Cricket Wireless - Is the network down (maybe) ? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't had service to my nexus 6p for almost three weeks, but I was able to pay for re-establishing service sometime around 1:28am on a whim that I might of got paid. This is when the problems started...LTE kept coming in and out very rapidly, I rebooted twice - did not work, so I figured maybe something was corrupt so I fastbooted N4F26J, N4F26O, NBD91K....26J-260 kept bootlooping. It went past the google animation screen, so I know I wasn't getting the BLOD I've heard everyone mentioning. Right now my phone is working, but I remembered I had saved NRD91U from that one time I decided to use Squabbi's Toolkit. I am now successfully booting, but now data is not working - just like before. I checked online to see if maybe Cricket had a network down issue and a lot of reports were coming in that people were having issues. I'm checking to see if a radio - mobile data issue could ever cause me so many issues. I think ill wait until the morning to figure out what the hell is going on, but I seriously doubt it's an issue with the phone as much as it is an issue with Cricket's network. Let me know if any you other cricket users have had issues too.

You're running a really old build. I'm a Cricket customer and my phone is working fine. Does your phone boot loop when you try flashing the latest build? Are you flashing the full stock image or trying to flash OTAs?

I have cricket I'm on the latest 8.0 and have major connectivity issues I lose signal and have to reboot constantly. As well. IDK what to do anymore

I will test this out it's working right now but I'm in hspa. It can't be the network cuz my S7 edge is sitting side by side and I have LTE with about 8gb down and the Nexus is pulling under 1gb on hspa. I'm getting frustrated. Gonna try a TMobile sim tomorrow and see if it performs different

For free? Not really. Get a phone that will tether without checking entitlement. If you want to pay all you need is to borrow a cricket branded phone that supports tethering, put your SIM card in it, turn the phone on and let it register, add the tethering feature to your line, then put the SIM back into your regular phone. It will continue to work as long as you don't make any changes to your account. I don't know why they only allow you to sign up with certain phones, I guess it saves them on troubleshooting costs.

So I ended up ditching my 6p and got a Pixel XL. It was fun but I kept having connection issues and have zero issues with the pixel so far and I've been using it now for 3 days . Same areas I'd get drop in connection and data service my pixel is still blazing fast.

T-Mobile S7 Edge speedtest is very slow, compared to the LGV10

So, like many of you, I got my S7 Edge yesterday afternoon from the pre-order. I previously had a LG V10, and I could regularly get better than 100mbps down with the speedtest.net app, on my home tower (as well as many other towers). I saw 135x40 several times on that phone (Band 4 tower, obviously). Since getting the S7 Edge, I haven't been able to break about 40mbps down. It seems like it's less than half the download speed of the V10, in every scenario. I did a *#0011#, and although it is connected to Band 4 on a 20MHz channel, the carrier aggregation almost always says "not config". I did see it aggregate with Band 12 5MHz channel once, but it didn't seem to help the speed test much. Are the carrier aggregation capabilities of this phone less than the V10? I can't figure out why the speed tests would be so much worse. I would think that everything would be the same or better than the V10... Is it possible that moving my SIM from the V10 to the S7E (instead of using a new SIM) could've caused this?
Obviously I'm not doing anything that requires more than 20mbps of throughput, so this isn't really a deal breaker. However, it is disappointing and a bit concerning.
[EDIT: This was fixed by changing the APN from IPV6 to IPV4 (see post below). Thanks to Chakra for the advice.]
You could just be validating how poor the notoriously bad Samsung radios are compared to other manufacturers.
Just change your apn settings, add a new one, use the exact same as it is, only ipv4 not ipv6, mine went from 2MB down to over 50.
Wouldn't this mainly be relying on the SD820's modem then? I don't think Samsung designed that in the SD820's.

Ironically, the tower shows up about 3db stronger than the V10, across the board. So it probably has a better antenna than the V10, but maybe a worse radio. Interesting.

This may be the ticket! I just did this, and got a result of 60x36. I'm at work right now, and this tower is pretty saturated... I'll try it tonight at home and see if I can get over 100 again. Thanks for the tip! I'll try to remember to report back the results tonight.
This did it! Just got 131x36 on my home tower. Thanks!

Lg v10 and s7 edge on tmo both use Snapdragon processors AND modems. So that theory is incorrect.
If it makes you feel any better, my data works fine, but my S7 wonks out about 75% of the time on wifi. My 50mb up/down connection works fine with my V10 (and EVERY other phone I have) but the S7 Edge is at 0.25 mb/s about 75% of the time. Working out a return/exchange now.
Our note 5's we got early took awhile to "sync" up. Give it a week

You might try putting your phone on a strict 5ghz frequency rather than 2.4ghz. A lot of the time that can fix WIFI issues such as these.

APN is unlocked on this phone with T-Mobile, just go to mobile networks, open access points, and on the top left is add, then fill out, save then choose. I didnt delete the old one.
Done forget to add Default, mms, supl, hipri, dun, admin, under APN type.
I just copied the other one and that worked fine.

I have it even worse. My data caps out at 1mbps down and like 0.1 up. My 2.4ghz wifi caps out at 0.25/15mbps (wtf?). My 5ghz wifi SOMETIMES hits about 70/15, but 75% of the time it's stuck at 0.25mbps like you. Restarting, changing the apn settings, swapping out the sim card (I just activated the one that came with the phone since I had been using the one that was in my gs6), etc. made no difference. My gs6 works at full speed, so its not a network issue.

Inconsistent 3G & LTE performance, defective unit?

