Hi Folks
I just went through personalizing a brand new ZUK Z2 Pro Z2121 and found a lot of information scattered around the net which I tried to summarize here.
First I noticed my phone was not on the latest Firmware/ROM but the Update function in the settings would not show the SW 2.5.355 to be available.

Upgrade to 2.5.355
If your phone shipped with something less than the latest Firmware (as of now SW 2.5.355) you may want to update over the air first thing.
The problem is that you need to be in China to receive the update.
Solution:
Install a Free VPN App
(e.g Hola VPN - you will need Google Playstore first - install Playstore via App Center than search for VPN in Google Play)
Select a Server in China
Go to Updates and search for updates. If an update is found download will start.
Unfortunately this may take forever as you are probably using a free VPN server.
But the OTA Tool is not very smart.
If you terminate the running VPN connection while the download is active the download will briefly stop, but then resume (without the VPN).
10min later you should be all set.

Now that you are on the latest SW you may want to unlock the bootloader.

Unlock Bootloader
Unlocking the bootloader is required if you intend to root your phone.
It will wipe all user data, therefore I recommend to do this first thing.
On your phone go to Settings -> About -> Status to note your 8 digit serial number.
If your serial has less than 8 digits add zeros to the END to make it 8 digits.
While you are in Settings , Enable the Developer Options by going to
Settings -> About and clicking 7 times on ZUI Version.
Then go back to Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Developer Options and enable USB debugging.
We will need this later.
In order to unlock the bootloader you will need to got the zuk website, where you need to register first before you can request to unlock the bootloader.
So go here:

Select Email Registration (upper right corner) and fill in the required data.
Likely a Googlemail Address will not work.
You will receive an Email with a confirmation link.
Now that you are registered, log in and than go to
http://developer.zuk.com/bootloader
(use google to translate)
Click on Carry On.
On the next page select your phone type Z2 Pro.
Enter your serial nuber (8 digits)
Enter an email address where to send the unlock image. It seems that the email address here has to follow some rules.
[email protected] or @Web.net seems to work. A domain name with a hyphen (-) seems to cause problems.
Check the 2 check boxes and click SUBMIT.
If succesful you get a message that the image has been sent to your email address. No message means something went wrong. Likely the email address was not approved.
I had some trouble here at first.
Next things is to get ADB/Fastboot installed on your PC.

Safe the email attachment from ZUK you requested earlier (named unlock_bootloader.img) into the directory where adb is installed. (likely c:/adb)
Reboot into bootloader by:
Opening a Command Window and CD into the directory where adb is installed.
Do a

adb reboot bootloader
If this fails you may need to confirm USB debugging on your phone and try again.
Once the phone is in bootloader mode continue:
This will wipe your phone!!! Factory Reset !!!
Do a
Code:
fastboot -i 0x2b4c flash unlock unlock_bootloader.img
The response will look like this

Once the phone boots up it will be in Chinese again.
On the welcome screen tap the bottom of the screen below the highlighted blue text to skip the ZUK login.
To change the language back to English go to Settings.
In the third section choose the last entry. "Advanced Settings" (the gears symbol).
Choose the 2nd menu item.
Choose the first menu item and select English.
While you are in the Settings Enable USB debugging again. See Above. We will need it for the next step.

As a next step we will ROOT the phone by using a TWRP custom recovery image.

Rooting
I was a bit uncertain if the TWRP image is stable or not, therefore I decided not to flash it, but only to boot into it.
So I use it temporarily only.
First get SuperSU from here

and copy the ZIP file onto your phones internal storage.
Get the recovery here.

Save the image file in the abd directory.
Do a

fastboot -i 0x2b4c boot recovery-TWRP-3.0.2-20160712-ZUK_Z2_PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
The phone will now boot into recovery. Chinese at first.....
Click on the lower right button to change the language to English.
Click on the lower left button to keep the system read only.
On the next screen click install and navigate to the SuperUser.Zip File that you placed on the internal storage.
Confirm the install and finish rebooting. It will do a short loop and than boot up correctly.

Get the Google Stuff to work.
Install Google Play.
On the home screen click on App Center. Select Go to Home Screen.
Search for Google Play and install.

Custom Launcher
Installing a custom launcher seems a bit tricky, as you can not permanently set the new launcher as the default.
You can try in Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Applications
At the very bottom you can find the Preferred Apps section.
Set your Launcher as preferred.
This did not work for me.
Workaround: Install Google Now Launcher from the Playstore -> Open it -> Follow the dialog to Settings -> Select your Launcher - Press Home
It basically takes you to the Settings -> Home which is hidden in the ZUK settings
De-Install Google Now if you don't want to use it.

