Believe me, I didn't do much work. You can donate to @m11kkaa, though. He's the developer of EFIDroid (if you didn't already know that...). I believe he has a donation link in his profile...

This is great but is there a way to uninstall it (if necessary) and get back to the primary ROM (stock or Lineage OS) without losing data?

tried to do a bit of light research and couldn't find what's different between this and other preexisting multiboot solutions. I've been using Dual Boot Patcher for sometime without issues. Is this somehow better? and if so, how?

EFIDroid is what you would call a "second-stage bootloader". The main advantage over Dual Boot Patcher (at least for me) is that you no longer have to patch zip files before installing. Also, EFIDroid is more than just a multi-boot solution. Quoting @m11kkaa:
efidroid tries to focus on simplicity, and doesn't require any kernel modifications etc.
in general: well having such a powerful bootloader in your boot stage gives you lots of possibilities, like multiboot, replacements/additions for kernels/ramdisk/cmdline.
This project has a lot more potential than what's currently implemented. i.e. you can give samsung devices fastboot and sony devices a standalone recovery. Also you can natively boot GNU GRUB if you're into booting linux kernel's the desktop way.

The two solutions are similar enough that you can migrate your setup from Dual Boot Patcher to EFIDroid without losing any data. I'll try to post a guide later this week.

I was I under the impression dual boot required multiple ROMs running the same kernel... If that is the case a huge advantage efi has is each ROM having their own boot img. I'm currently running 3 ROMs a lollipop a marshmallow and of course a nougat. I really just wanted to see all 3 latest android os running flawlessly on 1 device. And I did just that hats off to the developer for this.

There's an uninstall button in the app. Or, you could just flash the original boot.img via TWRP (basically what the uninstall button does).

I'm a noob...What is this? Where do I need to go to learn about why I would want this...Please explain lol

you can look at their website, and then decide if you want this level of control over your phone.

Thanks for bringing us this tool. One thing I can't figure out...how do we Odin a different bootloader? I have DOK2 loaded now, and want to put Dr. Ketan's on the phone. The sub instructions say to Odin the BL and CP, as the ROM is generally generic. There us also a datafix and an essential fix that needs to be applied. Doing all of that is easy, but how do I keep two separate bootloaders (LP and MM) totally separate? If I flash a LP over a MM, my camera breaks, and if I flash a MM over LP, WiFi breaks. And I'm not talking about dirty flashes, a full system, data, and cache wipe 3x. Only Odin back to the base ROM keeps my phone happy.

There's no way to have two different bootloaders. EFIDroid comes between the bootloader and the boot.img, so it has no control over the bootloader.
EDIT: EFIDroid may be able to emulate the behavior of another bootloader... you would have to ask @m11kkaa for details...

Here is the LINK. You can see more info HERE

I downloaded and started up the EFIdroid unofficial apk but got the following message:
=====================================
Error
Can't load device info. Please check your connection.
/data/user/0/org.efidroid.efidroidmanager.debug/files/devices.json (No such file or directory)
override ota server try again
===============================================
Could you please explain what's going on? Seems that this version is different from the one i downloaded in March. Could it be that it's not getting root access? What can I do to get around this error?

I will have to look into it... The EFIDroid app error messages are not exactly the most helpful kind. (Good thing the app is being phased out soon). That particular error message could mean many things, but most likely it's a connection issue. We will continue this in Slack.

Will this work on tw 7.0 if i was porting a rom. Also why wont aosp kernel work on tw.. i always thought tw was aosp with skin..

Go to back to the link posted above where you got the unofficial apk and go to post #83. The OP posted an apk there that works fine on our phone.

Tried what you suggested but it didn't work either. So, I chose the 'nuclear option': I wiped the phone completely then reinstalled the stock Marshmallow ROM. using Odin. After that i installed TWRP v3.0.2 (trltetmo) and Supersu v2.79 as well as Busybox v1.26. Only then was I able to install EFIDroid successfully. Now, I'm able to boot the stock rom as well as Resurrection Remix.
It seems that if your going to install EFIDroid you must have the phone rooted using SuperSU. Using Magisk to root your phone instead of SuperSu won't work (at least it didn't work in my case).

