my guess is that if you install a rom that uses magisk superus and you activate the function to hide, it should work. The reason i say this is because im currently using android pay on a rooted V20 and it does allow me to use it. Im currently using Max OvrDrive (if you have the h918 variant). If not, there are some others implementing magisk directly on the rom.

Yea, if you install Magisk on a rom or flash a rom with it pre-implemented "recommended option" and use Magisk Hide, pokemon go will work, as will MOST apps that check for rooting such as Snapchat, DirecTV NOW, and others. Do note though that there's some apps you'll have issues with Root-wise because MagiskSU isn't widely supported as Chainfires SuperSU is. In a perfect solution to your issue "this is how I'd do it" Dual boot your current rom and a rom that has Magisk on, that way you'll have the best of both worlds.

Great, you'll wanna make a backup of your current Rom "Just in case" if you already have one, cool. Then go here and download the latest dual boot patcher apk and utilities.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534 "Disregard the fact that it's posted in a S4 forum" we have support by the dev of the tool.
1.)Make your backup
2.)Install the Dual Boot Patcher Apk
3.)Open the app, It will ask for Root and "usually" ask about setting a kernel, MAKE SURE YOU SET THIS!
4.)Hit "patch zip file" then select the "+" and select "add zip file" navigate to your chosen rom with Magisk on it or the rom you plan to manually install magisk on.
5.)LONG press the zip file until it is highlighted, And in the top right corner select "open"
6.)A prompt will appear and will ask about what device and Partition configuration, Device will/should be auto selected. Select "secondary" for partition configuration.
7.)After you confirm you selections a new window will open, it's asking for the location you wish to save your newly patched file.
8.)Lastly hit the check mark in the top right corner to begin patching the zip, your new zip will contain "dual" in its name now.
9.)You may now flash this file like any other zip in twrp and it will do it's thing.
If you have any questions, refer to the thread or simply ask me. Enjoy!

I do all these steps from my "main" rom? Are there any roms that this will not work with?

Yup, do this while on your current rom, As far as i know it works with all of them. Right now i have AOKP "secondary" and NATF MegaRom v20 3.2 "primary" Dual booting, AOKP has Chainfires SuperSU and NATF has MagiskSU.

I ran the steps. The rom has dual in its name but im still scared ill delete my main lol. How will it know to install to the second slot? Im running team win recovery 3.0.2-1.

Well, that's part of the fun! Lol As long as you've got a backup this shouldn't be too concerning. As for how does it know.......I have to idea to be completely honest but when it begins installing it'll mention something about Multiboot and that's where magic happens. If you have the utilities downloaded, which you should, flashing the utilities after the dual rom will let you see if it was successful.

I did it and it installed fine. My problem is the rom is stuck at the checking network screen. Ive been waiting 20 minutes and it still says checking network.

I'd say try and reflash and see if it keeps happening, what rom are you using by the way?

[ROMs] Stock Rooted MM - For US WiFi and RoW LTE Shield Tablet

Some of you may have seen my post in the Original Shield Tablet MM 4.0 Update thread, but now I'm finally making a new thread for these to help people out.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible for your tablet. You own it, be smart about what you do with it. Not my problem if you screw something up.
This is an all-in-one MM update for the specific version of your Shield (select the right link at the bottom).
If you have already used my first zip, this will remote TegraOTA and upgrade TWRP to 3.0.
If you're already on MM, rooted, removed TegraOTA, and on TWRP 3.0, this won't add anything.
What does this contain?
Stock Rooted MM - Full Nvidia Update
TWRP 3.0.0 (thanks to @romracer)
TegraOTA Removed (Nobody needs that nonsense anyway)
SuperSU
What does this not contain?
Anything else - Read: Stock. Rooted.
What's broken?
OTA. You won't get any OTA updates (You don't want them if you're rooted anyway)
What do I need to do?
Be Unlocked
Have TWRP installed
Drop correct zip to device, then flash (if you need me to explain this, you shouldn't be doing it)
You CAN dirty flash this and not wipe /data partition (except the RoW LTE if flashing on a US LTE tab).
You also need to have a little patience. First boot takes some time. Chill. It's not hanging.
IGNORE the message in TWRP stating that the device isn't rooted. It is. TWRP just doesn't believe me. IGNORE IT.
Links Below:
(Be sure to download the one that you need. Not my problem if you can't handle that yourself.)
**RoW means Rest of World. Not my terminology, but that's what you use if you have anything other than a US tablet**
US WiFi Shield Tablet: Temporarily Removed
RoW WiFi Shield Tablet: Temporarily Removed
Flashing RoW LTE on US LTE tablet will cause you to be missing some buttons. Follow the instructions below to get them back.
RoW LTE Shield Tablet: Temporarily Removed
For US LTE on RoW LTE rom:
* Flash the rom
* Reboot to system
* Connect to PC (or maybe open Terminal Emulator if you have it installed)
* Run the following in adb if on PC
Code:
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardTestActivity
* Do what you can, reboot, and finish if it fails or crashes on the first attempt.
* Reboot
Thanks to @bill0405 for button fix when using the RoW LTE rom on a US LTE device.
**Note: I put this in General instead of Dev, because I didn't really do any dev work. Just some scripting to have it flash the way I want and do what I want.
I'll add International WiFi in a bit. I'm going to be downloading it when I get home. :highfive:
Hello, I haven't looked in your other threads but will these files automatically install the MM firmware?? Or will I need to do that separately??
Thanks.