Widgets not updating or being empty.
There is an App pre-installed called SafeCenter. It has pretty tough autokill rules, which kills the processes / services needed to update the widgets.
I decided to diable SafeCenter completely, for which I had to use a separate App. The Disable functionality in the settings was not active (grey).
You can use several Apps from the Playstore to do this. I use one called SystemCleanup.
While you are at it. Disable Bug2Go -> according to the internet some tracking/spy App used on Motorola phones before.

Adblocker AdAway
If you want to use an AdBlocker like AdAway which modifies the /etc/host file you may run into isssues that the Adblocker can not mount the system partion read/write.
In that the host file maybe put into a different location. (e.g /data/hosts) and the original file must be replaced by a link.
Make sure you still have USB debugging enabled. Open a command window and change into the adb intall directory.
Do a

adb shell
followed by a
Code:
su
Grant permission to adb shell for root access on your phone.
(The command prompt will change from $ to #)
Do a
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /system
to mount the system partion RW.
and create the link with
Code:
ln -sf /data/hosts /system/etc/hosts
In this case I assume the Adblocker will place the hosts file in /data.
Check or Set in the settings of the Adblocker the correct location.
You should do a
Code:
mount -o ro,remount -t ext4 /system
to change back to a read only system partition.
I had to reboot to make everything take effect.
This has been tested with AdAway.

Finally the Notification LED ....
I am still looking into this, but it seems that the post from Florent here

provides a solution / workaround. I will provide an update here later.

If you have time, you could also cover custom roms, especially because our phones are ARM64, unlike the majority

did what you said about updating phone. got no update and i'm on ZUI version 2.5.335 ST. is your version just a typo?

When I want to register for unlock the bootloader I get a timeout message in chinese. Is this a known error?

i had to install a fresh windows 7 64 bit version to be able to use fastboot ..
download the zuk z2 pro drivers <- search string google
install adb drivers
after connecting windows promptet me for installing the lenovo bla bla drivers
and i was merily on my way
for mee ik took 2 days to come to that point so i hope this is of help for those who have the same problem on win 10 no dice also after clean install

ho installato la zui 2.5.435 st, dopo ho seguito alla lettera le instruzioni per avere i permessi di root.
ho scaricato supersu, e lanciato l'installazione tramite TWRP, il problema che il telefono non si è mai riavviato. rimane con schermo nero.
ho provato due volte ma nulla da fare, devo reinstallare la zui da capo per avere il telefono funzionante.
mi date una mano per avere i permessi di root e poter aumentare la traduzione del telefono in italiano.

Hello to all,
I installed the zui 2.5.435 st, after I followed the instructions to have the root permissions.
I downloaded supersu, and started installing via TWRP, the problem that the phone has never restarted. Remains with a black screen.
I tried twice but nothing to do, i have to reinstall the zui from head to have the working phone.
Give me a hand to have root permissions and to increase the translation of the phone into Italian.

I'm not receiving the e-mail. It gives me the message e-mail has been sent, but there's nothing in inbox or the spam folder. The registration confirmation e-mail had arrived immediately.
I have tried using a gmail adress, a gmx.com one and a disposable e-mail, but none of them are working out. Any suggestions?

Thank you, I will try this. The link in the first post no longer works....
Edit: I went to the unlock bootloader page, entered everything and was then redirected to the login/register page. It was even possible to switch to English. From there on it was a straight forward procedure, and I quickly got the mail with the bootloader image

I bought it (a new one) in Colombia last week, it´s a great cellphone but when i turn on the WIFI, nothing happen, keep the grey icon, never green as the bluetooth or gps, Just a notification that says something about security, something about blocking an action. In spanish: "Aviso de Seguridad: La seguridad de su dispositivo bloqueó una acción que no está permitida. No es necesaria ninguna medida adicional".
I tried to do a hard reset, but didn´t work, also I tried to root it, then delete all the Knox application and the "notification" dissapeared, but the wifi does´t connect neither.

I´m not root at this time, Yesterday after the problems made a reset, and then i put again the original firmware without root. Can i open /system or if is necesarry root again??

KW 18 smart watch adding watch faces.

