anyone considering the s8? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Really the only thing interesting to me about the s8 is battery life because of the 835, although TouchWiz historically is a hog and form factor being a little smaller than the G6. Anyone else? The iris scanner is interesting but I'm not sure how it is faster than fingerprint. Could in theory use a JOD on it. The G6 is also more durable but the battery life doesn't look promising. They were so eager to beef up resolution but they just killed battery

It might have the 835 (or Exynos depending on region), but it also has a smaller battery than the G6.
The fact the Galaxy phones have AMOLED screens is a deal breaker for me, so I won't buy another as long as they are using that technology.

Will stick to LG only. Not going to the overrated Samsung

Samsung doing 3 months warranty replacement on S8. That's crazy marketing. I guess they have to build consumer trust again.

I am now in the market for the S8, I hope VZW gets root. The G6 has a major lack of features - including something as universal as a notification LED.
I was HUGE LG fanboy. My whole family has their phones as I serve as their personal IT helper lol. G3, G4, G5. Not anymore. I still have my G3 running fulmics.
No replaceable battery, older CPU, lack of other feature sets and getting expensive. Maybe the V30 will address all of this. The S8 isn't perfect at all, but it sure looks like the winner of this round - 2017 edition.

You can't say you are considering the S8 if cost is a factor for discounting the G6....

Sure I can. The G6 has less features per dollar compared to the S8.

Depends what features you want I guess. The S8 has nothing I want over the G6.

Features dont always equal superiority.

The spec heads will be stuck on the 835 in the S8...as for me? I couldn't care less. Day to day performance will be indistinguishable between the two... If anything, the G6 will be snappier then the S8 unless Sammy has done some serious rework of touchwiz.

I agree. I've been using a G5 for about 4 months because my 2 year old Note 4 was dying, and the G5 was half-off. But overall, I liked my Note 4 more. Two things that kill the G6 for me is the lack of the LED Notification Light and still used LCD (but is said to be far better than the one on the G5).
But I'll have to see what the price difference is, as th G6 does for about $650-700, and if th S8 is pushing $200 more, that is a tough sell for me.

I hate AMOLED so much, especially the white colour temperature (slightly yellowish)... I really love the iPhone screen colour (and oh dear, I hate iOS). And the screen comes close to iPhone colour is LG's
Still using S7 Active (mainly for battery capacity), I'm looking forward to V30, hope it has bigger battery, at least 4000 as S7 Active. I'll buy one, immediately.
And by the way, android is lagging than iOS, but TouchWiz did make things worse than, I don't say LG framework is more beautiful, but compare my experience with many devices of both Samsung and LG (as well as other brands), Samsung has the laggier UI vs. LG (same processor and RAM)

My last Samsung device (Note 4) just recently died on me (wont turn on or charge) so no, im done with Samsung phones

Only if you sign an NDA to say it never happened of course.
Going on from my previous post, as I'm in the UK I can't get SD835 version anyway. I'd rather have an SD821 than Exynos.

Is it just me or do the "metal" sides just look like cheap plastic?
In fact the whole thing looks plastic. I know it might be different in the hand, but it looks like the first few gens of Galaxy S (I had the 1st one).

After watching the presentation Im glad I went with the G6. I will get the Note 8 when it comes out but these curved screens just suck. I dont understand the purpose and it makes the device substantially more fragile. I will say though, DeX looks freakin awesome. The whole presentation was really odd and the people in the crowd at the end was creepy. Price wise I'd say they put it right where it belongs so kudos for not hitting that $1000 mark.

Just looked at the first look of the phone. I also feel soo good going with the G6. I might be looking hopeful towards the note. Seems like the same aspect ratio of the g6 but curved display, which is terrible to protect and use. Fingerprint sensor is a joke, and bixby look very incapable as of yet compared to google now! WOW WOW WOW. Close call!

