Help - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I tried to root it and install twrp and my phone rebooted to a screen all messed up. I can't see the screen. Is there a way to flash back to stock? I have a h910 phone.

Yes. There is.
LGup
You should search for LGup and h910 in the forums. It will give explicit directions as to how to get back to what you desire, but beware, you can mess that up too.
Read thoroughly. Then read it again. And again.

No there is no way to go back for the h910. As for the screen turn the screen off cover the sensor by the front camera till the secondary screen goes off then turn the screen on you need to do that each reboot

Yes.
There is a way back to STOCK.
You need to search a bit.
The only phone not able to return to stock is the ls997 (sprint) variant.

No. Search in the section called 'guides ... Blah blah blah' for a post titled 'how to revert back to stock'
I'll not do the work you are too lazy to accomplish bub.
Edit: you guys really need to learn how the search function works. Your question for me to post a link could have been self answered with the same amount of work.
If you cannot work a search button you've no business rooting your phone. You can bork it unrepairably.

This is a simple method to restore your v20 to stock, I have tried with my bricked H990DS with wrong bootloader flashed.
1. Download .kdz file for your v20 model from the following links. Currently v20 models available are:
F800K, F800L, F800S, H915, H918TN, H990, VS995, H990N and H990DS

Apologies. Wrong thread. I've things to accomplish for the evening. Best of luck mastering the search function.
I'm rooting for you.

There is a h910pr listed but I can't be certain if it applies to your model or not.

Ignore elijah420, unfortunately there are a few rude people on these forums that like to flex their e-muscle by putting others down instead of helping not everyone is like this (fortunately) instead of just providing a link he takes longer to complain.

Was running rooted and fine, then one day after flashing a ROM i was in a twrp boot-loop, after hours of muttering through xda and google i ended up risking the h910pr rom from lgup. i am fortunate and would love to be able to help if something from my phone can help. my carrier settings and data work fine. its actually much better than the att firmware with less bloat. besides the rare notification in Spanish and the claro boot logo, it seems to work wonderfully.

[Q] Did I just turn my G2 into a masonary block?

So, I think I've bricked my LS980. Was rooted runing the stock rom happily when I stupidly accepted a LG UIUU? update. Phone rebooted into TWRP recovery and thats all it will do. Didn't make a backup yet because as I alluded to earlier, I'm stupid. When I power off from TWRP it asks to Install Supersu to gain root yet that does nothing. When I boot into download mode it says rooted on the bottom. I have no idea where to go from here. Is there even an option? I'd love to go back to stock and never mention this again... Any idea? Sorry that I suck

Any way to block update requests on stock ROM when you have custom recoveries? That would be a good idea to prevent mishaps.

When you get ota and is ready to install just use root explorer or root browser and go into cache and delete the update....then click install an it will fail or do nothing and just cancel!

Unfortunately I think you'll probably need to revert to stock, then. Unless something has changed since I had to do this with my vs980, you will lose all data, but the good news is your phone won't be bricked anymore:

Hey cmm67 I don't know if this will help you but I was trying to get my phone back to stock a couple days ago and was having trouble. Mine would stay in download mode at 0% every time until I retried the instructions for the lgflashtool. I was extracting the file into the LG flash tool folder using Zipeg but once I tried 7zip it seemed to work. Once again sorry if this doesn't help at all I'm writing this from memory (hence being so vague about the instructions) and on my phone. Hope you get it fixed!

Spring LG V20

Hey everyone, was wondering if the Sprint variant of the LG V20 has been rooted yet? If so, can you direct me to the link that tells me what to do? I would google it myself, or search these forums myself, but this military network I'm on makes it tough. As it is, this page is all wonkey looking when viewing it from the military network.
EDIT: just noticed the title of the post says Spring...that's a mis-spell, it's supposed to be Sprint. LOL
Definitely not easy at the moment!