I tried to add more watch faces to my KingsWear KW18 smart watch using fundo app.
I followed the tutorial from following method but its not working for me. Can you please guide me what should I do.
1. Install the Support app of your smartwatch in your smartphone, you can download the app via the QR code available in your smartwatch or you can just search for the “Fundo Wear” or “MediaTek Smart Device” in Google Play. For me I picked the MediaTek support software, but they have almost the same UI with “Fundo Wear”.
2. Connect the app to your smartphone, pair it with each other, after successful pairing, go to “My Applications” settings, as you can see there are already several apps available to install, if we are going to install a watch face this is the location where you have to install and uninstall.

After you copy the files to the App Manager, Go to the “My Applications” settings of your smartwatch , if successfully copied you will see the app/files in the MediaTek “My Applications” setting with the Icon logo of the app as well as the name, on the right side you will see a button “Install”. Press/Select “Install” and the watch face will be automatically installed in your smartwatch. Success!
But one thing more I connected my watch to PC and put some .vxp files in local storage and install it from there. It worked like a charm

OnePlus 5 OxygenOS 4.5.x encryption- Nougat Direct Boot/File Based, or older?

Many threads have recently been posted about how the OnePlus 5 does NOT ask for the PIN at hardware boot time, wondering (as I was, too) what happened to the security option "require PIN at boot".
Reading up on Nougat native encryption, I learned that Google/Android have added "Direct Boot" with "File Based Encryption" (where Direct Boot-aware apps can request that the hardware security module of the device put certain information into storage encrypted only by the device itself, leaving other files - user data - accessible only after the user has entered their PIN/password, enabling e.g. alarms to ring even after a middle-of-the-night-reboot of the phone).
Can someone confirm (I've not found an app or setting or command to report which encryption mode is in use; only an API, and my developer days are waaaaaay behind me) whether the OnePlus 5 with OxygenOS 4.5.x uses the new Nougat/Android 7 "File Based Encryption" and "Direct Boot"?
That would explain the "missing" PIN at boot.

This seems to be a widespread issue. Found several places where people are complaining of the lack of "secure start-up" in the OP5. I have started a bug report here: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/secure-startup-option-missing-in-oneplus-5.588963/
Feel free to add there.
Still waiting on OP to respond with something substantial other than scripted responses.

OnePlus support responded to me on this.
The answer is "YES", OnePlus 5 / OxygenOS 4.5.x DOES use the new File Based Encryption and Direct Boot.
So there CANNOT BE a "require PIN at boot" option.
Now, if anyone would prefer the greater cold-boot-security certainty of Full Device Encryption over the newer and theoretically slightly more vulnerable File Based Encryption, it might be possible somehow - probably not with OxygenOS - to fall back to Full Device Encryption.
I'm of divided mind on the FDE vs. FBE question. FDE is more secure when the device is off cold. It is less secure when the device is running, if the device can be compromised somehow, as the FDE key must be cached in memory, especially on rooted devices such as mine. FBE+Direct Boot is much more convenient, but seems to run the risk of a physical access to the device allowing the device-encrypted-only operating system files to be corrupted/Trojaned .. but on the OnePlus 5 which has a hardware secure zone, I guess this is supposed to be possible only at the level of State security services, and, frankly, if they want me, I know they're going to win regardless, so I'll just enjoy Direct Boot and try to avoid drawing undue attention .

El OP5 tiene como modalidad en encriptación el FBE+EXT4, es decir como usted ya sabe, el "File Base Encryption/Direct Boot".
Ya que el FBE es mejor que el FDE.

I wonder how FBE affects TWRP - In previous OP's TWRP had a lot of issues with disk based encryption, but generally a working variant would ask for a password and decrypt the data partition. How does that work now?
On a related note, I too thought the "missing pin at boot" option was a bug, till i read up on FBE. Its def not a bug ...it just isnt needed now

Funny you should ask that just now as I downloaded and successfully applied a full image OTA last night, onto my TWRP Recovery, rooted, OP5 (which uses File Based Encryption/ Direct Boot)!
After downloading (and finding) the full image OTA update (and copying it to /sdcard), I rebooted into TWRP and was slightly surprised to see it asking me for a decryption password (which I didn't remember it having done before), and then relieved that my PIN worked to decrypt.
I applied the full OTA (1.5GB, ZIP signature verification does NOT work!) plus Magisk plus Magisk-Busybox, wiped Dalvid/Cache, rebooted, and all is well.
I've running the expected update to OxygenOS, Magisk and root are still there, and nothing strange (so far, it's only been a few hours).
So I guess the current OP5 TWRP is all good with OP5's OxygenOS FBE/Direct Boot.

