop nitpicking, enjoy your phone.

How much light bleed is too much?

I have a few spots on the top of my screen and they appear to be getting worse with use? Is it OK to RMA for any light bleed?
What is tech support'a view on this?

Can someone post a picture of what light bleed looks like?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

This is a good example of really bad light bleed
Anything greater than zero is too much. Mine has no bleed at all, even when turned up to full brightness in a dark room.
My returned unit is similar to the picture posted above. I have my 4th unit awaiting pick-up today from Future Shop...hopefully the 4th time is a charm...
The best way I've found to check for bleed is go into your options, display/brightness, turn off automatic adjustment, and set it to 0% brightness. It'll be obvious if you have any issues then. At 100% it's unnoticeable as it is flooding the screen.
Most all devices will have some light bleed from the edge of the screen IF you turn the device at a steep angle and are in a dark place. Anything more then this or any noticeable bleeding looking directly at the device is way way too much..
Just my opinion .

yellow screen?

Is this normal or do I have a faulty unit?

What is the other phone? Go to settings -> display -> color mode and set color to normal, that will normalize it a little. It's set on vibrant by default. Regardless of that setting though, the screen on this phone is a "warm" one compared to others. The phone on the left is "cold" and bluish in comparison. Warm screens are a little more yellow/red, cold are blue. If the other phone is AMOLED there's your reason, but even if it's LCD, it's just tuned a bit differently. You should know that the phone on the left isn't producing a perfect white either, just a kind of white you're used to. Personally I prefer a warm screen, I find colder screens harder on my eyes.
TLDR- it's working as intended.
Unless you screwed with some settings no that isn't normal. If my whites were that yellow I'd return it. While an LCD might never be as white or black as an amoled it shouldn't look like 20 year old yellow paper either. WIth LCDs if you lower the brightness the screen will become more colored but nothing like that. You can also go compare it to some phones at the store that have LCD's and get an idea if its out of whack.
I spoke to two different support people at motorola ...one said it was normal for this phone as the screen was optimized for gaming?? .....the other said it was not normal and I should return it.
I tried using the app 'screen adjuster' to boost the blue light and it did indeed make it look white rather than yellow so it seems to be a color temperature setting so I'm still not sure wether changing the phone would make any difference and I can't compare in stores because they don't have them yet.
p.s. the other phone is an LG G2 which is LCD
Mine seems to have a little yellow at low screen brightness but it doesn't seem as bad as in your photo. I probably would not have noticed if not for this thread. Is your screen brightness low? Mine gets more white as the brightness goes up.

If it bothers you you can go through the return process and see if another one is different. My phone looks pretty much the same next to my Galaxy Note n-7000. That's AMOLED, but AMOLED or not, screens can be bluish. For perspective, here's what white looks like for reference. Neither of the phones are producing white. One is bluish, one is yellowish. Do you notice it when you're not comparing phone screens? After a few minutes of looking at the screen, going from app to app or looking at pictures, do white things register as white?

I noticed it had a very warm color temp immediately I turned it on, and then got my other phones to compare ....it does bother me yes ...it's like having a TV with a yellowish screen ....I'm pretty sure it can be fixed with a software update and is not a hardware problem which is why I'm not sure if returning the phone would accomplish anything unless I see some other pures to compare

Moto g 4 plus: screen is much yellowish (warm)

I've started using this phone yesterday. There seems to be a yellowish tint on the screen. Also, the brightness fluctuates at times while browsing. The Screen in its entirety has a warm color to it. The whites don't appear truly white, they have a yellowish tint to them.
Anyone facing similar issues/ knows how to resolve them?
Go to settings, then display and then change the color mode to Vibrant. It serves its purpose in Moto G4 Plus! If your yellowish tint is still not gone, then it must be the screen guard which you might have applied. Always go for Tempered Glass protector or even the Glossy to get that pure vibrant experience on the phone. Never go for Matte as it makes the view dull and pale. Good luck!

Dude, yellowish tint on LCD displays is not exclusive for a Moto G4 line. It´s a manufacturing process and could came yellowish or blue tint on it...
If you want a non yellowish display, go for amoled display phones and u be safe.
If you don´t like yellow tint, try to call a replacement, and maybe, next time u get a non yellow tint display...
Or try to use an app called screen adjuster free avaiable for free on playstore. With the app, u can adjust colors on display at your own taste...
