Does the LG G6 have a notification LED ? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hello,
Does anybody know if the LG G6 has a notification LED ? I do know that it has an always-on display, but I still find a notification LED much more useful (different colors can easily be spotted from a distance) and also much easier on battery life, to the point that on my S7 Edge I have the AOD turned off and rely on the notification LED exclusively (I use LightFlow for customization).
From the official pictures I can't see any marking/cutout on top for the notification LED, but hopefully it's just not very visible ?
Thanks !

It seems that the (preliminary) answer is "no", the LG G6 does not have a notification light (same as LG V20)...which is a deal breaker for me. Finally they got the phone size and design right for the first time after the G2, they got the battery size right, but they left off one of the most important features for a business user. I guess LG wasn't LG if they wouldn't screw up somehow...

Can I ask is that any reason or proof why you are that sure ?

it doesnt. *have one right in front of me*

Well that's annoying. I was liking the G6 at first but now I find out there's no notification led which is way better than always-on display, no IR blaster that I use occasionally but has been very convenient when needed, silly regional differences, horrid glass back, and still no word on price

That's heartbreaking, really. Have you looked in the settings menu and the notification LED option is missing ? Some phone have the light hidden in the spearker grille, it may just not be visible physically.
Well...I guess there's always Galaxy S8, just saw a full-size press image leak and on the S8 the notification LED is still there.

Well, that's a shame. I was looking forward to the G6. But that is two strikes against it. Strike one was the lack of a 64 GB model in the states. No notification LED is strike two. I have had a great run with LG starting with the G2 until I passed on the G5. I am just surprised they omitted the LED. I guess they figured with the always on display it was not needed.

Realy? No LED? That is crazy. This has been a feature since forever on android. I really hope the US model has one. I live by it for email.

Wow really? Screw the G6 then. Even the G4 has LEDs

No stereo speakers, no IR blaster.
Does have Qi WIRELESS CHARGING, but no 64GB in U.S. nor DAC.
WHAT is wrong with LG?

They got rid of the IR blaster too? What the hell is wrong with LG?

LG wouldn't be LG if they wouldn't do something wrong With the S8 having so many features (starting with a better processor), the G6 really needed those gimmicks like the IR blaster and notification LED.

And stereo speakers would be great too. I was hoping LG would release a blatant copy of the ZTE AXON 7 -- with Qi wireless charging.
Go google those specs... 1440p AMOLED, 64/128 GB internal storage, DAC, front stereo speakers, etc. Frame designed by BMW!
LG version would be fantastic.

Irritating isn't it.
I really liked the look of the G6. The flat front, the chunky/blocky design with slight curves on the back. From the leaks of the S8 I think I prefer the G6 style, more professional looking. Something about the curved display I don't like.
I'm out, even if it's relatively cheap (which it won't be). I use the IR blaster regularly when travelling and the NLED is a must.

As others have already answered, unfortunately the LG G6 does not have Notification LED iIndicator. It relies on the Always-On Display feature to let you know of any new notifications.

My goodness, the outrage of not having a tiny little light.

This article implies there is a setting to use the flash:
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/140...-get-to-grips-with-the-long-screened-flagship
Can anyone who has on try, I don't know if it will keep flashing for notifications, like the notification LED does?
LED flash notifications: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing and then toggle the “Flash alerts” setting. With this on, the bright camera LED will flash to let you know when you have an incoming message, call or an alarm.

Any videos showing the led notifications in action?

I havent seen any or probably havent searched that hard, but I'm surprised I havent seen any of the reviews I've seen mention this.
Its very similar to the galaxy nexus with a soft glow.
I posted this vid in another thread, but it's the notification led on the Optimus G. You can assume that the led light used on the Optimus G is probably going to be the same one on the Nexus 4, just in a different location.

I really hope it looks like that. That has a resemblance to the Blackberry notification light, which looks a lot less subtle and therefore more likely to capture your attention than the Galaxy nexus.

I'd assume the same thing if they were in the same position, but since (afaik) the 4's led is in the lower part, so there is still a good chance its different. Though of course, its still more likely to be like the G's than like another random led light.
Edit: oops, i was late, and said less
It should looks like this: http://www.mobiletechblog.it/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Nexus4Led.jpg
I guess there is a frame where you can see the led in the first video that Google made for the release.

Just hope it not the same ****ty low quality LED used in the GNex and the GS3. The colors were all muddled and weak.