LG G4 battery discuss
As lg g4 have the same capacity of battery as the lg g3 however having a brighter display and more powerful processor just want to see weather this new flaship can standout in battery life. Read though some articles says that it has been a 20% increase in battery life than the lg g3 hope someone can share it??
http://www.computerworld.com/articl...-over-performance-with-new-g4-smartphone.html
Currently using LG G2 and bit disappointed when I see poorest battery result from G3 so skip and since than waiting for G4, I am Enthusiast photographer and using Nikon D7100 with costliest Sigma £596 for lens only with F1.8 fo it’s very interesting to see how £750 DSLR + £596 lens compared with G4 or P8 LOL, I know that recent techno is not even nearby DSLR quality, I would surely buy if Camera and battery of G4 perform better than Huawei P8, I don't believe or worry much in benchmarks figure as most of them are not noticeable in real life, As I don't play high graphics intense game, I believe LG must have done through test before choosing 808 and if it for better battery life against figures than I prefer Battery life, I am absolutely pleased with performance, Screen quality, Earphone sound of G2 if it would have been released exact thing in recent time I would still prefer to buy, When I see S6 live particularly in gold/silver colour it seems to me as really overdone and cheap design, it remind me things when in 2010-11 when lot of folks specially girls prefer to put shiny and mirror looking screen protector in from of their iPhone so they do makeup on the go, S6 is less than evolution and glass and reflective things is not a big achievement or breakthrough BTW it’s subjective matter and I know more crowd following iPhone/Samsung trend than LG but I don't want to join unwise and hypnotized crowd, I think design wise P8 is better than S6 but still can't decide which one look better P8 or G4?
So, plastic/carbon or leather?
What's your choice?
Why?
finish my contract beginning of June. Last LG phone I had was the LG Chocolate(I think it was called this). Looked at the HTC One M9 but really want a bigger screen(5.5" is ideal). Samsung does not appeal to me at all, wife had way to many issues with her SGS3, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S. The camera on the LG G4 sounds pretty impressive for a phone camera, and I really like the idea of the leather back(will have to see it in person first though). Love that it has SD card, removable battery, what sounds like a fantastic screen. Not fussed too much about the processor like some are. As long as it is smooth I am not really worried about it. I love my M7 but it is really feeling very small now even compared to my wife's Z3. Only potential issue I will have is with the UI. Never had an Android LG phone. What is the UI like compared to HTC? Anyone had both?

The G3 is still considered a "top notch" device. The improvements to this iteration are NOT minimal. Like the G3 before it, cell manufactures will be playing the catch up game...again.
Hey Tonystark, have you had(or still have) the G3? Have you played around with a HTC One(any iteration) ? How did you find Sense compared to LG's skin? Having only had a Sense skin on my phones since the HTC Desire(original) I am very curious as to the differences. None of my friends have any LG's so cannot compare myself.
I must add that HTC's have a superb dev team in Viper. Had them on my phone since my Evo3D. What is the development like on LG's?

While most everyone knows sense (or has at least viewed it), LG's interface is more comparable to that of touchwiz. LG has some great app's and it's interface is fluid. What I didn't like about sense (out of the box) was home-screen and blinkfeed and nothing else. This has all changed now, with the M9.
It seems with my LG I didn't mind using the stock UI. On the other hand with most HTC devices (I owned,) I would be quick to install Nova Launcher.
How will the rest keep up with the likes of this
Custom Roms / Kernels
I know the device is not out yet to test, but we may have big issues with Rooting and Custom recoveries on the G4. Right now, the trick to installing custom recoveries is to flash an older KitKat aboot partition that is Bumped. Newer firmwares have patched this exploit and I do not think any progress has been made on the issue.
Even my Nexus 7 requires such practices to get a custom recovery on it.
Without having a KitKat device, we may be stuck with stock for some time. Food for thought before purchasing.

Apparently there's a "No Downgrade" method available for G3... not sure of the internals, but hopefully it could work similarly for G4

That is ridiculously good. Admittedly I am coming from a 4 ultra pixel purple tinted camera, but I and really, really impressed. I had a chance to see some of the UI too which looked ok. Thanks for posting that video I am now sold. Incredible really. I am now sold on it.
Why are so many hating on the leather? I keep reading posts to the "hands on reviews" that the leather is atrocious and screen doesn't compare to Samsung.
I am loving the leather and the screen!
i personally find leather in any form very odd on a smartphone, whether real, faux, textured or whatever. but it's certainly nothing to be upset or hateful about.
if this thing can be rooted on ATT then my 3 year long replacement search for my S3 is over!
waiting & watching closely. good luck to the devs! if i can't root it then it's an M9 for me. which isn't really the plan...

I haven't read anything negative about the leather or the screen by anyone who wasn't a troll or Samsung fanboy. The reviews I've read have said that the leather is the way to go and it looks much better in person than in pictures. I have T-Mobile and I'll be getting the brown leather version and getting a couple more backs later to use interchangeably, just because I can.

We're dealing with a generation of people who are more obsessed with showing off and talking down others rather than being content with what they have, all while failing to realize that most people around them either don't care or aren't impressed by their choice of phone.

