Shield Tablet Firmware Update 5.1 Android N - Shield Tablet General

I'm using RoW LTE on my US-LTE device and I just received the 5.1 update 5 minutes ago. I'm excited to see some improvements. It seems launcher 3 crashes were one of the most dominant problem of 5.0. good thing I'm always using Google now.
If someone has finished installing theirs, how's the experience so far?

Haha I know what you mean. Although kudos still to Nvidia developers team for patiently updating our device.
Yours is wifi or RoW?

I just got the update and install it on my rooted and unlocked Nvidia Shield ORIGINAL Tablet. The update downloaded and successfully installed through TWRP, that said I’m pretty sure I lost root but that's easy enough to get back.
Update: You have to reinstall custom recovery. Also my device has seemed a bit laggy, it took about 15 seconds for my virtual keyboard to pop up to make this post.

I tried that using the URL pattern from Android M but I couldn't get the right changes. Maybe others will have better luck.
Btw, for those who have installed it, the new update messed up my TWRP. Just re-flash it.

After flashing TWRP and wiping cache and dalvik, it became quite laggy. Weird. I'll let it "settle" for a while.
I guess no matter how much this device gets updated, it can never escape the occasional lags. I suspect that these are caused by Nvidia apps. I wonder why nobody has called out this phenomenon yet.
Or maybe, it's about time that Nvidia release some technical docs for the geniuses of XDA to be able to make their own mods or improvements.

I received it some hours ago on Original LTE model.
Tablet is very smooth, 98 500 on antutu in performance mode.

I just flashed this update with flashfire and all is perfect just download the full update open the flashfire app and click flash and job done. I kept TWRP and root, it's by far the easiest way to flash the update.

Today didn't get more reboots, but still is soon to determine/be inclined for some cause...
I am on 12.1-YOGA4PAS3AJ international version. I have random reboots since I have the device. Since the latest OTA I have up to 3 reboots per day.

I encounter a reboot in the following scenario:
- change from airplane mode to normal operation and open SIM1 settings before the phone connects to mobile network
- search for mobile networks on SIM1 in my home area (carrier is E-Plus Germany, only 2G available). Searching for mobile networks when the phone is connected to 3G network doesn't cause a reboot.
I experienced a random rebbot yesterday with latest CM update. Today works fine
Random reboots here since I got my stock device about four weeks ago. Updated regularly, no noticeable improvement. Currently running 12.1-YOG4PAS3AJ and it keeps rebooting about 2 times in 3 days. If it reboots, it reboots twice ore more a day, sometimes it runs smoothly the following two do four days.

If the security patch is anything like an OTA, it won't.
How do we incorporate simple security updates into unofficial ROMs. Sounds like something that would be simple enough.

7.0.0 firmware

Looks like they finally released 7.0.0 software for the 5x, NRD90M

yep time to factory flash. 6p is missing, sounds like there is more issues over there.
Just noticed, downloading now!
Already flashed. So far things are great and fluid. All my apps restored including data, did not even have to log in. Impressed.

I've been holding it until the final release ... pushing the OTA now ...
"C:\Users\blabla\Downloads>adb sideload bullhead-ota-nrd90m-fdb8250a.zip
serving: 'bullhead-ota-nrd90m-fdb8250a.zip' (~56%)"
***Update: It finished, and working great so far! Since I pushed the OTA there was no need to reinstall any apps or restore app data. However, when I have some free time (2-3 hours), I'd like to do a fresh factory install to compare performance. I didn't run into any issues with the OTA yet.

Actually that's not true. It mostly depends from which DP you started receiving updates. eg. I clean installed DP5, which had some features removed (eg. night mode, and it's also missing from the final), whereas someone who started clean from DP1 will have it on the final. For the final I guess they were waiting to update the Google Apps, such as Connectivity Services which got updated after the final OTA.

No, fastboot
I'll do it late tonight when I have time to spend doing a full wipe. I'm not looking forward to the fight to root it though. From what I understand, Google is cracking down on rooting.

It's really really really hard to root this phone. Fastboot flashing TWRP then flashing SuperSU in TWRP is tough. I don't know how I ever did it.
When someone that knows what they are talking about says Android is getting harder to root, they mean for those that initially find it (chainfire), not the user. For you and I, it's only a matter of flashing a cute little zip in our custom recovery.

I understand that, but I read this article (a month old) talking about the secure boot and only being able to boot and use partial operating system features if it detects corruption, such as rooting.

Is there a way to force the OTA?
I bought Mi 6 Ceramic Edition last week and it immediately got an OTA update for MIUI 9, lucky me!
And one thing to confirm, it got long exposure 32s! (this is the one feature that held my decision back and forth whether to buy Mi6 or not)

Yeah once you have the update package just select it from the top right menu of the updater app.
Took about 5 mins to flash and reboot on my phone.
All working as before no issues only improvement.
It seems to select what parts of the system to update because there's no way it flashed 1.5gb onto my phone. Must follow the same install as the OTA

Previous stable.
The release channels are completely separate.
If you're on beta I would honestly stay there. Global release doesn't necessarily indicate there will be no more beta updates and also there won't be a lot of difference for you in terms of stability.
If you do really want to change then clean install the stable ROM.

It must just be an identifier for the ROM version.