G3 display manufacturer

Seems like LG uses own LGDisplay matrices as well as 3rd party JDI matrices
The display type can be found by typing these commands in terminal(there are some free apps in play store)
su
dmesg | grep -i panel
You also need to be rooted
Which one your G3 got?
Has it yellowish warm or more blueish cool tint on white?
Is it to dim on 100% auto off, or is it too bright?
Reference to start with
This didn't work for me. The commands work, but it doesn't pull the display manufacturer.

commands must be issued immediately after G3 is rebooted, dmesg is log file which is flooded fast
It's not Sprint vs ATT. It's probably just the production batch.
I bought two G3s from ATT on day -1 back and white. The black one, which is mine definitely has a more warmer tone ( I don't want to say yellow ). So I don't know...
What I did I went to ATT store to take a look and interestingly all the display models have a whiter screen... but when I asked to replace or compare my phone the new one out of the box had the exact warmer tint...
OK, I have an LGD one. Which one is supposed to be better?
O also have LGD on V10a-EUR-XX firmware.

That's the point of my poll, if we'll find out that G3 don't use panels from 3rd manufacturers, then we'll know that different screens are just batch or calibration and NOT manufacturer related
The G2 is the same, lgd or jdi screens. Appearance-wise, there wasn't much differentiation though. But it did create a mess with custom kernels because the panel drivers are a little different and no one even suspected that they weren't all LG made.

Wish I could check mine (no root yet), but I bought two from Sprint and their screens differ just like in your Sprint/Att video.
I have the LG panel, and I haven't noticed a cast or tint. But one usually wouldn't, without a properly calibrated monitor to compare it to. Our brains adjust for bad color just fine, which is why we need hardware calibrators in digital photography.
I have the LG panel. I assume that's the superior one and LG uses the JDI one just because they can't produce theirs fast enough.
I have the Sprint variant. Not blue, but definitely not warm/yellow. Also, it is BRIGHT at 100%. Bright enough to almost start washing out the colors.

I have the LG display. Verizon variant. Very bright at 100%. I keep it at 60% which is plenty strong for me (with auto turned on). Cool colors, nothing indicating of yellow.

No, I've read many times that some G2 screen are yellowish, too, and some has more blueish whites. But I thought that instead of Nexus 5 which almost all items got JDI panels, G2 in contrary all had LG panels until I've read that G2 too sometimes got JDI. So I thought maybe even G3 has panels from different makers
And drivers, you mean custom home baked kernels?

Ambient light sensors don't emit infra red or any light. When you see flashing lights via a camera from a device, it is the proximity sensor which flashes infra red, which gets reflected back when the device is close to the face.
The Nexus 9 has no proximity sensor, and so doesn't emit pulses of infra red.
The LED could be an infra red LED for lighting up our faces in the dark for face unlocking perhaps, although it wouldn't be a yellow component as shown in the iFixIt tear down.
The video looks like a white flashing LED.

Phil

There IS a notification light, but that's not it.
The notification light on the Nexus 9 is on the metal trim on the right side of the top speaker.
However, the real notification light doesn't work for notifications either.

Wrong. That black piece of plastic in the aluminium frame (white N9) is just that: plastic. Most probably to absorb shock or temperature-related changes of the frame.
Here are iFixIt's photos of the PCB in that area:
FRONT
BACK
As you can clearly see (or NOT see): There's nothing there.
However, on the other side of the device - what can be seen in the top post, there's something:
See that little yellow thingy above the USB port? Looks like this:

No, that's incorrect. The LED notification light is on the metal rim to the right of the top speaker. This is not an intenna. This is not a proximity sensor. It is the LED notification light.
The video shows infrared light that we can't see directly. Assuming that is infrared, that is related to proximity sensing.
Why are you guys telling me I'm wrong, and just guessing? I'm not uncertain about what it is. LOL... I'm telling you, not asking you, what it is. Stop making things up.

I have seen this discussed somewhere on these forums. From what I recall,
1) The LED is a single colour - white
2) For those who've got it to come on for notifications, so far it is "solid on" only - no blinking/flashing.
I know we have Moto Display, but you still have to be very near the phone to get that to work.
At the moment, my phone is on a worktop just a few feet away from me. With my Xperia Z2 I would have been able to look over and see a blue flashing light for notifications. Not so with the Moto.
When I bought this phone, it just didn't occur to me that, in 2015, a manufacturer would make a "smart"phone without a notification LED as standard

I agree 100%. This is something that let me down about the phone once I received it. Otherwise I'm thoroughly impressed and happy with it. Moto Display isn't that great and Ambient Display is unable to utilize 3 of the Moto Sensors or low-power whatsamacallits and has a hard time with pick-up / proximity wake as well.