This should work anywhere, regardless of ROM... But btw, it's a stretch to say TW is just a skin on top of AOSP. In fact, TW is probably the farthest you can get from AOSP... There's a lot of significant differences that make AOSP kernels incompatible with TW ROMs...

Custom ROM and kernel with overclocking support required.

I have a samsung galaxy trend s7392. Since it lags when playing high end games or using heavy apps, I'd like to overclock it. I have already rooted it. It has JB 4.1.2 as stock firmware with samsung touchwiz 4.0. Since it's not a popular model, the developers might not have developed anything yet for it. But since this phone's look, feel, features and stock firmware are a lot similar to more popular models like grand quattro i8552, i9082, etc some of you could know what roms and kernels would work good with it. Please help. I've googled my hands off. Thank you so much.

You might have better luck by going into the i8552 forum and ask a developer there if he knows if it is compatible. They would know the best.

Hi, I also own a Galaxy Trend S7392 and looking for a custom rom. But I couldn't find one. To start developing a new rom, I tried building from AOSP sources. The build was successful, but while flashing it on phone, ODIN reports FAIL as soon as it starts writing system.img. I am unable to figure that out why is it so.
I am looking for some concrete steps so as to compile a ROM for our phone and flash it from AOSP sources specifically. If you have any idea about that, please help.

After successfully building a rom you need to flash the rom from inside of recovery. I'm not sure of the specifics of your rom for flashing. You will need to go to your rom thread for that and read the guids on how to flash it correctly. You will also need a gapps package. goo.im has this. If you built for 4.3 aosp they have the gapps there. If you built for 4.4 you can try these gapps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942

Thanks for the reply atrus5.
My phone is currently using STOCK ROM for my Galaxy Trend. There is no thread dedicated for Galaxy Trend Duos S7392 so there is a little information available at the moment.
I am stuck on flashing the AOSP generated system.img to my phone. GAPPS will come a lot later .

OK, but I don't know how to generate the whole ZIP. Moreover,
ODIN requires .tar.md5 package to flash it. This is what I did :
1. Extract STOCK tar.md5 package
2. Replaced system.img with the one I compiled.
3. Repacked tar.md5 package.
4. Used ODIN to flash the tar.md5 package.
5. ODIN reported failed as soon as it started flashing system.img
Further help will be highly appreciated.

You will need to flash the rom from recovery.
First you will need to be rooted. If you don't have that you can find it here at this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494471
You will need to have a cwm recovery. Here is the link to that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552935
Inside of cwm recovery you will need to factory reset/erase data, erase cache and dalvik.
Then flash the rom and gapps packages.
i don't know if your device is locked or not since I do not own this device. This is the best that I could find. I don't know if it works. This advice is for the i8552. Your best bet is to look through these threads to find what you are looking for. http://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-quattro

Lots of links to study.... Thanks
1) The phone is rooted. NO issues with that.
2) CWM recovery is not available for my phone. I tried the CWM recovery builder to build image, but the build failed. I tried to build the same manually, but on flashing, I get E:Failed to Verify Signature.
NO way ahead...

you can remove those bloatwares by just rooting and using root app delete to locate and delete. it will not only free rom but will also make your phone faster since the bloatwares that used to run in the background consuming cpu, battery and ram will have been removed.
Samsung galaxy trend s7392 folks use kingoapp from kingoapp.com to root your phone. it will surely root it. I've upgraded to galaxy i8552 quattro and the two phones are just a copycat of each other. so there are chances a custom rom intended for quattro(more popular of the two) could work on trend.

It's already rooted bro. I have done it on the very first day I bought the device. Still, not all bloatware can be removed by just rooting. So, I think there is a need of optimised ROM like CyanogenMod or any other.

