Should I Update to Nougat now or wait for the U Firmware? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Should I update to the Nougat firmware now or should I wait until the U firmware comes out?
Or would it also be possible to flash the U firmware later down the road? I'm not sure if this would work since I got the phone in November and when I tried to flash the same firmware for the U model the bootloader prevented it.
Let me know what you guys think, I want to get off of the T-Mobile firmware and get rid of all the bloatware that comes with it.

It's up to you. I used the u firmware before and of course it was snappy. Not much snappier than the T-Mobile firmware tho since I use package disabler pro to disable the tmobile bloat. Plus I prefer the tmobile firmware since the wifi calling works the way it should just incase I have no signal.

I bought the phone used and unlocked it, I'm on ATT so I don't need wifi calling. I want to get rid of all the T-Mobile stuff. I kind of want to upgrade it now and then upgrade to U later, but last time I tried to flash a firmware to the U version it didn't let me.

I would upgrade if I were you. I ran U firmware for quite sometime and that was snappy but nougat puts it's to shame with how smooth and fast it is. You can disable most of the TMB bloat with the applications option in settings and then use package disabler pro to disable those pesky system apps that you won't be able to disable in settings/applications.

Well of COURSE! I check sammobile about every 3 hours ( I know it's sad lol). I have a feeling it's going to be a while, but hey a lot of people didn't think we would get 7.0 before the s8 dropped......

Yeah, that's why I'm scared about upgrading now and not being able to later. That's also what I'm wondering, is will I be able to do a 'lateral' update to the firmware from Nougat 7.0 T to Nougat 7.0 U? I don't think the bootloader will let me, and ultimately I would like to be on the U firmware.
I'm not surprised they did, if they do it now they can boost sales a little before the S8 comes out. They also aren't/didn't (don't know when it's happening/happened) announce it at Mobile World Congress so that could help with sales of their current device.

Yeah pretty sure you have to be on whatever firmware you are trying to upgrade to or else it will fail. Well Odin files might flash mis-matching firmware but I know trying to flash it in recovery every via apply update from SD card it would fail with mis-matching firmware.

Welp. I did it, I upgraded to Nougat, and I regret it. My phone feels slower than before and it feels like it wasn't worth it.

I want the un bloated version....

I never ran the the U version, but the T version with stuff disabled using package disabler seems ok to me. But to each his own.

If it's slower you're doing something wrong. Do a factory reset.
I'm patiently waiting N for the U

Notice any changes though?
I didn't stay on it for very long. I restored to my backup a few minutes after confirming it was still 4.4.2. I would have had to do a full factory reset to really see if there were significant changes, as Odin kept my /data untouched. I might play around with it some more when I have more time.
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk
I'm curious too but doubtful that there'd be anything significant. From 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 and then to 4.4.4 there weren't any notable cosmetic changes on stock android to begin with other than tweaks to dialer and contacts (which don't matter on thsi tablet). Most of the change comes in the form of bug fixes and security patches I would think.
I suppose its possible samsung did their own touchwiz tweaks at the same time but my experience has been that they enjoy letting current owners envy those lucky enough to purchase newer devices. A classic example is how Note 10.1 2014 edition owners had to wait until well after the Note Pro release before they could get their Kitkat update. A manufacturer never wants a software update for an existing device to steal the thunder from a newly released piece of hardware.
We'll see if other regions get this update. If all regions get ANG2, then I might reset my tablet and start from scratch with that firmware version. I should have checked to see if it had fixed that nasty Chromecast systemUI crash.

Android L?
Does anyone know if we'll be getting an update to Android 5? I have a suspicion the Note Pro will sadly be forgotten and left out in the cold by Samsung. I'm only really interested in the lower audio latency in Android L really; using FLStudio Mobile or Caustic 3 on the 12 inch screen would be pretty cool but the lag still present in Kitkat is a bit of a deal killer.
We'll probably get Android L/5.0 but it might take a while after it is released to Nexus devices. This isn't just a point update, but a major revision. This means much more testing and debugging for Samsung. The wifi only devices should get it first though.

Google has not even announced the official release for Android 5. How would anyone know when the 12.2 is getting it? The Note Pro is within the 18 month cycle of the release of the new android version so per their agreements with Google they will release 5.0 for this device.
I didn't want to know an exact date, just if we'd be getting it eventually, if there's an agreement in place with Google that's all good.