All-in-one install. No need to flash anything else. Just need to be unlocked and running TWRP recovery.
RoW WiFi model is added.
Install went well, thank you.
Just a heads up, first boot will take some time. There are no boot animations. Just the stock Nvidia splash screen. It will look like the boot hangs on the splash screen but be patient, it will get to the set up screen with time.
Edit: All is working well. Multi window option is not present on dev option, will modify in build prop. Thanks again.
Are any of these safe to install on a US LTE model? I never have and never will use the LTE modem, so it doesn't matter to me if it doesn't work as long as everything else does.
I heard the RoW LTE works fine on the US LTE and connects to Tmobile... I'm going to try it out now.
Awe, man. I was all excited and then I was ready and thought I'd boot into fastboot and...Ugh, I am still locked. If I just flash this it won't work right? Should I just unlock and then push everything over or is there a better way now? I am on 5.1.1 LP rooted with TWRP. Thanks for your help.
I'm currently on stock rooted 5.1.1, with TWRP installed, and Bit-O-Kernel. If I install this 6.0 update, will it wipe my tablet? I'm really not up for reinstalling and setting up everything all over again right now... I know I'll lose the kernel during the install, I'm ok with that as it's an easy quick reinstall.
That's what nandroids are for.

Dirty flash is fine. Just make sure the kernel you want to use supports M.
Installation worked but weird things happening.
This flashed perfectly on my US Wifi coming from a rooted stock LP.
TWRP 3.0.0 is very sluggish and behaves strangely. Also, trying to flash Xposed framework results in errors regarding "read only" even though the Mount System As Read Only option is unchecked.
I've tried all day to figure out a solution but I've found nothing.
As anyone else ran into these issues.

What zip are you using to flash xposed? I bet I can fix the issue.
Any word from anyone who flashed one of these onto a US LTE model? Also, why isn't there a US LTE version available?
great stuff Harfainx, I was lazy so just sideloaded over the top of LP - worked an absolute charm :good:
Is it safe for OG tablet? Anyone confirm it's working without be killed.

I flashed the LP stock rooted and I was still locked. Can I flash this MM stock rooted and not be unlocked? Just was hoping I didn't have to unlock and loose everything and start over.

Device doesn't seem to be rooted? I downloaded SuperSU, but it complains. Is there a better binary?