Xiaomi Mi A2 - Android 9 Pie Update + Magisk + Camera2 API

I'm from Brazil and in the last two days I was reading about the Android 9 Pie update to our Mi A2.
I also read that today it started to roll out to India and some European countries.
For curiosity I installed ExpressVPN, conected to an Holland server and tried to download the OTA. It worked flawlessly.
I flashed via fastboot the Magisk patched boot of 10.0.1 build and got the Magisk also working flawlessly.
For the Camera2 API, I just edited the Magisk module and added the line "persist.vendor.camera.HAL3.enabled=1". Then I installed it through Magisk module screen. It also worked.
These are the steps I did:
1 - Obviously you will need to be on Android 9 Pie
(Try to download the OTA via VPN or wait to get it in your country)
2 - Download this file and extract it: https: // drive.google.com/open?id=1b9jRc1gZuPJatds5RkuCiJtuE7UCH5wh
(Remove the spaces)
3 - Turn your phone off and boot it in Fastboot Mode by pressing and holding Power + Vol Down and then, plug into the USB;
4 - In the extracted files, open the folder "Plataform Tools" and then open the Power Shell window.
(Inside this folder I added the original "boot.img" and the "patched_boot.img", all from 10.0.1 build)
5 - In PowerShell, just type: fastboot boot patched_boot.img
(It should boot with Magisk installed)
6 - Open Magisk, tap Install and chose to install directly. Reboot
(It will prevent Magisk get uninstalled after reboot)
7 - Transfer the files "Camera 2 API Enabler - Pie.zip" and "Google Camera - 5.1.018 Arnova8G2 8.3b1 (Pie).apk" to your phone memory.
8 - Open Magisk, go to "Modules", then tap the yellow buttom, search for the "Camera 2 API Enabler - Pie.zip" file and then install it. Reboot
9 - Once the phone rebooted, install the "Google Camera - 5.1.018 Arnova8G2 8.3b1 (Pie).apk".
(Go to Developer Options and unchek "camera.enable_micro", so you can use 5MP on front camera)
10 - Done! You're now on Android Pie with Magisk and Google Camera

Try to follow this (steps made by users that got it)

Works the download boot in reboot, bootlop 9 times, and starts and says "couldn't update".

I think so!
You just faked your region, the OTA file will be the same for everyone.
In my case, the phone was fully set up (with Google Account and all the stuffs) and I managed to get the OTA. It has no sign of a Netherlands-like phone at all.

No, this is a legit OTA.
You will lose OTA if you screwed up with system partition.
If you install Magisk and use its modules, you still be able to get the OTA.

You still get the OTA with unlocked bootloader.
Follow the instructions on OP and you will enable Camera2 API without touch the system partition, so you will have no problem with future OTA's.

If you use Magisk Modules you will be able to get OTA's.

I feel the neccesity to create a separate thread for this version of HU since it makes always confusions whether the revealed information relates to the owners device or not. On the other hand some of the applied methods are way more different compared to the PRO series that mainly derives from the differences of the UI thus this thread will ease that confusion.
That is why i will share here all the methods of troubleshoots i have collected so far.
Basic codes:
Settings ==> Car Settings ==> Extra Settings ==> 8888 (restricted settings)
Settings ==> Car Settings ==> Extra Settings ==> 123456 (advanced settings for left panel touch controls and ect.)
Settings ==> Car Settings ==> Reset Factory ==> 7890 (wipe data - all 3rd party app. will be deleted)
Settings ==> System ==> Developer Options ==> 7890 (usb debug and ect.) ==> USB debug Pw.: [email protected]
Advanced Developer options:
Settings ==> System ==> Developer Options ==> 7890XX , XX=Current time in hours 24hrs format. If its 7 o clock in the morning then the code is 789007
Do not try any of these codes with no reason and without the adequate knowledge!!!!
If the HU is working well forget it!!!!
Use these codes only on your own risk and reponsibility!!!!

Method to force update and wipe data cache as a solution for boot looping.
Right now there isnt any known method for this version of the HU to restart in recovery mode to make a wipe cache but . . . .
There is a working method to force the HU into update mode even if it stucked in boot loop.
-Get a paperclip, needle or toothpick
-Get an USB flash drive 1-32 Gb, Format it with FAT32 file system with the default volume size as it is provided by WIN11
- Open the link (provided by JUNSUN support)

-Extract the ZIP file and copy all 3 files to the flash drive root directory.
- Get in the car and connect the flash drive to the 4 PIN USB outlet.