Yes, the device is root-able
Follow Dirty Santa ,
At the point where it says to download the stock sprint rom, come over to my thread {Rom} LS997 as thats for the sprint V20,
Download the version of the rom you think fits best, Im using version 5.5 " L " and its liquid smooth, good battery life, no random Fc.
still working on some decent mods to add but its the basics with all the bloat gone, and a ton of tweaks and built in mods to make it run as good as it should.
Just read everthing in both op's 1st and get a good idea before starting. You will need a pc with fastboot and adb setup to do the dirty santa half, one you get into twrp you wont need pc anymore.
If youve downloaded the latest update, you mise well install it and get that out of the way as it will cause twrp loops if its downloaded and not installed yet. that or delete it using twrp and my HELP me post further down in the thread
Good luck!

Thank you for the responses. I appreciate it.
And if you get stuck in a bootloop of twrp recovery - you just need to do the battery pull, hold vol down, power button, trick.

LG V20 T-Mobile Rooting - Soo many threads; I have no idea what I'm doing

I've done a bit of research, searched through threads on this forum, and I still have no idea what I'm doing. The last phone I rooted was a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.
What's the simple-man's way of rooting the T-Mobile variant of the LG V20? I see the below threads:

First which firmware are you on now? 10i, 10j, 10k, what? I think 10k is not rootable. But... If you have older firmwares then you can root with dirtycow method. it is not that hard. I think the hardest part should be to try to flash the twrp (but even that was easy at least for me an average flasher and tester). If you have any issues, the system will usually restore to the original image as a last resort.

The 10j kdz version is to be flashed with LG UP if you needed it. but up to now it is better you dont move further from 10j, because 10k is not rootable (i believe I've seen). If you want to have 10k you can flash 10j and then flash via twrp a zip of the stock rom with 10k

Encryption is mostly used for companies as extra security . But if i dont misremember , it is necessary to do it. Best thing would be to follow the instructions provided on the original thread.
T-Mobile LG V2010t
Hey all I new at all this and I'm trying to unlock or root my T-Mobile LG V20. I've never done any of this stuff, but I want to be able to use this phone on a network other than T-Mobile. Can anyone give this rookie ( me) some help?
T-Mobile won't unlock it for me. The day there is a balance owed on it. And when I tried the unlock app. It say failure in processing the request. Please reboot and try again.. If you can walk me through this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Why did you reply to a post from last year for this?
Rooting has nothing to do with network unlocking the phone (and if it's on 10t or really anything past 10k it's unrootable anyway).
Your best option is to get T-MOBILE to unlock it, otherwise there are some other third party websites which may be able to unlock it for a fee.

I literally answered a question, then you followed up by requesting verification on that answer. That's pretty rude dude, if that's how you handle your questions then yeah don't ask please.
But in an effort to help, I wasn't aware of any anti-rollback in place. However, since I personally wanted to try the newest update, I just took the Ota to 15a. Then, using Uppercut, went back to 12a.
If that's your plan, to go back to either 12a or 13a, I'd recommend right after Uppercut completes to do a factory reset as you will likely get overwhelmed with force closes (kdz with uppercut doesn't wipe data). Then after you're on a clean slate 12a or 13a, right away enable airplane mode so your phone doesn't hang trying to download everything. All you're interested in is enabling USB debugging for dirty santa (i assume).
Make sense?

When I ask verified I ment was it in a thread or something didn't know for 100% if you did it or read it and if I'm not mistaken the last update was also bootloader unlockable. I read the forum a lot I ment no disrespect when asking the question. As you can tell I've been a member about as long as you and come to XDA very often. Granted yes Google does work but when i looked in to it about the downgrade all I found was how the verizon V20 has gotten root witch was a old article as we all know. I unlocked mine on version 12. Thank you for your reply it was helpful and now I feel safe enough to do my wife's phone.

i got a off topic question if you dont mind answering here, i been dealing with issues with my v20 since t got out of the box, laggs, crashes, advanced calling no longer works later (idk if i pulled the wrong software or what, and sometimes my 4g drops only on messenger when calling my GF, have you faced any simulare issues like i have. if so how do you fix/deal with them

Thank you for your reply it was helpful and now I feel safe enough to do my wife's phone.