Moto LED Enabler by Ton Souza is a free bare bones app that appears to have been overlooked. Like some of the other apps mentioned, it turns on a solid LED upon notification from a white-listed app. The only requirement is that your phone is ROOTED. Although there were a few hiccups in configuring the notification white-list, it does do the job and I am happy with it overall.
There are a couple of other alternatives which do not require root, and control the front facing LED camera flash (including blinking). These include Flash Alerts 2 and J7Beta.

Is anyone else as happy with their Pure as I am?

Granted I've only had it for a week now, but I'm pretty happy with it overall. I've unlocked and rooted it and installed Xposed, frozen what I don't need with Titanium Backup, and I'm using the latest version of CameraFX instead of the (seems to me) kind of primitive camera software provided. The battery life seems great, at least it is compared to my last phone (galaxy s5). I've enabled adaptive brightness, turned off Bluetooth and NFC. I don't have battery saver on. Comments from other owners?
I like mine very much. Keeping it stock at the moment, wanting to see what Motorola's official 6.0.1 does for it (if we ever see it). Down the line I will likely root and tweak the thermal-engine config file, that has been my only complaint so far...
Not really. On top of slow updates, I'm getting blue spots near the bottom of my display, and don't want to risk their warranty program due to people being delayed a replacement. I just hope the spots won't become even more prominent before the next Nexus releases, which I will be going back to.
This is not my post, but see some photos here for what I am talking about with the spots: https://reddit.com/r/MotoX/comments/4gf3lj/has_anyone_had_this_kind_of_effect_on_their/
Yes...Until I shattered my screen the other day

I get killer battery life, but I do a billion things to get there. I'm very happy with mine, had it almost since release. Since Lenovo took over Moto, I'm skeptical about the update rate. I had an original Moto X (the only phone made in the USA) before this one, and the updates were on par with Nexus updates. So things have changed.

Funny you mention this. I noticed a small red dot in the middle of my screen (only in the dark) while in bootloader mode testing my last firmwares. Thought it was something with my screen protector. I haven't pulled mine off to check if it is the protector or not. I too am holding back because of the time it has taken for others repairs/replacements to come back. Even though I spent all that extra money on the warranty.

Running 6.0.1 here and no dots on the screen, only a small light bleed on the bottom left.

Although happy with moto x pure. Good chance I will opt for oneplus3 in coming months.. Pure requires extensive modification to ensure best optimal performance n battery life. And in development, it's definitely on the slow side. Price was alright for the phone given this phone is identical to LG V10. I am having call quality issue but dealt with it. But another reason I will be jumping ship.

I like the phone, only one thing is holding me back from loving it. My hotspot(straight talk AT&T) dosent work like it did with my nesus 5. wish motorola would bypassed the network check for this after all it is an unlock phone.
Honestly I love the phone. Sure, battery could be better, but it gets me a full day while I'm at work. So there's that which is nice.

Agree... it give me way beyond a days worth ( I havent turned on the Moto features out of fear that it would drain my battery.)
I don't have moto features enabled either. Totally stock too. Sure, there's a very few minor bugs I have. Like sometimes opening a text doesn't load and I just have to back out and go back in...but that's about the only bug I have encountered with the device.
I mean I gave up my note 4 for it. That should say something about it right?
I am loving it. Compared to LG and Samsung, I have experienced very little lag and love the fact that Motorola didn't load it down with bloat.

My wife's current device is an LG G4, and her last was a S5. Too many problems with them both. And the G4 is on par with the Moto hardware wise, but it aside from that it doesn't compare.
I like it. Only things I don't like are
- non-AMOLED screen (kinda kills the purpose of the motodisplay
- no fingerprint scanner (although it's not a big issue)
- no camera 2.0 natively supported (can be modded in though)
- moto voice doesn't work where I live, which is all the more ridiculous that while Google's Voice allows me to use in english even though my main isn't, Moto Voice won't
- no ability to use the "Ok Google" phrase to wake my phone - kinda defeats the purpose of the voice control if I still have to wake the phone manually
- not much ROM development is going on for the phone and the custom roms can't make use of the IR sensors
I was tossing it up between getting a Moto X Style, Nexus 5x or LG G4 and came down on the side of the Moto X Style. Nice phone, just about the right size, and I actually like the Motorola stuff included in the rom. Charges in the blink of an eye, which is pretty sweet.
Custom Rom support is never going to be as good as a Nexus device, however, we have a fair few to choose from and the major players appear to support the device quite well. The main area of development that this device seems to be lacking is with Kernel support. I can see that there are a couple available, however, it's always nice to have a wide selection.
I must admit I'm falling out of love with my Moto X Style more everyday.
Seems so slow. Slower then my OPO. And downloading some files direct the SD card makes the phone unusable have to turn the phone off. Might have to try return to stock and sell it on.
