Note 3 Quick Battery Drain (FIX)(Requires TWRP) - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Disclaimer: This method has a chance of messing up your phone, burning your livestock, pillaging your land & starting a war with North Korea. Use with caution
First off let me explain what my Note 3 was doing.
The battery would drain in less than 2 hours & WiFi would drain it even more quickly. I figured it was a TouchWiz problem so I switched to an AOSP base ROM. That did not fix it either.
So after many many fixes I tried something different.
I'm unsure if this will work for everyone, the models I performed this on are the SM-N900T & SM-N900A
Step 1: Charge to 100%
Step 2: Turn on NFC, WiFi, Data, Bluetooth, Flashlight & set brightness to 100%. Now wait for it to die.
Step 3: Reboot it into the OS(it may say 2% even though it died earlier when it said 1%), then let it die again.
Step 4: Repeat Step 3 until it automatically reboots upon starting. Once this happens proceed to step 5.
Step 5: Boot into TWRP, it may show no battery indicator(it didn't for me) or it may.
Step 6: In TWRP tap reboot into recovery
Step 7: Repeat Step 6 until it doesn't even boot into recovery.
Step 7: Charge it & You're done.
Now my Note lasts 6 hours with WiFi on!
I can't promise this will work for everyone, but if it helps even 1 person it's worth it.
Let me know if it helps!

Playing with fire totally draining a battery .
This by the way is not the forum for your phone model .

You should always calibrate your battery when flashing to a new ROM. There are plenty of apps that do this which is I believe what this method accomplished.

This is the Note 3 forum, says so right on the top. This method works the AT&T model aswell. Why create 2 separate posts in two different forums when this method plausibly works on more than the two models it has been tested on?

Wasn't my intention to blame him or anything. Just wanted him to know that there are a few methods out there in case he would have wanted to try that instead or for future reference.
I think I learned something today too, that calibrators don't work if the battery is completely damaged, which is to be expected

No they cannot calibrate the battery .
The battery calibrates itself .
See Battery stats Google engineers post .

Holy crap, i've been draining the battery completely for the past 3 hours and the recovery still says 0%!

Get a new battery, i bought 2 samsung batteries on ebay for 16$ and also you might test the charger, my wall charger (not the usb cable, the one square) was draining out the battery instead of charging it and it messed it up, had to buy nee charger and a new battery. Also found a deal 12$ for samsung wall charger and car charger with 2 usb 2.1 amp

Hello!
Guys, something is draining my battery while phone is powered off. Phone is slightly hot (around camera) also while turned off.
Thx for help.

can you help me?
Sorry you do not know how I do this if my phone says it has 40% battery charge and after it turns off, I do not know how to download everything if it only reaches 40% and it goes off when I put it in the charger says it has 0% Do you know how to do the precess? What is that or should I buy another battery?

First down load a battery calibration app from play store .
(This will not calibrate battery .)
Run the calibrator it will delete battery stats .bin
Use phone recharge if still a problem buy new battery .

Well you may notice that battery calibrator ,like the AccuBattery wont work on N3 so there's probably no way to calibrate it because of unsupported hardware

You cannot use any app to calibrate .
Calibration is a function of the battery and using it .
See multiple posts on the subject .

Not much changed , i see your method was once reccomended for users to do once a month . Btw is it neccessary to force it boot up to recovery manually after selecting "reboot to recovery " from TWRP without success ? Below is the time when my battery decrease from 20 to 10%

That was to be used as a one off to eliminate one very slight possible fault.
Calibration posts abounded on xda until Google engineer Dianne Hackborn put the correct information in a blog .
Delete battery stats bin ( that all a calibration app does)
Does not and cannot calibrate a battery .

How can i make battery life last longer?

i keep trying every rom available for my phone
and in every rom is the same the 100% battery last for like 3 hours then after that the battery drops like every minute even when screen is off?
how can i make battery life last longer?
thanks in advance
Lucky for you I still had copy of it in message box as I got 5-6 requests few hours ago regarding that.