i read your messages here, i know the feeling but i have not faced any liers in XDA, i been on here for years and have my youtube channel to make root videos to help others understand the methods better as i have a hard time reading them my self but enough talk and all i got a better understanding and make videos to help noobs
however i do face smart a$$es with the let me google this for you and knowing that it wont be on the top to what i am looking for, i faced that issue when i got lucky to my on android 5.1.1 on my v10 and some people did not wont to make it easy, it took me a few hours to find to do a 30 min root method
some times you dont need a verified post and do understand about the anti rollback but i dont see anyone lieing to make you purpusly mess up your phone or they can face problems
there are a few people i knew that are no longer on xda cause of issues and xda banned them for it, so you have no worries. if you want me to make a video of downgrading 15A to 13A that is rootable i be glad to take that guys word, credit him on the video and show proof

Yes, I have faced similar issues. But I always fall back on Uppercut. If you're truly stuck then try to wipe everything including internal storage, system, etc. Then do the Uppercut method, that always fixes every issue I've had.
Edit:to be clear, I've had plenty of issues similar to you. However, rather than identify the problem I always just wipe the slate clean. With that said, I suspect a lot of what you're facing and issues I had were kernel related.

If you wanted to troubleshoot what you have now, you could try a different kernel or even stock boot.img would be best. If still no change then always fall back to the full wipe and Uppercut.

I personally use reStock or modStock. Those both have been successful for me.
Check here for the stock boot.img https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/device-kernel-aka-boot-img-s-carrier-t3533426
No need for the shoutout or anything. I'm just passing the info along that might help.

Well my phone got so worse that i could not make a facebook call to my girl. It was always choppy like wtf. So i took your first idea. Wipe the POS, system, cache etc. And uppercut it. Now it runs snappy with 13a with root and restock. I checkout the link when i get home. As for the shoutout its for the help you give me. The devs will get their thanks for making things possible i give this phone another month and see if it works. If it dose with all bs off of it (bloatware) i make a video for those who was asking for it. Thanka for the help you are awesome and i keep you updated how my v20 is. My brothers wife has same issues i do and if my phone works maybe she will let me root hers. Just hope they dont give out a update with anti rollback

Glad you got yours taken care of. Did you do the airplane mode thing? I only bring it up because I flip flop back and forth so many times from stock unroot to root access (I'm indecisive).
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think as long as we have the kdz file, there will always be a way to downgrade. I think the kdz is a total device wide wipe/reinstall regardless of whatever version was on before.

true but i want to know if you dont mind testing new OTA when they come out to see if they can downgrade, if you dont wont to its fine i dont wont to take the chance as the phone has been a POS and hoping the full wipe/ uppercut fixes my issue forever at least, reasion im asking to test is im pretty sure my brothers wife updates her phone and i am trying to get to to let me have the phone so i can fix it and give it back so she can atleast be happy with a phone with no regrets
I have a VS995 I took the OTA 15A updated and I just used LGUP to downgrade back to 12A
Off subject question did you notice your GPS taking forever to find your location on google maps or waze while your VS995 was rooted. I kept having this issue so I went back to full stock and the issue went away.

Reading up on some things, Maybe I could flash it back to stock using LGUP (Not sure if i can do that without usb debugging and dev settings) and hopefully use dirtycow? I have no idea
Phone: LGV20 H918
Android ver: 7

I worded that really weirdly, sorry LOL I mix up my sentences quite a bit
There's plenty of guides online to bypass frp lock. Not sure of the legality of it, but there's quite a lot. I would look around on YouTube first.

Depends on the model. I've heard H910 doesn't have a kdz. If you can find a kdz for the phone, you can use LGUP or something else I've heard called UPPERCUT, which is the same as LGUP but better in some ways... I haven't done any flashing, especially since just unlocking the bootloader on my model is nearly rocket science.

H918 does have some KDZ's but I can't seem to find one for H91810D
This is the closest i've found so far. https://build.nethunter.com/misc/h918/v10d/
I have 0 clue how to flash that at ALL.
There's plenty of guides to flash kdz files. Wish I could help, but like I said, I haven't done it myself. Search around, see if UPPERCUT is better.
