Email addresses hanging around after deletion in Email program and Contact list - Galaxy Grand Prime Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use Yahoo email. When I enter an email address the Samsung (Galaxy Prime) appears to remember it to make it easier for entry next time; makes sense.
So, I've entered a few wrong email addresses and they have been remembered.
Now when I do an email entry I may get 6 choices when only 2 are valid.
So I was thinking, get rid of the invalid 4.
I can't.
The email application does not seem to have them.
The contact list does not have them.
Is there some Samsung memory I can find them in and delete them as I don't want to delete all the valid email addresses that are remembered by the Samsung.

Outlook E-mail POP3 Setup - Name already assigned problem

Hello,
I seem to be having a problem with the built in email client on my XDA Exec. Every so often the built in Outlook Mail Client seems to "loose" my POP 3 account. However when I try to add it back in it tells me that:
"That name is already assigned to another account. Enter a unique name and try again"
Now I could keep adding it back in with a different name each time but that is a pants solution. Any thoughts as to how I can permanently fix this issue?
I have trawled through the registry but cannot find within it the name I used when I created the POP3 account.
[I have also noticed that it seems to loose the registration information for SunnySoft Back up as well!]
Many thanks
Change name POP3 in account configuration step 1 or 2 to another like mail1, mail 2. You have to use different names for settings

if only it was that simple. The original entry is no longer visible! So I cannot change it. And I cannot see it in the registry to delete it either. Any idea where does Pocket Outlook store its config information?
No i don't know
losing email accounts
Did you ever see "No GSM" when soft reset? Then get your machine replaced. Check my postings.

Sending Email to Distribution Lists

Hello fellow users
Is there something like email to "Distribution List" or "Category" that I've assigned a whole bunch of Contacts to??
I have been using my T-Mobile MDA VARIO for several months now but still can't workout if there is a way to simply email using a POP3 email account to more than one recipient.
:?:Are POP3 Email Distribution Lists possible?
thanks for your wise words,

Interesting...I didn't realize the feature was missing until you pointed it out.
Here's a temporary workaround (don't have much time to sit and search for a freeware addon):
1. Create a new contact named as the group name you'd like to use (say "Development Team")
2. Enter all the e-mail addresses for your distribution list within the "e-mail" tag of this new contact, placing a semicolon ( ; ) between all addresses.
3. When you go to create a new email, enter the group name you just created and the email field should automatically fill with all the addressees (I tried with two, there may be a limitation)
glhs509,
Thanks for the TIP.
I've found there is a limit at 247 characters which works out at 6 - 7 email address' for me so not much scope for large distributions.
For more than 247 characters I've ...
1) on my PC created a temporary email to the distribution list
2) Expanded the name to show all email address
3) Copied into notes section of a new contact.
4) on my PPC I can sink the new contact and it just takes a copy and paste of the contact notes into a new email 'To' box.
Not great but a lot better than adding one at a time. So thanks
I would really like to sync my contacts with the distributions in outlook on my PC so if anyone knows how to, please fill us in 

Gmail POP’ped to desktop and IMAP’ped to Wizard?

I would like to read my gmail email in MS Outlook on my computer, and while I am away from it, read the new only emails (the ones not yet downloaded to desktop) from my T-mobile MDA.
The way I understand it is done is to POP emails to desktop (which deletes them from the email server) and use IMAP on the mobile device to read whatever is not POPped yet. The problem is that Google’s Gmail does not support IMAP protocol. So how do I do this then, other than to change to an email provider who supports both POP and IMAP?
In gmail's POP service you can choose to either delete or archive email d/l by your device. You could read ur email from your pda then the email you just read would be archived into another folder.
I think what you need to do is change the settings in MS Outlook on your desktop to leave a copy of the email on the server for x number of days. On your PDA change the imap server settings to only download the last x number of messages or messages that were received in the last x number of days. I don't use a POP server anymore but you should be able to use the "tools" then "email accounts" then "view or change exisiting email accounts" and look for something along the lines of leave copy/copies of email on the server so that way Outlook doesn't delete them from the server.... In terms of the POP settings on the PDA make sure that it is never deleting emails off the server otherwise you are going to be faced with "dissapearing" email messages.
Hopefully this helps or someone else can be more helpful.
go to your gmail account, in the settings you can set it to be accessable through POP, do that. Dont forget to set it to leave a copy on the server
On your PDA you need to configure Outlook to accept the gmail accout.
go Start > Programs > Messaging
at bottom of screen choose Accounts
click New
enter email address click next
enter Your Name, User name, Password ( I leave the save password box ticked as I am idle ) click next
choose account type POP3
choose Name POP3 (unless you have option to choose another name you like better) click next
in server information
set Incoming as pop.gmail.com
set Outgoing as smtp.gmail.com
click the options button, page 2 of 3 check Outgoing requires server auth , check box Require SSL
click next
box now shows all Accounts as New, Text Message, POP3
click the OK top right of screen
thats it, done.

