Root S7 helio x25 - Elephone S7 Questions & Answers

is it possible to root this version?

Yes, just follow the same steps as with the x20 version and it'll root. I just got my x25 version yesterday and have it rooted.
Note, I did have to flash the recovery image four or five times till it stuck and was able to boot into TWRP, but it got there and I've now got root, AdAway and ROM Toolbox Pro up and running.

Working on my X25 just received. Have lost count of the number of times I have tried to get TWRP to stick. Flashtools always shows 100% on the red loading bar and then "success" but only have stock recovery. I have re-downloaded TWRP zip. I am having trouble getting to recovery using power/vol up so using ADB to reboot recovery but TWRP should replace stock ? Can you give me any suggestions since you mention that it took you four or five times to succeed (or help from anyone will be greatly appreciated).

Use home button + power to reboot to recovery. You'll get a little menu, click the home button till the arrow points to recovery, then hit Vol Down to select. If TWRP finally stuck it'll come up, else you'll have stock recovery. It was frustrating to figure that part out, and once I did it still took a couple attempts to make TWRP stick, but it can work if you keep at it.

Thanks for the encouragement. I did finally get it to stick. First time it went to bootloop so had to flash stock ROM and start over. Pretty much a full day job. I did catch on to the unusual button combination to get to recovery. Like you, hard to live without root once used to it.

Don't know if this is a fact or if it makes flashing TWRP easier but found this on the Elephone "bugs" forum
"Before using the SPFlash Tool you need to unlock the bootloader with the adb command "fastboot oem unlock" and press the volume + button. After this, they can use the SPFlash Tool normally to be able to flash a ROM or only recovery. ".
Seems to be a possibility for next time.

Awesome, that oughta help with any future OTA updates. And glad ta see ya got it working. Nothing quite like having proper control of one's device.

Are you assuming that TWRP flashed successfully because you got a green check mark in SPflashtools ? I struggled with the same thing and boot problem. I suggest you flash a stock ROM. Put superSU on the SD card, if you have one, so it is ready to go. When you have the boot problem solved go to developer options and unlock the boot loader. Flash TWRP again. Remember that the home/fingerprint button acts as volume up on this phone. This worked for me after many hours of "successful" messages in SPflashtools. I believe unlocking the bootloader is the key to real success otherwise boot gets corrupted.

It will wipe apps, pictures, music video, basically a factory reset but you will not be stuck at boot logo. If you want the latest OTA (not much of use in it as far as I can tell) make sure to do that before you start the TWRP and root process but you can bring the phone back with the February stock ROM (in a different thread in this forum) and flashtools.

2) Download Flashify app from Google Play Store.
3) Open Flashify app.
4) Grant root permissions.
5) Click "Recovery image" and then click "Choose a file"
6) Navigate to the folder where you placed TWRP 3.0.0-0 and choose the .IMG file.
7) Press "Yup!" button and wait.
8) After a while the phone will require reboot. So click "reboot" button.
9) Phone will reboot and automatically boot into TWRP, so you can press reboot to system.
10) Enjoy!
Special thanks to Oneb1t for modded .fstab file! :highfive:
edit: you can use Flashfire app too instead of Flashify, but it's not recommended, because the latest version of the Flashfire app is not flashing properly.
Brilliant! Thank you so much! Do you know any custom ROM what is better than the factory ROM?
There is no custom ROM for this phone yet.
But I'm trying to make LITE ROM.

Do you think it's easier/possible to adapt a ROM from a similar device like say, the Alcatel
Pop 2 (5) Premium ? I don't know if there's any ROM for that phone tho, but since it's branded as Alcatel you might get more support from the community here than by using Vodafone's name.
Hello, Demonlord6.
I have tried to make a stock flashable ROM via dumping the system folder and the boot.img file, but without success.
It does not boot properly.. when I tried to flash it without dalvik/system wipe everything was as before.
When I tried to wipe /system and dalvik first and then flash the ROM, it causes bootloop.
So now I'm trying to fix this issue..
I don't know where the problem is.
So when this issue will be solved I will try to build a ROM from Alcatel phones with same specs.

Hey, Andreno306
I don't know much about Rom's in that level of expertise I'm afraid :/ but I did some digging and came across this simple tutorial on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387941
I imagine it does not work for every single device out there, at least not with modifying stuff after, but it might be a good starting point I think, in fact I would try to actually make one myself had I a working PC currently at home. But even if I did I had no way of testing it because this is currently my daily driver phone.
Just wanted to say that I'm also very interested in getting a slim ROM for this device. I can't offer any expertise I'm afraid! Just wanted to show that there are people interested in your project.

