Could 7.1.1 battery drain be from apps not optimized - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Optimize all apps on 7.1.1system apps is there a fast multi select way
Noticed upon boot never does it and after looking into battery history telling me to do this but setting's menu under apps don't have a method . By the way this is on pure nexus ROM.
7.1.1 seems to drain the life fast and my device is new 3/days old

Pure Nexus isn't great for battery life compared with other ROMs I've been on. Android doesn't allow some apps to be optimized. If your battery life seriously concerns you then you might want to try an app like Naptime which puts your phone into deep doze as soon as the screen goes off. You could also download a kernel manager if you don't have one and see if you are using a performance oriented governor or something more battery friendly.

I took phone off charger at 8:49am by 25min later it persists to drain in 2% increment drops showing 5 hours left before 0% that's insane .
Not the 6p I remember when I had it once before the day it came out .
Any fixes any options recommendations

Try booting into safe mode and see if the problem persists.

If your phone truly is brand new, you're going to need to wait longer than 3 days to achieve optimal battery life. What is the date of manufacture in recovery>>barcodes? There are a few good apps that will tell you definitively what is draining your battery. BBS and GSam are two. It is also a great time to install Accubattery and get a benchmark on your current battery capacity vs. design.

Does that seem normal for waking up to a 100% charge then seeing 5 hr left within the first 25min off charger

The problem is not with stock Android 7.1.1. It could be your battery is defective or degraded. That's why I asked if your phone really is "brand new" or refurbished, and what the date of manufacture is. Install Accubattery and use it to calculate your battery's capacity vs. design.

Last few months my battery is also getting worse. Accubattery says capacity is around 2000mAh right now. I did often charge my battery, even when it wasn't below 50%. Maybe that killed it.

Not your fault mate, regardless of how you charged it. Battery was defective. Get an RMA if you can through Google or Huawei (even if it is out of warranty). If not, there are a few places selling good replacement batteries. Install yourself if you can, or take it somewhere to have the battery swapped out. Good luck to you.

Once we get charged up (and back down), let's see how the battery life in the S4 compares to the quad core.
Please make sure to include your screen on time, as that is the best indicator of light/heavy use.
pleasantly surprised
I can't believe how good the battery has been so far, 84% after 13hours (over night)
I am a light user. still - that is impressive for stock. I never got close to that with my OG Epic on stock which was usually 3% per hour.

1h, 3M Battery down to 76%.
screen on for 38 min, 33% of battery usage.
Heres mine on a first day full charge...
Not too bad for first day with moderate to heavy use!
This is heavy usage. Screen on time of 3.5 hours. Downloading Max Payne and a lot of apps. Downloading and listening to audio on Google chrome. Lots of Pulse usage. Games, YouTube, and 30 minutes of phone calls.
*edit* Bluetooth and wifi on all day long.

Here's mine for the first full day. Should my cell idle be taking up that much of the battery?

one thing im NOT noticing here is Allshare Service taking up a high percentage in your guys battery stats...
on mine its been at 7-9% and i dont know why, i have something waking up my phone when the screen is off and it might be that... ive forced stop, but i check later and its active again, ive disabled the service and the Allshare play in the application manager but still comes back on... hmmm i think im gonna have to root and just get rid of that file, or freeze it or something
Question... Does having all the motion settings on effect the battery? Also does having the NFC and sbeam on hurt the battery?

I wish I could get some stats like that. The screenshots are while I was sleeping and 7% seems like a lot of drain for it just sitting there. Only thing on was wifi. Cell standby time on is always the same as the time on battery, is that normal?
edit: the phone now shows 79% battery left with time on battery of 12h 46m; cell standby the exact same; screen on at 9% with time on of 48m. I'm fully stock and running power save mode.
Here are my stats. I think the battery life isn't too bad so far but we will see.

No, they will carry over until you re-charge or change the battery.
I was going to make a thread like this, but it was already here! Here are my results after my second full charge and regular usage. The results are on par with my fully modified and decked out Epic. Of course, this device has a bigger battery, but it also has a larger screen. Between the hardware and software upgrades, I'm very impressed with the stock battery life. This includes wifi on at all times as well as signal w/data. Some motion features are enabled, nfc is not, and google sync is off (I use stock email). Now how much further can this be improved?? Remember not to be discouraged, Screen On times will vary depending on what the phone is used for. Showing pictures is much less battery intensive than watching YouTube videos.

