Mha-al00c00b172 - Huawei Mate 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

My research tells me that there's a new build for the Chinese version: MHA-AL00C00B172.
I don't yet know if it's to be a public or an internal beta, nor do I know the change log. I do know that there's something different about it from previous updates, but not yet sure what. It might be EMUI 5.1, but I can't confirm that yet. Hopefully I will know more soon. Details coming as soon as I can find them.
Edit: Seems to be a closed beta

Bummer. I was hoping for a completely new update that fixes the notification issues and few other minor issues.

Well, I'm getting pretty close to being able to enable installation of closed betas. Here's a full list of Mate9 closed betas (Haven't found anything outside of MHA-AL00 yet though)

Here are the release notes from B172. I've figured out Huawei's private beta system. I think I'm the first person to do so.
<feature>This update adds a 10x zoom in camera, optimizes the drawer homescreen display.</feature>
</features>
<features module="[What's new]">
<feature>Added a 10x zoom, flexible shooting far and near.</feature>
</features>
<features module="[Optimizations]">
<feature>Optimized the drawer homescreen display for a better experience.</feature>
<feature>Decreased the CPU load for several core processes to achieve better system performance.</feature>
<feature>Improved device security with Google security patches.</feature>
</features>
<features module="[Update notes] " type="end">
Still a bit left to figure out, though, so it may be a while yet. I can get the files for the OTA as of right now, but not the full.
Edit: Done. I've now got full access to all the MHA-AL00 betas. I'll be on the lookout for other betas, and might have very nice news to report soon

Indeed. So I don't think they keep accurate changelogs for betas. The build date is 2017-02-17 so it's definitely newer than the changelog would indicate.

Yup, the 10X camera was a couple updates ago. I was hoping for the update to Nougat 7.1 for AL00. For some reason I thought it was coming out in Feb.... Better not hold my breath on that one!

I'm happy to announce the results of my work, in the form of changelogs for upcoming versions. To install the beta versions, it would still be necessary to use something like FunkyHuawei to distribute them, as they are not offline install files.
As for making the actual method of finding the beta versions public, though, I considered it, but decided not to, because I don't want Huawei to close the loophole.

Definitely an old changelog, 10x zooming is not a new function but I can't remember with which ROM it was introduced. Current ROM in China is B167
Does anybody know how to join the beta program or can send me a link?

It's not a public beta program. It's an internal build. There's also B172 for the Mate 9 Pro.
As far as I know, there is no beta program to join.

No beta?
I think that there is beta program on chinese AL00. Only this model can receive first-wave updates via HiCare app. There is special function: OS update early adopters.
Tried many times on my MHA-L29 - no dice.

I've found many L29 and L09 beta builds too, but they are all older than current release. Some are called M300 instead of MHA (even recent ones, for example, there is an M300-L636B150) Early adopters may get official builds pushed to them sooner, but not beta updates as far as I can tell.

No, AL00 don't even have this option.
About a year ago there was a Huawei public beta program. (Betaclub.huawei.com). You still can register but the website is not available anymore.

Will Huawei send nougat OTA or do I have to download it?

I'm not seeing any traditional update software options in the about phone section. How will we receive Android OS updates on this tablet? Thanks.
Well it seems in the moment there just are no updates...
Normally you should get your update via ota (you should see an update option in your "main menu"), except for beta/leaked versions, if they should leak anyhow/anytime...
For now, there are no leaked or official updates for our mediapad m3 :-/

If you Google nougat for Huawei mediapad M3 there are several sites that claim they have the download you can Flash
The only thing in the about phone setting I can find about updates is updating the emui
As I know the update emui menu will also update your android (for example to android 7 + emui 5.0).
I know these sites, but as long as I do not see a link hier on xda, on the huawei news pages or on the huawei homepage itself I think these links are just nonsense.
(For example some of these pages just link every phone available and say "download XXXXX android 7 here"... I would not try to install these... But I also suppose you won't get a real package anyway there.)