...and hence not downloaded to the desktop if I understand correctly.

Gmail does not support IMAP unfortunately. Also, I do not want to go by the number of days or number of messages because those things are not known in advance. I only want to pop email to my computer, and read whatever is not popped to the computer from the mobile device.
tbc_borg, the instructions are helpful if I only wanted to read email from the road. But after email is downloaded to the device, Gmail does not pop it to the desktop, which is not good for me.
I think I found how to do this.
I got another gmail address, set up forwarding of everything from the main email to the second one (with the original left in the main Inbox). I pop everything from the main email to the desktop and from the second email address to the Wizard. I will be receiving duplicate emails to both desktop and the mobile device, but that is better than having only half of emails on the desktop. Any better ideas? I searched extensively, found nothing smarter (well, again, other than finding an email provider that supports both pop and imap protocols).
I had the same problem. What I did was open a second relay a/c, eg [email protected]. I then added a forward on all mails from my normal gmail account to the relay account. On my phone I have my incoming mail server set to the relay account but my outgoing server set to my normal account. This means that all your mails will be forwarded to the relay account and when you want to reply to any of them on the phone it will send them from your normal account!
Bit of a roundabout way of doing things but works fine!
WOW, good hint with the different outgoing server, decmac! It works just as expected!
But I noticed something else that is wrong. I send a test email to my main email address, it gets forwarded to the relay email address. Send/receive from computer, receive the email fine. Send/receive from Wizard, receive it fine as well. So far so good. However, when I send/receive from the Wizard again, the email message that has just been downloaded gets DELETED and is nowhere to be found on the device (not even in "Deleted Items" folder.) I wonder what I have missed in the settings somewhere.
Yeah, that's a problem. It seems to only keep a current copy of your Gmail inbox on the phone so when you do send/receive it overwrites everything. What I have done to get around this is select "Get Message headers only" and select "Include x Kb of message body" Make x big enough to get all of your messages. It then keeps my messages in my inbox until I either delete it or select "Get entire message and any attachments" in the email message.
Not sure if this would work but maybe move messages into a local folder on the phone. Haven't tried this but in theory it should work! The above works perfect for me!
Perfect! It works!
Vielen Dank!
Kein Problem

[Q] Contacts limitations on WinMo?

OK, I admit I am new to WinMo and the X2 but there is something with Contacts that I do not understand.
1. Why is it that only one work and one private email address per contact are possible? I am currently syncing with the Mac addressbook using The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile and several contacts have two work and two private email addresses. The funny thing is that only one of those work and one of the private email addresses are actually transferred to the X2. Is there a limitation with the WinMo Contacts in this respect?
2. More problematically, when I make a new email and wish to add a contact on the X2, a name and email are suggested while I am typing the name. So far so good. But, why is it that only one email address is suggested automatically for a person, even if there are two email addresses assigned to the contact in the phone addressbook? How can one alternate between those email addresses when typing a mail? So far, I have found no way but maybe I am missing something basic here.
As a point of comparison, both these issues do not happen with the Motorola Milestone under Android. I can have several work and private email addresses per person, and when I type a new email message, choice is given between all the email addresses of a given contact.
Thanks for help!
This issue is driving me nuts.
Is there nobody using the standard WinMo addresbook?
It's bill gates who says that people do not have more than one e-mail address (or mobile-phone numbers for SMS). One should be enough..
YEs, it's a stupid limitation of winmo that i can't understand why it's in this way..
Any other mobilephone-platform i have used works in the way you suggest..

[Q] Where do I find the email address history in Windows Mobile 6.5?

My email retains the email addresses of ALL of the emails that I've sent or received. This includes those not in my contact list. When I start a new email they appear whenever I type the first letter in the "To" or "cc" fields. How can I delete these? Does anyone know the name of the file where they are stored? Thanks.
Fixed it.
I still haven't found where it's pulling the email address history from, but it can be turned of with the following registry edit.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Inbox\RecipientAutocomplete]
"MaxSuggestions"=dword:0
Mine was set to 4. After changing it to 0, presto-chango! No more email address autocomplete frustration.