Help with Battery Life/Power Issues

Hey all
I've been having massive issues with my battery life recently, it's never been great however it's actually gotten a lot worse post Kit Kat. I've taken a few screenshots on a few different apps like GSam Monitor, Wakelock detector and Battery Widget, I was wondering if somebody could help me diagnose the issue. Or at least just give me general insights into the numbers that I'm getting in terms of battery life.
EDIT: Just noticed a new issue where a couple of times my battery was somewhere in the 40's and then the phone crashes and when I start it back again it just has about 2 % battery left. Weirdly enough, after charging it for a couple of minutes, that battery now goes up to 30%. Would love to know if somebody has had a similar issue and what might be a way to go about trying to find some sort of solution.

same battery issue here. Its not because software. i tryed CM11m11, Ubuntu Touch, stock.. same problem. Im waitting new battery, because i was not that gentle with batteru when i was repalcing camera 15 days ago.
Usualy moment before phone restart, lose sim signal, then freeze and restart
If flashing stock doesn't resolve it, I'd say the battery is dying. I went from 2 hours between charges to 12-14 with a new battery.

My battery is also dying (switched to new phone now). It averages about 1 hour of SOT over several days and it's only wifi only. I guess I could swap out a fresh one but it goes to show that we need easily removable batteries but they just don't last that long.

Did your battery life return to "normal"? Not that the Nexus 4 ever had great usage time. I might attempt it myself as a challenge.

Around 3-4 hours when my Bluetooth, mobile data(3G) and gps is on. But I can't tell it exactly cause I'm not using it that much anymore cause my primary phone is the N5.
I replace battery, now everithing works perfect. It was battery problem, not software.

Damn is my phone broken

So I bought the phone used for 350 USD. The guy claimed he only used it for two weeks.
Although the phone is great quality, but I think the battery is broken.
Its like drops a percent after other minute use. Anyone please confirm it it's not normal.
Do you know how can I log the battery usage?

From 100% to 70% for 4 hours, just chatting in Internet. Look log in "battery usage " where you can turn on/off "stamina". From 100 to 90 I drown fast. The most long battery life % when it is 60-40%
My phone drops a percent after 5 minutes from 100% and sometimes it takes less time .. but battery life is good

The problem is here when you buy the phone?Try to calibrate battery(there are a lot of methods). The older user probably used wrong his battery. Calibrate and try for another week ...and see the results Do you make a factory reset when you buy it? If you don't ...try it... sometimes factory reset fix batteries calibration problems Sometimes my battery drops like yours but depends what i do.
Yes i did make him do factory reset before I got it. But damn i rush i hadn't, i could have seen total run time.
I read on another thread where it said Facebook app drains battery a lot.
I haven't charged it to 100 percent yet. Will see how long it by doing it.
Uninstalling the Facebook app did make a difference.

Try a hard reset and then flash 4.4.4 again
You should confirm that if the phone is using stock firmware. or you should just flash the stock one by yourself. since you said USED phone.
also if it is battery issue. you should able to get a new one from ebay. and I think there is a video on youtube about open the back panel and change the battery.

Update
Just wanted to post an update.
The About information of my Sony device, non rooted and did complete up to date.
Right now I have it fully charged to 100 percent and have read a few calibration "How-to". I removed it from charged and rebooted the phone. I have install GSM Battery Manager as well.
I still don't know how I can delete battery stats and I think i can't considering the phone isn't rooted. I have stamina mode enabled + low GPU/CPU undervolting option in it.
Lets see how long it last.

Problems charging after latest t-mobile update

Has anyone had any trouble charging after the update? The one that promised optimized battery life? I always charge my phone in the morning so it's not just sitting at 100% during the night. I gave it almost 2 hours this morning and it only got to 67%. I used the Ampere app and it starts at like 100mAh and then slowly goes to about 800mAh and then fluctuates in between. I know nothing is wrong with the charger because I plugged in my note 3 with the same app and it showed 1200mAh which is what the charger is rated for. I've also had slightly worse battery life after updating. The day I updated I could only get 3:28 sot, and before updating I could easily get 4 and a half to 5+ sot. Anybody have a problem like this or maybe a fix?
Hello, yesterday was my first day after the update and my battery life went from 3.5 hrs SoT too 4.5-5.0 hrs. Yesterday was the first 5hrs of SOT I've ever had. I'm happy my device is normal. It all depends on the usage like today I'm using my phone a little more. I'm using more battery. But in not tripping if I wanted to save battery I know I could!! It's very possible.

