Galaxy S7 Comparison with Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera - Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi, I'm made comparison with S7 and Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera, both devices are set on Auto mod. The Galaxy S7 has proved to be very good in compression with DSLR.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HsKEu7po-M
If you have suggestion or some idea what would you want to see next write here! :highfive: :good:

Interesting comparison. I'm a photographer and shoot with a Nikon d7000. On my recent travels to Australia over the summer I found those moments when I had the camera in my backpack and I needed to take a quick snap my galaxy s7 was more than capable and has produced some excellent images for me so I'd agree with what you are saying in terms of a point and shoot the gs7 really comes up trumps
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Good comparison video, I'd say in some shots the S7 looked better, the main places the NIKON won were zooming in on the images, the higher resolution really shows up there, but overall considering this is a phone vs a DSLR, it does pretty damn well

Thanks , Yeah S7 camera is very good. But DSLR have more settings in manual mode

Would be interested to see some manual mode comparisons too
Take the best quality shot possible with Nikon vs S7 in manual mode using all features each device has to offer, day and low light/night

dslr has also different lens dimension, no phone can be compared with such a camera

wait for Canon fans, buddy
Looks you're using stock 18-55 lens, right? those ones are very dim. on my old D5100 I'm suing 18-70 and it's a whole world of difference. You know what? Should I make the same shoot-out with D5100 and S7 and send you the pics? PM me if interested.
But in general - I was really impressed with s7 pics quality. Hands down, the very best I ever saw from the phone and well suppressed my expectations.

Yea do the comparison, it'll be interesting to see, no need for PM just post them here
S7 is very impressive camera wise, obviously it's never going to beat a DSLR but the fact that people are making comparison videos says a lot about it's quality

My review and hands-on results with HTC EVO 4G’s 8MP Camera - Paris In Photos

After I got the EVO 4G at Google I/O, I went to France for my honeymoon, and have been using the EVO for taking pictures and videos all around Paris.
My review of the camera and the photos have just been posted at AndroidPolice.com: Review And Hands-On Results With HTC EVO 4G’s 8MP Camera – Paris In Photos
Videos coming later - I'm having trouble uploading them to Youtube from the crappy Internet connection.
Enjoy!

Keep us posted if it happens again.
Sounds like the new SD card will fix the problem.
I've got my own SD card already loaded with music and pics.
When I get my Evo on Friday, I will just swap it out and be good to go.
Thanks for the post...
To be honest, I am disappointed with the picture quality. I am jealous you went to Paris, and your pictures looked fine, they were just not the quality I was expecting from an 8mp camera. They looked like a 3mp image over sharpened. FWIW, it won't stop me from test driving an Evo.
Everyone forgot to say Congratulations! on getting married. Welcome to eternal lockdown and possibly garnished paychecks. J/P in all seriousness congrats and the pics are beautiful.
any native resolution pics?? or uncompressed?? same thing, i know, not sure the technical term.
what settings are you using?

Agreed. This camera is VERY good.. people are just expecting too much when they hear "8 megapixels". The sensor and optics in the camera on the back are great. Plain and simple. Don't drop your DSLR or point-and-shoot just yet, but definitely keep the EVO handy because with the processor, the pictures snap quickly and they geotag super fast and are easy to send to Flickr. I love it.
To answer some of the questions above, the settings are all auto - the only thing I changed was the resolution. No sharpening has been done, either when shooting or after. In fact, the camera doesn't have a sharpen option at all.
The website doesn't alter the photos either - what you are viewing in the lightbox is the full thing, granted it's scaled down by the browser to fit your screen. If you want to view the full size, just right click and copy link or Save As.
And thank you for the congratulations
I still think the camera on the EVO is really nice - yes, the optics could improve but I'm loving that I don't actually HAVE to have my point-and-shoot with me to produce some nice pics.

Pixs of my Daughter

These 2 pixs are of my daughter I am posting to show how good the basic camera in the Vibrant is. These were my 1st try at this. I used a prism and Held in front at a distance to make the effect (free hand holding, that is why not perfectly clear).
Kinda cool ... this little camera ... is quite good

You should get a GOOD camera and compare the difference. You probably won't say the same thing after that.
Canon g11, Canon s90, or something equivalent (not all cameras are created equal)
^ Why would a $350-500 ACTUAL camera be a good comparison?
Those are cool shots man. I took some pics while in Alaska that blew me away at how good they look, even on a large pc screen. Very impressed with the camera as well.

