Nougat Device Maintenance on Verizon? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Did Verizon take out the damn device maintenance? If so, why the hell do they do this crap. Come on Verizon. Stop taking features that are supposed to be built into our phones away and putting in junk.

I have never used quick shortcut maker. Wouldn't you have to be able to access the app by a search for that to work? Where do I find quick shortcut maker?

The options are in the setting menu already, however the ultra usefull app that let you just hit Optimize Now is gone. I had a shortcut already on my homescreen and it just says app not installed when I try to launch.
It's a ****ing shame that VZW decided to pull that out. One of the most useful tools on the device.

Why would it be called "torch"? That's what british people call it. Here in the US, they're called "flashlights". And on a phone, it should always be called flashlight, because you're literally using the camera's flash as a light.

that isn't the only omission, the mark as read and quick reply buttons from the message notification are gone also.

Settings>Three Dots (top right beside search)>View Simplified List>Device Maintenance

this works thank you, damn verizon just hide it, but it doesnt let you clear your ram or add to home screen or stop the programs.

Change "Hi Galaxy" to "Okay Google Now" functionality?

Having fooled around with a friend's Moto X, I must say the "Okay Google Now" functionality is really cool. These Note 3s obviously have the hardware necessary to implement it, but Samsung went with the half-assed "hi galaxy" thing instead. Now that root has been achieved! I am hoping there is some way to replace the stock function with the one from the moto x. Anybody know how, other than the Open Mic+ app, which seems to not function the same, as it is a major battery hog.
Yes this x10000000000
I've been looking for an app or something that changes, the function of Hi, galaxy. Even If I said "Hi, galaxy" and it triggered Google Now

Correct. With wanam I have mine set to double click the home button for Google search instead of s voice . Works flawlessly
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
I bet you could set up tasker to automatically kill S-voice and open Google Now.
That way you just say "Hi Galaxy" and you'll get straight to Google now.
I think this is probably very doable

btw if you guys are ONLY looking for the double click to google now functionality, try home2 shortcut, doesn't require root either, I use it and I put it on my customers phones (who won't root obv)
For the moment my workaround is to say "Hi Galaxy, Open Google Search". Then "Google, who is the president of the United States?", or whatever your Google Now need is.
But hopefully we can get something that works a little more flawlessly.
I would also like to show my interest in this! Changing the hot word would be amazing, but "Hi Galaxy" opening up into Google Now listening mode would be enough for me!
Edit: I have not had time to set up tasker.. Has anyone used the "when voice opens, close it, and open Google Now" work around? How was the experience?

I feel like it would be way too slow, but I have tasker, I'll try to set it up later today.
I have this working with the Tasker workaround, and while it takes about 3 seconds to start listening, I love the results! Heads up though, If I enabled the wake up command option on S-Voice, Voice Search would have trouble opening the mic. Make sure to turn this option off. FYI this is the one that allows hot word detection while in the S-Voice app, not the always listening option.

I would LOVE this functionality, S-voice STINKS! - its super slow, the voice sucks, and the results stink too.
What it DOES to very well is wake up from sleep.
I would love to see if we can get some Devs involved to make "hi galaxy" open up google now search, or even change the keyword
to "ok Google" just like the the Moto x.
Would you guys be interested in starting a bounty for this functionality?
Im willing to throw a few bucks in the pot.

I'm not sure, but if you install the new Kit Kat 4.4 Google Launcher, you can use Ok Google and it works pretty well.
Just a couple of things though. It only works when you are on your launcher screen and as of now, you need to be rooted (you need to replace a system file that is listed on page 3, the libgoogle_recognizer)
Just check out the thread on Installing the new google launcher.

I have tried the Kitkat Launcher. after being a hardcore pure AOSP android guy for almost 4 years
I ended up right back with touchwiz launcher. I actually like it MUCH better. The Kitkat launcher is
just too plain and lacks basic functionality like limits on icons in folders.. seriously?
Stock touchwiz launcher with "Hi Galaxy" to wake up from sleep directly and instantly go to Google voice search is the way
to go.

That's not it.
Every time this issue comes up people keep talking about the check box for the incoming call popup. That has nothing to do with it. Look at the picture in the original post. There is a floating blob of a call timer when you multi task on any call.
I think he was offering a solution to the other guy's issue. Not yours
This was on the G3, but could be removed with root, xposed, and G3 tweakbox. Until then nothing you can do..

You could just move it out if the way of your directions....

The G2 had a feature to remove the floating dialer. I do find it useless since the notification shade HAS all the same controls. THAT option in the dialer is actually the little floating popup that allows you to ANSWER or IGNORE that floats over apps. With it disabled, you will get the full screen phone app on incoming calls.

Wherever I move it, it just blocks something else. It starts out by default toward the upper left. So when I switch apps to navigation, it is right there and I was expecting to see my turn direction. Couldn't move it in time since I was driving.

Disable app drawer?

Was on Twitter and found this article http://m.androidcentral.com/samsung-labs-feature-galaxy-s7-lets-you-turn-app-drawer about removing the app drawer. I want to enable this feature but can't find the option in settings.
This is a setting that is probably disabled by us carriers..... I hope sprint and others leave it in but will probably have to root and install rom for it....

Well what's wrong in having choice not everyone have to like the same thing and set up. For people who use very less number of apps I can see this being simple. Even with iPhone or without app drawer you can use one finger swipe down gesture and bring up app search control. I don't see a big deal without app drawer but I would prefer to leave it up to the user to decide if they want or not as a setting.

Automatic default App setting

Does any one know if there is a way to disable the automatic saving as default app. Or bring back the 'just once' option.
I'd love this too, but it appears that they have removed this feature. I was looking at App Picker Classic, but I haven't been able to make it do what I want. YMMV

I don't see why they had to ruin a good thing. I wouldn't even mind if the automatic set they have was a default setting that ind could choose to disable, but taking away the the choice not set a default app blows. Hell it is unconstitutional.
Yup. Same feels here bro. Just like them removing the option for adoptable storage because they thought it would confuse people. Hopefully someone finds an ADB workaround or magic command like they did for adoptable storage to "fix" what Samsung broke.
Another one to try:

Same. This is so annoying especially for example when I I search in Google now and find d a restaurant. Then click share. It want
S to choose a default app to share with. And with the locked bootloader we are now just stuck.
Lame.
I think samsung removed it because they want people to usw their own apps more.

Always On Display got really dark lately

I have auto-brightness and battery saving disabled, but for some reason Always On Display just gets really dark either immediately after locking the device, or after few seconds. This hasn't been the case for over a month I've owned the phone, so wondering if this is a new version of AOD issue (1.1.22)?
Anyone has a fix or more information on the subject?
Can you uninstall the update and see if it goes back to the way it was. Samsung may be trying to reduce battery use by AOD.

Yes, it's the latest version of AOD that does this. Now that the reviews of the S7/Edge are all done, Samsung can finally update their phones to their intended versions

If you go into the Application manager, and find AOD, you should be able to uninstall it, which will revert to the original version.

One updates the Galaxy Apps app itself, the second - all other apps downloaded through the Galaxy Apps. So turning off the second one is enough to disable the auto update for AoD.