I have one
https://mega.nz/#!tMJD3B4T!f6m2ELYCVupqGCcN2aGbkrNzEqijLu7au-7usEfeVL0
But I recommend to restore it with the flashify app, because that's how the backup was made.
If, for some reason, you don't/can't restore it, then you can always try Sugar on the PC which basically restores everything to factory settings (recovery, kernel, etc, it all gets reset)

Sorry for the stupid question but... does it works on Smart Prime 7 too?
Has anyone installed that linked ROM? It seems to be what we are looking for... a slim debloated rom.
I presume we need to be rooted, install this TWRP, then flash that ROM?
It mentions unlocking the bootloader, I dont think I've seen any info anywhere about unlocking the bootloader.
Can anyone give a quick lowdown on all the steps required to install that ROM please?
Hi everyone, I discovered that Elephone Trunk and Smart Prime 6 have (almost) identical specs: https://www.devicespecifications.com...ison/c584481c6
So it would be great to "port" (or build ?) the official Nougat-OmniROM for Trunk to VF-895N: http://dl.omnirom.org/trunk/
Last but not least, here's official Vodafone Smart Prime 6 sources: Vodafone_Smart_prime_6_20150413.tar.xz
TWRP for vodafone smart max 4 990N (coolpad 8890u).
I tried this recovery image for vodafone smart max 4 990N (coolpad 8890u).
The phone is in a bootloop state. I think i have usb debugging enabled already.
So, in fastboot mode i can see the device in my pc in adb fastboot cmd.
Im trying to ''fastboot boot recovery.img" but it stops in ''booting..''.
Dont know whats the problem but for sure i can not find a specific twrp image for this device.
If i enter fastboot oem device-info it says ''(bootloader) Device unlocked: true''.
Any ideas ?
hi i was wondering if you could share how you did this or if you can make one for the Vodafone smart n9 (VFD720) it would help a lot of people out looking for this
Needed to root a Vodafone Smart Prime 6 (VF 895N) (got it from a friend because it became unresponsive from all the updated google play stuff ) to get linux-deploy running. Just wanted to leave a big thank you here for Adreno306 for his TRWP 3.0.0-0. it did the job very well!
Only the procedure to get it installed differed quite a bit for me, since Flashify is no longer available.
I wanted to preserve boot and just flash trwp to recover, what worked quite well.
The first thing I did was to boot the phone manually in recovery mode (Power+Vol up) and reset it to factory settings from there. It takes a little while. Then follow the setup, go to phone settings, enable developer mode and set usb debugging. If "unlock oem" is not available there, reboot into recovery again, set unlock there and reboot into bootloader.
The prerequisites are adb and fastboot, both must work. Means adb devices and fastboot devices must show the phone. What can make problems under win10 as it sometimes does not detect the phone in bootloader mode. An actual google usb driver is needed, as provided by google.
For me adb worked well, but when rebooted into bootloader with adb reboot bootloader, fastboot didnt detect the phone. With the phone still connected, the windows device manager showed an unknown device with and exclamation mark (!). Right click, install driver, select driver manually, select driver from device list, mark all devices (first entry) and click "disk", then point to the usb driver director and select "ADB fastboot driver". ( A more comprehensive description is available here )
Once adb and fastboot detect the device, it is time to prepare it. Boot to system (normal operation) first. Make sure that the TRWP 3.0.0-0.img is renamed to trwp.img and then
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot boot trwp.img
Now the phone should show the trwp menu, set it up to root the phone and install SuperSU. Reboot into bootloader and
fastboot flash recovery trwp.img
fastboot reboot
Verify with adb reboot recovery, you should see trwp now. Reboot to system.
Now finally go into the app selector, start SuperSU, and root the phone. SuperSu uses trwp recovery mode to install its image and root is done.
Again, big thanks for providing the TRWP image!

I don't understand "non add files"
How to root:
Download Odin here!
Download TWRP here for Note4 model trlte!
Download SuperSU zip files here!
Use Pc to install Odin and use Odin to install TWRP.
Then copy Supersu to phones SD card. And use TWRP to install it.
All done!
Use Google or search XDA. There are multiple links that show how to use with more detail.

CF-Auto-ROOT, Odin success but phone appears to be unrooted.

Forewarning, I'm super novice at phones but am pretty good with computers (can program and such).
I recently tried to root my phone using CF-Auto-Root, I used odin and all appeared to be a success, I unplugged the phone from the pc and it went through a black screen white writing and a red android logo and did a few other things.
once rebooted there was an unusual blue screen and my phone came up with a message saying something wasn't recognised and I had to wipe all data and reset to factory.
once all this was done, my phone is showing as unrooted by SuperSU and Root Checker and I am now receiving a security notice about unauthorised actions.
I have since "installed"(please advise me of a better word) TWRP and used no-Verity-opt.... but when installing Magisk I get an Error 1
I am not sure where to go from here. Please help/advise or tell me my post is in the wrong spot.:good:

ONLY WORKS WHEN YOU HAVE TWRP INSTALLED (which you obviously have):
Either you download a recovery flashable SuperSu from here or a recovery flashable Magisk from here directly to your device.
Than you just boot to recovery(hold down volume up, bixby and power buttons while turned off) go to "Install" in TWRP and search for the file you just downloaded (usually /sdcard/Downloads/ or something) just wait till the flash process is done and reboot.