Rooting SM-S920L

Tracfone version
I'm having no luck with Kingroot. It says no root available for device.
According to 'one-click-root' website, the device has no way of rooting it.
Is there any updated information?
.
device specifics:
model: SM-S920LZAATFN
android: 5.0.2
build: LRX22G.S920LUDU1APK2
hardware version: S920L.03
.
[edit: was hoping to change the title to reflect that this post is about the tracfone version]
TWRP recovery method?
TWRP recovery method?
I've read that a phone may possibly be able to be rooted by using odin to download a TWRP recovery, then booting into that new recovery using hardware keys, instead of rebooting normally. And this results in a rooted phone?
I think I have seen a TWRP that may work with this phone. Any help is appreciated. I'd like to be able to update this thread to include a step by step approach to this and other versions of the same model 920.
I'll continue to post updates as I discover more information.
DIY time : crash course in brain surgery
Ok, so I've read a bit of stuff in the forums on the SM-S920L, mostly about the StraightTalk variant, which apparently uses the same system rom, though I'm not so sure.
At any rate, rather than just throw carp at the phone and hope it sticks, I'm going to teach myself how to do it all myself, a-z, 1,2,3... etc., starting with making stock images of the various components, for recovery purposes. Perhaps the phone can be used as a TracFone again someday, though I have no desire to do so, having already bought another for cheaper that even works better, though not as fancy, just newer.
So, I'll leave it here for now and just update the primary with new information as I discover it, starting with the extraction of the stock images, hopefully without goofing up the phone, lol.
This is an unpopular phone, at least for hackers. But it will be a good tool for expanding my knowledge.
Any help appreciated, such as, 'Is this even necessary? There are files here here and here that will do it all'.
(lol, nope... so far I've discovered there is no root option, kingroot no work, etc. There seems to be no posts with information specifically regarding the TracFone 'variant' of this model. It suggests that i can use the StraightTalk files for it, which may work, but there are many questionable unanswered problems.)

Ya I got the straight talk, I have been using king root but I totally bricked and wiped my phone on purpose because I wanted to start fresh and let it update. Having a problem though I used twrp and nuked all my ****, or so I thought. I'm trying to OTA update I'm currently on 5.0.2 and it's saying I have a system update and even after I checked everything to be deleted it still says error and one of my files is modified or some**** like that. I think it's like admin.prop so **** it. I do however want to go systemless root. What do you suggest is the best root and rom for our device?
To answer op question yes your phone is the same as ours. Mine even shows tracphone on boot.

Well for our phone there is only one custom ROM and it's LineageOS 13.0 https://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-prime/development/unofficial-cyanogenmod-13-0-galaxy-t3491494 It's android 6.0 and it can be rooted too. It's not being updated anymore for our device as far as I know. There is Lineage 14.* but not for our variant.
For systemless root you'll want to go with Magisk. https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445 I had Lineage, and don't get me wrong it's worth checking out, but I downgraded back to stock and went with Magisk. You can even get Xposed throughMagisk.
If I was you, I would flash back to stock. You can go to this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445 and download the first two, Stock Boot and Stock Recovery. Make sure to unzip them because you need the md5 files they extract. I'd wipe everything again and then get into download mode. On your PC fire up Odin, I'm using version 3.10 http://odindownload.com/download/clean/Odin_3.10.0.zip Click BL use the stick boot md5 and then under ap use the stock recovery md5. When it reboots and you set it up do not turn reactivation lock on.
If you don't already have Magisk on your sd card get it on there and install through twrp. It will ask if you want to root. Might make a back up after. I always make backups and then transfer from sd to my pc. I can restore to like 6 different versions of my phone right now lol I'm no expert, I haven't been messing around with all this for long so I hope that all makes sense. :fingers-crossed:

Hey, I thought I'd let you know LineageOS 14.1 is available to us now. I can't find a specific thread on it, but you can download it from http://grandprime.ddns.net/jenkins/job/LOS_Builds/# Flash it with twrp. You will want to flash that and then flash open gapps [ARM - 7.1] and then whichever from here http://opengapps.org/ I did all that first, set it up rebooted and then installed Magisk.
It has Substratum pre-installed and it let's you theme it nicely. There is only an unofficial xposed version so far.
Anywho, thought I'd throw that out there.
thanks for the replies, gives me inspiration to keep on trying; the phone is pretty ho-hum with default stuff and the general blah blah of social media, etc.;
thanks for the tips, feel free to post more details as they come in
My Turn
I'm about to try and put 14.1 and Magisk on mine. Wish me luck!
downloading twrp recovery and rooting
in google search up twrp click on the first link then click on devices on the top right corner then search up your phone download the twrp.img.tar file
power off your phone and press volume down + home button + power button to boot into download mode
in odin select AP then select the twrp.img.tar you downloaded then press start
your phone will reboot then download the SuperSU zip file
then go to settings then go to find my mobile you have to get a samsung account then you will see reactivation lock option turn that off
then power off your phone then press volume up + home button + power button to reboot into twrp recovery
once booted tap the install option then select where you downloaded the supersu zip file swipe to flash it once done flashing you will see the reboot system option to reboot your phone
then your phone should be rooted!