Well the borderline idea is the same as you already know you have to completely drain it. Now never use any volt meter those people use to completely discharge it as the negative effect I already explained to you in that post. So best way is to do it by recalibrating so what you do is:
1) Fully charge it.
2) Drain it till you get 1%.
3) Go in recovery and wipe battery, reboot (batterystats.bin created).
4) As you still have battery low now let it charge till 100%.
5) Do the cycle again.
NOTE: This is what I would recommend but as we know the whole issue with CWM restarting while phone is off as you can flash the stock recovery and go back as it takes 3sec. If not follow the above.
1) Heavily use your phone so it drain the battery till its 1%
As you will see the low battery light flashing just so you don't lose your data save it by rebooting.
2) As you still have some battery power left you can now go to Recovery and wipe battery stats.
Or you can manually do it from adb shell by using remove command "rm /data/system/batterystats.bin".
3) Keep it on till its turns itself off.
As you may have guessed it still has power left so keep using the device till its drained completely I would recommend rebooting and going in bootloader as it uses more power due to bight screen as Recovery uses less power on display.
4) Now turn it back on again in bootloader till it turns off again.
It will keep turning itself of as no power left, this is what you want. This is safe way to discharge it without having negative adverse effect.
5) Now let it charge via A/C instead of USB.
Now when the light turns green unplug it and replug it till its green again, keep doing that till you see its green only. Now once you reboot in Android it will rebuild the batterystats.bin and you will be fully recalibrated.

First one is better for you. Do the cycle fully twice and you will be good to go and it will solve those most common issue like getting green light while its still not 100% or sticking it at 100% for long time and then dropping faster than you can count lol I just did it few hours ago, normally I do it once every 2weeks.
Alright thanks,
Ill try this out

I don't see a way to wipe battery stats in stock recovery. Doesn't that mean I have to wipe stats, reboot phone, switch to stock recovery then bootloader drain the phone? Will that reboot adversely effect the rebuilding of the bin file? Can I just delete the batterystats.bin file with root explorer before I power down the phone to start the bootloader drain process?

Sorry was asleep but yeah you can manually do it from terminal (su), adb (shell), root exp (enable r/w). Then power down as you saying you reverted back to stock recovery I am guessing you are on 3.0.0.6 supporting the 2.5.1.4 stock. So in that case just reboot and follow the same meth. This would clear out those lag (sticking at 100% for long time and then dropping faster than you can count) and wrong data (exp: 80% after rebooted 83%). I just recalibrated it yesterday which is the reason I spoke about it which caused this whole massive PM attacks and threads like this. Which is fine just do it once every 2weeks or once a month as doing it every week is not particle even for me.

Wiping battery stats help
I tried to wipe battery stats after my battery was drained to 1%, but nothing happened. I didnt see any scripts run that confirmed battery stats command had gone through. Was that supposed to happen? I'm really confused by this because I saw that my battery was drained to 1% but when I rebooted to recharge the phone, it showed that I was not fully drained. It read that I was at 20% and charging!? Please help guys. Thanks in advance

Hey all. Problems with battery after flashing Darky's ROM

I used ODIN to Flash Darkys_v9.2_Resurrection_Edition version. It went pretty well, everything works just fine, however, my buttery seems to run out a lot faster then the stock ROM.
I performed the following steps in an attempt to resolve this:
Calibrating Battery with Darky's ROM:
1. Use your phone until the phone switches itself off (battery empty)
2. Switch on once more to make sure battery really is 0% (it will then immediately switch off once more)
3. Now, keep switched off (!), plug in charger & leave in charging until 100%
4. When battery is full, switch the phone on, unplug & check if the batter immediately drops 1 or 2 %
5. If battery immediately drops, plug in charger once more (while running phone) & let it charge completely
6. Once charging to 100% is done, keep charger plugged in & Reboot into Recovery Mode
7. in Recovery Mode go to: advanced --> Wipe Battery Stats --> Yes-Wipe Battery Stats
8. When done: Go To --> reboot system now
9. Once system has rebooted, unplug charge
but that didn't seem to work, once I booted the device after an hour and a half I lost 10~% battery already.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
One read all the millions of posts with exactly the same rom and problem .
Two read the Battery Faqs three flash a different rom as by all accounts including mine Darkys = poor battery life .

I am on Darky 9.3 Extreme and after 2days 7hrs 28mins 22s, I still have 28% battery with an average use of wifi, 3G, calls and messaging. I never had any battery issue of any kind. I can post images if you want to see

For my sgs it caused severe battery issues. I found no other solution but to use a different rom.

Battery drain issues has been completely random, and there's not particular established trend for particular ROMs. I agree with you that I'm a bit luckier. I was on stock JS7 with bad battery drain. That was what gave me the impetus to install Darkkys, since for me, I though I would be facing similar drain, but luckily, it came out better than JS7 for me.

