How to downgrade - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Firstly, I want to thank the community for all of the wonderful information and work they have done. I truly appreciate it.
But, I was wondering if there are any issues going from an android 7.1 rom to a 6.0 rom. Because, I am currently running the MIUI 8 rom that is 6.0 and I love it, I have always been a fan of MIUI. But, I would like to try out nougat and see how some of those roms run.
I have looked quite a bit for any information on this that is specific to the oneplus 2, but I can't seem to find anything. I am totally willing to jump through a bunch of hoops in order to accomplish this goal, I just need to know what these hoops are.
So, if anyone could help me out with this I would really appreciate this.
Thank you for your time and keep up with the good work everyone

MIUI is based on H2OS. I recommend having OOS 3.5.6 firmware for nougat roms. Now I'm not quite sure what the process is for going back to OOS but someone should be able to guide you through it. Then its just as simple as wiping and flashing a nougat rom.

Well, when I install a new rom, I usually wipe everything but the internal data. So, from that perspective, does it matter what rom I had installed before I performed the wipe?

No but the firmware matters, aka which modem firmware 3.5.6 or 3.1.0
I'm not sure but I think the h2os modem firmware is different to the 3.5.6 but I could be wrong

Well, I decided to perform an experiment for everyone and instead of reverting to any other rom, I just wiped like I usually do and installed the Cosmic rom. Everything seems to be working

Good for you then. But I higly recommend OOS 3.5.8 firmware as it appears to have fixed network drops for a lot of people. Again I'm not really sure how the roms will handle these fixes but it shouldn't pose any issues.

Opinions on best root method, ROM & Kernal for SM-n9005 (lollipop 5.0)

Hi guys,
Been reading these forums for the last few hours but still struggling to make my mind up...I would like to know your opinions on the best method of rooting my phone (SM-n9005 on lollipop 5.0) and what ROM and kernal you recommend please? The most important factor for me is stability/lack of bugs but without going back to an earlier version of android. Or would that mean that it would make more sense to keep the stock ROM/kernal?
I apologise in advance for any stupid questions as I am pretty new to this but very eager to tinker!
Thanks!
my choice!

* Root via CF Auto Root
* Flash AryaMod ROM (via TWRP)
* Flash Lean Kernel 6.3 (via TWRP)
Well my choice for rooting is simple. Install a custom recovery (TWRP), then flash the SuperSU zip from there, done.
My preferred custom ROM (for you) would be Arya, cause it comes with lots of features, and it's based on stock Samsung TW ROM, so its stable as hell.
Kernel? Well I am sorry to say I can't say that, probably Audax? I am on Stock at this moment, and all I know if I move to a custom kernel it will be Audax at this moment, cause honestly I don't see any reason to use any other kernel other than that. I prefer a kernel for its additional features, and those aren't available then I don't see any point of using a custom kernel

Thanks a lot for the help! By the sounds of it then, i will definitely go with the Arya ROM...I'm assuming this and Aryamod are the same thing? Also, will this offer many more advantages as the stock ROM and will it be as stable? The main reason i have decided to root my phone is to get more out of apps requiring root and to get rid of bloatware.
With regards to the kernal, i guess being a novice, all i understand is that they can improve battery performance and phone performance so i would like to go for one fitting this. Unless i have missed the idea completely lol
Thanks again mate

This is Arya mate, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/rom-aryamod-v1-tw-lollipop-t2990920
Yes, the ROM is damn stable, as stable as stock ROM, I used the ROM for almost two months, and in fact I am downloading it now, getting bored of stock ROM.
Yes, kernel can improve battery life and performance, if you know what to tweak.

Thanks a lot! I'm just backing up my phone then I'm going to try to root it and install the ROM tonight! I think i'll leave the custom kernal for a while so I can see how i get on with the stock kernel. At least then i'll hopefully be able to compare once i do flash a new one.
Thanks for being patient

Sure mate, we are here to help. Just do a wipe before doing all that, cause without wiping the ROM and all its features might not work and the ROM won't be stable anyway. Wipe everything from TWRP, under Advanced wipe section, except external SD card of course. Take a backup beforehand. Remember, if you do that advanced wipe thing, then you won't have anything on your phone, so better download Arya before doing all that.

I've managed to root it without any problems so I'm well chuffed
I decided to get the hang of titanium backup and TWRP backup before i start messing about too much with custom ROMS. Which for me, is a very sensible decision
I've been looking at the Arya rom which like you said, seems amazingly stable now, and the Darklord N5 or S6 port, which apparently is stable now too. Do you have any experience with the Darklord N5 or S6 ROMs? How do these compare to the Arya? Lastly, now that I've rooted it, is there much to gain from a custom ROM as it seems that you can get many different apps to customise different things whilst keeping the stability of the OEM ROM?