Hey first of all, after rooting you will gain super user access and ofcourse after that you will be able to remove any system app(bloatware).
pls help i also have the same device
I have gt7392 pls help me to put any custom rom available if u get any solution pls share with me.
Thanks in advance
I am also an unhappy user of s7392. It is indeed a laggy phone and to be honest, root (vroot)+ removing any unused application, including play store, hangout and google+ didn't help it too much. Phone is still hanging, lagging and sometimes not showing who is calling or, worst, not ringing at all.
An optimised ROM it will be really grate.

[T900XXUBOH4] Let's Root the New T900(12.2 wifi) LP Stock Rom

Hello all,
I'm determined to get root for Lollipop. I've seen several other Samsung devices that, like ours, lost root in the 5.1.1 update. These devices also have twrp working and attempting to flash root results in a bootloop.
Based on what I can gather, modifying the kernel by setting selinux to permissive should do the trick in allowing root to be flashed safely.
I'm setting up a vm right now, so I'm going to attempt compiling an insecure kernel in my ubuntu vm.
If anyone would like to test, that'd be awesome! I actually haven't made the jump up, so I figure if anyone has and would like to test, I might as well ask and save me time in dl'ing the firmware and odin'ing up.
Thanks

I just made the update, but haven't gotten to twrp'ing it yet. Here's the kernel. You actually need to flash it via odin as a PDA. The kernel output is automatically a boot.img, which we can't really install. So i converted it into a .tar which we can flash through odin.
Edit: It just boots right into twrp for me, it won't boot system
Remember this is a test. If something terribly wrong goes happen, I'm not forcing you to test this: IT'S ON YOU.
That means that we need a flashable stock kernel as well. So we can flash SuperSu and right after the stock kernel and we should be fixed. In a way the same auto root does.
After flashing your kernel I couldn't boot into system. But I am able to flash TWRP with Odin and boot into TWRP. So I flashed SuperSU and wiped caches. I flashed back self made kernel.tar.md5. But still couldn't boot into system. Just flash whole thing again.
Now with the second try TWRP sticks and I was able to flash SuperSu and flashed my stock kernel back. But now I have bootloop after the startup sound. B.t.w. I used SuperSu 2.46
What's next?
If I remember right, bootloop after startup sound means some of the files in your ROM are corrupt...
The device loads in this order: Bootloader, Kernel, ROM. So if it won't boot at all, then the bootloader is corrupt. If it only boots to splash screen but not boot animation, then kernel is corrupt. If it bootloops at start animation then ROM is corrupt.
In other words, it's getting closer!
Edit: @andrewnelson23 Did you download the kernel from Samsung Opensource? If so I tried to edit their kernel following the changes here https://github.com/glewarne/S6-UniKernel/commit/4e3880c912ade3468f3f42189acb1d8d205901fb but it wouldn't compile for me...

It hits splash screen and will not go further. Actually this is the first time I've just done a kernel edit so forgive my incompetence.
Yes, I downloaded from Samsung source. The sprint note 4 had the same issue, and I believed the dev simply used a few menuconfig edits to disable selinux and root checking. First up, I need to build a kernel from their source to confirm that I'm actually doing it right. Then I will only try removing the selinux(with menuconfig). If that works I will attempt disabling the root check stuff. If it doesn't work, I'll undo the selinux stuff, disable root check and see if that boots. We'll see.

An option that might work is KingRoot
Once you are rooted you can use Super-Sume to remove the KingRoot apps and replace them with SuperSU
Kongo Root doesn't work. I have already tried.

I missed that. Only found the link i posted when i was looking at SU updates (play store has 2.46, beta has 2.49). Saw a samsung user facing similar issues to what you guys on the 12.2 have (i'm on a 8.4). Thought i'd throw some kind of input to help out with things. Glad to see you guys figured it out though.

ROM Support for the SM-T337T?