Rally don't know if we ever see 7.0 for the M3.
The M2 never received 6.0, and what I heard is that Huawei just doesn't give a fu** about tablet software.
Huawei generally doesn't give a fu** about software updates. My Mediapad X2 GEM 701 never received an update. That's why I had to undergo a hugely complex updating procedure with chinese ROMs modified sh1t.
I just got the new update with October patch. They removed the navigation bar too.
How did you get this patch for your m3? Mine can not find any updates...
Chinese version only perhaps?

Correct,also it said better chrome operation,so maybe people that had problems running chrome in small format ,now can. I always had mine set in medium text and didn't have a problem. There were other things it said ,basic improvements,etc... I can't really notice any change other than the ability to disable the new buttons. Which like I said ,disables the ability to start split screen. Unless someone can tell me how to do NB it with only the fingerprint scanner......I'm also running Nova free launcher.
Plainly,this tablet is sick as F. I'm coming from a wifi only Xperia z3tablet compact though...... the only reason I bought this just because the camera Hardware had a malfunction on the Sony.

Haha haha,
Yes in a very good way. It's heavier than the z3 compact,and no water resistance,but it's smooth ,fast,and the LTE connectivity is incredible. I always have 5 bars of 4g. Now ,I live in Thailand,and the internet is crap here compared to the USA,so in the states it's probably even better. It was half the cost of a normal flag ship phone too,and it's basically a huge phone. It comes with a screen protector and a case,however the case is Carmel color and hard to look at,but it's growing on me. This tablet charges very fast too.
If your on the fence,buy it for sure.

Essential Service update available

Just for info
New update to Essential Services on playstore now, 2nd October.
Anybody know what the Services are for?
Edit: Says Bug and performance fixes. Maybe firmware related?
I just got my essential phone off of swappa and it's running build "NMI75B test-keys". For some reason I am unable to update any system apps via the play store while on this build. Camera, Essential Resources, and Essential Services are all showing updates available, but every time I've tried to download them I get error code 505. I think there is something with this test build firmware that is preventing me from updating system apps via the play store. Every other app (150+) that I have installed has worked flawlessly.

Build NMI75B is not an official build from Essential. The device in reference from the XDA link is using incremental beta SW in test - 64C is the official release build at this time but we will be releasing another public SW update within the next few weeks. Stay tuned.

Just received Google March Security Patch for my Mate 9

Just received Google March Security Patch for my Mate 9. Live in SF. Impressive that update came so fast. Hopefully, Hauwaei realizes how important it is to continue to fix bugs, add security.
Phone is impressive, especially battery power. Never had a phone, being power user, that goes all day and still 50% at night. Beautiful screen, fast, storage.
Got the update about a week ago, nice to see updates still coming. Located in Canada.
Got it on the 12th. Hope the updates continue.
I had the update waiting for a few days, but due to having TWRP, I couldn't install it. Flashed the stock recovery yesterday and updated. The April update is already on FF so hopefully Huawei will continue to push out updates in a timely fashion

Hope you're right. Continuous updates would give US customers confidence in brand & counter negative publicity by right wingers, who are only concerned with protecting US commerce, not security.

If the April patch (USA version) works like the March version, I'm guessing early May to be approved.
FF shows it, but not available, EMUI update shows no updates, so I'd guess it will be a few more weeks
for most people unless you want to jack with the phone a bit.
Buggy
I updated my Mate 9 to the March Security Update a few weeks ago, and ever since then, a few apps have been crashing on startup. Google keep, Gmail, etc. It doesn't say anything after when crashing. And it's annoying as hell.