During the flash process using the flashable Magisk I get an error:
"Updater process ended with ERROR: 1
Error installing zip file '/sdcard/download/Magisk-v16.0.zip' "
This is where I'm stuck, I don't how how to solve this error.
it says above the error
! boot image patched by other programs ' Referring to CF-Auto-Root which didn't work
So I guess my question is how do I restore my stock boot image after using CF in order to flash Magisk instead.

AFAIK you have two options now:
Flash stock TouchWiz (plenty of tutorials on the forum) and install twrp afterwards, then install Magisk via TWRP
Flash custom rom like Renovate ICE or any other from the forum directly via TWRP. I believe all of them are (at least have the option to) pre-rooted with either Magisk or SuperSu
As your SuperSu doesn't recognize your root you can't unroot with it and (someone please correct me if im wrong) not even a full wipe does unroot/does anything with boot.img

Thanks, I was going to custom ROM eventually anyway so I may as well bite the bullet, and Renovate ICE seems to be the best out there, thanks for the advice.
I think you are right, it was my thought that because I used CF-Auto-ROOT no backup of the original/stock Boot.img was ever created giving me no point of return. god knows what actually went wrong with the root. I shouldn't have been lazy and avoided the TWRP step in the first place.
Again, thanks for the help, I am Downloading Renovate ICE now, only 1.5 hours to go, yay Australian internet.

Root Failure on my C9 Pro in Android 8.0.0 Oreo

Hi guys. This is my first post on XDA.
Now I've got C9 Pro, and hours ago I just got it flashed with the latest Android 8.0.0 ROM, version: C9000ZHU1CRG9.
Also I managed to flash TWRP. Then I started doing the Root things with TWRP, as I had done on Android 7.1.1.
However, I did get issue while doing the Root on Android 8.0 --
Actually the SuperSU was flashed successfully, but after this, the phone kept restarting, failing to enter the OS.
I am definitely sure I did the Root with the right steps.
Also I tried different versions of SuperSU, still the issue existed.
Then I flashed Magisk instead, no use.
I even used other versions of TWRP, still no use!
......
Finally, I quitted, flashing the former Android 7.1.1 ROM.
I can't use a phone without Root, but I really want to experience Android 8.0.0.
Can someone offer me any solution?
Thanks a lot in advance!

try the latest 3.2.3 and tell if it worked
I suggest to flash a clean oreo via odin then flash the latest twrp from @travis82 then do format data and wipe cache and data from twrp recovery
then install the latest magisk

You know what, I already tried TWRP 3.2.3, but failed!:crying:
I have tried almost every combination ended up getting bootloop always except when I tried these;
1. Install stock firmware and csc (not home csc this will fully wipe the phone)
2. After finishing it enters to recovery and updates the system. Keep hold of pressing the volume down+home key to enter to download mode as soon as it finishes installing system update.
3. install twrp from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903985796 (original thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/c9-pro/development/twrp-c9ltechn-t3646970 sometimes links can be dead. In that case you can find new link from that thread).
4. Keep holding of pressing Volume Up+Home key while installing twrp to boot into recovery as soon as the phone reboots.
5. While in recovery flash this SuperSU https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4164510&d=1496008012 (Located in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4164510&d=1496008012 as "*** Xperia users, and others experiencing bootloops ***

Your phone should boot normally to setup screen.
After You finish setup you should see supersu icon and your phone should be rooted.
I haven't tested but if your phone is in working condition right now you can try from step 3 to not lose your data.
Good Luck -
Thanks for your method. I think I made it finally!

3. install twrp from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903985796 (original thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/c9-pro/development/twrp-c9ltechn-t3646970 sometimes links can be dead.
Please use this version instead: "
Your phone should boot normally to setup screen.
After You finish setup you should see supersu icon and your phone should be rooted.
I haven't tested but if your phone is in working condition right now you can try from step 3 to not lose your data.

There is, however, one problem with the given TWRP:
Before flashing SuperSU, I did format, or exactly, mount /data.
But when the phone was rebooted again, /data resumed unmounted, resulting in failure in flashing other ZIPs (It said "unable to mount /system").
Then I got the phone rebooted, the terrible bootloop occurred again!
That is to say, we have to flash all ZIPs in one time after mounting /data without rebooting the phone, but sometimes this is not possible.
Now my phone has gone back again to Android 7.1.1, and I think I have to wait for an official TWRP that supports Android 8.0 thoroughly on C9 Pro!