I have come across some very cheap Galaxy Tab 4's on eBay that I was wanting to try out. I'm a T-Mobile customer so I'm interested in the SM-T337T (band 12 support woo hoo!)
I see that there are recoveries for the tablet so it looks like I'm not the first to wonder.
Basically, my question is: which Lollipop/Marshmallow ROMs are currently supported and stable on the SM-T337T? And have we been able to reliably root/install recovery on them?
Thanks,
-coach

Unfortunately there are no custom ROMs for the SM-T337T. There has been an official lollipop update, and since there are working recoveries, you should be able to use chainfire's systemless superSU root method (you most likely need the systemless root because the lollipop update is 5.1.1). The fact remains though that nobody has made a custom ROM for this tablet. Sorry

Thanks for the reply. What can I do to help the situation? What would be required on my end to port a different ROM to it? Either from a "stock" Cyanogenmod or from an existing Galaxy Tab 4 ROM?

For cyanogenmod you'd need a computer running linux, whether in a virtual machine or dual booting windows and linux (I have that setup on my Windows laptop, Ubuntu works fine), you'd need to set up your build environment, sync the necessary repos from Cyanogenmod's github, you may or may not (but probably will) have to create a device tree, but I imagine you can probably use moonbutt74's github repos to get you started on that, and once all that preliminary work is done you'll have to figure out what proprietary files are needed from the Tab itself. And of course it would be a good idea to download and inspect Samsung's source code for your device. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, this would be a good place to start reading: https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Development#Learning_To_Build_CM
Thank you for the very thorough response. I just don't wanna be "that guy" who gets on here and says "Waaahhhh the devs aren't supporting my device!" I'd rather help
When I get home in a few days, I'll fire up the build environ and see what I can do with her. Here's hoping no bricking!

I have that device on 5.1.1 and rooted it here(in case you haven't found this yet);
//autoroot.chainfire.eu/
Root available for both 4.4.4 & 5.1.1.
I would personally love to see marshmallow on this device! Currently settling for some Touch-Wiz debloating for now.
Does anyone have updates on this? I recently got an SM-T337T and would like to de-bloat it -- first on the chopping block would be TouchWiz. If there's a ROM that takes care of this, that would be nice, but I might be able to do it on my own?
Also, I'd really like 6.0.1, instead of 5.1.1 that's currently on it.

Just picked one of these up for Mom and have rooted and flashed TWRP, but was wondering if anyone knows of a ROM or at least debloating scripts...?
Thanks!
Hey Coach,
I know this thread is quite dated but just hoping you might have succeeded in either creating or finding a custom ROM for this device? I'm still using mine but finding more and more apps no longer supported on 5.1.1.
Thanks!

[SM-J327P ROM BASE] QI2 Firmware Deknoxed and Deodexed

Like I have mentioned to the others in the J3 Emerge community, I had this done just didn't have the opportunity to upload it until today. This is a Deknoxed and Deodexed base for custom ROMs for users who are currently on the QI2 stock firmware. And since I did nothing but remove the odexes(including the one on the boot img iirc which is why it comes up with the typical custom kernel message on bootup) and removed Knox, I'm not posting this as a DevDB thread as Samsung did all the heavy lifting so to speak.
[url]https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=745849072291691412[/URL]
And yes, this can be flashed as is but as always, you do so at your own risk. I will not replace your device and neither will Boost Mobile nor Samsung in the event of data loss, corruption, theft, fire, pod people, etc.
Please do not mirror this zip without express permission from me.
I believe this COULD be used on VMUS and SPRINT as well, but because I do not have the Emerge from those carriers. Also, from what I see it can only be rooted using SuperSU in Systemless mode or Magisk.

If you're not on QI2 when you flash this, it won't work. No idea how to fix it unless you use the QI2 ODIN package to "upgrade" which is found on AFH under the user the_yankee, iirc. Not at pc so can't verify this. Have stuff to do rn so can't get on one.