What is your point? The SGS takes great pictures. Of course the S90 and G11 may take better pictures in certain situations, but the point of a camera phone is its always with you.
I went to a car show last weekend and brought my SGS and a Canon SD780IS. I ended up using my SGS the majority of the time because the pictures were amazing given everything was outdoors.
Have cameras
Since I do have a Canon G 11, Nikon D200 and D90 and I have to use all for my work They are all great cameras. The G11 is the best point and shoot out there) The comparison is not to compare cameras that have a 2.8 lens (1"+ aperture opening size) to one that is 1/16" lens, that is an incorrect comparison. The correct comparison is comparing to the other phone camera out there and this one is pretty easy and pretty decent compared to the 1/2 dozen I have had in the past.
WTf do you guys want me to tell you? All of you are harping and going on about a cell phone whose photos are not as good as digital cameras that cost the same amount

Uh, because that is what a Vibrant costs?
Maybe you guys think that diffraction-limited, low dynamic range, under-saturated photos are great... but the only time I pull out any cell phone to take a picture is when I don't have a real camera with me.
They aren't horribly bad photos, but they aren't anything to write home about. You could get photos of the same quality from a $90 el cheapo digital camera.
If you make a post saying "hey, look how awesome these photos are", and the photos aren't awesome... then maybe its stupid of you get angry, eh?
Are you serious man?
Here I was thinking we were on a forum for phones.....
The effect
The point was showing the effect with a phone cam is possible and was kinda kewl not a rhetorical argument about the photos per-se I guess I should have mentioned I modified the camera app software as well, but I figured most of the ppl here would have already guessed that.

so you want to compare a $500 device that is practically a portable computer with a 5MP camera attached to it to a $500 device which is a PROFESSIONAL CAMERA with probably 12+MP.
Yeah thats a comparison. shut up.
The point the author and the rest of us are trying to make is that the pictures are amazing for what it is.
My girlfriend has a motorola RIZR Z3 with a piece of crap 1.3MP camera. she takes lots of pictures with it and sends them to me, and ya know what, they look pretty good coming from that piece of crap camera.
But when she sees the pictures i take with my nexus she's amazed that they came from a phone. Now do they look as good as the pictures from my olympus or nikon? hell no, but they sure as hell look damn good when you say they came from a phone.
And not everyone likes to carry around a big DSLR everywhere they go too. Hell i went up to Washington DC for a week long vacation and i didn't bring that thing along because of how bulky it is.
The man wanted to show pictures that in his opinion looked pretty good considering it was a cellphone. Im pretty sure we all know that for a fact cameras are only designed for quality pictures..and the only point you people are proving is how none of you care to show the world that you all waste your time with pointless arguments

I agree with you neok44.... +1
Being realistic....a phone camera is just that, a phone camera.
Maybe in 5 more years they will take good pictures, but for now, not a single one is worth it to use as anything more than just a "it's all I had with me at the time" type camera.
My 10 year old Sony F550V blows my Vibrant out of the water in pic quality. Of course it has a real Zeiss lense....but hey

8 MP Superior Auto vs 15 MP Superior Auto

Hi everyone,
As i have rooted my Z2, i was able to install Xposed Framework. In Xposed Modes i found a mode which 'force' camera to use full 20 mp (or 15 mp in wide shot) in Superior Auto Mode. I have taken some pics to compare quality but couldn't understand anything. As i know, many of you guys are very interested in photography and know a lot about it, i decided to share some pics with you and let you decide which is better. Here's the link of 4 pics, 2 of them in 8 mp and 2 with 15 mp. (The names of the files indicate 'MP'): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vvpghc7w187b1ia/_uUAk9NFry
Can provide more shots if needed.

Great effort. Somehow I noticed the 15 mp has a wider angle. Generally they look very close and still very good quality for both, maybe different lighting conditions and in daylight too maybe easier to distinguish which is best.
There is a great discussion on quality 8MP and 20MP. Many say 8Mp is better than 20MP, which contain more vivid colors. This video explains a little about!

The reason I felt brash enough to say something is because half of all my posts since I've been here have been on that exact topic in other threads that explain in detail what is lost and what isn't. I know for a fact there's info available to answer your question without changing the topic of this thread. I'd link them for you but I'm about to watch Game of Thrones.... You motivated me to finally put up an avatar.
From my tests and I've done a lot of them since I got the phone last month.
8mp in manual mode with my own settings produced the best results in all lighting conditions. Focusing for me is the z2's greatest problem and one which gets worse the more you increase the resolution.
From the watch photo the OP posted, you can clearly see that the 8mp sample is better focused. At 8mp, everything is better, detail preservation, focus, contrast and dynamic range. Yes you can't zoom in as far as you can with the 15 and 20.7mp snaps but the quality is noticeably better.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks, very interesting!
Quality is comparable, actually at certain shots SA at 8MP is maybe a more consistently detailed, 15MP is sometimes a little noisier and I don't see much quality edge.
Where this can be very useful however is shooting large resolution full 4:3 frame SA images, as on stock we're limited to 8MP @16:9. It makes sense to give the full 4:3 option, and I'd love to see some 8MP vs. 20MP SA comparisons, if you have the time. :good:

Yeah, but I consider almost every flagship phone released, so that doesn't mean I will buy it. I currently have an S6, but if the G4 camera and screen turn out to be better, and the software doesn't make me cry, then I would consider switching from the S6.