-Take the paper clip and press the reset button 1x, just press, dont hold
-The device will restart and when the boot logo appears again switch the power off/ turn the key/ ignition off immediately.
-Wait 10 SEC and turn to ACC/Power on.
-If everithing went well a "green loading bar" shuld appear on the screen with the tex "UPDATING" or something similar, i could not read it properly because it was visible only for a couple of second due to the size of the upgrade files ~2kb . I think these files are something that is like ADB (Android Debug Bridge) and initiates an update recovery command.
-The update took me approx. 5 mins.
-After the update all 3rd party application will disappear, eventually its like a wipe chace.
So far this is the only known working methode to get out from boot loop without flashing the HU.
Ps.: If it does not work try the other USB outlet or try another flash drive. If it still does not work dicsonnect every cable from the HU and reconnect only the power supply and USB and try again all the combinations that i previously mentioned.

(2)You can enter the ‘NEXAI Voice’ application to check whether it is activated. Once the activation is completed, the voice control function will be available and the Nex(Floating Robo) will change the color.

Solution for Bluetooth connection issue / failure.
After installation of a third party launcher app or upon updating the firmware it is a common problem that the bluetooth connection does not work (BT device is not visible and unable to discover another device). And also if you check the the MAC address of the BT device it will be value "Null"
With the following method you can activate the built in BT device :
First you need to go into the bluetooth settings and check if there is a username and password. (Important: you don’t need to enter anything yourself, the name and password must be assigned automatically.)
Then
Got to SETTINGS > CAR SETTINGS > EXTRA SETTINGS >> 123456 >> CONFIG INFO >>> tick the box, select >>> BC6 (in some version it is BS6) >>> disable all the others >>>> RESTART
Now it should work.
If the checkmark is in the BC6 checkbox, then you need to deactivate it and put it in front of BC8.
If it is opposite BC8, then you need to change it to another checkbox, reboot the device, and do the same operation, but return the checkmark to the checkbox opposite BC8.

the normal update procedure is to place the firmware update files 8667.bin and 8667.upd files on the root of fat32 usb into 6 pin usb slot, turn on and tap screen, it should show "detected" in top left corner then it updates, however my update files must have been corrupted as update failed and it seems its wiped the unit as now it shows detected but then goes to fastboot mode see pics

In my opinion your Boot Loader is corrupted that is reason why it can not be flashed.
The most valuable knowledge can be gained only on the bases of personal experiences. What i can recommend you not more just to make a try. Series of tries will lead to the success.

Dobrý den. Dnes jsem konečně namontoval nový Junsun v1 s Androidem 11 a jsem z toho rádia docela zklamán. Myslel jsem, že namontuju rádio, nastavím základní věci a budu hrát. Tak to rozhodně není. Nepřehledný, složitý, celý večer koukám na internet a teď už asi 3 hodiny pročítám toto fórum. Zjistil jsem, že RDS je nutno nastavit, OK. Logo vozu je nutno kdesi stáhnout, OK. Ale co mě mrzí nejvíc, když jsem rádio namontoval, fungovalo vše v pohodě. Ovládací tlačítka vlevo stále měnila barvu, čehož jsem si moc nevšímal s tím, že to pak změním na stálou barvu. Připojil jsem zadní kameru a vyzkoušel funkci. Podle schématu v manuálu nešla, našel jsem info, že se musím použít hnědý kabel a pak už to fungovalo. Ale pak jsem si vším, že ona tlačítko vlevo jsou potmě. Víc než hodinu jsem hledal v menu, kde by se to dalo nastavit ale nenašel jsem. Poradíte mi prosím někdo, jak to nastavit? Koupil jsem k tomu i modul OBD2, docela jsem se divil, že v jednotce není žádná apka k tomu, stáhnul jsem Torque ale ten se mi nedařilo nijak připojit. Zkoušel jsem to už dřív v mobilu, tam jsem se s ním sice spojil, ale komunikace žádná, Santa Fe CM2 2006. To ale zatím řešit nechci, teď mě nejvíc trápí ta tlačítka potmě. Děkuji za radu

The control buttons on the left kept changing color, which I didn't really notice except that I would then change it to a constant color. I connected the rear camera and tested the function. It didn't work according to the diagram in the manual, I found information that I had to use a brown cable and then it worked. But then I notice that the button on the left is dark. I searched for more than an hour in the menu, where it could be set, but I couldn't find it. Can someone please advise me how to set this up? I also bought an OBD2 module for it, I was quite surprised that there was no app for that in the unit, I downloaded Torque, but I couldn't connect it in any way. I tried it before on my mobile phone, I did connect with it there, but no communication, Santa Fe CM2 2006. But I don't want to deal with that yet, now the buttons in the dark bother me the most. thank you for the advice