I have issues with it dropping connection 10ft from my router, not wanting to scan for new networks... the whole shebang. Sometimes toggling wifi helps, other times I have to reboot the whole thing. And with no dialer I have no clue how to get into the advanced options to turn off power saver like on the note 3.

Well the korean varients of this phone have recieved marshmallow and it seems that there are no interface changes ecxept for new icons :/ but it does add doze and the permission manager and all of the "underground" features marshmallow has to offer. When it comes to us though we will at least get the MM bootloader and all that jazz then we can develop S7/S7 edge roms for our device

You can root by installing TWRP using ODIN.
Updated my phone (which is not on Sprint Network as I live outside US) and must say, I'm quite impressed. There are no noticible UI changes but the system feels more snappier than before. I guess the Doze settings have been worked too because of which battery life has improved a tad bit.

Hot-spot mods of previous builds will not work. If you want, you can use pdanet or FoxiFi for it (no need of a rooted phone).
For Xposed, you can flash the zip available on XDA but you will require root for it.
PG1 source code isnt out, so developers will be behind still.

Switching to G935U firmware for good?

I was recently thinking to myself to flash Samsung's international firmware on my G935V. The phone's battery is terrible even in airplane mode and I think going to a non bloated ROM would be generally better. I did once have the international firmware but my phones screen started going weird and I flashed it back to the original. Of course it turned out to be a hardware issue and I got it replaced under warranty. Because this happened a day after I flashed the international firmware, I'm scared something similar might happen again. Do any of you guys run the international firmware on a daily basis on your Verizon edges? I was just wondering if it will be practical at all. Also for the one day I had the international firmware, the battery was definitely better without Verizon's crap on it. What do you guys think?
Been on the u firmware for a long time and I love it. However... If you're on Verizons most recent ota your bootloader is version 4 and you won't be able to flash the u firmware with out rooting it.

So what would happen if I tried flashing it through Odin like the old way?
Being on the U firmware the first time was great, but over time it's degraded for new. I'm only getting up to 2 hours of SOT by 50%, as opposed to 3. Not rooted either.
I'm thinking of going to do the PG5 Verizon firmware to see how things are.
Unfortunately it won't flash. The new bootloader will block what would potentionally be an older revision or a downgrade. Currently the u firmware bootloader is Rev. 2. Verizon managed to jump to Rev. 4 with its last update potentially screwing all stock users out of using a stock unlocked debloated firmware with free tethering.

Post a pic of your build version.
Excellent news. As of today the u firmware dropped an update which is on bootloader Rev 4. This is good for you guys wanting to switch and people on t mobile.

I just flashed the new 935U version this morning to my verizon variant. I was getting sub-par battery life on the verizon software so I am going to try this out for a bit. Keeping it unrooted the only thing I can't install is verizon visual voicemail. I have voLTE working but there is no option for wifi or video calling as with the verizon version. Seems to be much faster overall though.
Been using U firmware since June and no issues. Have already gone through 2 updates on U without problems.

How do you know if the VoLTE is working? I installed the latest 935U firmware and i never saw the VoLTE option. I saw it only when i flashed the "Samsung_G935x_QC_Rooted_BOOT.TAR" via ODIN when i was trying to root. I also want to keep the latest 935U firmware and as far as possible avoid root.
I have the toggle in settings and confirmed it by placing a call.

You get to see the toggle before rooting ? Without any other mods to the 935U firmware ?

No Nougat update yet!!

Hi,
I have a TMobile S7 Edge, using in India. I flashed my phone from 935T to 935U, works perfectly well however I have not recieved the Nougat update yet..Will I have to do it manually from a PC??
To get Nougat from the U firmware you will have to either;
Flash back to a factory Tmobile ROM losing all data from your phone, wait for Tmobile t release the Nougat firmware, then update with the OTA like normal.
Or
Wait for Samsung to release the update for the U firmware and just download and install like a normal OTA update
I am also on the U firmware, I am waiting until Tmobile rolls out the update, then flashing stock and updating. THEN when Sammy decides to give us the U firmware I will wipe and go back to U cause it is so much n8cer than stock

Its only 116 mb final update to official N for beta users Not full firmware! So even if they had a leak, it would be no good without already being on N! I hope they release to public tomorrow

You were on G935UUEU4APL4 firmware and got the OTA? I was under the impression that the T-Mobile OTA would not be available for devices running the U firmware but maybe it will eventually get to everyone?

I was on the latest, non-rooted firmware, whichever that may be. Phone updated last night to Android 7.0.