Unfortunately I don't posses any idea about those ROMs mate. As much as I would like to respect and admire those developers (you have no idea how hard it is to do even a simple mod, let alone a full ROM like that), at the same time I will have to say almost all the ported ROMs have some sort of issues, be it S6 or Note 5 or Note 4, yes, they might be negligible to some, but I want my phone to be performing as stable as possible. And as Arya is based on Stock Note 3 firmware there is no chance of any instability. But if you find Darklord Note 5 port stable and don't encounter any problem then use it, by all means. Heck if Samsung doesn't release 5.1.1 i next couple of months then I too obviously will that route, but for now 5.0 is okay enough for me.
And yes, with a custom ROM you can do a lot of things as you have already experienced. You rooted it to install the custom ROM, and then there are the ROM features which need root, so yes, custom all the way. This is coming from a stock ROM lover by the way, but as I said before, Arya is as stable as a stock ROM, and comes with some really handy features additionally, so its a simple decision for me

[H918] Random Reboots on Custom Roms

So, I had a day 1 v20 that began randomly rebooting back in december. Thought it was a hardware issue and finally got around to replacing it the other day. Now, after getting the replacement v20 set up on a custom rom (AICP) I'm seeing random reboots again. I've tried every single custom rom available for the h918 and they all experience reboots. When i've asked about the issue in the threads it seems as if I'm the only one. It appears to be a custom-rom only problem that apparently no one else is experiencing? The kernel panics are being caused by the modem, and it started happening when I upgraded to the 10j base. This replacement also came with 10j. Am I just super unlucky with two duds or is there really something going on here?
TLDR; Anyone else with a h918 with 10j bootloader/modem running custom roms and seeing random reboots?
What kernel do you use? If you use Konverged, it seems to give random reboots after a while of use. I noticed that right away though.

Have always left kernel stock.
Are you making sure that you are wiping data when flashing a rom? Clean install should help. What other things do you use? When does it crash? Maybe a root app is causing this???

This is a fresh replacement device with a clean rom install. There was no data to wipe. Happens even without any apps installed and it's completely random and cannot be reproduced. The only thing I know is the modem is causing the kernel panics.

The entire point here is that I don't want to run stock or anything based on stock. I would simply chalk it up to the Lineage base but since I'm one of a serious minority having this problem I'm led to believe it's something simpler that can be fixed. Possibly related to 10j as most custom ROM users are still running 10d firmware

Anything not based on stock will give you issues. One reason why I like stock based roms is because the second screen will actually work... I would atleast test a stock based rom to see how it goes. If it works and doesnt crash, Then something is wrong with the rom or your could be flashing it wrong :/ Idk, just an idea to test. Non stock roms will Always give you issues. Always
If you still have issues on a stock based rom, then I would downgrade with the kdz and try again. Its probably crashing since the modem is 10j and the rom isnt really fit for that.

I never used the second screen, it's more of a nuisance for me. Everything it did can be replaced by gestures and lockscreen settings on custom. Only thing I miss is notifications but that's why we have ambient display.
I might try downgrading to the 10i firmware to see what happens. Unfortunately there are no 10d flashables. Otherwise this ROM is flawless.

Not to shoot down your opinion, but why would you get it if the Second screen is a nuisance to you?? Im also pretty sure camera is screwed on custom roms.... I just dont have that appeal. Its better safe than sorry to check and see if a stock rom works fine than to downgrade and it still doesnt work :/ Idk thats my 2 cents

It was between this and the axon 7. I didn't want a fullHD screen so that eliminated a lot of the other options.

Not a Samsung fan. Especially with KNOX. I buy phones first based on the chances of development producing workable custom ROMs and second based on hardware features.
Back to the main topic: I just managed to flash the 10i modem alone so we'll see what happens. I'm working on extracting the 10d modem as well.

UPDATE: Flashing the 10i modem made no difference, still having random reboots (although they seem less frequent), I will try the 10d modem once I find a way to extract it from the TOT files posted on this forum.

Quick Question

So I am on H91810q and I have kept root through the upgrades. Am I still able to flash another rom like LineageOS or am I stuck with stock since I upgraded so far?
Try it -- it isn't going to break your phone
Probably isn't going to run to well on new firmware though. Most of the heavy development was done on much older firmware, and those parts haven't been updated.