I tried your guide & used Magisk v17.2 instead of SuperSU at step 5 & successfully resolved the bootloop problem, but I did encounter the problem of data not mounting even after flashing ashyx_dm-verity zip:

2 days ago I flashed again the Android 8.0 ROM into my C9 Pro with Root successfully, through which I found the actual problem:
The given TWRP only supports the specific SuperSU zip, and while I flash other zip files, the bootloop occurs again. That's why I surrender flashing Xposed zip.

Well done
I can confirm that I have enabled mounting data partition in TWRP after using your mentioned Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_09.02.2018 zip file, Although I haven't followed your steps exactly
I have mentioned my steps in earlier reply.
Thanks

Thanks first.
Well, I do have a question: can I flash other zip files, like Xposed, with your given TWRP without phone bootloop?
Thanks!
New thread with root guide on oreo (8.0) step by step with required files would be appreciable.

Last night I tried this again following the steps, and finally the flash of Xposed and other 3rd-party zip were successfully!
Only one problem: an app named "Toggle Data" could not be run properly.
Again, thanks a lot!
How to do, C9 Pro with Root successfully?

P8Lite stuck on huawei logo - had access to TWRP

Hello, it is my first post on this forum and it of course has to be problem. I am not expert in mobile phone hacking/flashing and this issue is too big for me to handle.
So like 6 hours ago i had working p8lite L21 with official android 6.0 and locked bootloader. I really wanted install costum rom due to performance issue, so i downgrade it back to 5.0 lolipop, than I root it with kingroot and successful extract key and unlock it using this tutorial: https://forum.xda-developers.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=4627
Than I flash recovery and install TWRP 3.0.2-0 and it all just worked. I was so happy that i manage to pull this off and I forgot that now i have EMUI 3.1 (ALE-L21C432B170) and i flashed phone with this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-p8-lite-t3824247
Of course it bricked because I missed that part with special version of TWRP. After that i tried to install something older just to get phone to work again:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/development/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-ale-l21-t3708835
And surprise, surprise, it did not work either and now I am stuck with huawei boot logo.
I did some research how to fix this issue, but i found so many different problems and solutions, I thought that at this point I really should ask for help because I just have no idea what i am doing now At this stage, can i just flash some costum rom (idc what exactly, just wanna to be lightweight) or i have to somehow restore original firmware? And if so how to do it? As i mentioned, i had access to TWRP.
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.
can someone help me with unbricking this phone? ?
@edit ok nevermind, i thought that this phone is cheap anyways so why not risk and just flashed boot/recovery/system from stock rom with fastboot. I did it and it works again, i needed just this simple hint to do it but i guess p8lite forum is dead.

Yea, i had access to twrp and fastboot. I already fixed it by flashing stock rom with fastboot. But maybe you can help me with other issue, currently i have android 5.0.1 emui 3.1 build c432b170 and i wanna install this rom:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-p8-lite-t3824247
as i understand i need to have android 7.0 with emui 4.1, install costum twrp and than flash this rom. But how to update this phone to android 7.0? When i check for updates it says that there is nothing to update

I believe I can help you... Check the First Comment of that post... you'll see two additional firmwares... Only those firmwares have EMUI 4.1... b896 is for dual sim and b895 is for single sim... use any of those as per your requirements... after that download the LineageOS firmware and then proceed as per the Thread's recommended way... Also, before installing LineageOS, make sure you don't have any lockscreen lock...
feel free to ask if you have any more questions...
PS: i may reply bit late... maybe an hour, 5 hours or even days... but will try to check frequently..

So yea, i noticed those two softwares, i have two imei number so i picked b896 version for dual sim, but when i extract it and place in dload folder and try to update it via holding power button + -, i get software installation failed message. So I am not rly sure how to install this firmware, do i have to extract update.app and flash recovery/boot/system with fastboot, or i need to install it using some twrp? I look for guide but everyone are using this powerbutt + - methode to do this

Do you mean Vol +, Vol - and Power Button by powerbutton +- ? That's one way of flashing it, if you get error by that method, try it once again. If it doesn't work at all, then yes extract the update.app and go for the hard way...

Which one are you trying to flash??? b896?? or simply LineageOS??
If it's b896, then I did read that it can only be flashed on ALE-L21C02xxx, but i am unsure about it... I did installed LineageOS and Resurrection Remix back in the days but I don't think I ever used C02 ROM for B896...
Also if you have the latest TWRP, you can simply flash with it... Try it...
Here's the link for tutorial