Haha! Upset or hateful? May have an issue with your comment, but not for the reason of my post. Just starting a conversation is all.
That is what I feel about glass on the back. Seems silly to me.
But I think it would be pretty cool to have the stitched leather in my shirt pocket where I keep my phones. The raised stitching would protect the camera some also.

Funny I really like Blinkfeed. And I am going to miss it. As a big HTC fan HTC let me down this year. And my eyes are on the G4.
I saw a port of Blinkfeed on the G3. Let's hope a developer will port it to the G4
I really like the leather. And I can't wait to read the reviews on the camera. Because that's a big thing for me now.
With software and hardware optimizations its looking to have 31% better battery life give or take a couple percent. Have to take into account the screen and processor efficiency. I'm waiting for reviews with general use as well as screen on time

Got my G5 Yesterday

The production is flawless. I really like it. Here were my concerns before it arrived:
1) It would be defective (antenna showing, dust under the camera lens, etc.: *It was perfect, no blemishes.
2) WiFi calling wouldn't work (I don't use it but others said it wasn't working at all on their Sprint phones). *I had to go thru the setup twice and the second time it worked fine.
3) The screen would look washed out. *It's bright and vibrant. I wonder if the store model wasn't a production model.
4) The fingerprint scanner would be too annoying to reach. *This complaint is valid. It sort of defeats the purpose having it on the back when it's on my desk all day.
5) Battery life. *Haven't had it long enough to verify how good it is.
6) Laggy. *Nope, it's blazing fast.
7) Regretting not getting the S7 or S7 Edge. *No regrets yet, I love the price point on the G5.
Hope this is helpful, feel free to ask more questions.
Same here mate. Had the same concerns but mine its immense and blemish free. Funnily enough I had an s7 before this, and it doesn't even come close

Yes but gonna trade for a different device don't want another G5 don't get me wrong it's a great phone but nothing special too many build issues for me and I believe there is no unlocked bootloader so this phone not for me will trade it for a S7 Edge performance wise exynos is way better and has a bigger batter

The gap isn't an issue but when you pay lots of money for something you'd expect better quality.. Anyways like I say it's a great phone can't knock the hardware just needs some small improvements/refinements and it'll be perfect :good:

I picked up the Galaxy S7 Edge and I've been playing with it and comparing it to the G4. Camera photography is hit or miss. Obviously the G4 and G5 (since they have the same sensor specs) will capture more detail (16mpx vs 12mpx) but G5 will have better front facing camera, awesomely neat wide angel.
S7E has VERY good low light... I mean VERY good low light! Huge differences when I take night time shots!
But ... Samsung has its flaws as well. I'm not going to cancel my G5 pre-order, I want to get my hands on it. But Samsung S7E is def. a very good, long lasting device in terms of battery life - let's see how the G5 is in the end! If I get a flawed G5 I'll be disappointed, but I'll ask for another and if that one comes back flawed, I'll keep the S7E as my own personal device.
But I really hope it isn't as bad as some people say here.

Yeah but the processing on g5 is hit and miss too so would be good to see some proper comparisons against S7E, As for battery on G5 I got 3-4 sot in less then 24hrs guess will improve over time but as of now not very impressed 2014 flagships can beat this lol, Just watch for Led backlight bleed if you have it you'll see on first boot or put a black image on screen and go in a dark room and check the corners and side lots of units got this fault, It's not a bad device I think with the right modules and some development i.e kernels etc should be a great phone but i'm digging the S7 way more feels amazing in the hand very premium <3 Plus the exynos chip is very optimised if you watch against the SD820 variant destroys it apart from gaming adreno gpu is boss Just the price of the S7E kills me lol
Not trying to push anyone away from the phone just my experience with it

Price is only 45 euros more for the S7E here in Spain.
Camera is much worse than my G4 ...
Check these out:
Picture of my shoe, same distance. Color on the G4 is far more accurate. Detail is much higher (look at the button next to the shoe lace). I zoomed out of the G4 image to be able to be almost identical to the S7E picture.