Thanks! that's exactly what i was missing, I guess i was using a different version before, flashing the QI2 first did the trick.
I think I will put together a set of zips that can be used to get any of the three we are all on,working on the various versions. All a user will need to do is pick their carrier and flash it in TWRP after first boot that way the system writes the csc directory. I will post you all a link when I get them built. They are sorely needed and long over due.

[GUIDE][addison] SETUP Moto z play XT1635-02 : from stock 6.0 to custom ROM.

I have the habit of always asking on a new device no matter how much I think I know!
I have an xt1635-02 (I am US ATT Prepaid)(nano SIM) supposedly here tomorrow so I've been reading tons here.
However, it seems that a lot of the threads are aimed at rooting stock, which I never do.
As a rule, it's trivial:
[!] In this case it seems best to OTA update stock to 7.1.1 if it isn't already. I believe bootloader must be 7.x.x for doing custom Oreo ROMs . Since mine was 6.0 it took about 8 updates OTA and maybe 2 hours(wifi) .
[!]I go to moto site and do the unlock bootloader dance (already carrier unlocked supposedly).
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
[!]Then flash twrp-3.2.1-0-addison.img (Alberto97) using fastboot on my PC. (Ubuntu 17.10 dev 18.04 with adb and fastboot)(dual boot win7)
I do this twice in a row as I have experienced it not working the first time (dead android LOL).(OCD much??? )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
- - -
[!] -->then flash Alberto's verity patch mentioned at the top of his TWRP thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
This modifies stock. Else your backups of stock won't boot. Learned this the hard way!
- - -
[!]Then use TWRP to backup (default settings) stock a couple of times and put copies of both on PC (via USB on stock).(or if for some reason my USB-C doesn't work, via wifi to my router using filezilla FTP and phone app: "wifi file transfer" by "DNL Media UG"(needs permission storage=on..) - I had to redo this twice - redo this twice - kept dropping back to stock recovery.
[!]Then flash the boot logo using fastboot on PC - I usually use TWRP for this but these that I found here are not set up to be TWRP flash compat so will just remove bin from zip and flash using PC. I think I have about 4 possibilities that I found on these threads. Nice! Easy.
[!]Then boot to TWRP and flash Alberto97's AOSP 8.1 arm64 ROM. Why that ROM you may ask. Been using mainly that Alberto97 ROM on my Moto G3 (32bit version of course), and love it. There's plenty of time to try all the others!!!
I usually consider 2 root options; SuperSU 2.82-SR5, or majisk 1520. (for future readers, these are the latest at this time.)(besides I'm very used to them.)
With SuperSU I have had no probs wiping all 4(Dalvik/ART, system, data, cache), flash ROM, flash 8.1 gapps, flash SUperSU, and boot to install.
With majisk I have sometimes had troubles during install if I flash majisk in the first batch so I tend to wipe all 4, flash ROM and gapps, and boot to install. Then when I finally hit desktop, boot back to TWRP and flash 1520 and reboot.
I need root to use TBPro - no restoring on first time with this 64bit ROM- got to do it the hard way!
SO I believe that's it, but if anyone sees a flaw or problem in there, I would appreciate your help.
Thanks!!!
yep look right, i would have added backup EFS and Modem partitions, if you want to be completely safe.
For now, open gapps 8.1 are only unofficial, i would feel a bit unsecure to use that, but it's only me.