I'm thinking a TWRP Full Backup of the stock rom and wipe and flash LineageOS. In theory do you think I would be able to restore stock if something doesn't go right?
Yes. When you install LOS or a LOS based ROM the only thing that gets flashed is boot and system. Both of those are backed up by TWRP.

Nope, you can't downgrade. Unless someone picks up development on current firmware, you can only use stock.

I know this isn't a custom rom but you're like me and on rooted Q, I use to not enjoy stock due to not being able to customize the phone how I liked but the instabilities in the camera and bluetooth and battery life made me appreciate the stock/stock based roms for the V20 and I actually PREFER a fully functional camera nd awesome audio recorder than inferior apps. But! Askermk2000's kernel is COMPATIBLE with rooted 10q, I am using it and it has honestly breathed new life into my phome for sure and since we don't have many rom options at the moment at least throw this kernel on your stock 10q rom and enjoy it! What do you mean by it just stays open. Do you mean it never boots? Like a bootloop? If so, search 7.0 ROMs bootloop, you'll find the solution, tons of threads on the help and q&a here. But if you don't mean what I just explained then could you clarify?
Sorry for not being clear, i dont think it is bootloop. It boots into the rom no issues and i can use it normally and doesn't restart till a few minutes no matter what rom i flash.

If I were you I would flash back to stock and make sure you you don't have a hardware problem, If nothing else it's a chance to start over. I haven't gone to custom roms for these reasons, mine is my daily driver to and I can't afford to get caught without it.

No worries. Yeah I don't know what the issue could be, could be a ROM issue, it's weird though, but like the poster above me, it could be hardware failure and flashing stock would be a good way to find out.

I agree that they are a little hard to follow, I looked at them myself and it looks like the quickest way would be to go back to 6.0 and upgrade back to 7. But someone else could correct me on that.
For future reference, it's best to always twrp backup your stock rom before doing any kind of major changes especially custom roms. That way you can always fall back to original if something goes wrong.

Alright if you wanna go the custom ROM route, don't update to stock 7.0, not many custom ROMs work with it's new firmware. I'll get you a guide to go back to stock 6.0 then!
Edit: Alright @Philo0o, here's a good page with all the firmware links for your phone, and the commands to flash the firmware are there for you. Let me know if you have any questions about that.
Also, when your ROMs aren't working, what are you doing to try again? what I mean is you could try a full data format in twrp. Not just a wipe of data, system, etc.. A full format isn't quite like going back to stock, but it may help if there are leftovers somewhere causing issues if that makes sense.
so if you wanna try a full format, backup your internal storage to a computer, or to an sd card, and then format, and then you will have a clean slate, move what you need back over to your phone and voila!
Ill look through that tutorial, and whenever i flash a rom i do a full a wipe

GSI ROM (RRemix) Refuses to recognize that I have a SIM card!

Hello again all!
So I've recently discovered the glory of GSI / Treble roms! Good stuff! But after much banter with Ressurection remix's 9.0 GSI rom, I have still yet to get it working, and wasn't sure if I'm just missing something.
So far, what I've tried is:
- Wiping everything (caches, system, data) as well as formatting my data partition
- then installing the rom. after a couple of routine-looking reboots, the system boots without gapps functioning great.
- quick settings states 'No SIM card', which is false
- reinstalled rom countless times
- restored to functioning rom, backed up EFS, reinstalled RRemix in the same fashion, restored EFS backup. No solve there.
And with that, I'm out of ideas and without much knowledge of GSI / Treble processes, I'm not even sure how to word searches for help. Any advice ya'll?
Hey man, let me know if you still haven’t gotten this resolved and are still looking to do so. After days of research and experimentation I finally created a process to reliably flash a fully functional RR 7.X rom. I can provide my boot.img and instructions if you need them.

I'm interested in this for sure. I'm curious, are you guys using the A only IMG of treble ROMs?

It’s funny you should reply to me on today of all days. This morning, after a month of testing, I finally succeeded in getting my RP2 to A/B boot RR 7, TWRP, AND have it rooted with Magisk. I couldn’t believe I finally got it. AMA
Are any of you on Verizon? I've tried multiple GSIs and have never gotten LTE to work properly.

Did you try an A only image? It should work as it doesn't touch the vendor image or CSC. At first I was trying AB images on my Note 9 and could never get signal. I found out that we are only supposed to use the A only images on that device and my problems were solved. I haven't tried anything on my Razer Phone 2 though as the stock ROM is pretty much exactly what I want. It's worth a try.
Need RR help.