Try restarting your phone. Might sound dumb I know but I've had instances where fast charging didn't work until I restarted or that my battery percentage was not "correct"
I've restarted many times now and tried wiping the cache but still nothing. The battery seems to be depleting semi-normally again, still not as good as it was but the charging still takes a long time.
Have you tried it without the app?
By the way, the phone using Qhich Charge 2.0 has built in software that communicates with the charger. No need for a 3rd party app.
I haven't had any problems charging after the update.
The app doesn't help charge the phone, it just shows how many mAhs are going into the phone from the brick. Since the phone has been charging so slowly I wanted to see if power coming in was being slowed or something for some reason

I just disabled fast charging. Restarted. Then re-enabled. Back to normal now.
Does the last update from tmobile does increase your battery life? Or at least gives you better battery.

My battery life is about the same now, but it's still the charging part. It's shown it'll take about 3 hours to charge but when I let it charge yesterday it's still going as of now with 4+ SoT. So battery life is okay, it's the charging. I'll try disabling and restarting and see if that helps
Sent from my SM-G935T using XDA-Developers mobile app
If all else fails, do a factory reset. I did after this last updated since it seems like it was a pretty important one. Differently get better sot, better battery drain while idle. Everything is backed up in the cloud so it wasn't that big of a deal.
I've tried the reset, knowing that a factory reset would have to be next. But charging seems to be back to normal now. I still think it's a little slower than it was, but when I plug it in, it shows anywhere from an hour to an hour 20(when my phone is under 10%). I think it's coming back slowly

Bad battery life on Nexus 4

Hi!
I recently purchased a used Nexus 4 in very good condition.
However I was having problems with the battery not lasting very long. So I replaced it with one from a reseller that sells original spares (called "lgspares", I can't post links.).
Battery life is still bad. My battery usually lasts about 12-13 hours and is therefore empty in the afternoon or early evening.
This is quite annoying.
I am running cm-13.0-20160429-SNAPSHOT-ZNH0EAO2YJ-mako without Google Apps.
I run the following apps that (possibly) sync in the background:
* DavDroid to sync to a CalDav server, runs every 4 hours.
* K9 Mail to sync to an IMAP server, turned off IMAP push, runs every 30 minutes.
* FOSS Telegram, which does not use GCM. However I turned off "Background Connection" in the settings.
I used to have smaller intervals set for DavDroid and K9 and recently increased them to have a better battery life. However this did not have a big impact.
I ran battery historian for two usual days:
* Day 1:

Questions:
*I can see that the battery level decreases quite a lot while the screen is on. Does that simply mean that I have a bad battery?
*Did I miss something in the battery historian graph?
Thanks for your help!
How many hours of screen on time do you get? The Nexus 4 (or really any before the 6p) didn't have great battery life...

I see, that's unfortunate.
According to battery historian it was 2h7m for day 1 and 3h15 for day 2.
Is that average (for a N4)?

My N4 was rooted, and I used a kernel profile to help conserve the battery. I was also not running the screen @ full brightness. I usually managed to get through the day on one charge.

I will look up ways to adapt the "kernel profile"/cpu governor/etc. .
Actually the battery life has gotten better suddenly. I think the only adjustment I did was disabling vibration feedback while typing.
I will watch the behavior during the next days and possibly report back
Thanks for your input so far!

I will check these out!
I have disabled developers options and uninstalled Wakelock Detector.
The phone charged until 9am this morning and just now (10 hours later) it is at 70%.
Could it be that Wakelock Detector itself was draining the battery or that the developer options are to blame?
I am baffled.
You may need to restart the phone to show true battery level if that doesn't work download ampere app from Google play and make sure you are not using a very slow charger Normal charger would be a measuring of 600ma in my experience
also check settings battery see what is consuming most battery life
You likely need a new battery. These phones are 3yrs old. I had to replace mine every 1.5 years.