Here at xda, we post in English. Which is an actual rule here. If you cannot speak English, it still needs to be translated. I did it myself for the forum, but just an FYI for future posts. Can be found here if you need reference. https://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81 further more, what some Joe schmo says on a website means nothing. Most of the idiots from honor on social media said Oreo wasn't coming h to the h8, but yet it's in beta. These "representatives" know annually nothing about what's being developed for the phone and you're just silly if you think they do. Hell, the main guy from honor usa couldn't even tell me how long it takes an OTA to go from them to the public. In short, this isn't anymore solidifying than the goofballs saying we weren't getting Oreo because some random rep said so. I hope we can agree to disagree on this instead of doing what most of XDA does and "flame" each other. Have a good day.

It is true, I should had add the source from the beginning that is my fault.
But I really did post in English and translated that part about the Honor 8 and it is not my fault that the source behind the link is in Hungarian. I might have mistakes since my English isn't perfect but I hope that does not count
So the story behind this Hungarian topic is that Honor got even more separated from Huawei in Hungary, now they have their own distribution channels, marketing, management etc. and in order to be more influential they collaborated with the largest tech media site called "mobilarena" (like here in XDA) and opened a Honor topic in order to answer questions. Obviously the first question was about Oreo for Honor 8. Few days later they wrote back that they have been directly negotiating with the manufacturer but he is not able to provide any specific information about the (Oreo) update (sorce). However he can tell that a smaller update gonna happen in June... and the rest is in the first post. So I am not judging anybody if they don't believe in the representative after all those false information. Have a nice day as well!
Backup Internal storage goes offline in June 2018
Like title says, in June there will be some kind of update not sure if Oreo or just monthly security patch, but go to the: Settings > Advanced settings > Backup and reset > Huawei backup, try option backup data it will give you options how to backup data: Computer, Internal storage or USB storage.
Under Internal storage there is red message about offline feature in June 2018.

That update (virtual, three finger screen shot,...) or Android Oreo or maybe something else, how knows.
EDIT:
Maybe it is based just for the app from Huawei (Huawei backup).
Funny, child company Honor using Huawei app and cloud storage (cheap move)
Maybe in June 2018 they will give new option for Honor users.
Honor backup on Android 7.0
To be sincere i saw the changelog for the Honor 6A. I downloaded and installed the firmware on my grandpa's phone and it has those features. But i think H8 won't get anything because it already have double knock to screenshot , knock with two fingers to record and vol down pressed to recall HiVoice....all this is included in the Honor 6A update (about 407 mb) so no need to "update" H8 with functions already present. I know...3 finger swipe down isn't the same as double knock...but wtf cares?

Maybe just as the Chinese version has more features other regions might have some differences as well. Maybe L02 did not have all these features yet while L09 had already had some of it.

Haha sorry for my ignorance. Didn't properly read the changelog the first time around. You are right a couple of those features aren't available on other models yet.

If I install this through FF, because it's not downloadable through the System Update app, am I voiding my phone's warranty?

Android 10 Beta

Anyone have any idea when we may get a Leaked of Android 10 Beta, since T-Mobile is working on it I read???
It may not leak, who knows. The official betas only work with the Google pixel which is out already. To me, Android 10 sucks as it's all swipe gestures to do stuff, so I am not in a hurry to get it.

Sorry bro, but T-Mobile is no longer working on the Android 10. They had marked the Android 10 update under the 'testing' phase earlier, but it turns out it was a mistake as yesterday, they fixed by marking the update to be under 'Development' phase, meaning Samsung is still building the update and that they are yet to receive it. Sad.
There's been a beta program with every other major release for Samsung, why not 10

You still have the option for buttons. If your upgrading from 9 with buttons enabled it will stay after update. Otherwise you have the option during setup and in settings.

This is good news! I thought on screen buttons were completely removed from Android 10 due to a YouTube demo I watched. I gotta have my buttons!

Yep me also StoneyJSG.
So looking at the ota server log its looking like they are currently working on android 10 update.
The "o=10" part is usually what marks the android version the firmware is for. (i cant confirm that but based on previous updates listed that number has reflected the android version)