In the next picture, color on the S7E is SO washed out, it really changed what the wall looks like. Color is also VERY washed out. That is not a "blue sky"...
I'm very unimpressed with what Samsung offered in terms of well lit pictures.
On the other hand, here is a night shot. Samsung DESTROYED the G4, but then again, G4 is older... And S7E has better low light camera. Either way... Both were taken max aperture (10 sec for Samsung, 30 for LG), 50 ISO, both mounted on tripods. Also these are the best of maybe 4 or 5 images.
I hope this has helped anyone who is very happy with good shooters. I just think that Samsung doing a good job, but not compared to LG in most regular shots. Colors are washed out, details are missing, over sharpened.... Meh... Not impressed, honestly ... On the other hand, night shots are SUPERB on the Samsung, but this is only my 3rd time shooting at night - 99.999% of my shots are daytime or indoor. If the S7E had a better or same camera as the G5, I might have just kept it, but I know I'm going to return it after I test the G5 and S7E side by side (like this images). Best shooter (quality, speed, battery life) will be my next device
Oh, if people are interested, I can test out G4, G5 and S7E images. I have a bunch of G4 and S7E side by sides already, so if anyone wants them let me know and I can publish some information and details about them.
Thank you for the pictures, I would like to see more side by side comparisons if you please.
Have the g5 build quality is good but i do have backlight bleed

Moving from the Edge to the LG G5

I'm considering getting the G5 instead of the S7 for two reasons.
First, a little back story. I've had the S7 since the day it came out. I was fortunate enough to be eligible for an upgrade after having lost my LG G3 in a snowfield while doing some back country snowboarding. The G3's performance was great for me, plus I had an 8500mah battery on it, which allowed me to go days without a recharge. The drawback was that it was monolithic in bulk.
I often go out into the back country to snowboard; battery life is key. With the G5, there's the likelihood of a module that expands battery life. Failing that, I can get extra batteries to take with me. So, reason one: exchangeable/expandable batteries.
Secondly, and slightly related to my first point, is root. Without root on the S7 Verizon version, I'm unable to pare down bloatware, use Greenify, and switch ROMs to something more suitable or preferable than the factory options. Rooting a phone has the benefit, in my experience, of extending battery life simply by limiting what's running at any given time.
The one thing that's got me on the fence is the waterproof/dustproof feature of the S7 line. I may actually be able to find my old G3 this summer when I hike the area where I lost it. It's unlikely, but possible. The benefit being that I can recover my memory card... I am not disillusioned enough to think that it'll actually function after being saturated by springtime snow melt, and long term frozen conditions. (Man, that'd be a great testament to the LG hardware if it did, no?)
Anyway, I am willing to listen to any counter arguments to my decision before I go through with this. I'm meeting a guy at the VZW store this afternoon. He's going to inspect my phone, then buy a G5 for me right then and there if it's acceptable. It should be, given that it's been in a case and had a screen protector on it since day one.
Lg g5: is truly not worth it. DOA. Moreover snapdragon version is locked as well. I sent mine back. If anything look at HTC 10.

The g5 has way lower brightness (100% on the g5 is dimmer then 50-60% on the s7 edge). Worse build quality, worse battery and it looks ugly as hell (probably subjective). Oh and no waterproofing like you mentioned. The htc 10 looks to be much better in pretty much every aspect, I actually regret getting the s7 edge over it. The g5 is probably the worst flagship that came out this year.

The aesthetics of the G5 do not bother me. I'm a functionality over form sort of person, as I inferred above by mentioning my massive 8500mah battery and my requirement for long periods away from civilization. I do agree that the Samsung hardware is better manufactured, and the form is far more appealing, but if it doesn't meet my core needs, I'm going to be unhappy.
That being said, I hadn't considered the HTC 10 as an option. I will read up on it and see whether it will suit my needs. Thanks for mentioning it.
One thing about brightness, even on the lowest brightness, the S7 is annoyingly luminescent at night. When I wake up and want to check my phone, it doesn't dim low enough for me.

2. there's app out there that allow you to disable every service running on the phone without root, its a shame you're on verizon otherwise the international s7 works on att/tmo and that has root.
3. yes waterproofing is nice as borat would say

1. What the heck does "battery bank" mean? I know what a physical battery bank is, and how to wire one up, but how's that relevant? All apps related to the name are scammy looking.

That's not going to happen. The whole "Friends" add-ons are DOA, so just ignore them. The B&O DAC for the G5? Yeah, North America won't get that, and the non-US modules won't even work with your US G5 even if you order one from Europe or whatever.
It's not waterproof, the battery is smaller, the screen is worse, the build quality is worse.. It's like downgrading from a Porsche to a Toyota. Don't get me wrong, the Toyota will serve you well for a long time, but it's like... WHY would you do that? "I don't like this high-end product, so I'm going to get the worse option." The better thing to do instead would be to get the Exynos version of the Edge, but that would depend on your current carrier (if it supports it).
The HTC 10 on the other hand is a better choice, but still not as overall good as the Edge. The Edge is at top right now when it comes to smartphones. It's the king, and whatever you decide to get instead will be a downgrade. That's just how it is right now. Samsung did a really great job with it, and you're about to do something stupid.