Don't get me wrong, I love this phone despite the bugs. Software bugs.
However I've a serious issue regarding the 3G/LTE module. 3G/LTE performances are not consistent at all.
Sometimes it goes well (chatting, sending pictures, even testing the speed with a speed test) but other times the connection "hangs" and I'm not able to do anything for seconds or minutes (download pictures from whatsapp, sending text with telegram or open web pages). After that time, the connection seems to work again. When this Is happening, phone is at full signal.
Please note that I never had these issues with all my previous phones (Nexux 5, Nexus 5X, OnePlus 3T) with the same SIM card and under the same conditions (places, time of the day). I've performed all the updates available (software version 4.5.4) and cleaned the cache many times using the recovery.
I'm asking your help: is there some debug feature I can activate in order to see what is happening and understand the problem? Many thanks.
What carrier do you have?
ATT had to load my phone into there system. I'm in Seattle, WA USA
After they did that LTE has been perfect!

Basically you'd call in and ask to register your phone. It's not actually necessary but they do this anyway when you ask for a replacement sim. All they do is get your IMEI off your phone and add it to your account. Though with the 3 it already showed up during use. I don't think it matters much at all. Haven't had an issue with the 5 in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Nevada. I've simply plugged in the sim to this phone and went on my way since day 1.

Just to give you the big picture, I'll include everything that happened when I got my OP5 in terms of registering the phone on AT&T's network...
I got the OP5 and I came from a OPO, so I needed a new nano SIM card. I went to AT&T and they gave me a new sim but they were not able to get LTE signal at all. I was impatient and really didn't want to wait around so the rep and myself came up with excuses on why it wasn't working so I could get out of there. HSPA+ was the best I could get and it was about ~5Mbps up/down and I was happy with that for now.
I got home and decided to call in. Usual phone tree hell with AT&T began but I eventually got a level 2 Android technician. I will note the default values within the phone tree took me to iPhone support. Anyhow, the level two technician verified that my phone was not getting LTE. Furthermore, the device was not registered in the system at all. He gave me two options (which from the sounds of things, he wasn't supposed to do) 1.) I could just deal with the HSPA+ connection and it could take up to 5 days to fully load the phone but my phone would work perfect in terms of service/coverage/data rates (HSPA+) or 2.) He could load a Samsung S7 mock profile to my phone and it would more than likely work fine but don't hold him accountable for it. He said if it were him, he'd go for the S7 mock profile so I went with it.
Immediately I got an LTE signal and he had me reboot my phone. I've zero issues as he figured would happen and everything has been perfect. I got a confirmation text message from AT&T saying my phone will be loaded by July 6th and originally the technician told me around July 14th.
Anyhow, that was just my experience and a good experience at that. Of course, popping a sim out and back into a new phone would be ideal but a non-contracted AT&T device has to get loaded at some point and time I guess, right?
Cheers!

It wasn't until the AT&T tech adding the profile to the network that it works. It was instant too.

Just started today, and has been going on for most of the day:
Keep getting a notification saying Data Service is Blocked.
Reset my APN thinking it was that.. no go..

4.5.5
Reboots aren't helping much.
Instead of reseting the APN go make a new one based on the settings suggested by AT&T. I had some data issues on T-Mobile and I noticed the was a couple of differences in the APN (hipri, supl) things like that. Nothing major but I had slower speeds and some apps couldn't connect. I created a new APN and everything has been butter since.

Have you checked your data limits? Mine was maxing out at 1GB and it shut of the data. I had to go in and set it to not turn off data and I raised the limit to 1TB.
I did check the data and I have barely used like 500mb.
I read about AT&T banning the use of a note fan edition based on the information provided by the imei.. The person had called to activate and optimize the data connection on their device.. A few hours later they had constant no service whatsoever.

I'm wondering if its a signal issue?
When it happens, its in the process of changing from H+ to lte+

Just wondering how this phone is working on Verizon. Mainly in regards to download speeds when off WiFi.
Many reviews showed almost half of what fully compatible phones get.

So i have not had a chance to check download speeds, so far so good but no actual numbers yet. I cannot receive sms messages. Phone calls, LTE and sending texts is ok, spent the last 2 hours with a tech, they are unaware of the new phone so they are not much help. Came from a Pixel 2 XL pulled sim and switched, and boom issues....

I've read that as well... If you get into the options you just need to select LTE only under network type and texting should work.
I'm doing some download test now with my pixel 3 for comparison.
It's such a weird that that the phone is approved on Verizon yet, cannot receive SMS.

It is a shared data plan for my company. The problem is CDMA_LESS provisioning. It seems some 6T IMEI numbers are not in the Verizon system which is probably the biggest problem.
Everything works except receiving sms. Sim came from Pixel 3 XL.
Have rebooted, factory reset, cleared app cache as well as cache in recovery. Sim works fine back in Pixel 3. Chat was no help.
We already have a thread with same topic: Feeling about the 6t on Verizon?
Please continue your discussion there. Thanks.

essential paper weight?

so despite the warnings of signal issues with this phone I happen to pick one up for $50 off of eBay. Essential PH-1 is known a device with weaker cell signal compare to other phones. However, to me, it's usable. Depending on what carrier and location you are, it might not the same as other people. I heard lots of people in Tmobile complained about signal problem. But with Verizon and AT&T (myself), I don't have any issue at all. Specially after Android 10 upgrade, I feel like the reception got better.
I'm not sure your device condition, but my suggestion is to restore stock ROM, put latest Android version, keep everything as default for few days and monitor its performance.
Good luck with debugging process.
I think i can help

I was told it was unlocked. Not sure what to put in other than the carrier recommend APN settings. It has service but it's far worse than on any other device I've used

Unlocked can be any and all carriers ..I assume it is setup to work with most all of them. If you need someone to walk you through setting it up and hopefully getting a good signal im me and ill help you out.

Thank you for the offer but I put the phone back up on eBay. Couldn’t take it with the signal issues. I’m turning a profit so it’s not a bad thing for me any how