Gotcha, noticed some of your posts about the S6. It will be interesting to see if you will jump ship to the G4. Some members choose to believe the official releases will be better than the previous pre production units. Time will tell. Some (in fact I think all) of the pics have that kind of water colour painting look when you zoom in to 100% and that's usually the result of over aggressive noise reduction (isn't it?) so that's why I'm keen to see some RAW files (particularly of low light shots)
I'm curious about the G4 as well, as I do plan on upgrading over the summer, especially since the camera is pretty much my highest priority. Thus far, it's between this and the S6. Of course, even if the pics are great, I need to see the phone in person anyway. I am worried about the size though since I don't have large hands... XD
I see the pics just fine, though I do have a Flickr account, so not sure if that's a factor to those who can't see the pics. Maybe the OP changed the settings, no idea. I like the pics you have so far, but I definitely wanna see some low lights shots and some indoor pics as well.

LG G4 Camera <3
Why i Love the LG G4's Camera:
In my Opinion, the G4 has the best multitalent camera in all smartphone's cameras.
Speed is almost as good as iPhone 6+ and S6
Superior Dynamic Range
All Photo/Video Recording Modes (4k,1440p,1080/60p,720/120p) and 16 Megapixels
HDR-Video is also on-board.
Laser-AF just needs 0.1s to Focus! Wow...
Good Low-Light Performance
Ranklist of best phone Cameras in my opinion:
LG G4
SGS6 (Has best speed, but only almost LG G4 Quality)
SGN4/EDGE
Nokia Lumia 1030 (Speed got much better than 1020. But is still not the best.)
Lumix FZ1000 Beats all phones
6 Questions about the LG G4 Camera, please answer, if you can
Question 1:
Does the LG G4 Record Slow-Motion Video, like i described here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/slow-motion-phones-device-how-to-imo-t2998500
Question 2:
The LG G4 is still not in the German Tech Shops.
How many Burst Shots can you shoot in row?
Question 3:
Is burstshot also possible with HDR?
Question 4:
Can you boost the OIS with Digital Image Stabilisation to maximize the stabilisation=?
Question 5:
Which Bitrate is used to record 4K-Video on the G4?
Question 6:
Has the G4 got a PHYSICAL shutter button?

camera must be on the par or better to s6 or iPhone 6
screen not as badly saturated as S6 . How does it look side by side with iPhone 6?
I hope it doesn't lag By the way how is the battery life and your impression over all?

Cool shots! Have you played with the manual mode much?
Brilliant photos! I think it's a brilliant camera...I do think the colour is slightly flushed out in some of the 'nature' shots...more vibrant on the S6 camera...but when you consider ALL phones features, the G4 craps on the S6 overall.

Best option is to shoot in DNG and edit those images in a program like Photoshop or Lightroom. A standard DNG file will look like **** untill you play around with the settings, you will get great contrast, colours
I'm planning to go to Japan in October. I'm a photography noob, any tip for me for taking quick quality pictures? Will probably do a lot of urban, nature and landscape photos.
I love this Cam, i have not played much with it, here are some fast Shots:

I wish something like snapseed could open DNGs.. I like to be able to do everything on my phone. I know you can get Light Room but I don't wanna pay $10 a month subscription really.. are there any other options?

Brilliant photos! I think it's a brilliant camera...I do think the colour is slightly flushed out in some of the 'nature' shots...more vibrant on the S6 camera...but when you consider ALL phones features, the G4 craps on the S6 overall.

Thanks! I agree sometimes they are a bit over saturated when shot in JPEG. DNG is much more natural but they require a bit more work to edit!
VERY nice mate! SImply, fantastic! I've ordered a tripod with telescopic lens... looking forward to taking some landscape pictures

Guys, how to to set up the camera if I want to shot fast-moving objects, like motorcycles or cars...? Sorry, I know it's off-topic, but I really am curious!

Not seen a 5:4 aspect in a while but it works well here.
What are your major uses for snapseed ? i can see it was used for cropping, adding filters here & there. anything else.

Spot on...the only issue there is, I dpn't think we have Adobe Lightroom for Andriod yet, lol...and it can take a few minutes of mucking around if you are meticulous with bright, deep contrasting colours...the S6 does this better than the G4, but as you have said, shootingin RAW/DNG format allows you countless possibilities if you have the program and are prepared to learn and/or spend time in Lr fixing it up.

I would use manual mode and set the shutter speed to as fast as possible. Or use auto mode with fast shutter to capture multiple shots.. you'll have to do some experimentation

Holy crap, they do too! I must admit to never having checked...I'll have more fun with mobile photography now...although with my own personal images I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist and go by my MUCH larger UHD monitor on 'how good something looks'.

Thanks! It wasn't intentional.. I Just cropped it until I thought it looked good!
I use it for pulling out some of the shadows with the "Ambience" control. I also like to bring out some details and sharpness depending on the image. I have used it to add blur and do some spot repairing in some images as well as use the brush to increase/reduce saturation in specific areas. I like the fact you can edit your history and even mask out areas of a certain effect, very useful!

The one thing i've always wanted was a levels correction but i've not seen any app on mobile that does it as reliably or as simply as on the pc.
Not auto, just let me set markers with a histogram.