Reasonably true but some roms get multiple battery drain posts others do not .
So if rom XXX has a thousand posts with problems i would steer clear ..
The battery FAQ posts all over this forum may be of some help .
basics are to drain battery delete battery stats charge battery bump charge battery a couple of times then use the phone for a week or two .

Recalibrate your Samsung Galaxy S the PROPER way

HI guys i will be showing you how i recalibrated my battery and it worked for me,
1.charge phone till full (EVEN IF IT DROPS TO 98 AS SOON AS YOU UNPLUG ITS OK)
2.drain the phone and i mean DRAIN turn on everything (sync, wifi, bluetooth, everything
3.once your phone automatically switches off try boot if not boot into download mode
4.stay in download mode until it switches off again
5.once it switches off try accessing it again keep on doing it untill you cant
6.charge phone till full (make sure you dont switch on phone)
7.once it says full take off phone charger and quickly put it back in make sure you do it fast and do this 5-6 times
8.without taking charger off boot into recovery
9.wipe battery status but as soon as you are about to wipe quickly take off charger once it wiped put it back in and reboot phone
10. give it 3-4 days and make sure you do battery cycles
11.try flashing a different modem im using ZSJPG link:http://insanity.rollus.net/addons/modems/ZSJPG-Modem.zip thanks to nitr8 and alll the other rom developers
thx m8 very well explained, ill try to do it later

Have you checked the battery's voltage while doing this? Or is there a built in deep discharge protection even in download mode?
your phone will have a bit of power left to go to download mode for safety incase you do brick it but you cant brick your phone when your recalibrating
Personally i would only go that extreme route if you have a battery problem .
Multiple full drains and multiple bump charges is no good for battery life .
jje
I agree. I wouldn't go that extreme. if u r experiencing battery problem, use battery recalibrate app for galaxy s. (search xda forum and you will find it less than a minute)
It is more than sufficient to solve common problems

It's not so much a question of bricking the phone, it's more if you let a li-po battery (like the one in the SGS) go below a certain voltage it can damage the cells and drastically reduce the life of the battery
Ive read that such discharging your device (whether phone or pda) is not good for the battey, and that you should never try to force discharge it ...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Both bump charging and complete discharging can damage the battery.
Teaching this is both incorrect, irresponsible and dangerous as excessive discharges can under certain circumstances cause the battery to effectively explode the next time it is charged.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/battery_calibration
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
All this voodoo and mystery around calibration is silly. It's a simple process that need not be made any more complicated. Bump charging may be alright, however it significantly reduces the service life of the battery and so should not be done regularly, without proper warning.
I thought I would add my 2 cents to the battery thread. I am in the UK and have an XEU phone. I have gone through all different firmwares, modems etc. and all of them had one thing in common.....
Anything above XXJPY would just rape my battery and I mean about 50% in about 12h running barebones. Beleve me when I say that I tried all sorts. Currently I am running my own custome deodexed and stripped JPY, and havn't looked back.

[HOW TO] Fix Battery Life: Ultimate guide (calibrate + post#2 -FIXES) UPDATED 25Aug