Merci! Many thanks for looking in!!!
Yes, forgot to add that - did much xda search on the efs thing and best I found seemed to be a twrp-3.1.1-0-EFS-addison.img which I may very well flash first and do that since no other TWRP that I looked at offers backup efs. Official and squid2 derived (G3) don't. I assume Alberto's doesn't. Seems like I did it very manually on the G3. If you have it it's a pretty good guarantee that you'll never need it! (Murphy axiom)
As to unofficial gapps, I've been testing about 5 different 8.1 ROMs on the Moto G3 over the past couple months and if the gapps aren't built in to the ROM(some pixelexperience roms), all you can get is an unofficial gapps, or do a minor simple hack to an 8.0 so it will accept it. Usually devs will include it. Bless Alberto97 for not including it so I can select my own!!! But I've had no prob with gapps. Open gapps project has 8.0, but of course they won't work on a true 8.1 unless minor hack. I was planning on using open_gapps-arm64-8.1-aroma-20180109-UNOFFICIAL.zip (from https://cloud.kenzoroms.club/?dir=opengapps) unless you have a better idea. I wanted to grab camera from aroma(somebody's idea), but I also have about 5 other cameras and gcams waiting on the Sdcard that I want to test, simply because there seemed to be disagreement on what works on Alberto's new 8.1 build, so wanted to be able to report.
Thanks again!

Thanks for great link! yeah I think I used adb as well as an app last time. I'll add recovery this time so that's 3 backups on internal storage (and copied to PC) should be enough! (yes dear readers I am serious about this - 3 times! They are so tiny! And that pretty much guarantees I'll never need it, but if I do, it's childs play to get it back.)
Thanks!!!
If you're wondering about the delay, they sent me a -01 (Droid)(Murphy's law), so they paid for a UPS next day air label back to them(mailed at 4PM) - don't know if I'll get this going before Sat! Oh well!!! Never take these things too seriously!!! Gotta be costing them a chunk! I did briefly turn it on and stuck the SIM in it and it did show LTE on my ATT, but there's a few bands missing that are on the -02, so will wait. Pretty display, though!!! Really looking forward to it!!!

yes. stock 8.x is a no-no. This one that is coming is 6.0.1 So I will let it ota update to 7.1.1 after giving it a thorough check-out, then try unlocking it, etc. Sound right? I have no interest in any of the hardware-type addons, just the plain phone 3/32 octacore etc. Why this one? - I love the reception (radio) strength of Motos, plus a ton of other things. I stick with them. Plus it's all Albeto97's fault for deving on AOSP 8.1
Lol Alberto97's roms are buttery smooth!

I think they are. He recently came out with an 8.1 AOSP version for the Moto G3 and I love it. I test others, but that's my daily driver. Sure not perfect, but quite good enough for me!!! So I figure when I get it (Tues?) that's what I'll put on it. There's always plenty of time to test others!
Okay, since I am waiting for phone (Tues) , obviously I am worried about "what-if"s and so researching on what to do, "if".
I succeeded in finding a nice zip for 7.1.1 with the Nov security patch
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto Z Play/Stock/
(I am US)(there are many others at that nice site!!!)
That took a lot of time.
Then I needed to be sure that I could get RSD lite to run, and tried and tried to no avail to get it to recognize my phone (even on my laptop) (I was testing with an old Moto G3 stock zip and my G3 phone) before some post gave me a version number much higher than at the RSD site. google gave me:
http://rsdlite.en.lo4d.com/
version 6.2.4, which worked perfectly.
I really need to write a short guide on this stuff - feels like I'm re-inventing the wheel, even though many folks have written much before I came along!
The reason for the above two is that for a while the last few days I kept running into folks who had taken 7 OTA and wound up with a bricked phone. So, yes, I just did a search for "brick" on xda in moto z play and will start reading them! LOL
Quick EDIT: I think I am wrong in that brick assumption - the first 3 I looked at involved encryption and 2 downgrades to MM (which is a no-no). I will read further.
edit2 - nevermind - most are downgrading to MM. Wish folks would just ask before doing that. That is a no-no of most (all?) phones. -

I have no problem with various cameras getting good image, but sometimes on still first pic doesn't save. ( tried camera MX and Professional camera hd. I'm sure lots work about the same.)
Forgot to flash Alberto's verity patch right after flashing TWRP. So I had to RSD lite 7.1.1 Nov 1 and start over - no big deal! OP corrected.