[HELP] I would like to go into developer options but I can not

Hello to all,
first of all sorry for my English, i'm using google translate, I do not know if you can help me here.
I bought this jewel from Gearbest and arrived yesterday.
I would like to unlock the bootloader and root it following this wonderful guide , but I can not get into developer options, I get the error "the settings application crashed abnormally"
I wanted to do this via the toolkit, but in EDL mode the phone is not recognized, maybe because in developer options I have to select the OEM UNLOCK.
The only good thing is that it recognizes usb debugging mode (at least I think) because I see the debug notification icon.
I can not understand where it came from, I went into bootloader mode but did not release me information.
From the onscreen screen I can only provide these info:
model number zte a2017g
version android 6.0.1
kernel version 3.18.20
build number zte a2017gv1.0.0b11
baseband version th.2.0.c1.9-00050-m8996faaaanazm
The MiFlavor version is 4.0
The smartphone does not receive OTA updates. I downloaded the global version (b05) of Nougat, the update with Android started I did not find it (I renamed the rom file in update.zip and put in the root of the SD CARD). I tried through recovery mode but it does not do anything to me, it's as if the smartphone was locked in everything and for everything.
I'm doing well ? How do I update when I download the rom? Can you please help me? Is there any system to interact with this smartphone and unlock it? I do not want to keep a phone that I can not update and root it.
Thanks in advance to who will help.
UPDATE:
I tried to manually install the downloaded ROM, but in recovery mode it does not flash the new rom ... the phone does not even try it !!!
It's as if the phone was locked in everything and I only have to keep the installed rom.
Some idea ?

Hey I would recommend clearing the data for settings if you can. To do this go to your launcher, find the settings icon and either drag or hold down or do whatever it takes to get to the app info. I haven't used stock in a long time so idk. But then go into storage and clear data. Then go and try again.
I do have one question though. How did you get usb adb debugging enabled if you didn't get into developer options at all?
For the second half of your question you won't be able to flash anything without first unlocking the bootloader and flashing TWRP onto the device. For the devices recovery idk which one you meant, but it needs to be TWRP. Good luck!

Thanks to my friend, without doing anything, suddenly, he made me enter the developer options menu.
I've been able to do the rest.
Now I have the phone with unlocked bootloader, root and TWRP installed.
Do not ask me how I got the debug without going into the menu, I could not answer you ... it will remain a mystery !!!
I take advantage of your availability: can I flash the zip of the official ROM through TWRP? Or is there a risk that the phone goes into brick mode?

You can't flash an official zip through TWRP, it will just fail. No brick.
Edit: didn't read OP lol. If you want to update, you have to flash the stock recovery (there are stock recovery flashable zips on the Download Center) then install the update, then get TWRP again. Or you can install a custom ROM (I recommend one based on stock MiFavor 5.0, I think that the best one is ADM Team V3 (the one that's not based on B13), this way you can simply download, flash in TWRP, and you'll be done

I installed the rom that you suggested to me, I find it very good, but this phone has very poor support (MiFavor).

Very poor support? It's going to get Android O, and it's got at least 1 update per month (officially). It's unclear whether that ROM you installed will be updated since it's based on an older version, but the latest (B13) breaks a bunch of stuff like Google Play Games, Maps, the GPS works awfully...

No no ... do not get me wrong.
My reference is to rom, MiFlavor is really bad. I come from 3 Xiaomi smartphones and I can assure you is another world.
The smartphone is really nice and well balanced (apart from the just enough battery) and I would replenish it a thousand times. :fingers-crossed::good:

Xposed in 8.1 Final Stock causes bootloop

First of all, excuse me if something is wrong or written. (Google translator)
I am one of those people who still use Xposed, the reason is that I use the variant of 2GB of ram and 16GB of internal memory and what helps me cope with it is Xposed and the module XinternalSD and ObbonSD.
The problem is that when installing Xposed both in its version flasheable and its version in magisk cause bootloop.
I read in the forums dedicated to the moto g5 that also happens to them this same thing they solved using a custom kernel.
What can be done?.

You're right, I can say it for I've tried it myself.
I wanted to install it so as to use "gravity box"
For the moment, since there's no final stable version of the 8.1 firmware, I think nothing can really be done ...
But I wonder what developers think about it ... It's a challenge that's worth it ?
It's work, but you need to do a simple trick, check my post.