Standart disclaimer: I am not responsible if you break things by following this guide, though I will be genuinely surprised if you do.
Credits: This fix is a combination of battery management techniques discussed in the Atrix forums + a technique that I originally found in a Milestone forum (I didn't invent it, but I am too lazy to search who originally posted it ).
This worked in fixing the problem for me (the same problem that I see many others are writing about on the forums), but I can't guarantee it will work for you.
Who should use this? (aka your battery problem symptoms are
1. Battery life on 2.3.4 is significantly worse for you than before.
2. Battery stats are jumping and showing inconsistent information.
3. Your phone loses 30%-60% just by sitting there overnight.
4. Phone idle draining 30%-60% of battery just by sitting there overnight.
5. After flashing a couple of roms, your battery stats got messed up and the phone thinks it's at 100% charge while it's not.
I personally started having battery problems after flashing a couple of roms, applying 1% battery mod and despite flashing jug6ernaut's CWM battery fix.
When I went to bed with a 100% charge, I would wake up to a 50% charge, with Phone Idle process showing up as massacring the battery. The steps below successfully fixed the problem for me.
Prerequisites:
1. Atrix on one of the rooted 2.3.4 roms (ideally,- deodexed and with unlocked CWM)
2. Wall Charger
3. jug6ernaut's CWM battery fix (put it on your SD card you will need it later!) I have also attached it to this post.
4. Battery Calibration app from the market
5. Watchdog Lite or Full from the market
Instructions:
It's best to complete this procedure in the evening before going to bed, so you can leave it at 100% overnight and check in the morning if the drainage issue is fixed!!!
The whole procedure along with recalibration might take up to 5-6 hours!
1. Take the case off your Atrix (one of the latter steps involves taking the battery out from the phone while it's plugged in. Make sure your case won't stand in the way.)
2. Install Battery Calibration app from the market
3. Plug in your Atrix to charge while it's on, wait till it gets to a 100%
4. When the charge is 100%, open the BatteryCalibration app and lookup what the charge is in MV while at 100%. (Explanatory pic, needed number circled in red). Write it down.
My Atrix was showing ~3400MV while at 100%, which is definitely not the maximum capacity.
5. Discharge your Atrix completely until it shuts off.
A good way of doing this quickly is by turning on wifi, and a video player.
6. Without turning on the phone plug it into a wall charger and let it get to 100%
7. When it's at 100%, without unplugging it from the wall charger, take off the battery cover, and take the battery out.
Your phone will "reboot" and show a Missing Battery icon.
8. Without unplugging the phone from the wall charger or turning it on, put the battery back in and wait until the phone recognizes the battery.
9. Your battery should now be recognized by the phone, and showing a charge % significantly lower than 100%.
Mine showed only 5%. Back when I used a Milestone, it usually showed 60% after doing this.
10. Let it sit there charging for 2-3 hours.
My phone wouldn't charge past 10%, but yours might. The numbers don't matter much as the phone is definitely getting additional charge that could have been lost while flashing ROMs, etc.
11. After 2-3 hours, turn the phone on while holding the volume down button and get into CWM.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
12. Install jug6ernaut's CWM battery fix (even if you had it installed before), do not reboot yet.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
13. Wipe battery stats in CWM, reboot.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
14. When the phone turns on, go into BatteryCalibration app again and look up your MV numbers
- if you were like me, they should be significantly higher than before. After this whole process I had 4200MV at 100%, comparing to 3400MV before calibration.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
15. Before going to sleep - Install Watchdog from the market. Go into it's preferences, set CPU threshhold to 20%, check "Include phone processes", check "Monitor phone processes", check "Display all phone processes", set system CPU threshhold to 20% as well.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
16. Make sure your wifi and data connections are off. Now finally unplug the phone from the charger.
Go to bed, let your phone sleep too.
17. Success! Next morning check where your battery % is at and if you followed the instructions correctly / got lucky like me, your battery life should be 90% or more.
I went to bed with 98% and woke up to 94%. So, I consider this mission a success.
(Your general battery capacity should have increased, even if something still was draining the battery, you will be able to find the infringing process in WatchDog with the settings we've set up in step 15 )
That's all folks! Please report your success / lack of such here. Also, feel free to ask questions, and I along with other users with answer them according to our ability.
I will later add a section on "good practices for battery usage" with tips and tricks.
Cheers!
Attached are screenshots of my results after calibration: This was under moderate usage. Pretty damn good if you ask me.
Post-calibration methods of improving Battery Life
Updated: Post#2 will explain how to solve battery drainage problems when recalibration wasn't enough. It will also explain how battery reporting works, common practices, tips, tricks, etc.
Battery Tips / Tricks / Common Practices
Important things to know:
1. It's important to understand how battery indicator on Android works and how Android manages / reports your battery life. Please read this article:
Your Smartphone’s Battery Gauge is Lying to You (and it’s not such a bad thing)
http://phandroid.com/2010/12/25/you...is-lying-to-you-and-its-not-such-a-bad-thing/
2. Li-ion batteries used in modern smartphones don't have "charge memory". Partial charges won't hurt the battery (e.g. charging from 60% to 80% or from 10% to 50% etc). Feel free to give your phone small charges whenever you have time and need the phone to last longer.
3. Smartphone batteries don't like to be completely discharged or to be kept at 100% capacity for extended periods of time (this actually damages batteries over time). But worry not, the battery software prevents this from happening for you. That's why some of your phones never get to 100% or drop from 100% to 90% minutes after you disconnct the phone from a charger.
4. All batteries gradually lose a small percentage of their capacity after a certain amount of charge cycles. It's a natural part of life. It's always nice to have a spare battery or to purchase a replacement when your current battery isn't to the task anymore.
5. Don't pay much attention to the battery %, just use your phones. I know it's very tempting to track your battery usage every 15 minutes and try to find problems. Been there myself. Thing is, if you do this, you might start thinking you have problems, when you don't have any.
Bottom line - just try to use your phone and not mess with the battery unless problems become really apparent.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other proven ways to improve Battery Life
If you have re-calibrated to a full capacity (4200mv) but your battery still drains terribly - follow these steps to pin point the problem.
1. Find which app / process is draining the battery.
If you get lucky, the infringing app will show up directly under the stock "Battery Usage" statistics. However, in most cases "Battery Usage" isn't very informative. Most people report that they only see "Phone Idle" consuming most of the battery without much insight into the details.
Things to do:
- install Watchdog, go to preferences, set CPU threshhold to 20% (or even lower if it's not enough), check "Include phone processes", check "Monitor phone processes", check "Display all phone processes", set system CPU threshhold to 20%(or even lower if it's not enough) as well. Run it for a couple of days.
If you start getting frequent Watchdog notifications about a certain app breaching the threshold - uninstall it, find an alternative.
- install BetterBatteryStats from here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 run it for a couple of days and monitor apps / processes that are using up more wakelocks than they should.
Once you find the infringing app - uninstall it, if it's a process - find out if it's safe to stop / freeze before doing anything.
2. Freeze bloatware aka "stop the problem before it becomes a problem."
Unless you are running CM7, your rom is based on stock 2.3.4 and still has blur in it. Blur apps and processes might be running without you even using them and sucking out precious batter life while they are at it.
Things to do:
- Get TitaniumBackup, freeze all bloatware that is mentioned as "safe" in this thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182663
Use your phone for a couple of days afterwards and watch for improvements.
If these software tweaks aren't enough, the problem might be with your system setup. Go through these steps which should hopefully fix your setup in favor of awesome battery life:
3. Flash a custom kernel, set up battery saving profiles.
Many people have reported success with this step. Custom kernels are not just for overclocking. A custom kernel with smart profiles will definitely give definitely extend your phones operating life during the day.
Things to do:
- Get a custom kernel., the popular choice on here seems to be faux'es kernel, so I recommend it -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156040
Get one of the battery saving SetCpu profiles along with it. Basically, a good battery saving profile looks something like this:
- absolute minimum CPU clock with screen off (something like 275 Mhz)
- lowering CPU clock with temperature > 50C (something like ~800Mhz)
- lowering CPU clock when battery < 30% (something like ~800Mhz)
Many people reported success in using such profile for lowering "Phone Idle" drain.
4. Flash a different radio.
WARNING: Be extremely careful with this. Flashing a wrong radio is the right way to hard brick your phone.
Although some people are reporting to have fixed battery drainage by trying out a different radio, I seriously wouldn't recommend going on a flashing spree unless you know what you are doing.
My advice here: flash the latest 2.3.4 for your carrier if you haven't yet. From there on, experiment at your own risk.
5. Disable Data and Wifi when idle either manually or with an app."
I seriously get surprised every time someone says they have a horrible battery life, when they keep an internet connection on at all times. Constant data always = battery drain.
Things to do:
- use apps like Green Power to disable data / wifi for you when you are not using it
- learn to turn off your internet connection manually
6. If all else fails - start over from scratch (read: clean install a rom).
I've heard reports of people getting better life with Froyo than GB, or that a specific custom ROM solved their problem for them. A million dollar question: if it works for you, why not use it?
Things to do:
- try a ROM without blur, like CM7
- try Ninja Speed Freak (developer and many users reported great battery life)
- if battery life is your top concern - try Froyo