That's what i meant a physical battery bank, 20k mah in size should charge the phone 5 times or so compared to carrying an extra battery. If you can carry extra batteries then you can carry a large battery bank, kinda defeats the purpose of "i must have removable batteries" imo.
Exxxynos version can be bought in Canada unlocked is rootable

You would be so foolish not to get HTC 10 over g5
We all get to choose the phone that best meets our individual needs. If a replaceable battery is critical for the OP, that makes the G5 his only choice among top end phones. Personally, I'm not impressed by the G5, but that's me.
But for the specific concerns listed. The US S7e will probably never be rooted, so if that's truly critical get something else. I'm not sure the 5 is the answer for that, either, though.
As far as battery goes, while I think that phones should, in general, have a replaceable battery, an external battery pack is a viable substitute, especially if you don't need it all the time. There are even wireless ones that power the phone through the Qi coil.
Good luck with the lego phone, bye. This thread never happened and i never replied.
You better go with LG G4 instead of LG G5 if you insist on LG hehe.
But really, nothing can beat Galaxy S7 Edge, including HTC 10:
1. Best Display on planet.
2. Waterproofing
3. Awesome Battery life
4. Super-sexy phone.
5. The best smartphone camera with the fastest focus on smartphones.
6. If you need more just ask...
Was looking to give my edge back for the G5... after playing with the g5 so glad am sticking with my baby. Great battery life waterproof and brilliant design and most of all the phone is sexy like me... and the g5 battery not that great.

Not sure which phone I should get

I will be able to upgrade after this month and debating whether to get this phone or the g6. I was thinking the v20 since it has root already and I'm not sure if or when the g6 will have root. What do you guys think?
I'd go with the V20 at least from my experience with the T-Mobile version. The root is excellent, battery is godlike with Weta, also as audiophile I absolutely love this phone. But to add on to that the removable battery more important than it seems. But something to mention on performance the 820 and 821 are almost identical. If you really want that extra few % then overclock it. Yes I know this is sloppily written I'm knocking it out before a class.

Yeah they'll have to try hard with the V30 to impress me. Because I honestly see no reason to jump ship right now.

Only things I am hoping for with the V30, is the 32Bit DAC, SD835 SOC, and hopefully going back to the old style where the Power and Volume buttons were both on the back(not likely though).
Anyone else not like the screen's curved corners? V20 all day for me.

Really if you can wait and by wait, I mean that the battery does not explode. Wait for the Samsung S8 to come out, about month after it comes out this LG V20 owner will be a 6.2 inch screen S8 owner and not looking back at LG V20 as a device that I should have hung on too.......

This phone seems great though. I like the v10 (my current phone) so I thought the v20 or G6 would be good, I'm not a fan of Samsung so I wouldn't consider getting the S8 anyway.
Ah Ok, makes sense, if you are able too. Stand by for the G6 from what I have read, will be a very good LG device. However, if you have pressing a need to replace your V10, as far as LG products go, you can't go wrong with the V20.
I would go with the v20 especially if you want removable battery. The g6 will likely go non removable since it will have dust and water resistance (survives 30 minutes submerged).
The g6 is rumored to have the same DAC as the V20 so there's that.
I upgraded from the v10 because of the loop of death I got and I am happy I upgraded. The phone is faster and it doesn't get hot like the v10 did.
I did like the styling of the v10 better and I liked the heavier weight but other than that the v20 blows the v10 out of the water.
There are only a few reasons you should consider the g6:
- you don't need removable battery
- the dust and water resistance is appealing to you
- the 821 snapdragon (a 10% performance difference) matters to you

Besides, do you go into TWRP on a daily basis? I only go into TWRP when I actually have to, and most of the time, I can just use TWRP manager and it can get me into TWRP.

G6 or S8?

I pre-ordered my S8 last week, but now LG has opened its pre-orders here too. It's a good ~USD 100 cheaper and will actually beat Samsung to market despite starting later (by only about 3 days though). I got the chance to play around with a dummy, and I will say I slightly prefer the blockier construction on the G6 versus the S8's super-thin design (although there's no doubt the S8 looks better). I haven't had the chance to play with a real demo one though, but I'm definitely going out of my way to try it. I'm not terribly concerned about performance or display or camera, but what I am concerned about is battery. I'm someone who's very heavy on my devices, sometimes going 7+ hours SOT a day, and my S7's battery has become a bit of a slog in the year since I got it (even on lighter days, which I realize is still at least 4h SOT, it requires a mid-afternoon "nap"). The G6 does come with a larger battery, but also a less efficient processor. Which one do you think will serve me better, for the next year or so?