I installed normally on magisk, the trick is on restart, the first restart to enable the xposed module should normally be done using "normal reboot", then open the xposed and you will get a yellow error, click the three dots to show the settings of the xposed, and go on 'fast reboot', it will work. And you will not be able to do a normal 'reboot', whenever you need to restart, use the option 'fast reboot'. NEVER restart the phone using normal mode, just using the "fast reboot"
it's important you always have the magisk uninstaller ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445/amp/)

Question Android 12 for Cricket Dream 5G?

Anyone have the Android 12 firmware that Cricket released from this Reddit thread? There is one custom rom developed in this XDA thread but not sure how stable it is.
Hey dude, I'm currently using the a teams custom ROM From here.
I've used all three attached, only issues I found in them are as followed
Android 12 rom's Bluetooth will connect but won't send audio, to fix this go to settings/phh settings/misc/ there you'll find a bunch of options, Im using Android 11 rn so I can't tell u which one needs to be enabled ATM
Android 11 one doesn't have this issue, and all three won't allow lock screen or fingerprint, I couldn't find a fix for this)

Thanks for the reply.
I'm a little confused with the aio toolkit requirement.
1. Is the aio toolkit is to help install TWRP and Magisk?
2. Where is the download link to aio toolkit?
3. How do you install the aio toolkit?
I couldn’t tell you on that, I never played around with it. Over on that thread you get 3 downloads, 2 android 12 gsm, and 1 android 11 gsm.
I
They all come with magisk pre installed, all you need is TWRP.

Ok. That's what I have in mind too. Normally you need to unlock bootloader and then install TWRP before you can flash the custom rom.
I thought the aio toolkit include the TWRP and Magisk. So you install it then boot to the stock recovery to flash the rom.
Yeah. Theres another post here for getting just twrp and magisk. I'm to lazy to quote it lol, but that's how I got it originally, I then flashed these ROM's without a issue.

I finally installed the custom GSI roms. There is one major issue is that the phone don't ring for incoming calls. After 5 rings, it goes to the voicemail. I can make calls.
Did you have this problem? Which rom are you using?
I installed TWRP using AIO Toolkit. Not sure how you install your TWRP.
I wonder if the modified boot.img from Magisk might be the cause to the phone ring issue since my stock ROM is updated to Android 11 2023 February. The developer created the custom GSI roms and TWRP and Pre-patched using an older Android 11 in May 2022.

1. AiO Toolkit
Sure. In case you don't have a copy of the full AIO Toolkit that includes unbrick roms and rooted stuff. I upload a lite of the AIO Toolkit that includes only the rooted stuff, not full rom. It's only 360MB.

You will have to use Linux in order. I recommend Ubabutu v22 instead v23. I couldn't get it work in Windows.
Follow the direction in the readdme.md to install MTKClient and requirements: https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient
After completing the installation, make sure you enable USB debugging and run `adb devices` and confirm to enable "Allow to use usb debugging" in the phone.
Run the AIO Toolkit CLI script: Main_Menu.sh. The simplest way to run this Main_Menu.sh is open the File Manager and right click on it and select Run. It will give you instruction what to do after you select the menu choice.
In the main meanu, select the bootloader menu item for unlocking the bootloader and select recovery menu item installing TWRP and Magisk.
If it ask to enter brom mode, just power off the phone, hold the volume up and down buttons for 2 seconds and connect the USB cable to PC. It should automatically recognize and do it stuff.
2. Bluetooth Fix
Also there is a fix for bluetooth by enabling this settings in any of the custom rom you use.
Go Settings > Phh Settings > Misc Features. Under Other section, check "Force disable A2DP Offline"
3. Phone call ring
Can you do a quick call test for me if you don't mind? Just have someone call your Dream 5G phone. If it rings, it means it works. If it works, can you list baseband version and custom rom you are using?
I really wanted to use Android 12 if I can fix the phone call ringg issue.
4. TWRP v3.7 update?
What version of TWRP are you using? is 3.6.x? Have you upgrade to v3.7x that is fully Android 12 compatiable?
I was going to do the manual process but there was only threads about it and not sure how relaible. So I use the AIO Toolkit.
However if you able to upgrade to v3.7, please share the steps.
Let me know if you need to help.