Many thanks! Have pass about three days reading about the battery issues/solutions, and I was getting confused by so many info! Will try it tonight!
PS: Does the jug6ernaut's CWM battery fix works for the Orange 2.3.4 ?

Are you using stock Orange 2.3.4 rom?
If yes, your Rom might not have the battery jumping problem. You can still use this guide without the battery fix to recalibrate.
Let's wait for someone with Orange 2.3.4 to confirm if jug6ernaut's CWM battery fix can be used or not.
Indeed, I have not the battery jump issue, but I'm exprimenting some weird behavior...
like when I restart the phone, it shows about 10% higher than before. I tried this multiples times yesterday. When it was about 40%, it starts to drop suddenly, 'till it got to 18% and get back to normal decrease to 4%, 2~3 hours later...
See the images attached, the red circles are the times I rebooted it and the blue arrow is when it drops suddenly...
Question on step 4. To confirm, we shouldn't click on anything in BatteryCalibration, all that needs to be done is take note on the MV number, correct?

Did it only start doing this on 2.3.4 or you haven't checked before? Anyway, I would do the calibration to see if it changes anything.

No clicking in step 4. Just write down or remember the MV number.
Yes it just starts when updating to 2.3.4... In the first days I got the impression of lower battery level, so reading the forums I saw the restart/level change problem, and tested it

You probably updated to 2.3.4 while not at 100% battery level, and it messed up your battery stat. So, yes, do all the steps in this guide except for jug6ernaut's battery fix part.
thanks, ill give this a shot....again.....tonight and hopefully it will fix my issue.

Which download link? CMW_Jug6_FIXv2.zip?
I'm on a rooted stock GB and I'm having the problem where the battery usage stats are inaccurate and won't got below 90% after using it all day. This all started after I used Battery Calibration. Do you think that this would help correct the problem?
Edit: Also, would I need to complete all of the steps including the CWM part? I haven't flashed any roms yet, so I don't know if this would be necessary.

Seems like you used Battery Calibration while not at 100% charge and your battery stats got messed up.
The reason I recommend using CWM is because the battery stats file is created on each boot. So, with my instructions you can charge the phone to 100% while it's off and wipe the messed up stats before it boots.
You can try using my instructions, without the CWM part, except you need to wipe your battery stats with Battery Calibration app after step 4.
lol i left pandora on since this morning and its only at 67%. ugh, when i wanna force drain the battery it goes slow as hell but when i wanna conserve battery live for usage it drains quick. hahaha.
I just flashed navalynt's πCrust rom fully charged, cleared stats through cwm, booted and now i'm close to 3days.

lol yes. I used video playback to drain mine. But if it's really a PITA, you can always just leave it till tomorrow to discharge naturally.

Yep, that's why flashing only when at 100% charge always pays off.
I get the same results by booting to CWM, wiping battery stats, rebooting, starting Battery Calibration, plugging phone into wall charger, charging to 100% (4197mv for me), and then calibrating with Battery Calibration. I start this process at any battery percentage, and have been doing this for a long time now. I have never had to deplete my battery until my phone shuts off, and get great battery life.

After the calibration I had 4200mv, so it seems like you are doing things right in regards to the battery.
"Taking the battery out and putting it back in" trick works wonders though in restoring battery life to maximum state (if you had it decrease for some reason). I've tested it multiple times even back when I had the Milestone.

Help please with batterystats.bin

I have a terrible battery life. I am on KG5 whit a polish version of SGS 2 and I am trying to delete batterystats.bin but my phone is not rooted. I am a bit afraid that rooting it could have a bad impact on the data and voice reception because when I had KF4 it was almost impossible to use the phone. I am wiht Rogers in Canada now and the phone is from Expansys USA coming form Poland.
Please any suggestion how to delete batterystats.bin without rooting the phone so I can have at least battery for a day. Now I get 6-7 hours only.
Thank you very much in advance!!!
I admit I'm pretty new to all this, but I can see absolutely no reason why rooting alone would have any effect on data or voice reception - the act of rooting simply opens up/unlocks the OS, to allow you to run system commands and get at the subsystem.
If you were experiencing poor reception on a particular firmware, it's the firmware/modem to blame, not the act of rooting it.
The rooting for SGS 1 was a simple oneclickroot, now involves more steps, and I am concerned not to make a mistake. The phone does not have warranty and I do not wish to brick it.

It's pretty much impossible to hard brick the s2 unless you are working with/flashing PIT files. Otherwise it's pretty much 99% safe.
Any suggestions where to start from? I have
PDA KG5
Phone KG5
CSC KG5
Version XEO
2.3.4
Kernel 2.6.53.7 CL420550 [email protected] @ 2
If I update the phone with kies will I delete the root, and do I have to unroot before updating whit kies?
Is there any step by step tutorial for rooting the phone?
Anyway. I found the rooting procedure, and I it took less than 30 sec. Thanks for this. I will use BatteryCalibration and I hope this will fix my battery problem.
All that file contains is a history of the battery usage etc over a period of time, a real calibration means charging to 100%, clearing the stats, discharging it till it wont turn on anymore then charging to 100% in one sitting.
To get root all you need todo is flash CF root, it wont affect the radio(mode) thus wont affect the voice/data reception.

Then you have some kind of problem or you are using the phone very heavenly.
Check that the awake and screen on lines match up in settings > about phone > battery.
Also use better battery stats (link in my sig) to check whats holding wakelocks.