As for you, if that extra 100$ is not a concern I would recommend the S8. For a heavy user, a power efficient cpu will probably give you longer sot, despite smaller battery.

I think the battery life of the G6 is good, but twice now I've seen the battery level drop really fast during the day.
Here is what's common about those two incidents.
1) The phone was hardly used on those days.
2) Connected to WiFi.
3) Appears to happen after a week + days since the last time.
I'm beginning to wonder if the cause is some sort of carrier, or LG, baked in app collecting data, or running diagnostics. Being on WiFi kinda makes me suspect that because we know companies have been trashed before about consuming data on metered lines.
Regardless, it's irritating to find half your battery gone by noon when the phone has been on the coffee table for the entire time. A reboot appears to correct it, or resets the clock.
As for rogue apps in the background, I don't install apps. I've used the same apps for the last two years+ and didn't experience this on my V20, S7E, Note7, or V10.

I was excited about LG Pay, but that appears to be a slow moving boat. For those that don't know, LG Pay will use magnetic field modulating technology similar to Samsung Pay, which allows the phone to be used as a payment device with older magnetic card readers. Unfortunately LG Pay won't be released until June, and then only in South Korea. So far, LG has only been able to bring two, yes only two, financial institutions on board. No word if LG Pay will be released in the US.
I did like Samsung pay, but hated the white background it went to after an update. It looks like the white background may no longer be there from recent pictures I've seen.

Theyre not bad per se, just differently done. Where the Galaxy S8 has a normal display with bezels that cover the corners, the LG G6 display is a display whose corners have actually been cut off. This improves durability, as the corners are less likely to be impacted during a fall. This means the corners arent perfectly smooth, but only about as jagged as a circle on the display is. Which is to say: not noticeable when viewing normally.
There are lots of reasons to get the S8 over thd G6, and vice versa, but this ain't one of them.

I had the opportunity of having a s8 for a couple of hours yesterday from my cousin. I admit it's a gorgeous looking phone, but still couldn't really like the screen curve, it's just not for me. Functionality is more important to me than aesthetics. My G6 got delivered today, and so far I am pretty happy. The only thing I am gonna miss is the notification LED, guess I just have to get used to the always on display.

I haven't turned my my G6 yet. I'm going to use the G8+ for a day or two before decided which one to keep.
The G6 definitely feels better in the hand with it's flat edges.
The S8+ finger print sensor is not as bad as the press is making it out to be. The press should concern themselves with more important issues in my opinion.
The display on the S8+ is fantastic, and you can stream music to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.

Whichever goes on sale first
I am waiting for Verizon to put one of these two on 50% off sale. Probably won't happen until Black Friday. No hurry, my G3 is working perfectly with Nougat 7.1.1.
Get the S8 if the fingerprint sensor is not an issue for you. The G6 is slower than most 2016 flagship. You could also get an S7 since its both faster and cheaper. Oh, and no bootloop

I had the s7 and the s7 edge (and the Note 7 for that matter}, and none of them were faster than the G6 I have now. YMMV.

too bad all the tests on the web says otherwise (Exynos with Nougat). The G6 is a joke. It even got a CDN$400.00 rebate since day 1 (using the trade in promo, I used a $15.00 Alcatel pos) + free LG TONE INFINIM (CDN$170.00 value (apparently)).
Terrible battery life, mediocre camera,2016 CPU, GG 3 and will probably get the bootloop plague. There is no reason (but the cool shape/screen ratio) to get this phone at retail price or even close to retail price. Its an overpriced mediocre phone thats great to hold.
And for some reason, only a few countries get the wireless charging ! What a weird decision.

Battery life is on par with most of the other flagships (somewhere between 4.5 and 6 hours SOT) and I stick by my assertion that performance is on par as well. The camera has strengths and weaknesses just like all cameras. Anyway, I'm enjoying the device. I'll leave it at that.
I also went with the G6. Never been much of a Samsung fan, but did want to at least have an open mind. I really prefer the screen size of the G6; the S8 just feels too long and narrow. So far battery life has been excellent, even with the AOD turned on. The camera seems to be a big improvement over the G4 I came from. FWIW, I'm very happy I chose the G6 over the S8. As always, YMMV.
